We had a lovely roast dinner platter... It was delightful but the beef was slightly tough and chewy. Definitely return again

Called after Cheshire Oaks, had a set three course meal for 18.95, really enjoyed the meal, would recommend.

We booked a table and we asked for a different table due to it's location in the pub. We felt this was a huge issue from the lady who took us to the table, by the way she acted. The decor was lovely and so was the food, but the service was awful. It took 45 mins to get the starters. First round of drinks took a while, but the second round didn't even arrive. No water arrived either. Little things like the waitress clearing the plates, stacked them up directly Infront of me and then cleared. A sharing dish came without side plates. You use the cutlery for your starter and then no cutlery for the main. Empty glasses on the table and didn't get asked if we wanted another drink. The service was terrible. The waitress we didn't really see although the younger waitress bringing the food was more pleasant. Judging by the way we were treated and felt tonight this review will be read and forgotten about immediately.

Passed through for a bite to eat and a drink, was greeted by a female host eventually who was some what rude and not very welcoming. The pub itself was lovely, clean and tasteful decorated, very nice atmosphere. Food came promptly, was hot, cooked as it should and pleasantly surprised after the welcome we got. The male host that served us was awesome, friendly, smiling and made you feel welcome, we actually gave a tip at the end due to his great service. Would have gave 5 stars if we would have had a better welcome.

First visit here on Saturday with my Mum for Mother’s Day. The place is beautifully decorated and lovely and clean. Staff were all very friendly. Food was really good although we did wait a while for it to come, and it could have been a little bit warmer when it arrived, but for taste and presentation spot on. We will definitely come back again

Food was so BLAND. I have never had food so bland really lacks flavour and seasoning. I booked a table for 6, but it wasn’t ready until 6:40 which by then the children were restless tired and hungry. This was disappointing as when I booked the table it asked if I needed longer than 2 hours so I’m not sure why the table who went over was allowed to do this. The waitress was lovely but other than that I wouldn’t be returning.

Always a welcome stop along the M56 as we travel to Wales.

Lovely pub, lovely food, lovely staff. We couldn't fault it.

Lovely pub but food was a let down. Starter was almost £9 and rubbish for the money supposedly crab and king prawns but just got slop on 2 lettuce leaves was not impressed at all. Told the waitress who apologised which wasn't her place the manager should have spoke to us. Endless to say won't be going back .

Was celebrating mother-in-laws 90th birthday and we had a lovely waitress named Sophie who was friendly and helpful.

Have always received fantastic service & food at the Hornsmill all the staff are lovely we visited on Friday we were served by sophie she always makes you feel welcome & is very attentive, highly recommend.

Food really wasn't great at all. The beef was impervious to both knife and tooth. The portions were hilarious leaving the plate empty and I am not a big eater. The buttermilk chicken burger with bacon was terrible, soggy deep fried and the bacon, well look below. We also tried the dauphinoise which was bone dry and looked like dried out stacked paper, inedible. My lad did however say his burger was nice.. Only saving grace being the waitresses who were lovely.

Good Sunday dinner but could have been hotter, hence only 4 stars for the food. Brilliant service and a friendly atmosphere.

Great meal, we had the Sunday lunch platter for two it was delicious 😋 and you get great portions. It's our first time here and we will definitely be back

Popped into the hornsmill for a quick bite to eat with my son . Decor great nice atmosphere lots of staff great food unfortunately service very disappointing. I purchased drinks from the bar and was given a table that was free with menus , after a long wait I ordered food myself with a trip to the bar . After food arrived and we had finished our meals waited for our plates to be cleared no such luck although there were two managers and a handful of staff chatting behind the bar . I once again got up ordered desserts at the bar which we enjoyed , after finishing desserts waited a while nothing so decided to pay at bar . I usually leave a tip for good service however apart from cooking the food and serving the drinks I did everything myself ! . Would I return maybe as the food was good but the hornbill really needs to focus on service and the customer .

Have had several Sunday dinners here, really enjoyed everything about them, vegetables all cooked to perfection, gravy lovely. Staff plentiful and very attentive. Previously had 2 cuts of meat, beef and ham, as the beef was perfectly cooked last time, decided to go for the roast beef alone. Sorry to say the cut of beef was very sinewy, couldn't eat it, staff again very attentive, they changed it for me, unfortunately it was still the same. Obviously not the chefs fault, it was clearly down to the meat. It wouldn't put me off going to this restaurant again, just one of those things. It was very busy, which proves the food is good. Look forward to another roast dinner soon.

Nice friendly pub, good service, staff polite and friendly, food was nice, served without delay and hot. Plenty of seating, looks very inviting lit up of an evening from the road.

Excellent experience to dine here these two nights I stayed in Chester. The first night, I ordered steak, medium rare, the meat was really well prepared. The taste, the seasoning was super tasty. Tonight, my husband and I ordered lamb chops, it was AMAZING!!!! The sauce was so tasty. It’s definitely worth coming again.

Called in on Friday, before 5pm as we hadn't visited this pub since it was refurbished back in October. We were really impressed with everything. Food was outstanding, especially the banana mess dessert. Thanks for everything. Will definitely be visiting again very soon.

Absolutely amazing roast dinner platter for a good price, came here with my family and they all loved it. Great selection of beers and ciders to boot. Service was a little awkward and rushed at times but it was never slow!

A lovely early doors visit for my belated birthday treat. Lovely cosy pub with lovely log fires. I had bacon steak which was absolutely amazing. I've been dieting and this was my guilty pleasure and certainly got my taste buds tingling. My husband had the Hornsmill burger which he thoroughly enjoyed. A really lovely way to spend a horrible wet and snowy afternoon.

We had a lovely Sunday lunch here at the Horns mill. We ordered the Sunday lunch platter for two…OMG! It was beautifully presented and was delicious….it would have easily fed three people. It had everything on the platter…Beef, Turkey, chicken, Ham, all those wonderful vegetable trimmings too. The servers were fantastic, they couldn’t do enough for us, made me and my family feel special….thank you

Charged nearly £7 for a child's prawn starter! Chips were cold.. Sadly i won't be returning here again.

Called for a bit of lunch on our way to N Wales. Fabulously refurbished hostelry with lovely food and very friendly staff. Huge log fire was very welcoming on a cold January day. We were so impressed we called in for an evening meal on our return journey two days later.

Great service and exceptional food in this modern country restaurant. An open fireplace with large windows and plenty items as well as extraordinary furnishings to occupy yourself looking at. Tables are well spaced and the outside is well lit. I had the house beef burger with homemade sauce. Nice and juicy charred burgers in a brioche bun. The servers were polite and I hardly waited for menus and a drinks order. Best restaurant in the area, not really a pub though for hanging out for a few pints

Recently renovated, opened up the rooms, navigation around tables is now more accessible, food quality is good (but always was) staff friendly and knowledgeable, don't see the point of having the outside festoon lighting on all day?

Calm Sunday evening meal. Newly fitted out dining area. Lovely new furniture and decoration. No problem being seated into the dining room without a booking. Drink order taken quickly, and food order taken after a short wait. Service friendly and helpful. Sauces and condiments on hand if needed. Pleasant visit all round.

Food excellent and beautiful furnishings of the restaurant. Atmosphere spoiled by two individuals using the restaurant as a place of work. Dominated the space they occupied using Laptops & mobile phones incessantly for business use. Massive distraction when trying to enjoy our meal. I’ve heard of working from home but not the local restaurant. As regular dinners there, unfortunately we will not be returning.

Had a great girls night here with amazing food and our waitress Jane was fantastic! Everything was perfect except the terrible wine glasses! We were all very disappointed to see them still serving wine in clunky, thick, cheap glasses. Would be great if they could invest in some more delicate glasses, which really make a difference to a large group of women, all drinking wine!

Ate here yesterday evening, I had the pan fried chicken and my partner had the cheese and onion pie. Both dishes were delicious and the staff were so friendly and efficient. On criticism is that they had the calories on the menu, so I didn’t get a starter haha

The Hornsmill - Helsby I recently visited The Hornsmill and had a pleasant experience. Here’s my detailed breakdown and overall thoughts: Food - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4/5) The three cheese and onion pie was delicious with a perfectly golden crust and rich filling. However, the mash arrived lukewarm, which detracted slightly from the experience. Drinks - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4/5) I chose a J2O, which was refreshing, but I felt the drinks menu could benefit from more non-alcoholic options. Service - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5/5) The staff were attentive, friendly, and helpful throughout. Their positive attitude and prompt service really stood out. Atmosphere - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4/5) The cosy decor and inviting ambience were wonderful, but it was a bit noisy during peak hours, which slightly impacted the overall experience. Value for Money - ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3/5) While the food quality was good, the portion sizes felt slightly small for the price, making the value a little underwhelming. --- Overall Rating: 20/25 (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️) The Hornsmill is a lovely spot for a relaxed meal with excellent service and a cosy atmosphere. The waitress was lovely and very apologetic but we waited an 1hr 15mins for our food which was not ideal with a 2 and 5 year old. The waitress was very apologetic. When the food did eventually come out part of the order was wrong but didn’t say anything as could not be bothered to wait any longer for it to be resolved

Lovely atmosphere staff are lovely and warm and friendly. Good choice of food on the menu. Good service and the food was excellent. We will be going again soon. Would certainly recommend it.

Booked for Christmas Lunch for 15 people, we are accommodated in a lovely area with plenty of space. Food was delicious and served promptly. Staff were excellent, very attentive and great service. Not an easy ask for a large group. Highly recommended

Table for 4 and long wait for food to arrive which was mediocre at best. Had a pot of tea but no milk ?? had to ask for it. Overpriced for what we got, beef pie had been in the microwave too long. Deserts were miniscule. The previous times we have been I was not overly impressed but one hopes for improvement but seems to be worsening. Won't be back Highly unlikely we will be back

Local to the area - Went here on Sunday for the Sunday roast that was amazing! the refurbished Pub looks fantastic and will be returning again soon. Ps. Please can I have Coca-Cola with my rum next time 😊

What has happened to this place? Christmas set menu, cold salty turkey, some orange mush, Hard nearly raw sprouts. Meal was disgusting. Service terrible, party of 15 and food was coming out late, The desert was meagre portions. Tablets arranged so we couldn't sit together, I asked for a full fat cola no ice, he put ice in it 20 seconds after asking, the drink was mainly soda water so tasted horrible. The atmosphere was like there should have been sticky carpet or sawdust on the floor. Only 1 disabled parking space in front. We won't be going here again.

Beautiful place, warm & cosy. The food was lovely & not too badly priced. The staff were very friendly and attentive especially the young lady who served us but the service was slightly under parr due to lack of staff.

No warm welcome nor was it even warm in there, had chicken & bacon cibatta, small piece of chicken only the end of the bacon & stacks of lettuce. Friend noticed a hair hanging from my food ( not my colour) the matter was resolved in the end with an apology but not the point I ate on my own as my friends had finished there's! Whole experience was not pleasant, it's ashame as we always ate there pre-refub & it's always been lovely, my friends & I have decided to meet up elsewhere sadly, no atmosphere in the place at all & the staff looked miserable.

Excellent meal on a busy Saturday evening . All of the staff were polite and friendly , and excellent customer service skills .The food was really excellent , compliments to the hardworking chefs ! Booked Hornsmill for an 89th birthday, 4 adults, took 25 mins to get drinks / food ordered, a couple who arrived after us order taken 1st. Once main meals were finished there was once again an unacceptable wait to be asked if deserts wanted. Lovely inside after refurb but service needs to be massively improved felt invisable. Mentioned complaint to a waiter to be explained had been very busy still no excuse for ignoring customers.

Jane looked after us very well and when we mentioned the green beans needed to be cooked a bit softer she said they'd sort it for our next visit! Roast and sticky toffee pud was lovely

Nice drive out to Helsby through one of my favourite places Frodsham. Food is very good. Especially the Sunday roast platter for two enough for three to enjoy really.

Smart gastro pub on the edge of Helsby, was the perfect place for a family meal. The food and the service was fantastic. The atmosphere was lovely, spacious, and quiet, the location of the pub and its outside is a little dull, but the pub itself is great.
