Calm Sunday evening meal. Newly fitted out dining area. Lovely new furniture and decoration. No problem being seated into the dining room without a booking. Drink order taken quickly, and food order taken after a short wait. Service friendly and helpful. Sauces and condiments on hand if needed. Pleasant visit all round.

Good, safe choice for great dining in a lovely environment.

Food excellent and beautiful furnishings of the restaurant. Atmosphere spoiled by two individuals using the restaurant as a place of work. Dominated the space they occupied using Laptops & mobile phones incessantly for business use. Massive distraction when trying to enjoy our meal. I’ve heard of working from home but not the local restaurant. As regular dinners there, unfortunately we will not be returning.

Had a great girls night here with amazing food and our waitress Jane was fantastic! Everything was perfect except the terrible wine glasses! We were all very disappointed to see them still serving wine in clunky, thick, cheap glasses. Would be great if they could invest in some more delicate glasses, which really make a difference to a large group of women, all drinking wine!

Ate here yesterday evening, I had the pan fried chicken and my partner had the cheese and onion pie. Both dishes were delicious and the staff were so friendly and efficient. On criticism is that they had the calories on the menu, so I didn’t get a starter haha

The Hornsmill - Helsby I recently visited The Hornsmill and had a pleasant experience. Here’s my detailed breakdown and overall thoughts: Food - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4/5) The three cheese and onion pie was delicious with a perfectly golden crust and rich filling. However, the mash arrived lukewarm, which detracted slightly from the experience. Drinks - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4/5) I chose a J2O, which was refreshing, but I felt the drinks menu could benefit from more non-alcoholic options. Service - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5/5) The staff were attentive, friendly, and helpful throughout. Their positive attitude and prompt service really stood out. Atmosphere - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4/5) The cosy decor and inviting ambience were wonderful, but it was a bit noisy during peak hours, which slightly impacted the overall experience. Value for Money - ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3/5) While the food quality was good, the portion sizes felt slightly small for the price, making the value a little underwhelming. --- Overall Rating: 20/25 (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️) The Hornsmill is a lovely spot for a relaxed meal with excellent service and a cosy atmosphere. There’s room for small improvements, but it’s still a great choice for a casual outing. I’d recommend trying their pies or visiting during quieter times to fully enjoy the experience!

The waitress was lovely and very apologetic but we waited an 1hr 15mins for our food which was not ideal with a 2 and 5 year old. The waitress was very apologetic. When the food did eventually come out part of the order was wrong but didn’t say anything as could not be bothered to wait any longer for it to be resolved

Christmas lunch very disappointing food was very bland and tasteless

Lovely atmosphere staff are lovely and warm and friendly. Good choice of food on the menu. Good service and the food was excellent. We will be going again soon. Would certainly recommend it.

Booked for Christmas Lunch for 15 people, we are accommodated in a lovely area with plenty of space. Food was delicious and served promptly. Staff were excellent, very attentive and great service. Not an easy ask for a large group. Highly recommended

Table for 4 and long wait for food to arrive which was mediocre at best. Had a pot of tea but no milk ?? had to ask for it. Overpriced for what we got, beef pie had been in the microwave too long. Deserts were miniscule. The previous times we have been I was not overly impressed but one hopes for improvement but seems to be worsening. Won't be back Highly unlikely we will be back

Local to the area - Went here on Sunday for the Sunday roast that was amazing! the refurbished Pub looks fantastic and will be returning again soon. Ps. Please can I have Coca-Cola with my rum next time 😊

What has happened to this place? Christmas set menu, cold salty turkey, some orange mush, Hard nearly raw sprouts. Meal was disgusting. Service terrible, party of 15 and food was coming out late, The desert was meagre portions. Tablets arranged so we couldn't sit together, I asked for a full fat cola no ice, he put ice in it 20 seconds after asking, the drink was mainly soda water so tasted horrible. The atmosphere was like there should have been sticky carpet or sawdust on the floor. Only 1 disabled parking space in front. We won't be going here again.

Beautiful place, warm & cosy. The food was lovely & not too badly priced. The staff were very friendly and attentive especially the young lady who served us but the service was slightly under parr due to lack of staff.

No warm welcome nor was it even warm in there, had chicken & bacon cibatta, small piece of chicken only the end of the bacon & stacks of lettuce. Friend noticed a hair hanging from my food ( not my colour) the matter was resolved in the end with an apology but not the point I ate on my own as my friends had finished there's! Whole experience was not pleasant, it's ashame as we always ate there pre-refub & it's always been lovely, my friends & I have decided to meet up elsewhere sadly, no atmosphere in the place at all & the staff looked miserable.

Excellent meal on a busy Saturday evening . All of the staff were polite and friendly , and excellent customer service skills .The food was really excellent , compliments to the hardworking chefs ! The newly refurbished main restaurant is really comfortable and a great atmosphere throughout . Well done to all the team and thank you .

Booked Hornsmill for an 89th birthday, 4 adults, took 25 mins to get drinks / food ordered, a couple who arrived after us order taken 1st. Once main meals were finished there was once again an unacceptable wait to be asked if deserts wanted. Lovely inside after refurb but service needs to be massively improved felt invisable. Mentioned complaint to a waiter to be explained had been very busy still no excuse for ignoring customers.

Have always received fantastic service & food at the Hornsmill all the staff are lovely we visited on Sunday its now had a new makeover which is wonderful more modern highly recommend

Very busy when we went, fortunately we had booked. Noisy atmosphere reduced the group enjoyment. Food acceptable but not exceptional although still good value for money. Would still recommend and return for another meal

Nice drive out to Helsby through one of my favourite places Frodsham. Food is very good. Especially the Sunday roast platter for two enough for three to enjoy really.

Smart gastro pub on the edge of Helsby, was the perfect place for a family meal. The food and the service was fantastic. The atmosphere was lovely, spacious, and quiet, the location of the pub and its outside is a little dull, but the pub itself is great.

We came as a party of 10,the girl serving us was absolutely superb at her job, food all came out quickly and hot and tasted absolutely amazing, couldn't fault anything at all, can't wait to come back 😊

Stopped off on a bike ride for a 14.95 afternoon 2 course deal. Disappointed. The starter took 25 minutes to come and it was about 2 inches wide and an inch deep (a fishcake), in a little cream sauce. The 5oz steak writes took a further 10 minutes and was overdone instead of the "pink" I had chosen when asked. Tough and dry. The dipping peppercorn sauce was nice. The guy who served me was tremendously helpful with some first aid I needed. But other than that I don't recommend it. It was small, sparse helpings, not that nice and took so long that I missed my train out of Helsby.

Who ever thought putting silver skinned onions in the steak & ale pie was a good idea must never have eaten it. 09/06/2024 Thank you for your reply which just proves the point and considering the food is not prepared in your kitchen but elsewhere and only warmed up on the premises, I don't think telling your kitchen staff will have any effect.

Fantastic family meal tonight to celebrate my wife's birthday. Food as tasty as ever. Service provided by the very friendly and efficient waiting on staff. My new go to restaurant for eating out. Keep up the excellent high standards people.

Fantastic, today Wifes birthday they coped with 11 of us with ease, not like a lot of other pubs in the area the roast dinners were brilliant and good value for money.

First time we have visited The Hornsmill, have driven past many times and thought of making a booking. The experience was very good, we were very impressed. The staff accomadated us and were very understanding that we were a little late arriving due to major road works. Our meal was lovely. Food well presented, hot and in good portions. Very good value. The staff were very good, customer care was very good, especially as it was very busy. We will visit again. Experienced no issues. Would recommend.

Anniversary dinner for parents & late birthday get together for brother in law, Great service, wonderful setting, food of a lovely quality if I had to comment on anything most thought especially the men folk fries were a tiny serving with the 2 burgers my partner & brother inlaw ordered, very light on the fries for men my sister commented too her & my mother had steak & they said could of done with more chips that was the only thing,,, Other than this overall it was very nice , quality food I had zero complaints & I had the streak & ale pie also a fruit crumble & ice cream, Everything I had was great my son had smoked fish he was happy too a wonderful waitress very attentive not overbearing, just great I will definitely call in again , Brilliant setting xxx thank you xxx
