Unfortunately I had quite a bad experience at the Velo, I went with my partner who goes quite a lot and I was quite shocked when I got to the till and to place my order and I asked if the cakes had nuts in them because I have an allergy, and the lady in the kitchen was quite rude and said we can’t guarantee there is nuts in them, so I was like ok no worries, I’ll just have what I ordered which was fried egg sandwich on white bread. Then the girl said I don’t think my manager will let you eat anything of it, I just thought it was really ridiculous and unnecessary. It also made me feel really awkward, usually places I go to are really accommodating. Then the food arrived and the waitress just slammed our food on the table. Really really bad experience, I won’t be going back.

Usually love it here, but got a stinky jobsworth response from the kitchen over a nut allergy enquiry. At one point they refused to take the order saying that they couldn’t guarantee anything on the menu was devoid of nuts. I think we were prepared to take a risk with a bacon butty and an egg barm. Chill your boots kids! 🙄

We had a little time to spare prior to an appointment nearby, so we looked on Google for a coffee shop. The twin lakes showed up, so we headed there using the sat nav, which was invaluable as there is no way we would have stumbled upon it as a passer-by. Tucked away off the main rd down a worrying single track road that seemed to go nowhere, we were about to throw-in the towel when the opening into the car park appeared. It is set in a lovely picturesque country environment overlooking a fishing lake with outdoor picnic benches to sit and enjoy the scenery and tranquillity. The benches, however, have seen better days, many rotten, decaying, and weather beaten, we would not want to sit having food on them....a shame. So inside we went....definitely a better environment to enjoy eating. Clean tables and seating. Interesting Cyling memorabilia adorns the walls, the owner apparently is an enthusiast, and I was told that the cafe is frequented by cycling groups who stop-off here for refreshments whilst on their travels. We had a quick snack of coffee and a lovely tasty scone, which was fruity and moist, which we both enjoyed. There were a selection of mouth watering cakes displayed at the counter with other light snacks. Cooked food also available but I can't comment on the menu choices or quality of cooked food as we only had a snack. A pleasant ambience with enjoyable music playing subtly in the background. The staff were welcoming, engaging, and very friendly, helping to make our visit an enjoyable experience. As a businessman, I'm not sure what the clientèle base is, other than cyclists, as there is no passer-by footfall to be seen for their "bread n butter" businesses. An idea would be to erect more prominent signage at the entrance from the main road and its approach, as to its existence ( there is currently a small insignificant sign to "the velo cafe"), which isn't immediately noticable Maybe grafic-rich offer-boards, for example "Breakfast being served", "lunchtime snacks", "afternoon tea&cake treats" deployed at appropriate times of day would wet the appetite of passing drivers and entice them to investigate....just a thought. Anyway, we enjoyed our short experience of this hidden jem and surely visit again when in the area.

The food here is really very tasty & we have visited a few times, I just wish it was a little cheaper. I don't mind paying a premium for the food as it's good quality ingredients but £2.50 for a very small tumbler of apple juice out of a carton I can see isn't expensive really does sting a little.

Nice surroundings by the lakes, lovely staff and good menu. Just wasn’t impressed with the hot chocolate… no taste and extremely weak, hence the 3 stars. Actually thought £1 extra for the tiniest bit of whipped cream too much.

It's a great cafe off the beaten track next to a lake. There is plenty of seating outside so people can enjoy the views. Each of the outside bench tables is equipped with parasols, just in case the sun comes out. There is also plenty of seating inside the cafe. Service was quick and friendly. Once you have placed your order, you are given a wooden spoon with a number on it, and your food will then be brought to your table. Before you leave, the counter you have a little wait while they make your drink. Then you just find a place to sit and relax. Within a few minutes, my food arrived. My bill came to £6.50 for a bap with veggie sausages and a large americano. Both were excellent, and at that price, great value for money.. It was, and I believe it is regularly very busy with cyclists. When I visited, I would say it was 50/50 with cyclists and non cyclists, and it is to see why the place was busy. In my opinion, it is one of the best cafes I have been to for quite some time.

The clue is in the name. It's a cafe for cyclists who know a good food stop when they see one. The Velo cafe is justifiably popular, the food is excellent, the choice of tea s and coffees wide and its licenced should you fancy a tipple. It's also a great place to go for a family lunch, parking not a problem. Highly recommended.

I rode out here on a bitterly cold but beautiful day, the cafe was fairly quiet, not surprising due to the lanes being covered in ice. There was another hardy soul who had cycled there, and a family in another table. I enjoyed a bacon bap and a cappuccino and thoroughly enjoyed them, they warmed me up. Great friendly cafe with good home cooked food. I can’t understand the previous 2 star comment because the reviewer couldn’t take their dog in. If that is the rules of the cafe owner, so be it. I absolutely love dogs, but don’t want to share my eating space with them. Either way I think it’s pretty poor to slag a place off because you can’t have your own way. Great coffee, the best coffee I’ve had from a cafe. Great homemade cakes too.

I understand that the cafe caters mainly for the cycling community. However, my wife and I together with our small dog decided to visit for lunch on a miserable cold and rainy Monday afternoon today. Apart from the staff, the cafe was completely empty when we arrived. Unfortunately, we were told that dogs are not allowed inside the cafe. As it was cold and pouring down we decided that eating outside was not an option so we chose to leave. I had been told in the past that visitors with their dogs were welcome but owing to some apparent issues, dogs were no longer welcome inside the cafe. In an empty cafe where we had intended to spend circa £20+ , I would have thought that our trade would have been welcomed especially in today's turbulent economic times where many businesses are on the brink of having to close due to lack of trade and increased running costs. So, if you're on bikes you'll be fine but don't bother turning up with your dog. Sad really in this day and age. I too am a cyclist and personally, have no problem at all visiting cafe stops where dogs are welcome. The cafe is well off the beaten track and many walkers take their dogs with them. The cafe seems to be isolating itself from that section of the community.

Bad news when beans were the best item on the breakfast.... Plus = Cafe overlooks a lake in a lovely location 👍🏻 Coffee was nice 👍🏻 Staff seemed friendly 👍🏻 Negative = Breakfast was terrible to be honest, everything was luke warm, sausages undercooked and poor quality, bacon full of fat 👎🏻 Snotty fried egg, not sealed on the top 👎🏻 No black pudding, no mushrooms 👎🏻 I ended up leaving most of the sausage which is a shock for me. I was asked if everything was ok, I replied average to be honest, their reply was ok we will take that.. Maybe a better idea would be to find out why a customer was not satisfied and seek to rectify. In my opinion a bit more investment into a decent breakfast here would turn this place into a gold mine, shame I won't return to find out.
