This restaurant is well patronised and the interior is nicely appointed. The service is good, even though there was a sense of arrogance from the suited waiters. The food is good but not great and the bill was excessive for what was served. I also disagree with the self imposed tip, which should be at the discretion of the customer and not the establishment. Other than that would we go back ? Probably.

Beautiful setting however the food did not match. We weren’t offered the set menu or Sunday menu even though I knew these existed so had to request these. I ordered a Rose wine, my mistake I thought as I hadn’t requested a specific wine that I would get the standard house at £7.50. Not the case, which I found out at the end I was given a £12.50 tiny glass of wine. We ordered from the £30 set menu however sides or sauces were extra, steak was extra, and certain desserts were extra. The food was okay but had much better from cheaper restaurants. We won’t be back.

First time yesterday to celebrate mums 84th birthday a treat from me and my daughter it was really disappointing. Ordered Sunday roast the meat (beef) was very tough and tasteless not sure a steak knife would have helped! The roast potatoes were dry and had that stale taste and the green beans were far too chewy it was served with a single small gravy boat to share. The presentation wasnt particularly good either. On a positive my daughter ordered chicken that was better presented but nothing special. The starters were ok however I’ve had a lot better for a lot less money. The atmosphere is nice and colourful but overall the experience did not meet my humble expectations. Wish we had stuck with the original plan afternoon tea at Betty’s!

The food was so underwhelming which was disappointing. I’ve had mixed experiences at Ivy restaurants and I think the food was the worst here. Such a shame. I ordered the sea bass with mash. On arrival it appeared to be a sea bass fillet with a lot of sauce and that was it. I lifted the fish to a portion of potato no bigger than a match box! The host was lovely throughout our visit and did recognise the portion was not right. She then arranged for some more potato. It was just really bland and no veg or any substance to it. Was lovely company and as mentioned our host was good.

We had dinner at the Ivy last night and was looking forward to enjoying a really nice meal together on our weekend away. Unfortunately, the filet steak tasted absolutely disgusting, it was like we had been served out of date meat. Worryingly, when I asked the manager what date was on the meat, she was unable to tell me and could only say that the meat comes in fresh everyday (I find it hard to believe that there is never leftovers?!) Granted, the meal was taken off our bill, but we still spent near enough £80 on one meal (lobster linguine, which was actually very nice) and a couple of olives, bread, a glass of wine and a coke. Miller & Carter is just over the road and so we'd definitely recommend for people to go there instead.

I had the most fantastic experience at The Ivy in York today with two friends. We were celebrating some wonderful news—one of my friends shared that she’s pregnant! The food was incredible, and the service was beyond attentive. From start to finish, everything was smooth, welcoming, and seamless. What really made our visit special was our waiter. He overheard our excitement and, when my friend briefly stepped away, he quietly asked if there was anything they could do to make it extra memorable. Shortly after, they surprised us with a beautiful cake on the house, with “Congratulations” written on it. It was such a thoughtful touch and truly took our experience to another level. Throughout the meal, the staff was attentive. We never had to ask for anything; they were always one step ahead. I can’t praise the team on shift today enough for their warm hospitality and attention to detail. Thank you, Ivy York, for making our celebration unforgettable!

We had booked a number of weeks before for a 60th Birthday treat for me & my family..On arrival Lovely entrance lovely reception told them we had booked a table to be told the table wasn't ready was told to wait at the bar ,so we thought it would be just for a few minutes...Wrong !!! 20 mins later we were guided to the table we had booked weeks in advance .. However the food was delicious & the waiter we had was Great.. We had a fantastic family meal. The one thing we did find was people sat at the bar eating a meal whilst we were trying to get drinks which we gave up on as we felt uncomfortable reaching over someone that was eating...

We would just like to leave a review for The Ivy and our server Lauren. Nothing was too much trouble, never waited too long for each course, it gave you a chance to savour each course and discuss what you had just ate. Our portions were bigger then we thought because we went for the dinner time 3 courses. We did choose different desserts from the 3 courses menu. Delicious. Then because it was our wedding anniversary they bought out an extra dessert with an anniversary chocolate plaque on it. We were stuffed but we made room! Loved it here and had a lovely time. Lauren was very attentive and welcoming to us. They all worked as a team which was lovely to see. Plus they have a stunning decor in there and the bathroom in the ladies is beautiful. Would definitely return. 💖

Disappointing all round really, where do I start! I took 4 elderly ladies out for tea, one with early onset dementia. I left them at the table for 2 minutes to nip up to the toilet and as I came back they all had water, and yes you know what I’m going to say, same as the early low scored review, it was £5 a bottle. They told me the waitress had asked them and I said it will probably be £5 a bottle, the other tables around us had tap water!! Anyway you know the rest, 4 pensioners could not understand £5 for water, so they didn’t order another drink!!! Secondly the menu, I’m 50 and could not see it, let alone an older lady, I asked for larger print, they said I know it’s stupid but that’s it! It was tiny writing! (1917 menu). Hence none of us saw the extras which should have been ordered with the mains, the waitress did tell us she would recommend peas or broccoli but there was about 10 sides, as I blew it up on my phone in the end when we got the bill to look! So we said yes peas, then as she’s took our empty plates I said we better have both there is 5 of us, she said that was fine, when our meals came basically we had eaten half of it before the broccoli made an appearance and then it was far more than al dente!! You couldn’t put your fork through it. At the time we paid, £15 service charge on top which we always tip but I think it’s steep to say the least. Pensioners can’t get their heads around service charges and charges for water so £25 I paid extra! And told them not to worry. I then passed the waitress our tickets for the cloakroom, she said you had to give them to the woman at the door. So there was 4 pensioners aged 80,79, and 2 x78 stood at the door along with another table waiting, utterly ridiculous and chaotic, people trying to get in and out of the small space, I did make a comment about it being silly. Anyway in conclusion, I used to like coming here, but it’s looking tired and they need to up their game for the prices they charge, also get bigger print menus, it’s 2024 for goodness sake. I for one won’t be recommending it like I used to.

I cannot fault The Ivy (York) in any way. It is not my usual style of venue, but me and my partner decided to try it given their 'Taste of Autumn' menu - it was exquisite. Not a single item of food was anything less than delicious; every course was delectable and we were even given a complimentary choux bun with chocolate coated strawberries as it was our anniversary. The service was exceptional, food was amazing, lovely atmosphere and decor - if you can afford the A La Carte, or manage to try one of their 'Taste of' style set menus, definitely take that chance!

Personally, I consumed: Rib eye 🥩, mimosa 🥂 and beer and dessert for what I paid, around $90 euros with everything and tip. The services are attentive and precise, the staff in general was friendly. It is a very nice place and if you visit York it is a must stop. P.S. In York, there is a minority of Latino visitors or locals so people are a little cold, I guess it's that natural resistance of seeing someone different.

The design and vibe of the place are botanical, clean, and sharp yet inviting. I ordered from the set menu, which included a green juice, Ivy breakfast, and pastries. Upon being seated, I was promptly offered water, tea, and coffee. The green juice was a refreshing, light, and healthy blend with subtle notes of cucumber and lemon. My Ivy breakfast featured three crispy and delicious hashbrowns, two slices of smoked streaky bacon that were full of flavor without being overly salty, a perfectly cooked tomato, soft and fluffy scrambled eggs with buttery notes, and a delightful little pot of beans served at the perfect temperature. While I was enjoying my breakfast, the pastries arrived—a warm, light, and flaky pain au chocolat and croissant, paired with strawberry jam that leaned on the sweeter side but was still a nice addition. To finish, I had a flat white with a rich, full-bodied flavor that was neither too bitter nor burnt. Overall, it was a great experience. The savoury sandwiches were delicious, smoked salmon and cream cheese, chicken and truffle mayonnaise brioche roll and pickled cucumber and basil double decker. Warm scones with strawberry jam and cream. The sweets, floral garden chocolate pot, served in a small flower pot, nice touch, apricot jam doughnuts, raspberry choux puff and a lemon and poppy seed cake, all extremely tasty. Steak at £30 + had nothing else served with it, although it was well cooked. Shepards pie, tasty but portion was very small, again nothing served with it. Chicken milanese was quite bland, sauce was a bit overpowering for me. The addition of a fried egg was a bit strange... yet again no sides with this dish either. Had to order thick cut chips x3 @ £5.50 a pop!! When we booked advised that if bill was over £100 (it was over £150) there would be a £20 discount applied... it wasn't & had to ask for it. Food was good - let down by disappointingly poor service. Good bits - food was delicious - restaurant was clean and vibrant. It was busy - but I'd generally take that to be a good thing! Bad bits - let's number them ... 1) Delivered one incorrect meal (fish cake instead of fish and chips) - but then left one (of four) of our party without food whilst our dishes were left. They left him chips, but then they delivered the correct plate (15 minutes later) with another chips. They then added this chips to the bill despite us not asking for it! 2) One order for Burger - with added cheese - no cheese actually on the burger when it arrived! 3) As usual, we ordered a bottle of wine for the meal. After pouring three small glasses, the server then put this in an ice bucket some distance form the table. However, no-one bothered to check when we had finished our initial glasses - so we ended up frantically trying to 'flag down' a member of staff so we could have a second glass. Crazy! 4) When the booking was made, for my wife's birthday lunch (booked via the app) - we attempted to use a £20 off voucher - all seemed good - but this was NOT applied to the bill. 5) What was applied to the bill was a service charge - for terrible service - and worse still, as the ultimate 'kick in the teeth' on top of the chips we didn't order and the invisible cheese from the burger. Laughable. You don't mind shoddy service if you're eating in McDonald's, but when a 'non immaterial' service charge is being added - it's not so palatable. 6) Points not added to reward membership! Though, off this experience, we're in no hurry to go back! In summary, food that was delivered was good (if lacking cheese!), as was the atmosphere ... but the service let the dining experience down badly!

We came around 17h, and though Tea times was over, we were very welcome and could had a delicious moment with a " cream tea" : nice warm scones, and a hot drink ☕️ . Very nice place, very net, clean, nice music and decoration. A "must do" in York !

The staff are excellent and they looked after us all through our meal. I would recommend The Ivy for a food experience at its best.

Disappointing given we have been to The Ivy in various locations. Some feed back from the group of five included, over cooked dry salmon, over cooked steak (medium rare was well done), desert bomb was very sweet and sickly (not same we have had in the past). It was my son’s graduation meal and he accidentally knocked over his champagne, they replaced it but then promptly charged us for it.

Appalling service! In on 14.12.24 at around 3.50pm. Our first visit and our last! We should have known really as everywhere else was so busy, yet this place was practically empty. Only 2 other couples in there, yet we were ignored by the young female waitress. There were two other staff in besides the waitress, a male and another female who apart from him replacing some mince pies on the display shelves, didn't come out from the back room area! After around 8-10 minutes, I asked one of the other couples if it was self service as non of us had seen a waiter/ress. I was told it was table service by the one couple who had had their order taken. Shortly after that, the waitress came out with coffee and cakes for the that couple. She was turning to return to the back room/kitchen when I asked her if it was possible to have some service. At this she smiled weakly and appeared to be going to take our order. However, I was aware that the other couple in there who also hadn't been served might have been in before us. So I asked her if they were before us. I've never seen anything like her reaction except a rabbit caught in headlights or a goldfish in a bowl gulping water! She appeared flummoxed, put on the spot and she appeared unable to make a decision. At this point I just said please serve them first, and she went over and took their order. Again she disappeared into the back area. We waited another 5 minutes, during which she came into the room, went into a 'cupboard' area, then out of the front door. Not once did she speak to us, either to take our order or apologise for any delay. Naturally, we left. Also no toilet paper in the loo, I had to ask for that too. The loo opened out onto the kitchen area which is actually is not totally environmentally friendly. Can't review the food or drink as we didn't receive the opportunity to order any!! After we left we went into a pub ( can't recall the name ATM) just along the same road, where we were greeted and served quickly by a welcoming, professional barman. We received our food, which was lovely, quickly. The young female bar manager, who can't have been much older than the dumbstruck girl in The Hairy Fig should be asked to give a course of customer service training to the Hairy Fig staff, as they appeared to have received non. She was chatty and engaging. Not recommended!

It was OK. We both had the large fillet steaks, not the best we've had compared to other specialist steak places but definately a cut above general restaurant/pub offerings. Chips really good. Staff very good. If you like your steak it's worth a visit but to me not enough to be a must-do destination otherwise.
