Travellers Rest in Gedling

Popped in yesterday for some food and drinks after myself, my sister and some family just visited our mum/nanna in the chapel of rest. There were three females, Staff were extremely rude and ignorant, ignored us multiple times and had no customer service at all. We ordered drinks but concluded that we didn’t want to eat there as we didn’t feel comfortable. We would have spent well over £150 but took our business elsewhere. Very disappointing to say the least.

You need better beer selection and your price on two drinks the same is £7.40 you charge £8.60

17Jan2025 revised review, thought we would give it another try as the food was good last time so much better Landlord was around all the time today and everything was spot on, seems to make a big difference. Previous review at New Year Very nice food, but was put off by a waitress who was constantly sniffing whilst taking the order and was surprised by the minimal choice of both vegetarian dishes and non alcoholic drinks available for a venue that has to be driven to. Was nice to have an open fire, but even so the building was still quite cold inside. Okay for a change but won't be rushing back.

Lovely friendly staff who found a table for our party on f seven. Beautiful food.

It is the best place for food and service is outstanding

Non gluten meals were barely warm served on cold plates… We were told we could have roast beef in the normal Sunday lunch but not on the gluten free menu We are also egg/cows milk free which excluded the Yorkshire pudding but this was still served despite we ask for it to be removed There was barely any cabbage in the plate The rib of beef served was barely warm again served on a cold plate The waitress had no idea what she was talking about… training is required to educate staff on ingredients and coping with allergies intolerances There was little left to choose from on the Sunday menu at 4:30pm We had visited previously and had a lovely lunch this time as a family it was a disappointing experience 😡

Perfect hospitality and great food for a nice quiet evening at our favourite local venue. Thanks for accommodating us so well.

Cannot thank all the staff enough for making christmas and my daughters birthday so special. Nothing was a problem and the food and service was excellent if I was able to give you a 10 star review I would. Thank you all

Went for Christmas dinner. Freezing cold inside. Dinner was only warm with dried out yorkshire puddings. Small portions of everything on main meal. Dessert however was very nice. Staff were friendly. Just very disappointed with christmas meal which was meagre for the price.

Outstanding! Our first Christmas in the uk for a long time and our expectations were high! Hannah went above and beyond ensuring all dietary requirements were met with ease, making me relax and enjoy our day. Hannah is a consummate host, always professional with the loveliest manner, she is personable & pays attention to every detail. Hannah genuinely cares. Special mention to our waitress on the day Scarlett, one of the best we’ve ever experienced - Scarlett was an absolute pleasure. I do hope Greene King appreciate their staff as these two really are incredible & deserve recognition. Thank you both for making our Christmas Day memorable for all the right reasons

Had a few meals there now and I can honestly say never had a bad meal yet with so much choice aswell,great atmosphere, and great service,they wont let you down

We went for a meal with family and really enjoyed our food.

Unimaginative pub grub. I had smothered chicken, I guess with a title like that I shouldn't have been surprised that it wasn't 'smothered', the small amount of sauce that was there was sickly sweet and probably out of a bottle. The salad was just rocket with a dollop of bottled dressing, I guess the chips weren't bad but no sauce, smothered or otherwise, to dip them in so very dry. Staff were pleasant but service was very slow. I doubt I'll be back.

Where do I start. Bad beer - Reverend James, over cooked steak (well done instead of rare)., dry chicken and tough gammon. Way below the anticipated standard. Very disapointed.

Sunday dinner menus are absolutely spot on we went yesterday and enjoyed a duo of meat, really nice food would highly recommend.

Really good food and friendly staff. Sat near door on a cold day with lots of people coming in. That's because its popular.

The food was lovely and reasonably priced and we loved the non alcoholic Christmas drinks!

Visiting this pub feels like visiting a friend. The atmosphere is warm and friendly, the staff are so accommodating and the food is delicious.

Absolutely lovely meal and impeccable service

As a strict vegan The menu says chips on side orders are V however they are fried in the same oil as the fish produce. Disappointed couldn't have much. Asked for bread came as big door stops and butter I couldn't spread but lady did take it away and obviously stuck it in a microwave...why not do that from the start?

Lovely place, very pleasant atmosphere

Wonderful and wide variety of dishes to choose from but loosen your belt on arrival or suffer the feeling of being stuffed before you have finished also the food that our table ordered was hot plentiful and great tasting. Highly recommended 👌

Dog friendly pub serving great food at reasonable prices.

Such a warm very friendly pub. The beer was amazing we had a perfect moretti and the level head is a great pint. The manager is so friendly. We will be definitely returning as the food looks amazing 🤩 P.s loved his great shirt 😍

The Travellers Rest is a bit further afield for us, but well worth the trip. The atmosphere of this rustic pub is cozy and welcoming, even when they are busy. Ive had two items so far from their menu and in both cases the food has been absolutely spot on...I've never had a Cumberland Sausage taste so good. When we visit next I'm looking forward to trying their pies.

Hannah was our amazing server and if I could give 10 stars, I most certainly would! We were a party of 16 work colleagues, celebrating a significant birthday and had booked for 5 November. From start to finish, the service was exemplary. Food was hot and delicious and nothing was too much trouble. In fact, Hannah went over and above to ensure the bill was split, according to what we'd each ordered and she very patiently and diligently took each payment which took an inordinate amount of time. In essence, a great time was had by all made that little bit more special by Hannah.

I always pop to the Travellers when I need a break from everything. The location is great...sheep and fields! The staff are really friendly. There's a great outside area (better in summer). Fabulous Sunday Lunch.

Sunday lunch, very expensive at nearly £19 each. Very small portion, two small pieces of beef that was dry, veg was Luke warm Yorkshire pud was cold. Told staff was told “sorry been busy today”🤷‍♂️ sent back wife’s wine and lemonade as lemonade was flat. Will not be returning.

Breakfast - my veggie Breakfast came out as a meat one, so had to wait for it to be redone, when it did, the scrambled egg was cold. I noted there was no apology at all, just an "oh right" Avocado on toast was very dry. It need butter, olive oil, or softer bread. English breakfast and drinks were nice. Next doors pancakes were hard so had to be redone, I'm guessing the first ones were reheated. I have been a few times before and really enjoyed it, so hoping this was just an unlucky day. Hope to return and it be back on form.

Food was top notch , service brilliant our waitress mia was very attentive with 2 children on another table that really elevated the atmosphere, her service was great with descriptions of the menu (fish pie was great)

A good night out with my Wife after a day out. Our waitress Holly was really attentive. Food was good as always.

Steak and ale pie was Devine , was served by 2 lovely ladies, 1was taking our order and the other was quite young bringing the food out , what a great pair , you can tell they enjoy working with each other whilst having a laugh but still providing excellent service ; what a great pair they make ! The food is a little on the expensive side but going to a restaurant u tend to splash the cash and the quality was great could do with a few extra chips just to fill the plate up though. Non the less it was great thank you. ( we didn’t catch their names but if the management see this; one lady had a short bob and the other dark hair very hardworking ladies )

This place actually gets better, or I get more fond of it.... Every time we try a spontaneous meal out and it goes astray, we pop back to The Travellers. The baked cheese to share is a superb starter. And don't forget to check the specials board.

We hadn't booked, but we were given a table straightaway at lunchtime. We didn't have to wait long for our food. There was plenty of choice and it was well cooked and tasty. There was plenty of room in the car park.

Booked a meal for my mother and nephew on Sunday 29.09024. Normally, the food that we have had on previous occasions has been lovely, unfortunately, on this occasion it was very poor. My mother had a fish pie which was watery and covered with hard mashed potato. It was served with a tiny portion of peas and hard sour dough bread. My nephew had a steak that was very tough, served with about 10 chips and half a tomato. He then had a blackcurrant tart desert, that had to be chopped up with a knife and fork as it was so hard. My mother did raise her concerns,which were met with a "sorry". I realise everywhere is busy and trying to cope with working with minimal staff and reduced stock in order to keep prices down, but this quality of food is NOT acceptable. Come on guys, your food used to be spot on, what's happened??????.

Very dissatisfied with visit today. Been here many times for Sunday roast and always been happy but was shocked by the big increase in price, £17,49 for roast pork dinner. Got 2 small slices of very fatty pork, the roast potatoes were tough as overbaked, could not cut them so so hard, veg were bland and not very warm. It seems price has increased but quality dropped, don't think will come again sadly.

Staff were friendly and helpful - no salads on the menu which was disappointing, so found little choice for my diet. The food I had was very nice.

Got told 15mins for a table for two 1hr later we had to remind dear Richard that we are still waiting only to see 6 people eating food that had walked in after we had arrived ! Feel like just walking out as food still not here so can't even say how good bad or average it is ! Pretty poor Service so far !

Eat out every Sunday and probably the worst meal I have had in a long time Not the cheapest so you expect a decent standard of produce? . I had roast beef which was 2 tiny dried up pieces of overcooked cheap beef. My partner had a tiny portion of pork which was shrivelled and burnt.The girl serving us asked if everything was okay and we said no and she offered to change the meat. I didn’t see the point as if beef quality is poor it’s not going to get any better . My partner changed his pork and the new offering was worse?? The veg was a tiny portion of carrot and swede mashed up( probably frozen) and a leek thrown on top?? Food was lukewarm. Asked the couple beside us what they thought and said it was very poor quality. Have been a couple of times before and food was always lukewarm but at least it tasted good.

Sadly it would seem the host has some prejudice towards anyone without their nose in the air. A clear shift in persona when talking to others dining. A friendly chatty manner to someone who wouldn’t look up from their tablet to make eye contact with anyone who appears to be “middle classed.” Shame about the discrimination, Food was nice however.

My parents and I met up here for a dinner together. There was plenty of out door seating but we decided to eat in because of the weather. The food arrived quickly and was well cooked and presented nicely. The only thing negative about our visit, is that it could do with a good clean through of cobwebs around the seating areas. Although spiders can weave webs in less than a day, the dust on the webs shows they've been there for sometime!

Hannah and Kiera sorting us out with table, food and drinks. Love their smiles and energy. Any issues were quickly sorted, all absolutely fine. Really busy restaurant, but everyone looked after very professionally.

Visited for the first time this evening. Food was amazing, definitely recommend the lamb shank shepherd's pie! We was served by Hannah who was so attentive and friendly! Lovely atmosphere, 100% recommend!

Very professionally cared for by our host Layla. It’s many years since we were last here but we shall be back with friends. The food could not be faulted.

Popped in for late lunch on a Sunday. It is a nice environment with a decent choice of food and drink. This was really let down by the standard of the roast beef Sunday dinner, it was poor. The beef was dry and grey, and the portion was really small. For two of us to have two rounds of drinks and two main courses at £75, it did not feel good value (my wife however was very happy with her vegetarian Sunday roast).

One of my all time favourite places to come for a meal! Out the way and super chilled out!

Absolutely love this place.. the food, staff, ambiance.. lovely.

Been coming here for 40+ years, so have seen its various incarnations. It's remained a favourite throughout the decades. Only ever had one disappointing experience & management swiftly dealt with this. We visit, several times a year, with various friends, (& dog, whose photo is near the bar, with other canine regulars) family, or just the 2 of us. We will visit again soon.

Excellent food! Staff went above and beyond to get us an unbooked table at a busy time. Nice venue.

Myself and my partner both had food poisoning after eating the calamari, I informed the manager to which I was advised I got it from somewhere else.

I had the mixed grill, not impressed. The chicken breast was minuscule, gone in three bites and a dozen chips. The steak and gammon did have a decent grilled taste. Overall it looked sparse on the plate. My companion had the chicken and bacon sandwich which was dry and again was thin on chicken and even less bacon. I wish I had taken a picture

Had Sunday lunch 11/08/24 staff very good, Sunday roast absolutely the worst I have ever had.Had lamb belly 4 of the tiniest bits of lamb needed a magnifine glass to see them, need to go and see how other places who do the Sunday lunch far better than the travellers rest.

Pleasant location but £13.70 for 1 pint a fruit shoot and an orange and lemonade #really.

Atmosphere very quiet due to time of the day tbh, pleasant girl served me my wife to be and son/ girlfriend, food was ok but their pie looked lovely and left half it was that big. Lovely place to go will continue to do so.

Layla served us and was so friendly, polite, accomodating and had 10/10 customer service. Very speedy and efficient!

I came on 19th July. Food was very poor. Steak was full of grisle. Staff were in different to customers, more interested in chatting to colleagues than paying attention to customers.in particular I was upset how staff were with an elderly couple who had been given a voucher and were stressing how to use it. They failed yo explain to them other than say give it to me at the end. We had to help tehm as a result. It was extremely bad service but more so to those two elderly people who needed assistance, one having lost their sight. Poor food, poor service means I won't be returning. This pub used to have a good reputation but not now!

Very poor service, just not interested. Had to help an old couple next to us because staff were disinterested. Asked for water, never arrived. Food sub standard, fish skin limp and soggy, steak full of gristle. Squid limp and rubbery. We will not be back !

Such a lovely place for a meal. We keep coming back because the food is tasty, and the staff are excellent. It’s a really lovely place for a meal. Can’t fault it.

At almost £6.50 per pint, us and many other regulars have stopped visiting here as often. There are plenty of other pubs nearby with equally nice atmospheres that don’t want to rip off their clientele.

Love coming here. Staff are friendly and accommodating - and very importantly are dog friendly! Food is reasonably priced and good value

Only nipped in for a couple of drinks, nice place, Set in a beautiful location, didn't try the food, but nice to sit and relax on a glorious day.

The food was gorgeous. And good for the price. There was a good selection of drinks. James, our server, was lovely and checked we enjoyed our food and was attentive to every table around us too.

Poor customer service. Poor food quality.

Have had many fab meals here but were disappointed last night . I made the booking and had conformation text on my mobile ,but they had nt got us down . Was made to feel that it was our mistake ,which it most certainly was not . I ve made bookings this way many times. Service was not as good as previously ,they are usually friendly and cheerful . But this seemed lacking last night . We have been coming here for many years .

Took my visitors there for lunch, they just loved it as ive always done. Excellent friendly staff, lovely enjoyable meal, will be certainly visiting Travellers Reast again.

Brilliant service by Olivia! Food was good. Well worth a visit. 2024- Updated menu, not worth the prices. Extortionate and to make up your meal you have to buy the sides on top.

Lovely local, with friendly staff and nice food. My one issue is that they allow dogs into the pub where people are eating. Whilst they have a restaurant, the over flow of customers eat the the pub area which often includes a number of dogs. This can be off putting and in my opinion not very hygienic.

Have been to the Travellers Rest on many occasions and always loved both the food and the atmosphere. However, on my last visit (6 of us) the service was very poor and we had to wait almost an hour for the food. Also had to request the dessert menu on several occasions, then to top it all, was given the wrong bill!! Felt like the waitres was just not interested. I wrote complaining well over two weeks ago but not had a reply or even an acknowledgement from Travellers, so extremely disappointed to be honest.
