Saturday lunchtime visit. Staff helpful but seemed a bit awkward with themselves, maybe on a trial shift? There was a wedding on next door so maybe they had been drafted in to help just for the day. Anyway, wines pleasant….as are the surroundings. I like the fact they automatically give you bottles of tap water too without having to ask. Unfortunately food was not great. We had steak (very hard to cut & chewy, despite being filet) with fries (undercooked) and chimichurri sauce (VERY badly made. Just a tasteless oil slick and I normally love chimichurri) £180 for 2 of us for lunch.

Being Sunday we as a family of 3 went for a walk in this beautiful village after a walk we went for lunch at The Triton Inn. I asked the staff for a table for 3 to sit inside. They refused to allow us to sit in and when asked can we please sit outside they were not willing to welcome us. Felt like discrimated because of our ethnicity.

A very busy Sunday, but the young serving staff were rude, bordering on aggressive. They are not well trained - reaching in front of people to put food & drinks on the table; banging them down really hard! Delivered our food intermittently; didn't ask if we had what we needed (condiments etc). We're not happy when we asked for things to be brought to us. Did not come back to check on us. Weren't forthcoming with the bill, we had to ask several times. Food ranged from average to ok. Chairs very rickety!!

We ate here today on a recommendation and we weren't disappointed. There was a good variety of food available. Everyone on our table enjoyed their dish, and dessert. The ambiance and decor was very pleasing and the service was polite and professional. Despite it being busy, staff were attentive and it wasn't loud. Dogs were allowed inside too.

Nice facilities and surroundings, organised Covid measures was good to see. However, staff lacking in customer service skills, nothing terrible but would make a difference to the whole experience if they were more caring, friendly and attentive. Food was really tasty, slightly soggy pastry on the steak and ale pie and soggy chips.

Went for lunch yesterday with my brother who was visiting from France, we were given a table and when the waitress came to take our drinks order I asked for a pint of Amstel he asked for a pint of 1664 the waitress didn’t know what he was asking for. I had a fillet steak which was well cooked but lacked vegetables he had Steak and ale pie which was way overcooked 25% inedible and although he told the waitress it wasn’t good she came back and offered him another one, which as he had eaten a lot of the pie he declined, it wasn’t taken off the bill which I feel it should have been. I have had some very nice meals at the Triton but based on yesterday they are resting on their laurels the food was no where near as good as it used to be I would give it a miss.

I had driven past The Triton a couple of times and thought it looked nice, so we came here for lunch. Warm wood fire on a wet, chilly day, a pleasant welcome and a menu which offered just the right light lunch we were looking for. This was tasty and attractively presented. Excellent Frothingham bitter and spotless bathrooms. The festive menu looked good so we'll be back in December for dinner.

Attending a charity lunch we were somewhat deafened by lots of chatter and clatter from both kitchen and bar area which meant 50% of our excellent speaker was missed. What a shame. Lunch was ok and the pud, sticky toffee pud with 2 sauces outstanding. Disabled parking not either ideally placed and difficult to detect in the rain.

Booked for today (Sunday) a table for 5pm expecting, and looking forward to having Sunday lunch. Given our table and told that the three Sunday lunch meals were sold out. When we mentioned that that was what we had come for, we were told that as it was 5pm they usually had sold out by then.....it doesn’t mention this on the website! The menu is not the largest so two of us had the pie, which is large but heavy, the liver was a much smaller plate but not so tasty. We have been here now three times and sadly won’t be returning.

My husband booked The Triton as a birthday surprise for myself with 17 family members, including children. We were sat in a separate room which was perfect. The staff were so helpful and were very accommodating of any requests. The meals had been pre-booked and arrived on time. We had a number of bread platters to start, followed by a variety of different main courses. They were all cooked perfectly and were delicious. We would highly recommend for a family gathering for a special occasion.

Passed through the area on business and decided to stop for a spot of lunch. I ordered a steak sandwich with a side of chips and veg. Safe to say that I was very pleased with the food. The steak sandwich was full of excellently cooked meat, a little too much onion chutney for my taste but nevertheless easy enough to remove some and it was still very tasty. The chips were equally as good and the veg was probably some of the best that I have been served - tender yet still flavoursome. The service was great and the bill was even better. Less than £20 for two of us with sides. 100% recommend.

Good parking and a reasonably well turned out pub. Good service, perhaps a little slow, but very friendly and easy to get on with. Menu doesn’t exactly inspire but....many of the dishes are surprisingly well prepared and presented. The pie was too heavy on pastry but the fish and chicken were both quite excellent. The pub is clean, including the toilets. In fact it’s a good little spot for lunch with easy access to the motorway. Give it a try.

Food was not cooked as ordered, bread was toasted to hide the non existing freshness! Quality was awful and really did not enjoy it one bit! The only person happy was the dog! Real shame, will not return for food, only a drink! Such a shame as staff seemed friendly. Seemed silly to complain, instead left feeling sad.

I came here last week with my children for tea. I was really looking forward to the steak night after looking at their facebook pictures, however the steak was just ok really, the chips were soggy and my sons 'brantingham' burger was literally raw in the middle and inedible. My daughters asked for chips instead of mash and for my little one too as he is allergic with their sausage, they served the chips covered in gravy which again they did not eat. I have always enjoyed a nice meal here and was really disappointed at what was served to us this time. Wont be hurrying back.

I couldn’t praise the Triton more for the fantastic food that we had. We received about eight chips so not good when paying those prices ! Needless to say disappointed

Main course was well worth it, the service let the night down. Desert was not comparable to the main course. If they train the service staff, it might be a fabulous place. Lots of locals, and not too much competition, so some easy improvements would see the ratings vastly improve. When questioned about why the desert took so long, the answer was, it just did. The server was obviously reluctant to say anymore, but that’s the answer the kitchen gave! It is trying to be upmarket, but doesn’t know what customer service is. This was obvious with our waitress sitting at the bar with a glass of wine in her hand before we had finished our meal. Acceptable in a big pub/restaurant with multiple shifts and customers, but not in a small establishment like this. Would give it a second chance given our locality, but please improve the service. Bringing dishes out on a tray with multiple waiting staff does not help when you have waited longer than you should have for a fairly empty restaurant.

Fish and chips - it was £13 which is a bit pricey but a nice pub so to be expected. Staff well presented and polite. The fish was cod loin so a chunky bit of fish requiring some cooking to cook all through. This meant the batter had gone past its best. The triple cooked chips were also well overdone and would have been nice if not (mushy in middle). Maybe it was dirty fat? You can see from the photo how dark the chips and the fish batter are. In summary, if I’m going to pay £13 for fish and chips it should be pretty close to perfect - this was a mile off that.

When you pitch your business at this price level it needs to be fairly seamless. Service is variable and flatters to deceive. Our table was nearly given away because we had a drink outside and the wine order was incorrect. These were rectified fairly quickly. There seems to be nobody senior in overall charge. There needs to be. The mains were priced at over £20 and were small in size I thought nouvelle cuisine had run its course Desserts were poor The creme brûlée was basically ice cream At over £200 for four of us it needs to be up a level I did not leave feeling full

We did book for an early meal,as we know it can get quite crowded. We were asked what drinks we required and if we were ready to order,We all ordered our drinks and our food from the specials board. At this point it would have been nice for them to ask if we required any vegetables, potatoes, chips or rice. Our drink arrived first was the cola followed by half a larger, then the pint of larger last was a bottle of cider. Our main meals came three of us ordered the same. They arrived two meals followed several minutes later by the third, so we all waited for the fourth meal, which arrived sometime later. We then ordered four coffees and three cheese and biscuits. Two coffees arrived then later two more arrived. Followed by two cheese and biscuits. When after a time we realised that the third cheese and biscuits was not going to arrive, we had to go to the bar area and ask for them. Finally they arrived only to find they hadn’t put a knife on the board. Next time I invite our friends out for a meal I think we will definitely go to another village restaurant not far from Brantingham.

This old world atmosphere is still retain. However our service was poor and the menu was not explicit enough to tell you that any vegetable were extra. We had some lager from the bar, main courses, cheese boards and coffee. The cost for four was well over £100. We would normally have had vegetables and a bottle of wine and even indulge in a sweet. We left feeling as if we had escaped a Con. We won’t be back.

Giving The Triton another chance after our last visit, three friends met up for a meal. Despite it’s rustic wooden floors, the gastro-pub (can’t call it a real pub) was laid out for evening service giving the appearance of a restaurant. We chose a table and were given menus. A limited number of main courses on offer, and no specials, however some are quite pricey, so after careful thought we ordered, my friend and I chose the pan-fried chicken and my other friend ordered sausage and mash. The sausage and mash was a good-sized portion, but did not include vegetables in the price, so just appeared as three sausages on a pile of mash with a jug of gravy. Our chicken was disappointing in size, comprising 2 small pan fried chicken breasts, char grilled sweet corn, a few mushrooms, a fondant potato and some purée. For almost £16, it didn’t present as good value and certainly wasn’t filling as a main course. Additionally the jug of jus/gravy was so hot it was difficult to pour out. On a positive note, the food was all beautifully cooked and presented. Having been offered the dessert menu, one of my friends was disappointed with choice as most involved nuts and there was no ‘pudding’ option, only desserts. She declined to order, but my other friend order the lemon parfait and I chose the kiwi panna cotta. Having had to wait for cutlery, only a spoon was provided, which made the parfait difficult to eat, although delicious. The pannacotta was solid, with a blancmange-like texture - a bit bland in taste, with some sharpness from the coulis. We declined coffees, and got the bill which at £70 for two soft drinks each, three main courses and two deserts was a little on the high side especially as we weren’t particularly full from our meal. Probably not one to return to anytime soon, which is a shame.

Then after we finished eating, 2 members of staff were wondering around aimlessly with our main courses, clearly not having a clue about where they were taking them. After another 10 mins, we then enquired about our main course and lo and behold... the same 2 plates of food that the staff were wondering about with appeared again. Luke warm. Bar service poor. Kept waiting despite numerous members of staff stood around. Not seen once whilst we were sat outside to ask if everything was okay. We was served at the bar by the most lovely, pleasant and biggest chatterbox we had ever been served by. We got her name but we can't remember if it was Millie or Lily. She didn't stop smiling the whole night, every time we looked over she was smiling at something whether it was a customer or just into space. We finally got seated by the young gent who was also very pleasant. We both ordered the pie with chips which we was told was the best meal there. We was not disappointed. There was a particular waitress who as soon as we walked in already looked annoyed and unfriendly and I let it go a few times that she walked past giving our table dirty looks as soon as we sat down but it turned out that my 2 sister in laws noticed too. We've been to the Triton lots over the years, and always usually pleased. Since the menu change I was surprised to see only one veggie meal on the menu; a larger version of one of the starters (roast beetroot with goats cheese and almonds). I was advised to order a side to go with it, despite the £12 price tag which made it more expensive than several of the meat/fish mains which had potatoes etc already included. When the meals came, it consisted of cold beetroot (hard in the middle), three small piles of goats cheese and some flaked almonds. It was clearly a starter made larger and did not at all constitute a meal. When I complained to the waiter that I had not expected a cold dish as a main meal and it did not seem worth the money, he didn't look surprised. But then told me that it was only meant to be a light meal, which I challenged given the price. He then told me that they usually do another veggie option, and it was 'unfortunate for me' that they didn't have it on the menu. There was no apology or suggestion of anything that could be done to improve the situation. I was unable to eat much of the meal. There was no comment made when the waiting staff cleared the table, and no apology made at any point. And of course they charged me £12 for the dish plus £3.50 for the necessary side dish. I've given a two star rating as the kids were fairly happy with their food. But this was such a disappointing experience, I doubt we'll be back.

Then another huge wait for mains to arrive by this point my little boy in tears he was hungry. Very disappointed that a child's sausage and mash came with no veg I even asked if they could have some veg or just peas was told no...Kids do actually like veg believe it or not!! 3 cremated sausages on their plate which were discusting. Thankfully my daughters roast dinner was lovely. Pie main was ok shame the whole meal was only Luke warm though. Another ridiculous wait for dessert. Luckily kids all happy with their choices. I had the chocolate tart and pistachio ice cream and crumb. Good job the tart was nice as not one bit of pistachio taste at all. Total rip off and not worth the over £90 bill. She returned about 10 minutes later and took our order of two cod loin only to return a few minutes later to tell us that they had run out of cod loin and she would give us a few more minutes to make an alternative choice from the menu!! We were so disappointed and annoyed - why were we not told that there was no cod loin either when we arrived or at least when were given the menus to make our choice? I cannot believe one of their signature dishes will not be available on a Mother's Day weekend - needless to say we finished our drinks and left to eat elsewhere.

We went for my 60th Birthday meal on Sunday. The menu looked a bit more upmarket than the usual pub food and with restaurant type prices, I thought it would be a bit more special.Sadly,it didn't live up to expectations. My brother had fish and chips - the fish didn't taste very nice and the peas were dry. My roast beef was cooked perfectly but the whole meal was only lukewarm. The service was ok but not particularly enthusiastic - it was 5.15pm so not long before the end of their shift and the pub was very busy with lots of families with children when we walked in so the staff were probably tired but even so..We wished we'd stuck to the cheap and cheerful local in Brough whose portions and quality are much better!

We had some friends visiting us so we decided to take them to The Tritan Inn for lunch. We were greeted by the staff and sat at a large table in the bar area. It was very quaint and set out well but none of the chairs matched . This was fine except that some them were very low and a little uncomfortable for old codgers like us. There were two menus ,one was the menu of the day, which seemed to comprise of all fish dishes, The bar menu only had six main dishes to offer plus steak ,which seemed a small choice. We decided on the sausages and mash and the meat pie dishes. When they arrived they were hot and nicely presented. The drinks we ordered were excellent and the service first class . What let the meal down was the pie crusts which were so hard it was difficult to cut them open. The meat inside was cooked to perfection. The sausage and mash meals were excellent. We peeped into the dining room and it looked beautifully set out. We understand that the pie crust has to be a certain thickness to contain the meat ,but in our opinion these crusts spoiled the meal . The pub is in a beautiful setting and the staff very friendly and helpful, but just a little more thought on menu choices and pies with thinner crusts would make The Titan Inn excellent. To be fair from the number of patrons it already is popular. It is dog and children friendly too, with a large car park.We shall be giving it another try in the near future.

Good food and service. Great busy vibe around the place but the service and food didn’t suffer. I do feel that the roast beef dish should have slightly more veg. Also, round tables for large groups would be more suitable for social purposes but I understand the space constraints. Will return in summer :)

We decided to have starters and mains which we shared between us. Hunger got the better of us so there is no photo of the scorched mackerel or Jerusalem artichoke starter both of which were delicious. Main courses were beautifully cooked and exceptionally presented with interesting ingredients. There was lots of creative, culinary flair in evidence. Our only criticism was the length of time it took for both courses to arrive. Well worth a visit for a special occasion or if you're on a business trip and the company is paying!

We have visited The Triton Inn on numerous occasions for Sunday lunch, sometimes it's amazing and then others really disappointing. On our last visit I had Fish and Chips which on previous occasions has been tasty and adequate portion, this time the Cod was overcooked and on the small side. My wife had a monk fish special, at £18 it was really poor value, with only 2 small pieces of fish, accompanied by minimal vegetables, and although my wife found the meal really, really tasty it was definitely appalling value for money. She did mention it to the waiter when he asked if everything was ok but he simply said, "Oh I'm sorry about that." We appreciate that monk fish isn't a cheap piece of fish but I would expect to get a little more for my money. My wife finished her meal a good 10 minutes before I finished mine, this has never happened before, she is seriously the slowest eater in the world, if there was a competition for it, she would win! The meal was gone in a few measly mouthfuls and unfortunately she left the pub feeling really hungry, We also ordered another round of drinks when the meal arrived...... they never appeared. Needless to say that on this visit the staff did not receive a tip.

Visited over New Year after a walk round the local countryside so was looking for a quick drink and bar food. Welcoming atmosphere and a small but varied menu. I chose Steak pie and my wife had sausages and bubble and squeak. When the food came the quality was excellent and my pie was not the bog standard steak and ale pie but had a few refinements that made it stand out from the crowd. Better food than expected for a bar meal and definitely will be a repeat destination

We visited The Triton Inn today for Sunday lunch. The restaurant was busy and we hadn't booked, but the staff managed to find us a table. Both my partner and I were uninspired by the starters, so we both just opted for the main course of sirloin of beef. When ordering we were asked if we wanted cauliflower cheese, which we both ordered, but at no point were we advised that this was an 'extra' charge. The food arrived all plated up, apart from the cauliflower cheese, and looked nice, with the gravy already on our food. Our personal preference would have been for the gravy to be served in a jug. We were asked if we would like any sauces. We both requested horseradish. My cauliflower cheese was tepid at its best, and my partner said his was warm not hot.In fact the hottest part of both meals were the roast potatoes, and the coldest part the overcooked 'medium rare' sirloin. We can only conclude that the plated meals had been stood waiting for the roast potatoes. Eventually the horseradish sauce arrived. . just before we had finished our meal.We consider £31.50 (excluding drinks) for a no more than average 1 course Sunday lunch for two, to be overpriced, especially as The Black Horse at Ellerker only charges £17.50 each for 2 excellent courses, with nice cutlery and a tablecloth. At no time during our dining experience were we asked if everything was ok . . .The staff at The Triton Inn are mainly young, and there is nothing wrong with that, but there didn't appear to be a more mature person overseeing that the restaurant was running smoothly. This was our first visit to The Triton Inn, and sadly quite possibly our last.

We booked a table for 5pm for which we arrived ten minutes early Unknown’s to us that the restaurant dies not open until 5. We had to wait outside in the cold and eventually realised the side door was open.We were unwelcomely greeted by a lady who told us they were not open yet but nevertheless took us to the bar. When we got there, the guy on the bar was rude and pointed to a table across the restaurant and said ‘that’s your table’ not the kind of welcome you would expect. It would have been nice to be properly greeted and sat down at our table. In addition to this, the table we were sent to was only a table for 4 people and not the reservation we asked which was for 5 people including a high chair. The food was lovely and the staff thereafter were also lovely, however it’s a shame the people who appeared to be management/supervisory (non-uniformed) were so rude.We will not be going back any time soon, we felt very unwelcome.

It is important to say that we are regulars here and the majority of the time we leave the Triton extremely happy. However, our Christmas Eve experience wasn’t great. I can get over the fact we had to pay a £10 deposit per person to reserve the table (it was Christmas Eve after all), I can forgive the fact we didn’t get a table in the main bar and were relegated to the function room (even as locals) as it was quieter, albeit less cosy. But there were a few things that really let us down. The nibbles section of the menu lists bread and butter and olives so as a table of five we ordered some of both. I was expecting a nice bowl of different breads and olives for us to share but instead we received what was quite literally a single slice of toast, so we ordered another portion and shared the slices of toast, this wasn’t good value. The whipped butter was however excellent and the small portion of olives were tasty enough. The main courses we had were ok, the pie was a proper pie (not a stew with a lid) but unfortunately there was more pastry than filing. The ox cheek was nice but perhaps not has tender and moist as it could have been (but given how busy it was that is understandable). The bangers and mash was decent (local sausages) and came with plenty of extra gravy. I’d say on balance the quality of the food was good but expensive. I think it was the service that left us feeling disappointed, if a pub is going to serve a higher end menu and insist on taking deposits, the service needs to be impeccable but it wasn’t. There were times when we had to get up to ask for more drinks and our empties were left on our table which made it difficult to eat and again we had to ask for this to be sorted.

We took an elderly relative here for a Birthday meal. The atmosphere was lovely, and the food was okay - all the roasts had sold out, so the menu was pretty limited. I had a pork special, which was tasty, but only had 2 tiny pieces of pork loin on it for £18 - I didn’t think this was good value as i had to order extra veg to go with it, and pinch chips from my partner as there was no potatoes either! The others had steak pie, which they were happy with, and the 9 year old had the kids fish and chips which looked nice, but had too much batter on (apparently). Service was slow (40 /50 mins waiting for food) but it was busy, and the food was freshly cooked and hot when it arrived, so not too much of an issue. All in all - okay, would go back, but not in a hurry.

We haven’t been to The Triton for years. In fact the last time we had, it was a proper pub .... but no longer! It’s a fabulous country style restaurant. What a joy it was walking in to a log fire, and being greeted by a lovely attentive waiter dressed in a long old fashioned style apron. We hadn’t booked and it was a Friday lunch time and although it was busy, we managed to get a table for four. I think at weekends, you would need to book. I ordered the most amazing sausages and mash which were absolutely sumptuous and followed by a pannacotta all washed down with a glass of ice cold white wine. The service was wonderful. The ambience, fabulous and the food was a real Wow! This place is a hidden gem and we intend to return.

It was fairly expensive for a Sunday lunch but considering the taste it was good value. I would have preferred some more traditional puddings like apple pie, crumble or sticky toffee but that’s just a personal preference. The puddings were good but didn’t really inspire us to want to eat one.Only problem the seating was quite close together and we occasionally got knocked as people went past which was annoying. I have been a regular visitor to the Triton Inn. I go there because of the quality of the food. On a recent trip the menu had changed and it had lots of new meals to choose. I went for the dexter beef and my partner the belly pork with pak choi. The menu made it sound as though there were lots of tasty items and at £18.00 and £ 17.00 I anticipated a substantial meal. This was not the case. The belly pork was one slice of belly pork cut in half on a bed of cabbage, about a tablespoon, and that is being generous, and a few wilted pak choi leaves on top. It looked like a starter it was so small. Mine was slightly better but was not a meal that was going to keep me satisfied for very long, Having said that the food was very good but it was overpriced. My partner also ordered bread and butter as a starter. In the past is has been nicely presented with different types of bread. There was one small slice of bread cut in half and this was £3.00. I am not sure how this could possibly warrant this price. When I go out to eat I want to come away feeling satisfied and at the prices charged one would expect a meal that left you feeling as thoiugh you had eaten. This was not value for money and the menu is misleading as it leads people to believe that they are getting more than they actually do.

I visited TheTriton Inn on a busy Sunday afternoon for lunch. Id heard nothing but good things about it, so I was excited about the food and the restaurants aspirations. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with what I received. The salmon starter was very fresh and very well cooked. Perfect. The accompaniments to the fish were a little bit lacking in flavor, but it was nice. I ordered Halibut for main. It arrived, looked amazing but it was lukewarm and massively over cooked (or sat under a heat lamp for too long). I paid £18.00 for it, I was very disappointed. The cauliflower cheese was awful too. The manager agreed to take it off the bill but had no time for my comments around the tepid fish. My friend ordered the steak and ale pie, that too turned up and wasn’t very warm either. I had chocolate brownie for desert. It was really tasty and a good consistency but pairing it with orange sorbet was weird and not at all complimentary. The food disappointed me. The service was good, and the young waitresses did a sterling job of keeping everyone happy.

We have been regular visitors to the Triton and have seen it develop into one of the nicest places to eat in the West Hull villages. They have recently changed their menu, streamlining it, so not that many choices and if you are a vegetarian a very limited choice indeed. In fact if you are a veggie who doesn’t like mushrooms then the current menu is not for you! We opted for some bread to start and the expected bread basket didn’t arrive, just 2 small slices of toasted bread with some course salt in a pile and some beef butter (marmite and butter whipped together) all served on a mini chopping board. Not quite the warm crusty bread that we intended to share and perhaps a little pretentious! ( £3 too - rather steep) Mains were tasty but husband thought the portion rather small and my pie was served without a vegetable in sight except potato. Desserts were excellent but again a little small. The average score I give is perhaps a little harsh but we have had better meals there. They must cater for the vegetarian diner if they are to keep us as regular customers and expand that menu a little. Balance the meals with some locally sourced veg! Service as always was very good.

When I queried this I was told I could have a side of veg which came as an extra. Too late. Why couldn’t I have been told when I ordered that it was only the meat. Looking at the menu it seemed all other dishes came with mash or chips. For £17 I do not consider this value for money. We have visited the Triton Inn regularly. In fact, it’s been our first choice of place to eat out and has been for the past 5 years! Unfortunately we arrived tonight to be faced with a new menu, but figured a change is sometimes good once we had explored the menu we chose scallops and mackerel starters and fillet steaks (medium rare) for our mains. The starters were presented nicely but very disappointing in flavour and over priced for what they were. The mains...terrible!! The fillet steak arrived well done...long gone is the nice presentation on a wooden board with cherry tomatoes on the vine, this was replaced by a standard salad tomato....attention to detail is required. We asked if there was a new chef and the young man who was front of house, very professional and apologetic, advised us it was a new chef, new menu and they also had a function in the adjacent room. Personally, I don’t feel this is excuseable. A place of previously such high standards should be able to provide for functions and the main restaurant if this is what they are offering. The old menu was much preferred, as was the quality of the food...in fact I would state the food on all previous visits has been exceptional and to a very high standard. The front of house staff, mainly the young man we dealt with, was very professional, pleasant and a credit to the triton Inn...he also discounted our bill (rightly so!)Personally I feel the management need to quickly grab back what they have lost and the new chef...well, if he can’t cook steak need I say more! Probably won’t be returning...such a shame for such an awesome, previously reputable restaurant.

We went out for a family meal earlier today to celebrate a 65th birthday. Generally the food was very good quality. We all enjoyed our starters and roast beef, although one of our party had a cold main course which took a very long time to come back when he asked for it to be warmed up. The desserts were also very good, but with all 3 courses the portions were small to average. I had 3 courses and left the restaurant thinking about what I would eat as soon as I got home (a 10 minute drive away). More veg was needed with the roast dinner. My dessert (parsnip cake) was the size of a domino. My daughter’s Eton mess consisted of a couple of strawberries, 3 small dollops of jam and a sprinkling of meringue on top. No cream or ice cream so very dry and disappointing. All of this would have been forgiven however, had the waitress been warm and welcoming. Unfortunately she was rude from the outset and didn’t crack a smile throughout our entire meal (which lasted 2.5 hours due to very slow service). I appreciate good things come to those who wait, but the wait was a bit too long and our waitress’ grumpy attitude really tainted our experience. The cheese board also needed more crackers! I would revisit but would urge the owners to sort out their customer service and increase their portion sizes.

Went last month with a group of eight, see Janbo25 review. The service was poor and the food moderate to poor. We ordered starters and mains. Two of us had the scallop(s) for starter. Previous reviewer said they only got two scallops for £9.50, but we only got one for £9.50, absolute rip off. At 9.15pm the mains were cleared away, they did not ask us about dessert, so at 9.30pm asked if we could order dessert and said the kitchen was closed. So 9.15pm on a Saturday they were closed, absolutely shocking service. I have delayed posting a review as I wanted to discuss the matter directly with the manager. I e mailed him/her about 2 weeks ago, and they have not bothered to reply at all so as well as poor service on the night poor follow up service afterwards too. Definitely will not go again. We had booked for a Saturday evening as a work celebration, it was an evening that had been planned for several weeks. Nearer the time we realised it was also Oktoberfest, therefore a member of the party contacted the restaurant to see if it would have any impact on our evening so we could change if necessary, we was advised it would not.Upon arriving the warning signs were there as different menus were given to the group, so obviously confused which was correct!Upon ordering we had an extremely long wait for the starters to arrive, when they did the parfait that a few of the group had ordered resembled more of a yoghurt consistency! Our mains then arrived, again 2 members of the party had to send their meals back as they were cold! I asked for condiments salt & pepper, which I would of imagined should already have been on the table, it didn’t arrive so sat waiting and had to ask again, to them be presented with salt and a bottle of sarsons vinegar!!!As our dishes were taken away we started to discuss desserts/coffees etc but was then just presented with a bill on our table!!!! When we asked about desserts we was told that the kitchen had now closed so wasn’t an option as had the bar so couldn’t get further drinks either!! We arrived at 7.30pm and so any delay was in their part in getting the meals out.The waitress explained how her and a colleague had been left to it that evening and we was one of a few tables to complain that evening and the manager wasn’t around as was at the Oktoberfest event. Some members of the group were regular visitors to the Triton, but we all left saying we wouldn’t be visiting again nor recommend to others.

Massively overcooked. We probably would've stayed for dessert but didn't want to wait too much longer. I've had good experiences here before and this was a slight let down. The Triton is within walking distance of our house. Not without it's flaws, it's a lovely, friendly pub, serving good quality food, filling a much needed gap between chain / run of the mill pub, and high quality restaurant. It's well worth a visit, even if you have to travel. I frequently stop there for a cheeky pint after a walk in the local hills, or on a bike ride with my daughter whom thoroughly enjoys the excellent climbing frame. This review relates to our latest visit for Sunday lunch. Plenty of car parking. On arrival, seen immediately by one of the waitresses, sat down at our table (pre-booked earlier in the day) and asked if we would like a drink within the first two minutes. So very good. Ordered house Shiraz, jug of tap water etc, soft drink for daughter. £8.50 for two glasses of decent red, served in high quality wine glasses, which I didn't think was too bad at all. Served promptly. Service I have to say, while efficient and with a smile, was on this occasion a bit distant. There was no 'how are you?', 'are you having a nice day' etc. The team are young and there is some lack of experience on show. They are not very attentive and you do, quite literally have to flag them down. Looking through previous reviews, this has been mentioned quite a lot of times and going back over a year from what I can see. There was a lot of time stood at the bar, backs to customers and it feel like they are in a rush to get back to that when taking your order. Too stress though, nothing particularly wrong with the service, it just feels like it could do with a bit more seniority and leadership in the mix. Ordered two Sunday lunches, asked for no Yorkshire on one - got Yorkshire pudding on both.. never mind. Food was excellent, great crunch on the Yorkshire, potatoes, meat and gravy all great - veg was lovely, although random - among a mix of carrots and savoy cabbage, I had one green bean! Bit bizarre. Ordered a desert, no spoon brought out with the children ice-cream. Our cheesecake was divine. Had to flag waitress down for the bill. Had to flag waitress down again to pay despite card being on the tray for a good 10 minutes.£50 for Sunday lunch, desert, wine and soft drinks for 2 adults and a child. It could be better, which is a tad frustrating for a local, but it knocks many of the alternatives in the area out of the park. Food is generally very good, service is generally pretty average but friendly and efficient, it's in a really nice settings and not stupidly priced. We left happy and well fed. We will be back.

Food tastes great and is instagram worthly, make sure you treat yourself to a gin cocktail special. Plenty of seats inside and out, good service and friendly staff.

I've written a couple of pretty scathing reviews about the Triton in the last couple of years because they really messed up which I don't like to do because I really like this place and really want it to succeed. I am pleased to say, in the interest of fairness, I can now say that many recent visits have shown that they have addressed the problems and both the food and service has been thoroughly excellent.Credit where it's due. I would now heartily recommend the Triton.

The Triton Inn was the venue for two very good friends of ours wedding. From the very start the staff were very accommodating, Friendly and helpful and went out of there way to help us. The Marquee and surrounding areas were finished to immaculate detail and the staff were coordinated regimentally. The food and drink were served in a manner of a five star hotel. The food was amazing and my only wish was that I could have more! Considering they had to cater for such a big wedding party the food was spot on, served piping hot and when we asked for more gravy and Vegetables it was brought over straight away. We would really like to know though what the secret is to your Yorkshire puddings! Please, please tell me how you make them! They were the best we’ve ever tasted. What an amazing place and experience thank you so much. Mark and Jill xx

So went yesterday lunch time Atlantic Cod Triple cooked chips minted crushed peas Hull patty (must be the smallest one in East Yorkshire what a joke!) for both of us, both disappointed. Chips well surprised if they were triple cooked (chef have look Helston Blumenthan recipe) they were slightly burnt outside soggy inside, fish tasted of nothing again batter slightly burnt, peas well very lacking in the minted taste, who thought crushed garden peas was a good idea over either mushy minted peas or just garden peas? Hull patty which noticed previous comment thought it was a fish patty, surprisingly because it is mashed potatoes marjoram and sage tasted of just potatoes but again no flavour. See Lion and Key Kingston -up-on Hull they will tell you how to do what you are trying to do do, it is not difficult! Best part was the Tartare sauce which was very good.

Have been to eat at the Triton many times but haven’t visited since last summer. We came as a large party of 5 couples plus children. The staff were so accommodating. The service was just excellent they couldn’t have been greater considering we had so many children with us, and were a rowdy bunch for Sunday lunch. All the waiting staff were brilliant ensuring we had drinks and that the water on the table was topped up. It was Sunday so many of us had Sunday lunch with either beef, chicken etc. I had beef and it was delicious and everyone’s plates were clean so that’s always a good sign. The children’s meals again were lovely, my son had chicken nuggets which I double checked with the waiter that it was chicken breast and not reformed rubbish, I tried a sample of my sons and it was lovely. The play area they have is such an excellent idea (I hadn’t noticed that last time I came) the children loved it. It’s brilliant that the adults can enjoy a glass of wine on the benches whilst the children play happily, and it’s big enough to accommodate a fair few children which is always good. They also played I the field opposite with the marquee, they loved running around. My only point is that they used to have a warm duck salad on the menu last year and I enjoyed that many times - please can you bring it back!!We will definitely be coming more often, if only we were a walk away!!

Called in today with 2 work colleagues and was greeted by Steve behind the Bar who was most helpful, friendly and polite. Informed us we could sit anywhere and so we found a nice table near the window and subsequently chose our food and drinks from the menu. There is a great choice of food available, including Sandwiches, Full Mains, Starters and Desserts and 2 of us opted for their Club Sandwich and my other Colleague opted for the Steak Sandwich. Steve was excellent, he remembered our orders without the need for pen and paper and the food was delivered in a timely manner and was hot and fresh - the way we like it. The Club Sandwich was delicious with plenty of Chicken and Bacon on and my Colleague devoured his Steak Sandwich without issue. When it came to clearing the table and settling the bill, Steve again was friendly and entered into so light hearted banter and it was so nice to deal with a young man with a good head on his shoulders. I whole heartedly recommend this place and also a BIG SHOUT OUT to Steve, what an asset he is to The Triton Inn.

Me and my daughter went for our tea a few weeks back and the food once again was delicious. Our starters fish cakes and belly pork with black pudding were very tasty and our mains - steak and belly pork (again) were both equally gorgeous my only reason for not giving 5 stars was the girl behind the bar - she was very loud and we heard every detail of her child’s birth even down to the cesarean !! which wasn’t really nice to hear whilst eating - food fantastic though and often visit here just need to keep chat like that toned down

We go here consistently, maybe once a month or every 6 weeks for a family treat. Usually lacking in flavour, but it's ok and local to us.

Just wanted a quick meal so popped to local takeaway. Great welcome and quick service but disappointing meal. Chicken with ginger and spring onions was a pile of chopped ordinary onions and huge chunks of ginger instead of fine slices and a few pieces of chicken. Ordinary fried rice was just rice mixed with loads of soy sauce, just a bowl of brown mess. Pancake roll was ok but no better than those available at Aldi. Not great.

We were staying in the area for a week and had a takeaway from Jack's. There was a good veggie choice on the menu, which included tofu / beancurd. The sauces were tasty. The main dish and rice portions were generous. Definitely recommend this place.

I never leave reviews but I had to leave one. I ordered a mixed starter for 2. Chicken chow mein. Beef satay some noodles., fried rice and chips. The starter was what I can only describe as poor. The prawn toast was really nice but the wonton looked as though it had been fried then refried 1 spring roll and 1 bbq rib which was drier than the Sahara desert. The rice was dry like it was yesterday's reheated, the noodles were rice noodles which were just watery. The chips must have been cooked the day before and just microwaved. Beef satay should be renamed beef vindaloo and the chow mein was dry. The only colour in the chow mein was the carrot which was raw. £40 wasted as most of it was inedible
