We visited in November for a friends birthday. The food was very average and portions were really small which wasn’t great. We were overcharged on our bill as staff has put everything through twice so spent a lot of time having to work out refunds. As a result I was incorrectly charged for drinks I did not order or have. When contacting the restaurant to resolve they started ignoring my emails once they’d deemed a refund wasn’t required. Disappointing.

Although a little pricier than some of the other nearby restaurants , we thought that it was worth the extra for a special occasion. Delicious flavour combinations and nice to see something s little bit different - compliments to the chef! Service good, although staff a little stretched with it being busy - and additional waiter/waitress would have made all the difference. We will definitely return!

It's a grey old day in Chester today, and having completed the mundane Saturday chores, as fans of Chef's Table we decided to chance our luck on Twenty Eight having space. We were seated straight away, and the very cheery waiter brightened our mood with two delicious honey and lemon Old Fashioned cocktails. We ordered the lunch special, 3 small plates each for £20 and all were excellent. The stand out dish for me was the tartare of beef, while my partner preferred the beetroot salad. Great to see the team at Chef's Table performing well over two restaurants 10 years after they broke onto the Chester food scene. As always, they were top tier!

A real discovery - a very interesting menu and friendly relaxed service made a lovely lunch; each tapas dish was very nicely presented and very enjoyable and it's well worth ordering the crumpet with Cheshire Cheese and chutney as that's a classic and was very tasty indeed

What a wonderful restaurant. We were looking for a decent lunch before the races and read about this place. Luckily got in and so happy we did. British style tapas… every dish truly fantastic and better than the vast majority of restaurants in the north west. Great food, fresh ingredients, great service, nice wine list… all in all stunning. Don’t really understand how it’s 176 out of 200 odd restaurants in Chester. Go there now.

We visited the restaurant for lunch today 16/8 based on the review given by William Sitwell in the Telegraph on 1/8/2024. It seems the pricing has changed. No more 5 plates for £30 considered to be a sufficiency for two according to Mr Sitwell. Now it's 3 plates for £20 - clever marketing. Of our 6 plates the smoked mussels on toast and trout with Dill and yoghurt were very good. The cheese and pickle crumpet was nice but did not belong on the menu - more a teatime treat than a small plate. The buffalo chicken was just fried chicken and the confit pork belly was very chewy. The worst plate was the Hispi cabbage which was hard and tasteless albeit for the black garlic ketchup. We make Ottolenghi's roast cabbage often and it is far superior. The star of the show were the triple cooked chips at an extra £6 - delicious slabs of hot roast (more than chip) potato. We felt that we had an OK lunch, nothing to 'Rave' about and we wouldn't return

Not been here before but we like the look of the menu which was different to the norm, so decided to give it a try. Good start with a pleasant welcome from the staff, nice open feel to the restaurant and a relaxed atmosphere. The menu is a mix of snacks/tapas to start and then some larger main plates. Chef’s creative streak might not appeal to everyone but personally I quite like it – some you’ll love, others might not be so good eg we thought the crispy chickpeas, tomato salad & fried courgettes were excellent but the padron peppers were a bit so-so. Not so good were the desserts, which were limited to just 2 options and we found the panna cotta quite dull. But, overall we enjoy the evening & would certainly try again.

Interesting, varied and delicious small and large plates. Emphasis on sharing. Styled as tapas but with a local produce twist. From the trusted team behind Chef’s Table (now next door, but in brand new, very smart premises). Casual vibe; friendly, knowledgeable and polite staff. Excellent all round.

As big fans of the Chef’s Table, we were excited to try Twenty Eight, which offers tapas style dining. At five small plates for £25 (an absolute steal!), this is a perfect spot for a date or meal with friends or family. Our waitress was lovely - really friendly and knowledgeable - and she gave us some great tips on the menu. We ordered drinks - the plum 75 (delicious) and a lemon soda (non-alcoholic, scrumptious). The menu has a wide selection of vegetarian options as well as meat and fish dishes, and the veggie dishes I ordered were fabulous - cucumber with whipped feta, squash with pesto and blue cheese, beetroot with egg yolk. The flavours were unexpected and addictive, and the portions were generous for small plates. Put frankly, I ate until I couldn’t take another bite; I am still thinking longingly of the triple-cooked chips I had to leave behind. Next time… My husband was equally won over by his dishes: tuna, a chicken bao bun, fried artichokes, and a sourdough crumpet with collard greens and poached egg. Twenty Eight is a gorgeous gem of a restaurant, and deserves a fanbase as devoted as that of Chef’s Table. I can’t wait to go back!

A great pub to eat in. A warm welcoming fire in winter and good food at a reasonable price. We go here when we have family and friends with us, and we’ve all said how enjoyable the whole experience is.

Our favourite place to come for brunch after football. The team, as always, went above and beyond with the orders for our family (all with different dietary requirements). The boys had the classic big breakfast with local products at a great price. I tried the weekend special eggs Benedict and it was amazing. The boys filled their boots. The girls enjoyed new things. The doorstop toast alone is worth the visit. Sadly, no room for my favourite one the menu - parsnip cake, but the cake-away option meant I could enjoy it later. We brought a friend for their first visit and she was blown away.

Great B&B. Fab price and location was great, only a short walk from the station and about 15 minutes walk into the city centre. Room was clean & had everything we needed, breakfast in the morning was really nice too. Bar downstairs was very lively! Definitely recommend if you are staying in Chester.
