Very busy when we went, fortunately we had booked. Noisy atmosphere reduced the group enjoyment. Food acceptable but not exceptional although still good value for money. Would still recommend and return for another meal

Nice drive out to Helsby through one of my favourite places Frodsham. Food is very good. Especially the Sunday roast platter for two enough for three to enjoy really.

Smart gastro pub on the edge of Helsby, was the perfect place for a family meal. The food and the service was fantastic. The atmosphere was lovely, spacious, and quiet, the location of the pub and its outside is a little dull, but the pub itself is great.

We came as a party of 10,the girl serving us was absolutely superb at her job, food all came out quickly and hot and tasted absolutely amazing, couldn't fault anything at all, can't wait to come back 😊

Great food, Sunday roast was really good

Stopped off on a bike ride for a 14.95 afternoon 2 course deal. Disappointed. The starter took 25 minutes to come and it was about 2 inches wide and an inch deep (a fishcake), in a little cream sauce. The 5oz steak writes took a further 10 minutes and was overdone instead of the "pink" I had chosen when asked. Tough and dry. The dipping peppercorn sauce was nice. The guy who served me was tremendously helpful with some first aid I needed. But other than that I don't recommend it. It was small, sparse helpings, not that nice and took so long that I missed my train out of Helsby.

Who ever thought putting silver skinned onions in the steak & ale pie was a good idea must never have eaten it. 09/06/2024 Thank you for your reply which just proves the point and considering the food is not prepared in your kitchen but elsewhere and only warmed up on the premises, I don't think telling your kitchen staff will have any effect.

Fantastic family meal tonight to celebrate my wife's birthday. Food as tasty as ever. Service provided by the very friendly and efficient waiting on staff. My new go to restaurant for eating out. Keep up the excellent high standards people.

Fantastic, today Wifes birthday they coped with 11 of us with ease, not like a lot of other pubs in the area the roast dinners were brilliant and good value for money.

The food and layout of the restaurant area is fantastic. What takes it to five star is the service. We were extremely well looked after by Corinne. A perfect meal for my birthday. Will definitely be going back.

Wonderful Sunday roast platter everything on this is delicious. The mini pudding and coffe e is worth trying as well. The staff are very welcoming and attentive without being pushy. Will definitely be returning here

First time we have visited The Hornsmill, have driven past many times and thought of making a booking. The experience was very good, we were very impressed. The staff accomadated us and were very understanding that we were a little late arriving due to major road works. Our meal was lovely. Food well presented, hot and in good portions. Very good value. The staff were very good, customer care was very good, especially as it was very busy. We will visit again. Experienced no issues. Would recommend.

Went here with family before a long drive home. Close to motorway, bonus. Big place decor is light and airy. Staff nice, all busy. Good choice of menu especially the small style tapas dishes. A nice change from the ordinary pub grub. Can't fault it and would go in if passing that way

Anniversary dinner for parents & late birthday get together for brother in law, Great service, wonderful setting, food of a lovely quality if I had to comment on anything most thought especially the men folk fries were a tiny serving with the 2 burgers my partner & brother inlaw ordered, very light on the fries for men my sister commented too her & my mother had steak & they said could of done with more chips that was the only thing,,, Other than this overall it was very nice , quality food I had zero complaints & I had the streak & ale pie also a fruit crumble & ice cream, Everything I had was great my son had smoked fish he was happy too a wonderful waitress very attentive not overbearing, just great I will definitely call in again , Brilliant setting xxx thank you xxx

It was boxing day. However, the food wasn't great. Overcooked, possibly the normal chef was off.

Everything was lovely but a long wait for food, so hope you are with someone who matters a lot.

Lovely cosy pub with excellent service and a good menu and drinks selection. We came for my dad's birthday celebration and were well looked after. Food was a bit hit and miss though. We had a selection of starters - highlight was the pork belly and panko chicken. But the batter on the haddock goujons was soft and fish was chewy. For mains we had the game stew, lamb shank, bangers and mash and sea bass - all were fantastic. But the fish and chips, cheese pie and pie and chips were mediocre. Batter on fish was not crispy at all, cheese pie was tasteless and pie also lacked seasoning. The chips on all dishes were really terrible. Floury, dry, and undercooked - we even sent back a couple of plates with a request for crispier chips but they came back no different. Unfortunately my dad ordered fish and chips for his bday dinner and he was pretty underwhelmed. Kitchen needs to possibly clean or reset its deep fryer and definitely reassess their chip game!

Great traditional pub for a festive family gathering

Nice place with great staff and reasonable prices for most of the menu but quite excessive for some of the food. Quality of the food varied from bad to good. Some of it was over cooked, some was burnt and some was delicious.

First time we have been here. Visiting family and enjoyed a lovely meal here. Will definitely be back.

Booked for a party of 20 for the Christmas Fayre menu. Everyone thouroughly enjoyed their 3 courses and the service was superb. The lady who served the meals was even concerned about the heat of the plates for the children and brought out cool ones to swap so that they children didnt burn their hands, which was appriciated. A lovely atmosphere and comfortable seating. It was nice to see how busy it was too which is a sign of a good pub. Well done all and thank you for a lovely experience *****

Lovely food, lovely people great atmosphere

I’ve never had a bad experience at the Hornsmill, the food and service is always great. Last night’s experience was especially excellent. We were looked after by Corinne and she just went above & beyond in order to please. It really was some of the best customer service I’ve ever encountered. She charmed my elderly neighbour and she couldn’t have given us more of her time despite how busy she undoubtedly was. Truly making it the difference between just going for a nice meal and going for a memorable one. What a lovely human she is. Thank you.

A lunchtime meal with my wife after a number of years of absence, and was it a welcome one. Hospitality was good and the menu choices were excellent. Combined with a good selection of ales what more could I ask for. Highly recommended.

My parents and I had a thoroughly enjoyable meal at the Hornsmill. The staff greeted us warmly and were incredibly friendly and helpful throughout. The choice of food is a level above the usual pub fayre and the quality was excellent and the presentation was nicely done. Staff explained there may be a slight delay due to a large party of guests ordering at the same time. It was a first time visit but my parents have already insisted we return for another meal.....and I fully agree! Well done to the front of house staff, and the chefs!

Excellent place, excellent food. Sunday Roast Platter always has great quality meat and trimmings. Wine selection offers some of the best options in the area. Selection of desserts has just enough variety and they offer a mini dessert with a coffee if you'd prefer.

Top place to eat. wonderful service by Jane. Best steak I've had in a long time from the grill.
