Warmly welcomed at lunchtime. I had a choice of tables, but I would book ahead next time because it got busier around 1pm. I had a plentiful bowl of mixed salad and a lamb kofte which were both of excellent quality. Service was excellent, quick, and well organised. Definitely worth returning to!

Got myself spicy sausage and beef mousakka. The spicy sausage was so tasty I think it would be perfect if I had ordered rice to pair it with. By the time I am done, I was almost full so I didn’t get the chance to really enjoy the moussaka. Not because it’s not good but because the serving’s too huge for me! It was tasty and well seasoned. Would really love to dine in again to try their feta salad and kofte dishes! Service was quick and staff were very attentive to the guests.

Excellent food and fab service 👌

Went on 24th September with my son for my Birthday and been several times previously. Food amazing, staff amazing and atmosphere excellent 👍👌 Honestly it's the best Restaurant arround 🙏

It was a busy Friday night and we were just in time to get the only unreservered table - and we impressed with the food from start to finish. We shared a hummus starter with warmed pitta pieces - it was a delicious hummus, then for our mains the meat on the shish kebab was so flavoursome and cooked to perfection, and the aubergine vegetarian option was a proper meal too. Usually I find baklava too sweet but gambled as everything else was excellent - it was the best baklava I've tasted. The whole meal was just over £60 including a glass of wine. This will be on our priority list next time we come to Durham.

Fabulous food: Mum had grilled salmon, me spicy lamb stew. Both delicious. Two glasses of red, one Shiraz one Merlot both tasty. Friendly, helpful staff and warm atmosphere.

Had a great evening meal here over August bank holiday weekend. Restaurant was full and had a great vibe, felt authentic. Staff were really friendly and couldn't do enough for you. Our meals were delicious but be warned, portion sizes are big, be prepared! Highly recommend.

Great place, comfortable and great atmosphere, professional friendly service, food awesome.. had chicken kofte and kleftico.. kofte was flavourful and cooked well, kleftico lamb fell from the bone, the mash was creamy and with the sauce was perfect…. very tasty.

Great food and excellent service

The food was very flavourful and arrived quick however the prices are high and the size of the portions don’t match the price. The employees were kind and understanding. And the atmosphere is great. Overall if the prices and portions were better this place would definitely deserve 5 stars.

The staff are so friendly you feel like a member of the family. Portion sizes are overly generous, so don’t go overboard on starters and sides. Everything about the food is done to perfection; even the salad dressing is a cut above anything you’d get elsewhere. And the Yakut is as good as one would want from the top Turkish wine.

Visited today for lunch, food and staff were absolutely amazing. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

An excellent meal in great surroundings Lots of vegetarian choices in a wide menu. Great cocktails and desserts too. Friendly attentive staff. 5 stars all round except table clearing can be a bit keen and my cocktail was removed still a quarter full.

Tried the restaurant for the first time on Thursday night for a friends birthday. Each staff member were very friendly and the food was delicious. Really impressed with the decor and overall enjoyed the experience. We will be back!

Delicious, very tasty, and clean, and all the menu is halal (I ordered a fantastic cheese samosa, don’t miss it - and sweet meat slices and feta salad.. The restaurant, as is usually the Turkish food, is generous and generous. They serve bread and salad in a large quantity. I enjoyed it very much.

I ordered the lamb shish mutton skewers on the recommendation of the waiter and it was delicious! The atmosphere in the store is good, and it was almost full after 6pm. Salad and rice were fine.

I visited on a day trip to Durham. The staff were welcoming and friendly. I had the two course lunch menu, that is available until 4pm. There were plenty of options for starters and mains. The food was freshly cooked and well presented. The portions were a very good size. I would highly recommend this Turkish restaurant.

It's quite a surprise, and a pleasant one, to find a Turkish restaurant in Durham, on the steep road to the cathedral. The dishes, the decor, and the pleasant and polite service make you have a good experience. Menu prices are moderate and the offerings are many, authentic, and very good. It's a fine place to dine.

We had an excellent two-course lunch there. The service was quick, efficient and polite and the food was wonderful. My wife had sardines as a starter, and they tasted like they were straight from the sea. I had a vegetarian (beetroot based) starter that was full of flavour. We both had meat main courses - one beef, one lamb - which were outstanding.

I do love some Turkish food, and have tried many restaurants in the past years, however I had never been to this one due to the fact that I come to Durham for work (rarely). I have to say that the food was incredible (look at the pic), the service impeccable, and the pricing very honest. I wouldn't hesitate a second to recommend to a friend.

Greeted with a warm welcome. Lunch menu is excellent value for money. Quick service. Food is well presented. Portions are so big. My wife struggled to finish her Turkish Feta salad. Good range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks to offer which are reasonably priced for the city centre. With definitely return when we are next in Durham!

Amazing food and the best service

It would have been a better score if they had managed to bring me the main that I ordered . Putting that aside I did enjoy what they brought.

The food was absolutely amazing - we went for the mixed grill. The restaurant is warm & friendly, as are most of the staff. I have unfortunately given a low score for service as 1 particular (male) waiter we found to be very unfriended, barely spoke and when he did gave 1 word answers. When we finished our meal the waiter was quick to clear the table, wiping it over making it quite obvious that he wanted us to leave. Before I had even had time to get my coat on the waiter had came & placed someone else's wine on our table & was ushering those customers to our table while I was still sitting there - this was uncomfortable for both myself and the other customers. It's a shame that a lovely meal was tarnished by poor service.

Walked past this restaurant and thought we’d return and then checked a few reviews before in fact popping in. The staff were very welcoming and efficient. The portion sizes are very generous and the food is very tasty. Good value for money. Can highly recommend.

I love this place! The staff are friendly, it feels like a family atmosphere. The decor is lush, with velvet lined booths, greenery hanging from rafters, it's really lovely inside. I've never had bad food here, and would recommend it for anybody.

Visited Saturday 18/05/2024 Staff very pleasant and attentive, service was very quick throughout. Nice setting, clean and modern. We very much enjoyed generous starters of Turkish Sausage (£7.50), and Mussels (£8.95), served with Turkish bread. For mains I had the Mixed Grill – though tasty, this certainly wasn’t as big as I was expecting for £22.95. It consisted of a lamb cutlet, plus several chunks of kofteh / shish meat, rice and side salad. My partner had Chicken Iskender – this was a larger dish for £18.95, but was basically all the same taste and texture throughout, so he found it hard going and couldn’t finish it. The fries were just that, much like you’d get in McDonalds. As I say, good in some respects, but I don’t think an early return visit is likely.

Good place, very good presentation and delicious food. It is also one of the cheapest things here. However, as a suggestion, add ingredients that may contain allergies to the menu.

Food was good. The bread was a bit dry, probably because was Sunday. All was nice and the prices were OK. I recomend this place.

We have dined twice now at the Turkish Kitchen in Durham. What a great restaurant. The food was amazing, the staff were very friendly and the service was excellent. I really can’t recommend this place enough. Try it, you won’t be disappointed.

We arrived in Durham for 2 days and had lunch here on the 1st day and it was fabulous. Good menu, great service and delicious moussaka and Sardines. We then booked for dinner the next night and weren't disappointed. Absolutely fantastic food, all so fresh and gorgeous wine too. Will definitely come back next time we're in Durham.

This was my second time visiting with my family and I really enjoyed it again. Great service, the decor is stunning and the food is really tasty. We had tuna and sea bass with a side of chips-reccomend a side. We shared the pistachio ice cream and baklava. Felt very full at end. Love the complimentary bread and turlkish delight- nice touch. It is pretty central to Durham Also we didnt book we were able to walk in. The toilets are boujix

Outstanding food, cooked to perfection. Personal Service. Lovely owner who took the time to have a conversation. No anonymity or standard, restaurant turn over time. We rarely have an opportunity to dine out away from a large family but when we do, there’s nowhere else we’d go, (this despite it being an hour’s journey for us.) Today we sat for four hours and despite being stuffed to the gills with our lunch Meze and Shish, had to take a share platter home for supper. The thought of leaving weeks between culinary delights was too much.

Quiet unassuming little restaurant, Monday afternoon a bit quiet, music not too loud, food excellent. Dropped my serviette and waitress supplied a fresh one 2nd to none service. 👍

I’ve eaten here several times with work colleagues. Each time we go the food is decent, but we always feel we are being rushed out of the restaurant as soon as we’ve had our main course (despite booking in advance), which spoils the atmosphere. I also like to end my meal with a decent Turkish coffee (which is poor quality here). I have given constructive feedback but the waiter and manager were both very defensive and rude. For these reasons I will not be back.

It isn't often I can say that when I dine out, that everything on my plate and the service was absolutely perfect. But this little restaurant in Durham was. Definitely a must to try. Well done everyone in the restaurant for a truly memorable meal.

This place is my absolute favourite restaurant in Durham. So far every visit everything has been so tasty and always cooked to the same standard, as well as very speedy service. The two course lunch deal also makes it amazing value for money. I highly recommend the chicken shish, hummus, lamb kofte and the beetroot starter. The pinot grigio was also delicious!
