First time visit and so impressed. Lovely varied menu. Had chicken sandwich and veg sandwich followed by cream tea and Victoria sponge. All excellent and one of the best cream teas we have had for many months. (All served in proper cups and saucers too) Menu looks expensive but high quality and big portions make it good value. An excellent afternoon treat and we will return.

It was far from peaceful. Music from the speakers was loud . The staff were too few and running round making me feel dizzy watching their efforts. Menu was very sameish sour dough and eggs seem to predominate . Soup was £8 which I think is way too expensive. Seems all about profit at the expense of customers and staff.

After reading the reviews on here I quite agree with them. I too have experienced the awful staff issues. I wanted to take a group of people there next year now as we have had to cancel lots of outings due to covid, and knowing they would have enjoyed a walk round the different shops. But when I wanted to ask about it she was rude . just like a bull dog chewing a wasp . I have worked in Hospitality for many years and a smile and a nice greeting is nothing and makes the customer feel at ease. Needless to say I will not be taking any one there!! I am so surprised they are still in business. this was before Covid appeared and still seems the same not very good

Been loads if times and never had anything less than pleasant service. Meals or snacks have always been very good Or better. Most people happy with the service dont revew. Those with a bad experience do more so. Surprised at those negative experiences. If I get a poor coffee or other drink, I point it out and get it corrected. I think that's only happened once here and a genuine apology and fast replacement was forthcoming. Missed going 're covid. Look forward to my next vist.

Visited Curborough visitors centre and found the very lovely Mabel’s Tearoom. Wednesday, midweek 12:30. Deciding on a coffee we made our first attempt to be served. There was a very long queue, service seemed slow so we went for mooch around the garden centre. On our return, the queue was a little better and we did manage to get served. This may be an indication of how popular this ‘off the beaten track’ tearoom is? Mable’s has a nice atmosphere, good choice of food ranging from snacks, meals and a wide variety if cakes, not too expensive, plenty of seating. There is a note on the menu to warn there may be a wait for food at busy times. More of a leisurely lunch than fast food experience, which suited us on this occasion. We were pleased with our experience. A small group of ladies were having an afternoon tea as we left and that looked very nice. We enjoyed our visit to Mabel’s but its not the sort of place you can pop into if you are in a rush!

Visited this morning with my partner. We chose a table and I went to order the food.20 minutes later I got to the front of the queue after negotiating the many children in Halloween costumes wanting separate lunches.Surely a buffet or pre arranged food should have been provided for a big extra activity like that rather than hold everyone else up.I was served by a very abrupt member of staff who then had till problems holding things up even more. Eventually the food arrived which was lovely food but the wait was unnecessary and unacceptable. Won't be hurrying back.

We visited Mabel's twice in one day - in the morning for tea and then for lunch later, both part way through a walk. We were surprised by the large number of tables but the separate rooms gave a more intimate feel. Our drinks and food on both occasions were fine and we received good assistance from the staff who delivered the food and cleared tables. Just one thing prevented me giving a 5-star review which was that they have someone taking orders at the counter on arrival who was not as welcoming or and friendly as one might have liked.

Been a regular here for many, many years for coffee and their amazing cake. We thought we’d treat some guests who were staying with us from overseas, telling them they’d love this place. Big mistake. They don’t serve sandwiches etc after 2.30 which we didn’t realise, but we were told this so rudely by the lady behind the counter that it was quite embarrassing. One of our group asked for a sausage roll, which it transpired could only be served cold as it was after 2.30. This meant it was heavy, chewy and got left largely uneaten. Conversely the orange juice which accompanied it was room temperature and we had to ask for some ice (which was served by one of the younger staff who were far more cheerful and polite). I refrained from giving this review a one star as the cake is still lovely. However in future I’ll be going elsewhere as there are far more accommodating and welcoming places to eat in this area. Bit gutted about this experience to be honest, it was embarrassing given we wanted our guests to have a nice lunch in a nice location. Fortunately, lots of other Lichfield places came up to scratch during their visit, thank you Faro Lounge, Melbourne coffee, Hedgehog pub and Brewhouse pub!

I went to Mabel’s today, as I always used to go as lovely homemade cakes. After today’s visit not sure I will go back.We did go at lunchtime and it was busy but the attitude of one of the assistants was awful, good customer & staff service was not on her menu today. After ordering and paying I was told they had run out so I ordered something of the same value so not to get snapped at. The food I ordered was ok but wouldn’t have again and my friends toastie was not a toastie as normally served. Very disappointed. My dessert looked lovely but failed to deliver on taste. Then miraculously they managed to find more of what I had been told they had run out of.Really sorry but not the Mabel’s and quality service that I’m used too. I won’t be back.

Located at Curborough craft centre in a rural setting. There was something for every one. The ploughman’s and chicken liver pate were very good. Most dishes are below £10 and the home made cakes are just wonderful. Wine, cider , beer as well as soft drinks are all reasonably priced. Great location if you are doing the Darwin walk, roughly midway.

We held our father's wake here in October - after public opening hours - and were very impressed with both the quantity and quality of the food, especially the delicious cakes (4 huge ones - fruit, carrot, chocolate and Victoria sponge). The staff were also very kind in supplying bags for us and our guests to take the leftover cake away, so that it didn't go to waste. Very good value at £6.50 a head for tea/coffee, sandwiches, savoury nibbles and cake.

Nice typical farm like tearoom. The food was good. We had a roast lamb dinner. There was a generous slice of lamb some boiled potatoes and roast potatoes on the plate, then a varied fresh vegetable selection came out in a seperate dish. My friend is gluten free and it was nice to see a choice of 3 different gluten cakes. I decided or try one and I was not disappointed in fact it was one of the nicest cakes I have had in a long time. I chose a slice of the lemon drizzle cake it was delicious, moist and very lemony , I definetly would try the other gluten free cakes on my next visits .

Visited here before, had a lovely time and amazing food. Recommended the place to my nan and grandad, thought they would love it here. Walked in at 2.20pm (not knowing they stop serving at 2.30pm) Upon arrival, checked the menu and the menu stated they stopped serving at 2.30pm. On realisation of this, I jumped straight to the counter to order hot food this was at 2.24pm so technically there should of been no problem with ordering food. The miserable member of staff behind the counter just looked at me, shrugged her shoulders and stated chef said weve turned everything off now so have stopped serving. No apology whats so ever, looked like she needed a lesson on hospitality and front of house service if you ask me. I was disgusted with her attitude! Wont be returning here any time soon, which is a shame. There was no reason why we couldnt of been served hot food today as was before 2.30pm and was treated horribly! Majorly disappointed...

I have been going to Curborough for many years now and always enjoy having lunch at Mabels. The food is very good and its usually a problem to make choices from the delicious menu. The reason I give a 4* and not 5* is due to being served barely luke warm rhubarb crumble with even colder custard for dessert - very disappointing. Sadly this is the second time recently a 'hot pudding' has been just luke warm. Also, the young man at the counter 'assumed' my friend had "disappeared without paying the bill" his words not mine, when in reality she had gone to the loo and he had come in to check if I was still there? Not customer friendly. But it won't stop us going again.

I had been “volunteered” to organise this event months ago, in great trepidation as my in-laws can be as wayward as a herd of cats. But the people at Mabel’s were excellent. The location is just right for such an occasion - my wayward cats loved being able to slip away to visit the Countryside Centre’s shops. The staff at Mabel’s pitched the afternoon tea perfectly - traditional stuff that delighted the older contingent. Though in a side room, we were frequently attended to by a very helpful waiter. I was really touched by the little things - table posies picked earlier that day of sweet peas and lavender from the garden. One of our party was a wheelchair user, and though there was one small step, the staff talked me through as to negotiate it, and I felt they had run through everything in their minds beforehand. It has left a very happy memory for a lot of people (possibly even for the four youngsters of twelve to fifteen): and I shall go to bed tonight very relieved!

This tearoom/café seems to have given up. The younger waiting staff are friendly but it goes downhill from there. I met with a business associate and we ordered Filter Coffee, Cappuccino, and 2 x Eggs on Toast. The coffee's were good, but we were disappointed with the Egg on toast, which was just that; a fried egg (!) on 1 slice of very thin, over done dry toast with a scrape of butter. £2.50. I don't know if this is the going rate but I would have happily paid more for better. As we were continuing our meeting I ordered another cappuccino and a hot chocolate. When they arrived they were both not much more than flavoured hot water. We took them back, and the waitress said, "oh is this machine still not working right then", to a more senior member of staff. She replied, disinterestedly, "I dunno" and walked away. The younger waitress was very apologetic and made two fresh drinks for us and brought them to our table. Needless to say, neither of us will be returning.

Lovely location, layout and food. Cannot understand why certain staff are so miserable and unhelpful. I can only assume that they don’t understand how important customer service is and perhaps need some coaching in this area. The owners should take note. Called in for coffee and cake recently. Older rude woman serving who was most unhelpful. Ordered 2 cappuccinos which were dreadful, just milky coffee. Can't be bothered to go into details about the greasy bakewells and the faffing that insued from daring to ask what the different cakes were ( which she didnt know, and so huffed off like a sullen teen to the kitchen). And all for over £12! As someone who works in hospitality i'm shocked at the lack of customer service, the rudeness, the freezing cold 'conservatory' and awful coffee. They desperately need a shake up and a new front of house server. Purely trading on captive audience visiting the shops ( which are great!)

Stopped at Mabel's tea room on a group bike ride. Wished we hadn't. The staff have the manners of a ... (too rude to say!). One of our party was presented with a portion of poached egg on toast - two rounds of toast (unbuttered) and two eggs. Another had ordered the same which did not arrive. On asking where her food was, one of the waiting staff came out with an empty plate and cutlery explaining that two portions had been put onto one plate expecting my friend to scrape half her food onto the empty plate to be passed on. None of us could believe wait we were seeing. Come on Mabel's, this 'service' is appalling and completely unacceptable. The staff did bring out another portion - this time one round of toast and one egg meaning that two people in our party paid £3 for poached egg - one getting two eggs the other one. This place does not deserve customers and, judging by the welcome we received, they do not want any!

For our meeting with our Ladies' Club we needed to order 32 portions of Fish & chips ( some had ordered chicken & chips and pies and chips) and these were delivered to our Club. The order was accurate, delicious and piping hot. The two Ladies who delivered them, Aysel and Sam were brilliant. They very kindly brought extra items e.g. salt, vinegar, mushy peas and curry sauce with no extra charge. Nothing was too much trouble. They even said we could bring the containers they brought the food in, back at our own convenience. Such lovely ladies, such brilliant service! All 32 of us would highly recommend their chip shop to everyone.
