True Thai Cuisine in Edinburgh, City of

5 out of 5 for the food - we tried the massaman curry and noodle soup, and couldn't fault either. You should be aware the restaurant isn't licensed, so you need to bring any alcohol you want to drink (and I guess they charge corkage) - fine for us, as we don't drink, and there were soft drink options. The reason I've given this 4 out of 5 is because of the booking system - there's an online booking system, which indicates you're making an actual booking, but you get an automated email back saying that it's not a booking and the restaurant will confirm, which they didn't. We decided to turn up anyway at our requested time and there were spaces, but didn't get the impression they had our booking. Food was worth it though.

Booked a table online for 7 people and got confirmation via email to say it had been received by the restaurant. On arriving at the restaurant I mentioned my name for the booking and the time, and the server looked confused and then asked how many people it was for. She told me and my friend to wait while she set up the table. Not sure how their online booking system works but they hadn’t realised we were coming. Luckily the restaurant was empty so there was plenty room for us. We were given Thai prawn crackers while we chose our food from the menu. Cutlery was set up for half of the table by the server and then the other half had to set it up themselves. We laughed this off as we couldn’t see a reason for the server only doing half and then walking away. We ordered a mixture of dishes between us and found they all arrived at different times, so some had almost finished by the time other food arrived. We felt that there was perhaps only one chef so the food didn’t come out at the same time. My duck pad thai was tasty and came with a good amount of duck. However my roti was mostly burnt on one side, as was my friend’s one. My friend enjoyed her tom yum soup which was not too spicy but filling. The salads were very spicy! At the end of the meal we were given a bill which wasn’t ours. It was a receipt for a takeaway order where none of the dishes matched what we had. My friend went to complain and get the correct bill (which the server didn’t quite understand). We were eventually given the correct one with service charge added on. We did not receive an apology for the mix up from the server. We reluctantly paid the service charge added on though not believing the service received warranted as such. No COVID measures in place apart from mask wearing, however some of the kitchen staff came out of the kitchen clearly not wearing one. We wore our masks when not at the table but there was no signs or enforcement to do this.

Wish I had discovered this restaurant a long time ago as it was genuinely the best Thai meal I have had in Edinburgh. Ordered seabass, duck and prawns all dishes were flawless. Authentic flavours clearly cooked by people who grew up in Thailand. Owner and staff are really kind and attentive, will definitely be visiting many more times.

Made a takeaway order on their website, was told would be 20-30 minutes. After 40minutes passed I phoned to check progress. Communication was terrible. Couldn't get a sensible answer. Multiple calls later and still unsure why our food hadn't arrived. Eventually the food arrived after 1 hour 15 minutes, unfortunately the food needed to be microwaved as was lukewarm. I understand there are sometimes delays, but if this happens, please phone the customer to explain what's going on. The food did taste good on reheating, otherwise would have been 1 star.

We discovered this restaurant in lockdown when looking for a Thai in town. It did not disappoint. Delicious dishes and great service. We haven’t had a meal we haven’t enjoyed yet and keep going back. If you like Thai, then definitely worth a visit or a takeaway.

I was overcharged for my meal and was promised a follow-up about it but received no further communication. Pity, as the food was quite good.

Popped in after show at the Queens Hall. Service was very good,welcoming and quick. Starters were really good, Mrs E's Nasa Gorang could have done with a little more sauce but my Penang curry was lovely. Happy to recommend and would use again

10 of us visited the restaurant while at the Fringe.Nuch and Garry were so welcoming. It feels really authentically Thai, we were served promptly and the drinks were great quality.The food was amazing, all starters and mains were lovely, and they even gave us some tasters of other dishes on the menu.It was really reasonably priced and we can’t wait to go back!

Got take away. Produce used seemed low quality, Random veg slightly on the turn in my Red Curry. Which was tangy and not pleasant tasting. The Creamed coconut was separating in the sauce. Prawn Tempura was not tempura, but bread crumbs looked like it was pre bough frozen stuff. Coconut rice, no coconut flavour and really overcooked.

The food was delicious and the staff were extremely friendly. I'm a veggie and had the Pad Med Mamuang - very flavorsome & a good size portion. Side of veggies was also very good, fresh and non-greasy. We'll be back again very soon!!

We picked this place as it was near to our B&B.; The owner was extremely friendly, welcoming and seemed to know his stuff. The starters were excellent. He recommended a couple of mains, which we tried and liked (though the best main was the pad Thai, which we chose ourselves). 3 courses plus drinks for 4 cost ~£130, and we had more than enough to eat. Would go back. Only one small critique, they need to purchase a couple of high chairs for little ones!

Nice wee restaurant, Nice welcome. Lovely ambience and waiter very friendly. Small but good wine list. Starter platter for 2 very tasty. Had a bit of a mix up with our main courses, where we got the wrong rice delivered and had to wait for new ones but we got an extra dish prepared for us as an apology. All tasty food and good customer service.

We have only recently been going to this restraunt, usually go into city centre, food good, staff and owner great, the restraunt is small enough for cozy meal for two, but big enough for family outing ( which we have not done yet but certainly will be arranging for both large and small family outings)

My wife and I visited for dinner and were greeted warmly and shown to a table. The waitress was slow to bring the water i had asked for as i had been in the gym and needed a drink. However the order was taken and the red wine arrived which the waitress managed to spill on the table, not once but three times in all that evening. No "sorry" or even an attempt to wipe it up. The food is good, well prepared and presented and comes with plenty of vegatable - good for your 10 a day plans. So if you go I suggest you pour your own wine.

The restaurant is cosy and elegant and the service is very good. The menu offers many solutions even for vegetarians. What we ordered satisfied our expectations and definitely this is a place a recommend to go to have a nice Thai experience.

One of the worst Thai I’ve had in ages. Greasy and tasteless. None of the light, bright and fresh flavours you would expect from Thai food. More like crappy Chinese. And we spent £90!

A don't know where to start with this place cause everything they do is amazing from the moment you walk in the staff are welcoming you with smiles unlike some places. I have been to this restraunt god knows how many times but everytime is always better than the last they have a very wide selection of food to offer and if you fancy anything that isn't on the menu ask the staff they will cater to your needs they staff are amazing so freindly. Even sometimes when couldn't be botherd to leave the house for food (hungover) they have an amazing delivery service don't be shy to try this Thai restaurant you won't regret it. Thai night and heard alot of good things about true thia this place. Food was nothing less than magical. The service from nuek.. Gary and team were 100%. Hot clean food. Served hot with a smile and a happy all round vibe.. Trust me try this place

We ordered mixed starter for 2 (takeaway) and it was simply disgusting. The beef thing was like leather and inedible. The sua-mai was tasteless and over cooked.

Just had a very nice evening at True Thai restaurant in Edinburgh. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Food was superb, best Pad thai I've had in England. Fresh and clean tasting food all very reasonably priced. Nice atmosphere with great gentle background music, didn't stop nodding my head to the songs.

Second time we, a group of four friends, have eaten here. We all had different choices and all meals were wonderful. Beautifully cooked. Lovely subtle flavours. The service was excellent from the very friendly staff. Very reasonable priced. We'll definitely return.

It's been a few years since we went to this local Thai restaurant but we'll head back quickly. The food was delicious and plentiful. We ordered the mixed starters for two people at over £8 each which gave us a taste of different food - the fish cakes were delicious. We were full after the starter and should have shared a main course, if any at all. In the end we had to take home a doggy bag. A very special mention to our lovely and very attentive waitress, Som, who looked after us so well.

My partner and myself were down in Edinburgh for the night and had a look for recommended Thai restaurants as I had a huge craving for a Thai curry. We came across True Thai Cuisine and I’m so glad we did!! The food was gorgeous, we had panang chicken, a noodle dish and chicken satay skewers which all tasted so fresh and full of flavour, it was recommended that we try the sticky rice, it turned out to go brilliantly with the panang. Also have to give huge special thanks to Gary who went above and beyind to satisfy a pregnant ladies cravings...thank you so much True Thai Cuisune, we will definitely be looking you up again next time we are in Edinburgh!!

We have been eating here regularly for years and always enjoy the food and atmosphere. Had the most amazing birthday meal here last week. The food was deliciously authentic and portion sizes were very generous. The king prawn salad was perfectly spicy yet fresh and zingy and worth highlighting as a dish we wouldn’t normally order, but very glad we did. The owners went to great efforts to make my birthday special - they had organised a beautiful cake and really took special care of us. I highly recommend this lovely friendly restaurant for both excellent food and attentive service.

Been here before but this is the first review. My son and I ordered starters of veg spring rolls and veg tempura. I expected about 3 mini items on each plate with a large lotus flower. What we got were platefuls of food decorated with flower-shaped carrots. Nicely cooked and quite filling.

Had a dinner with friends at True Thai Cuisine. The restaurant had a relaxed atmosphere, it wasn't very full and the service was very attentive. Above all, the food was some of the best Thai food I've had in Edinburgh. In comparison to other places, it is not the cheapest of all, but completely worth it.

Visited on Friday with my sister and friend. We had a wonderful meal and the atmosphere was great. Food was lovely and the staff friendly and attentive. Was a great meal and will most definitely be back.

Went in for a dinner and never regretted it more. Hardly any good for selection unless you were given the ala carte menu which we were not even given the choice of having. Food was tasteless and chewy. I wasn’t even interested in entertaining a dessert. Safe to say I will never be back.

Went for anniversary and very disappointed - ordered glass of red wine each and were brought white, when eventually got red it was a great Rioja. Starter of tempura prawns were a bit boring, spare ribs were ok and chicken soup was delicious. Mains of stir fried ginger chicken was very tasty but very tough and sea bass was cold, dry but tasty. Most definitely not the best meal we have ever had. Also, we asked for the left over rice and chicken ( hardly eaten) take away and it never came. Were fed up so just left.

Service at the start wasn't the best as I was left standing at the door whilst a couple behind me where shown to their table first even though as I was being dealt with by the worker first. Apart from that, drinks service was slow, waited over 15mins from first being shown to my table for anyone to approach and ask if we wanted a drink. Sharing starter was good, main course although I'd asked for mild still had a bit of a kick to it but it didn't spoil the taste or flavour. Not sure id hurry back to this restaurant though.

We booked a table here as it was near a show we booked for after the meal. We were worried as we were really late due to another show over running but they kept our table which we really appreciated. It was fairly quiet but got busier later on. It is a good choice as it is tucked away from the main centre which is heaving during the festival.

This is our local Thai Restaurant and it is fabulous. The extensive menu is impressive. The drinks list is ok too. And the staff and owner are wonderful.

This is definitely True Thai! We have been to Thailand and love Thai food, so when we found this restaurant we were over the moon!!! The spices were perfect and they had perfect portions, an amazing wait staff, and so friendly. We loved it here and yes, it's truly Thai!!!

The only Thai meal I had in Edinburgh on this visit. I described it RICH in flavour and aroma. Authentic like on a stall in Thailand. The last dish I had is specially cooked to order which is not on menu called Namyaa. Very girly dish, no meat in it.

We eat here fairly often but tonight the food was delicious. I had Penang Duck and it was so tender. We both really enjoyed our meal. The service was great too. After our experience tonight I would highly recommend this lovely wee restaurant. The owner really cares that we enjoyed our meal.

Cozy little Thai restaurant on south side of Edinburgh, nice decor and friendly staff always smiling. Food is authentic and good choice of juices and wine . Well priced for Thai in Edinburgh a must try when in Edinburgh

Had an amazing meal here the other night, staff were attentive and polite, quickly seated and given drinks menu,after browsing the menu for a considerable time, as there was a lot of tempting dishes, settled on the mixed starter, all 5 choices were delicious and fresh tasting and the 4 dipping sauces added even further flavour, my main was a duck and pineapple dish in a rich red curry sauce, the sweetness of the pineapple and the perfect level of spice complimented the duck perfectly. Already looking forward to our next visit.

We had a really lovely meal there last night, everything was perfect. The food was delicious, staff warm and friendly, it’s been ages since we had Thai food, but it will not be long before we return. It’s so nice to have a little gem of a restaurant so near to where we live.

Visited here many years ago so was delighted to try out a Groupon deal for a Thai banquet for 2 with 30% off the menu price. It was excellent. The choice, quality and quantity of food along with the service was first class. The restaurant was busy, warm and added to the lovely atmosphere on a very cold December night. My only fault was we just couldn't eat everything on offer!!!

This was my 5th visit and my partners 9th visit, therefore, we clearly love this place. Unfortunately this time the service and food quality was not the usual high standard. This was our first visit where the owner was not present, maybe this had a lot to do with it.

In Edinburgh with friends we were looking for a restaurant near our Travelodge at Cameron Toll. We found the True Thai - made the reservation online and as it turned out, got the last table.

Highly recommend this place - great food, great service, and reasonable prices. Will definitely return. Also lots of choice for gluten free meals.

On a visit from Glasgow we tried this restaurant which had been recommended to us. Food excellent with a wide range to choose from, coconut rice is a must. The staff were very attentive and friendly with a nice calm atmosphere within the restaurant. We will be back.

The True Thai Cuisine restaurant was very quiet and caused the party a bit of concern as it was International Weekend and nearly all the restaurants were packed. We need not have worried as the quantity and quality of the food was excellent as was the service. We have eaten Thai food on previous visits to Edinburgh and this was as good as any we have experienced in the past.

True Thai Cuisine does what it says, and serves up great authentic fresh and aromatic Thai food that really is true Thai cuisine. Having lived in Thailand for several years i'm very picky and have high standards when it comes to Thai food, and especially around the authenticity of flavors and cooking styles. True Thai seems to hit the mark every time, whether eating in or take away, and whilst the menu isn't massive, this allows them to focus and cook the dishes they have on the menu extremely well. A few of my favourites are the Pad Kra Pao Moo (Pork with Thai Holy Basil), the Laab (Spicy Pork Salad) and the Som Tam Salad (Papaya Salad), the Pad Thai is pretty good too! Definitely recommended.

We went for lunch today and the food was stunning! Tom Yum soup with king prawns was delicious! Full of flavour with lots of fresh crunchy vegetables and the prawns were huge! I then had the chicken green curry which was equally tasty - again lots of fresh crunchy vegetables and lots of spicy sauce. The portions were huge and served piping hot from a very friendly waitress. A two course lunch is only £9.95 and is terrific value for money. We had a glass of wine each plus one coconut ice cream (only £1 extra!) and the bill was only £31 for the two of us. Look forward to my next visit!

We went for dinner on a Friday evening as we were looking for somewhere that would suit us and our 2 boys - 13 and 10. Had a delicious meal here. In our opinion the changes that have been made since it was Celadon are great. Food seemed a lot fresher and tastier with just the right level combination of thai flavours. I had quite a spicy monkfish dish but the spices were mostly at the side of the plate so I could add as required. Only downside for 10 year old was too many beansprouts in the pad thai. I'm sure in future we could just ask them to go easy on the b/sprouts though. Attentive service without being overbearing. Will definitely be back. Deserves to be busier.

We were out looking for somewhere local to have dinner and come up with True Thai Cuisine. It was a great find and glad to come!! The menu is varied and the food is lovely. We are deaf customers and the chef came to us and told us he is deaf and had lovely 5 minutes chat which was unreal.

We stumbled upon another of Edinburgh's restaurant gems while on a day out in town at the weekend. It was quite early to dine out for dinner, with it having just turned 5pm, but as we'd been out all day, we were pretty hungry.

Visited for the first time last night and will definitely be back Well cooked, quality ingredients resulted in empty plates all round. The portions are also very generous.

We visited a few other thai restaurants and this is definitely the most authentic one. I loved the fish cakes and the pad thai. The food is delicious and they even have a thai iced tea which I couldn't find anywhere else. Definitely worth it!

Wow! I love Thai food and have spent many years in Asia, giving me a taste for delicious Asian food. Up until now I've been disappointed with what's on offer in Scotland. Then.....I found the True Thai restaurant in Causewayside. There were four of us and we began with the mixed starters. A good selection including fish cakes, satay, spring rolls, prawns and some very tasty fried meat. I then had the tiger prawn panag and those prawns were huge! Absolutely delicious. Also ordered were the pud Thai noodles with pork, a sweet and sour chicken and a pork curry. We had sticky rice and roti to complete the meal. Everybody loved their meal, and the pork was very tender. The staff were really great, friendly and efficient. We were the last to leave and at no time did we feel rushed, in fact we were offered some cake as it was one of the waitresses birthday and that was superb. An altogether brilliant experience at a brilliant restuarant. We had starters and mains and 2 bottles of wine and sparkling water and our bill came to just over £100. Good sized portions and employ plates all round. Well done True Thai. I'm going to become a regular!

Having found this small restaurant by accident -- needing a lunch venue for six at a rush -- we've now returned several times, introducing as many new people as possible each time. The set menus for lunch were amazing value, and the evening menu is varied and has some of the best Thai I've tasted. (So far, #27 on the menu has amazed everyone... :-) One word of warning: "medium-hot" can mean "pretty hot"... The staff have been attentive and friendly, and the overall costs are reasonable.

Great food, good service. They even brought an extra rice when one of our main courses was slightly delayed.

Lovely authentic Thai dinner. Great service at a great price. Nice big portions with perfect carrot cutting. Would definitely recommend and will be coming back
