New owners have definitely made a huge impact since taking over. Food and drink was spot on when i went for a meal there. Will definitely be back in the near future.

Popped in for food today and there’s such a difference. The place was so clean and fresh, the staff behind the bar were so inviting and friendly with excellent speed of service! Can tell it’s under new management! I will definitely be returning!!

I was a local here a few months back, however I came in Friday night after work what a difference!! Straight away I was was served within a minute, can tell there’s new management here it’s clean the beer is so much better the staff are super friendly, think I’ll start coming in more 💯🙌🏼

Great atmosphere and friendly staff.

The new management and staff at the Turnpike are great! We can already see such a difference in just a matter of days! Great drinks, great atmosphere and the plans to bring live sports and live music back to the Turnpike will see us visiting a lot more!

Came in tonight pub is under new management. Greeted by a warm and friendly welcome, lots of exciting plans in place. We shall definitely be visiting again.

Very friendly place, nice atmosphere. Decent food and drink at a fair price. Have tried a few things on the menu, am definitely going back to work my way thru.

Came in for the England game against Slovenia, booked a table for 8 of us, table was ready for us with menus and cutlery already laid out which was a nice touch. Food came out quick which was nice as we were slightly late to our table! Amended - Came back thinking we will give the pub another go after how nice it was previously? And what the hell happened? Apparently new landlord, asked about offers … no idea … food was awful. Drinks tasted off, tables sticky and more.

Visited here for the first time last night and wow food was absolutely amazing. Staff were amazing and attentive and the drinks were lovely . Great atmosphere and will definitely be back . My family also said what a great experience this was so thank you our new local I think 😊

My friend and I visited the Turnpike today for a late lunch. Being a Wednesday we opted for the Curry and a drink deal. As there were no menus stating what the curry options or which drinks were included in the deal I went to the bar to ask. The barman said he wasn't aware it was curry day, didn't know what the options were and went scouting around for a menu. I ordered 2 vegetable Thai curries and 2 coffees...told the coffee wasn't part of the deal but could have a pint of lager each. As we were both driving I asked for just 1 pint be split into 2 halves. A shame there's no flexibility on the coffee option. Now I love spicy food but when the curries came I took 1 mouthful and started coughing, eyes watering, throat burning...the same response from my friend. I went to the bar to tell the barman we were unable to eat it, he apologised, came and collected them and took them back to the kitchen. He returned and said chef could add some salad to them to cool them down!!! How would that help?? We declined that suggestion so he said he would speak to the manager. He came back and said we could order something else if we wished, so we ordered scampi which came with a large 'blob' of tartar sauce in the middle of the plate..... usually served in a sachet or small dish as an accompaniment. Whilst we were eating, the barman, chef and another member of staff, who I'm assuming was the manager were all standing behind the bar chatting. I really think either the chef or manager should have had the courtesy to come across to us and discuss the issues we'd had with the food. Whilst the barman was pleasant and apoIogetic I feel this was poor customer service on behalf of the chef and manager.

Traditional pub food , good service.

A lovely local pub, and dog friendly too. There is a good selection of beers, lagers and cider, and a very reasonably priced food menu.

We came here for the first time as I'd read some good reviews on the food. Mixed opinions on the food however. Fish was massive and really nice, the fries were stone cold. Ordered 2 mega mixed grills but they both had 2 sausages missing and 1 egg missing. 1 even had a piece of gammon missing which should have been charged as a standard miixed grill. We asked for the steaks to be medium but they were rare and freezing cold. The chicken burger was really nice. The girl behind the bar who served us was so miserable it was like she didn't want to be there, maybe she'd had a long day but it wasnt really welcoming, think she may have been called Amy. The only reason we didn't complain was because we had a voucher off. The pub decor has also seen better days.

Clean and tidy, food came quickly.

Went in for a meal and the food was hot most definitely eat there again and the staff was so friendly especially the manager

I waited 25 till 28 minutes for my hot dog and fries. I spoke to the young girl who is wearing a green shirt said she will get it sorted and said go and sit down. My hot dog came straight away and was nice and hot it tasted delicious. The brioche style roll was a bit dry however it tasted nice as a hot dog but I would prefer it softer which would be better. Instead of saying go and sit down which what you would say to a child. Say take a sit sir and I will sort it out which is the professional way towards customers. Please choose your words carefully when you are speaking to customers.

Amazing atmosphere for the football! Pub was full and despite that food and drinks served really quickly which surprised us! Just a shame about the result!! We will be coming back a bit more to the pub as we are only round the corner!!

I thought the public house was very tired looking and dust on the surfaces in the raised seating area. This pub badly wants a full refurbishment.

AMENDED: Following my review the Turnpike has reached out and issued a more than satisfactory response to my review, Therefore it has been changed. I would still however like to stress the opening times need to be addressed.

Friday night nearly empty. You can get away from the sport on the telly. Beer excellent. Marston's pedigree. Gin and tonic would be better with a slice of lemon which they never seen to have.

Lovely place. Good service. I had a chicken and mushroom pie that came with chips peas and gravy. The chips were really good and the pie was excellent. Really good overall.

Food menus all over the pub and then get to the bar to be told no food being served. I get that these things happen but it would take 5 mins to remove all of the food menus.

Smooth saved time on a long journey.

We call in EVERY Thursday evening.Last week we waited over 15mins for a tea and a coffee whilst the 4 others in our group had almost finished their beers. This week, we were just told, we've run out of milk!( with a Co-op supermarket less than 50yds away.) Still serving meals, it's to be hoped none of their diners requested coffee.

Food was served fast and with pleasant service. Lovely after school dinner with my boy. Kids menu is great with a few different options. The cheeseburger 🍔 was juicy and fresh 😋

Fantastic food and excellent customer service

Lovely night out! It was my first time visiting the Turnpike and it's safe to say, I've found my new spot. Came here with a few friends and the atmosphere was great and the beers perfectly cold. Spent some time chatting with the lovely new owners and their VERY cute dog. During our visit Eurovision played on the TV giving everybody in the bar something fun to chat about together! From the bar staff to the regulars, you could tell everybody in there was having a great time. Definitely recommend this pub to anybody in the area and you can even bring your pups to join in with the good times.

We use this pub for small meetings of a local charity and they are so accommodating and food is great valueand the dog can go with me

Decided to pop in after work for a few pints, which turned into a few cocktails and shots. The cocktail menu was really good, included alot of my favourites! I opted for a couple of espresso martinis which for a pub was made perfectly! And the staff were really friendly. Will be making this a regular Friday night outing!

Busy night but food was very nice and staff extremely friendly. Sat down and had 2 starters and mains. All arrived hot and tasty! Will be returning.

Waited 40 minutes for a starter to be told it had been given to another table that came a long time after us. Had travelled from Tamworth as previously had a good meal here last year. Apparently under new management so not a good start. We had a refund as this is just terrible service, went elsewhere and got served main meals in 20 minutes.

Decided to try some food at the turnpike as it’s now under new owners with a “new” menu One word…disappointed..food took quite a while to arrive and when it did it was very dry and unappealing like it had spent the last 20 minutes under a heat lamp..the doner meat was crispy and dry along with pitta bread and the hunters chicken was all dry to,no bbq sauce Based on this we wouldn’t eat here again..great pub but terrible food.

We visited The Turnpike for its monthly quiz in February. The atmosphere was friendly and relaxed and the staff were very helpful and friendly. New manager Josh was well received by the regulars. There is a good selection of drinks on tap and the staff are happy to recommend their favourites. The pub is dog friendly without it feeling like there are too many dogs. We will definitely go back again.

I dont normally leave reviews but felt compelled after my first time visiting this pub. Atmosphere was great and the staff were genuine and friendly. Ordered the chicken burger and it looked and tasted great. I will be returning

Mashed potato was instant smash, egg was still goey and raw sent 1st one back 2nd one exactly the same. Barman very friendly and helpful.... no disappointment there...just a shame a few aspects of the food let it down

Staff extremely friendly! Food was quick and hot! The chicken kebab was brilliant and will definitely try the doner kebab next!

Came here to have some lunch with 2 friends! Pub was clean other than a couple of glasses still on tables. We all ordered fish and chips, was very nice and arrived quickly! Staff friendly!

Consistently a fantastic experience the land lady Christina and her team are always on hand, It was a shame to hear another customer being rude to the staff when being sat at the next table I could hear it was completely unjustified and the staff had been nothing but polite when trying to rectify a simple mistake. It was clear the customer was just trying to get a free meal.

Fabulous meal last night Staff were great Service they said it would be 30 minutes wait as busy this was ok food excellent I wish you all good luck it was so nice to see the place full with a mixture of ages We bought our grandchildren who enjoyed their Chicken burger and curry . We will be back .

Partner got surf & turf, I ordered cowboy burger. Both mains arrived within 15-20 minutes of ordering at nearly the same time. Burger was lovely, chips top quality. Partner enjoyed surf & turf however it would be worth mentioning what cut of beef they serve. Recommend if you're after a nice meal without the restaurant price.

We visited the Tunpike on Sunday for a family birthday meal. I have visited many times over the years but this time was excellent. The food was nice and hot, fantastically priced and as for the service I honestly couldn't fault it, nothing was to much of a problem the kids wanted cheese they got cheese, dog wanted water she got it to top it off my daughter got to have an ice cream sundae 🍨 ( she is cows milk intolerant). I will definitely be back when we are in Lichfield again. Thank you to all the staff....My mom left a very happy birthday lady xx

There is always a warm welcome at the Turnpike from Christina and her staff that we always feel right at home. The pub is bright, clean and cheerful but also very comfortable, cosy and relaxing. The service is brilliant and the staff are lovely and friendly. We were served by Sam who was absolutely brilliant, he was so helpful and answered any questions that we had about what was in the food and he was brilliant helping the children choose what drinks they would like when they couldnt decide. The food is to die for (I wholeheartedly recommend the ultimate southern fried chicken burger as a main and the chocolate fudge cake for pudding). There are plenty of options for those who have allergies or dietary preferences as well, so my eldest was very happy that he was catered for and he thought his vegetarian meal was delicious. We love the Turnpike and will be returning again ASAP. Thank you for having us!

Since Christina and the new team have taken over, it’s a brilliant place to go! Food is amazing. Fresh, good value, yummy! Shout out to Sam for being a star! Always delivers 100%. Goes above and beyond every time I’ve been in. Josh is a cocktail king! Again, nothing is ever too much. Molly is a gem. She never seems to stop. Christina is great. Lovely and friendly. She’s always helping out her team at the bar and really got to know us locals straight away. Each team member is awesome. Always chatty and smiling. They’ve really turned this place around…and they put up with my cocktail orders! It’s clean, it’s great value for money, and I couldn’t fault the team. Well done! I hope Marston recognises you and rewards you all for your hard work :)

A lovely warm friendly welcome from the team and landlady. Any request was never too much trouble. Comfortable atmosphere. A good range of drinks for all tastes. Food was fresh, well made and tasty. Didn’t have to wait long for food to be brought to the table. A great experience for a first visit. Will definitely return

Having lived within walking distance to the pub myself and my partner have tried to eat here many times. When we have been able to the food is affordable and lovely! Which is why we keep trying to come back but every time we have tried to eat here within the last 6 months we have been told the kitchen is closed and no food is avaliable. How can a kitchen be closed before 7pm on a friday/Saturday evening? We want to eat here but you make this impossible.

The meals were fantastic and I really enjoyed it and plus they are dog friendly aswell so people can take dogs into the pub and went on my birthday and thank you for my birthday drink ..

Have eaten here several times since moving to the area 2 months ago and can honestly say have never been dissapointed, staff are lovely too!

For a modernish estate pub this has a decent atmosphere. The selection of real ale was restricted to Pedigree and Wainwrights, but the Pedi was in good condition when I visited.

Really enjoyed our visit. The meal and dessert were delicious. Staff members were friendly and helpful. Even provided my 4 year old granddaughter with a box of toys crayons and paper to play with. Can't wait to go again.

Had a lovely meal yesterday. It was my birthday and Christina bought me a coffee which was so kind.. The staff were very friendly and efficient. We all enjoyed our food very much and our little dog enjoyed her biscuits. Will definitely make it our regular. We'll done Christina xx

Great atmosphere and excellent staff.

Great to see this pub starting to return to its former glory, your choice of the new Landlady is excellent- she has the character and personality to make this more than a success, particularly when the food offer returns, and I would suggest not just standard Marstons offerings but also some "Chefs Specials" . The bar staff I met on my short visit were excellent and have the the character to not just make this when combined with the Landlady not only a great local, but a destination pub. - I will return soon and many times thereafter.

Lovely bar staff, super food and drinks. Clean toilets and warm, cosy atmosphere. Reasonable prices. Good music on and darts board available plus juke box. Loved it

This place is overpriced on drinks and the bulmers cider I paid over the top for was out of date

This is one of our favourite pubs, it's always had a welcoming atmosphere so when the Queen died where else would I have taken my wife to raise a glass to her majesty and also enjoy some lunch however although the staff were lovely - the food was extremely disappointing. I really hope the part time flexible cook that you're advertising to hire can actually cook unlike the one you have. The bacon on the hunters chicken was overdone to say the least you may as well have served chicken with bacon on the side. And it all tasted like it had been blitzed in the microwave. Sorry it guts me to write such a bad review but we definitely won't be eating there again in a hurry.

Food was extremely delicious & cooked spot on. For my first visit here , I am well impressed and will definitely come again. The pub is well layed out with entertainment for the adults and children. And my personal favourite is that there are TV's at a select ammount of the tables, ideal for entertaining the children or the big kids (the eldest male of the family lol)... Staff were very polite and food was produced in a very timely manner and piping hot, straight from the kitchen and no waiting about. Highly recommended this place.

Busy local pub nice food good value for money

I am absolutely disgusted by the way senior staff speak to their employees and customers. The way I have witnessed the female "cook" treat her staff is horrendous, I don't understand how she can possibly get away with it. As a customer, I felt as though I was a burden and not welcome there. She wasn't friendly, offered no positive welcome whatsoever and constantly tried to rinse us of our money. She clearly has no idea what good customer service is, or even how to just be a kind person. I would hate to work there, solely because of her behaviour, I feel so sorry for the fellow employees. Do better.

No beer you an drink . Cask ale one of 3 that meens 1 out of 3 on at any time there are more televisions in there than curries entire stock
