Turtle Bay York in York

My wife and I booked a table for dinner last Thursday. We needn't have bothered as the place is quite big and there were very few other diners. The sparseness of other people throughout the whole evening made the atmosphere feel quite dead despite the upbeat piped reggae music. We were greeted by a pleasant young chap who seated us at a table near the kitchen and shortly afterwards we were given menus by a young lady who told us that cocktails were two for one at the moment. Shortly after that another waitress came over to take our drinks order, who wasn't nearly as pleasant, and who told us that cocktails were definitely not two for one! When we stated that we had just been offered two for one cocktails she remained equally as unpleasant and adamantly refused to listen. No reasonableness at all, even if she was right and the other waitress was wrong you'd at least expect an apology for being misinformed or even an offer to honour the initial advice given. My wife and I were quite taken back by her brusque nature so didn't argue the toss, but it put a dampener on the whole evening. Food was pretty good despite the rude and slow service and the selection of hot sauces is rather wonderful at Turtle Bay. The music gets a bit wearing after a while, though, and the fact that there were so few other diners in such a large restaurant just made the atmosphere feel forced and clinical. There was just no warmth or spirit in the place at all, given that and the run in with Miss Ain't No Two For One, I couldn't wait to leave!

Wow first time at Turtle bay there was a table of 10 girls and we had the best time brilliant atmosphere food and cocktails! Massive shout out to Josh our server he was brilliant and made our day so a massive thank you to you x 💙

La comida era fantástica. Comienzo: Alas compartidas y halloumi que eran geniales. Nivel de especias perfecto. Principal El pollo Mo’bay era tan bueno, me encantó la salsa rica. Arroz y guisantes y plátano un gran acompañamiento. Costillas de ternera con papas fritas también era bueno. La carne se cayó del hueso. Los cócteles eran encantadores y refrescantes. Excelente relación calidad-precio. Volvería de nuevo seguro! (Y Florence era una camarera magnífica que era educada y eficiente)

While the cocktails here are always nice, Samm made the experience just so much better. He came over when we needed, rather than having to wait, and gave the best recommendations for new drinks. The food was delicious and catered to my allergies and the drinks were so fruity and nice too. Thank you Samm!!!!

We did bottomless brunch here for my daughter's 18th, what a fantastic experience. Carsyn our server went above ans beyond and was fantastic all round. Highly recommended and much appreciated 😌

This is my first ever bottomless brunch and I don’t think Samm (with 2 m’s) and Alex could have possibly provided a better service. I love Turtle Bay more than I love oxygen. Great value for money and lots of drink for your time

Fantastic place, been there multiple times and the food and service are always top-notch. Every interaction with Niall is great; he surely deserves a raise! Big kudos to those in the kitchen as well—the food is scrumptious and delicious every single time. Shoutout to the bartender too! What an experience this was.... 😅 our flyer on one of the sauces caught fire by the candle on the table while we had our food 🤣 probably the downside of the world smallest table. We should've been seated to a bigger table as the restaurant was dead empty. Anyways. Food was fine, more spicy than you'd expect, chips and rice very bland. 5 star is for the staff how they handled the situation of the fire on table. 🫡
