Lovely meal at a reasonable price good pub grub

If you want something special, then look no further. As this place will tick all the boxes. With its friendly staff. Fantastic food and great selection of drinks, be it alcoholic or a nice soft drink. Nice decor and lots of seating. With a massive car park outside with scenic views of there private land, which is grassed. This place is great. I highly recommend this place for any occasion.

Friendly staff.Visited with friends several times. Best Lasagne ever Steak & Ale Pie delicious Excellent value, good portions. Excellent service even spoke with Chef to compliment him .

A lovely pub on the outskirts of Ravenshead and on the edge of lovely countryside with a great outside area for walkers and dogs. The waiter on duty in the restaurant was welcoming, polite and attentive. The food was delicious!!! The squid starter was the best I'd had in a long time. The pub and restaurant was clean, well kept and, despite being quiet (it was a Monday evening) had a lovely atmosphere. We will most definitely be returning and highly recommend a visit

Great service from the lady seating everyone on arrival which was during a busy Saturday lunchtime with 2 large tables for Birthday parties and a lots of other customers wanting to eat before the Woodland Disco Festival at Newstead Abbey. We were seated quite quickly and although there was a half hour wait on food it really wasn’t that long. The Butternut squash salad was delicious as was the HUGE Portion of Fresh Fish and chips.

Service a little lacking. Food overpriced - 16.95 for a spicy chicken burger & chips. No side salad either 😞

Very nice place with a nice relaxing atmosphere. Great service and friendly staff. I had the Tie style fish cakes starter and the pan fried salmon main. Every bit of it was lovely and delicious. I especially liked the fish cakes. And the tiramisu was beautiful. I will definitely be going back again.

I have been coming to The Little John pub and restaurant occasionally for a few years now, more regularly recently, and have enjoyed Christmas meals, Sunday lunches, evening meals and thd quiz at this very lovely pub. The staff are always friendly and welcoming and the food is great quality. I will be back for the Monday quiz soon.

Lovely local with very welcoming friendly staff members. The food is delicious and the management take the time to chat to you and make sure everything is ok. Came with a large group on Christmas eve and nothing was too much trouble. And again with my inlaws when they were over.

A fab place to generally be Wow, we went as a group for Sunday Lunch and I have to say its one of the best I have had locally for a long time. One of our group had an allergy and that was catered for. The gravy was perfect. Its so hard to get a decent Sunday Lunch. Well done we will be back

Sadly this was the worst pub we ate at on our UK trip. The whole family felt sick afterwards. Chicken was dry, the fish dish was overcooked. The waiter was a friendly guy - that's why two stars. We wouldn't recommend it and we wouldn't return

I used to manage the quiz night at the Little John on a Tuesday evening and we built a good number of teams who enjoyed playing. However pub management decided to change to. a Monday evening, which is their prerogative, and this decision did not go down well with the quiz regulars , to the point we only had four teams this evening.. We also run a card game called Sticky 13, which had a jackpot of £320 and tonight they would not let us play this card game. Why I do not know, we were allowed to do the quiz but not Sticky 13. As custodian of the quiz I asked them for the Jackpot monies and they refused to hand this over. I was stunned to say the least, the monies belong to the quiz players who contributed into it. The monies certainly doesn’t belong to the Little John as this was only a venue used by myself to hold the quiz. They know this and until they refund the jackpot cash I will look to take this further. Decided to switch up where I meet friends for food and a catch-up. I'm certainly glad we decided to try this place. Great selection of starters and mains. The food was very well presented and tasted great. Lots of dishes you won't find on a typical pub menu and great for trying something new or different. Hopefully by the time you read this, Google will have updated the map location. Currently, it takes you about half a mile down the road. I'll certainly be visiting again, hopefully taking my partner out for something to try. Very relaxed atmosphere, and for us, it was perfectly balanced of not being too busy or too quiet.

I've been here a couple of times and have always enjoyed the food! Customer service has been better on some days than others. But overall, pleasant staff. Gluten Free options on the main menu could do with some tweeking, more options available on lunchtime specials than the actual main menu.

Visited last night for an event & was so impressed with the quality of food & the wonderful service we received. We will definitely be returning as other people sat near us raved about the Sunday lunches. Well I was shocked, last time we came everything was excellent. But yesterday myself, wife, & our 2 children came to celebrate my birthday. It was Disgusting, my wife and I had The meat pie. Horrible. Our children's chicken curry and rice. Was curry sauce in a separate jug, rice on the plate. Alongside which you could tell from the flat shaped chicken. It was What looked like Turkey Dinosaurs. Never ever would I think of going back there again.

Absolutely beautiful.... ❤️ A lovely pub in the middle of the beautiful countryside with a great area for walkers and dogs. The Staff were welcoming, polite and couldn't do enough for you. The Food was delicious!!! Oh my goodness, I feel like it's so hard now days to find a fresh homemade roast dinner, safe to say I KNOW we have found one. The pub was clean, well kept and had a lovely atmosphere. We would most definitely be returning and highly recommend a visit.

Perfectly situated for a good walk, so much countryside around even though it’s on a busy main road. Plenty of outdoor seating and area for you to exercise your dog. Nice and spacious inside very clean, nice decor, well laid out, the tables aren’t on top of each other. Clean, bright and airy ladies room. Friendly staff, make you feel welcome straight away, great service, food top notch, so filling and nicely presented. I didn’t take a pic of the soup or the cheesecake, but both were delicious; the Gammon was a good size and home made chips 👍; the tomato and courgette lasagne was delicious and very filling, served with garlic bread. Little John Inn, definitely worth a visit 👍

just eaten a steak at little John Ravenshead I ordered well done steak it arrived raw so I sent it back they served me with a fresh steak which was also raw so I ended up paying for a meal I could not unacceptable

We popped in for lunch today after a walk, lovely welcome and service throughout from Tracey. Lunch menu was adequate and reasonably priced. Food was lovely. 😊

Well on arrival my wife and I went and ordered 2 tea's and went and sat in the Snug before we had our lunch. Relaxing in the big chairs. Absolutely lovely energetic staff always on hand to help. It's a big pub with a Bar, Snug, Reception, and a Restaurant. And the Bar and Snug are dog friendly. Lovely garden with several areas undercover. And a big car park It certainly looks and feels like the place to be in the area, cannot fault it

NOT GREAT, firstly waited almost 5 minutes to be seen to after entering, no members of staff to be seen. Booked via email and received confirmation back of booking to be told that we have no booking? Seated at a table, menus issued, completely different menu to the website and Facebook page. Meal was not as described on the menu. No follow up check into the meal. When asked was everything ok during the collection of the plates we informed the waiter, just a mumble of sorry, no questions asked why?? Disappointed

Kids meals, where very good value 👌 Lunch time menu is good value 😋 just a bit dispointing when a menu says seasonal vegetables served with your meal and you just get peas and to be charged for a full price side portion of fries in place of the salad on the lasagne is a bit bad( maybe just an up charge so half the price) my wife had pie and chips, the chips had a strange taste to them(not there fault prob just the type of potato, not what they had been cooked in) also her meat in the pie was tough (i tried it),however my pie was delicous. My own overall experience was good I would happily visit again.

We came when the pub had recently been taken over by new management and had an excellent meal. We came back on boxing day with the same expectation but unfortunately feel the quality of food has gone down. We were given the main menu and not the Christmas menu as we were told on booking, but just picked from main as assumed things had changed. The table next to us then were given food from the Christmas menu?! Burger served without onion rings and salad, mentioned to staff when asked if everything okay and nothing done, no apology or reflection on the bill. Was told they have a new chef on and he must have forgot... Paid our bill as we are not people to kick up a fuss but feel the situation could have been dealt with better. Hopefully will return in the future and have better experience.

Servers were trying their hardest very good effort, place was nice and the environment was good. Issue was the drunk middle class locals hitting on my wife at the bar, grabbing her arm whilst trying to pay for our meal, people bringing their dogs to my 14 month old son even though he was clearly upset and didn’t want to touch or play with the animal and the hysterical very drunk, obnoxiously loud and the rude people in there, which sadly, respectfully, means I won’t return. Nice meal but £17 for new potatoes and a piece of sea bass to have to share my peas between three meals was overpriced.

There was a bit of a wait on food but it was OK but there was not busy as what I could see as to the reason for the delay in ordering it and it getting g to the table it would appear there was only one person as to whom was taken orders and serving and waiting on the tables at the time a bit much for one person to deal with I think

Really poor Xmas day meal. Food average. Table badly placed next to toilet and room cramped I was almost knocked out of my seat by a lady making her way past me. The service was poor and rushed. Quite honestly, we will never go there again. My wife wrote to them privately and never received a reply

Was such a lovely place to eat and visit under the new management but sadly quality & service has dropped significantly.

Atrocious service! Shocking food. Where do i start? 25 people for xmas dinner…. 2k spent by the whole party. They made a mess of the timings by 1 hour at least. The tables were cramped, we were shoved in like animals. The service was also awful. They served food with missing items i.e. no sauces on the table (mint/apple sauce/cranberry) with our dinner and the plates of undercooked leeks were late. We were missing Yorkshires and apparently they don't serve these with the turkey, but the menu states beef or turkey with all the trimmings. Additionally the tables were left with glasses on all night long. We were also missing items such as petit fours and the mince pies were out of a packet would you believe, the cheapest ones. Would you expect this for 80pp(adult)? Tea & coffee was served with no tea spoons and saucers, we used knifes to remove the tea bag and mix the sugar. The roast potatoes tasted stale and old, they were awful as was the quality of the potato's used. The rude lady serving us couldn't muster an apology all night, they were just happy to take our money. There was also no butter with bread for starter, such as soup. The menu stated roast beef and horse radish yorkshire for appetisers, but it was minced beef! Shocking robbing liars! The place was over crowded and maybe a few did enjoy it but most didn’t. Maybe they are under staffed it seems or alternatively just poor management. I would never go here again and wouldn’t recommend, it was truly shocking. Its also worth noting that the table was booked for 4pm and we arrived at 3.20, we had our dinner at 5.40(main) and left at 7.30 due to delays between meals and the 1st failed attempt at seating us, which further indicates towards bad management. It did ruin the Christmas dinner for most and I hope someone decent takes over and the head chef needs sacking along with a review of the management of waiters/staff. In response to the comments below, the 5 Yorkshires you bought out were inedible, cold and cremated. Serving butter with the bread for the soup is basics, you would find this in restaurants serving a higher quality food then your selves, as for the mention of a school canteen your toilets mirror that of a public toilet in a council park, you should maybe self reflect first.

Booked for Christmas dinner 2023, we arrived and had a drink before being shown to our table. All of the staff were amazing, nothing was too much trouble. Food, delicious and plentiful and the homemade desserts amazing. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be back - thank you

The Little John is our local and we went yesterday to have our Christmas meal. There was 9 of us altogether. It was a lovely atmosphere and the staff were brilliant as always. All courses of our meal were hot, fresh and plentiful. You took the stress out of my day as I wasn’t cooking and had a year off 😀 Thank you, you were all fab and I will definitely recommend to all my friends and family 🎄

The place is stunning, old country style pub with a beautiful wood fire place. The staff are incredible and polite, the parking at the side was great but slipper as would be expected with snow.

Had a lovely meal here today. It was the lunch special menu we ordered from. The onion soup was amazing. Good portion size too. The lady who served us was lovely too. Thankyou.

Meal out for husbands birthday with daughter and partner plus dog. Had two fish and chips and two lasagne. All meals very tasty and filling. Dog had sausage and devoured it.

40th birthday celebration booked for 7.00 for 12 people. Pre-orders given. At 7.40 we were informed the food would be 20 more minutes so we would have been waiting an hour! We had 3 and 10 year olds in our party so we said this wasn't acceptable (plus 2 babies). We had booked early and pre-ordered food why was it not ready? More drinks were ordered. The 3 year old's food then arrived. Half an hour later the rest did! The pre-orders were incorrect- food missing, rubbish portions for the price and the chips finally came when the mains were finished. Shameful for a restaurant. Regarding drinks- they just kept forgetting to bring them! We asked and asked, even water was hard to get and came minus a glass! At about half 8 live music started in the adjacent bar it was so loud we couldn't hear ourselves speak. Why not shut the bar doors?? We spoke to the chap serving to ask for our drinks and the girl 3/4 times. They were both clearly harassed. The restaurant was full with only 3 people serving. No wonder they were harassed. The chap agreed to remove the cost of all drinks from our bill but what what was meant to be a lovely celebratory meal for our daughter was ruined by shoddy, over priced food, poor service (although the guy was very nice and we did feel for him) and loud noise. Having been here at a lunch time this experience was the polar opposite. Do not take bookings if you do not have the staff to serve. Seems you also need more kitchen staff.

This was our second time visiting the Little John Inn. The food was EXCEPTIONAL and portions sizes impressive! The desserts are to die for as well! Friendly service, good ambiance and really good value for money. We will most definitely be back.

Visited Little John for Sunday lunch with family. The general consensus was that the food was ok but the gravy was watery, and the vegetables were undercooked (raw carrots). Also the desserts were overpriced and the cornflake tart in particular was disappointing.

Lovely atmosphere. Staff were so friendly. Service was spot on. My veggie salad was amazing. Huge. Couldn't finish it, it was a big bowl.

Our waitress, however the food was un rateable the fish and chip (4 meals)was questionable, we complained and even returned meals because the batter, peas and chips were uncooked No discount was given even though the waitress clear saw that the food was not cooked properly, she did however said sorry. So sorry we will not be returning.

What a lovely pub ! A very warm welcome as soon as we entered. The pub was full and there was a good atmosphere, probably the fact it was a theme night plus a meal.i didn’t know what to expect but Miss Sparkle, Kirsty, a Psychic Medium, was very good, entertaining and really very funny.. Some had the traditional fish and chunky chips the fish was big with lovely crispy batter , we went for the steak pie, plus chips and peas, well the chef certainly knows how to make a good pie! Shortcrust pastry plenty of chunks of steak in a rich gravy. It was delicious.. and looking at the empty plates everyone thought the same! I felt to full for pud, but the usual “we’ll have a look” and then we ended up with a selection between us , of Apple sultana and cinnamon crumble , Lemon posset, a delicious Bakewell tart and a sticky toffee pudding , plus custard and ice cream !! All got the thumbs up. It all arrived very quickly and the staff were very attentive to say they were so busy . It was such a good night and when she’s there next time , go you won’t be disappointed..! 👍❤️👍

Popped in for a drink last Friday,wow what a difference (and not for the better) This place used to be buzzing pre covid,it was very quiet,just a few foul mouth men,and didn’t look many in restaurant. The interior has changed,it used to be beautiful,quirky and clean,now it’s got horrible blue doors,the separate areas with sofas and general warm comfort feel has gone ,looks more like a showroom for home bargains,and it doesn’t come across as clean and very well looked after,half the car park is now a seating area,not sure why anyone would want to sit in the carpark when there is all the grassy areas ,such a shame,food on some trip advisor pictures looks horrendous 🤮 The owners keep blaming kitchen team for poor food ,if it’s that bad in your kitchen get in there yourself,it’s your business for god sake,really has gone downhill fast,like I said earlier much better when Simon and Louise had this pub👍

Shocking service!! & Came away feeling disgusted. Big table of 16x of us took a while for them all to come out, first person had finished before last one got theirs... we had pre ordered too!! Sunday dinner was just OK... hardly any vegetables . .. 3 measly carrots and spoonful of cabbage, stuffing was missing then they brought us out cold stuffing. We had a few other issues too. Explained problems to lady at front of house just to let them know...who said don't worry "we will sort your desserts out for you" I thought oh nice of them.. told everyone they was offering free puddings to make up for it all. About 10x of us had puddings. To then receive the bill and she's given us 1x for free the cheapest. Wow surely this was an error I thought. Said to lady this is surely wrong as my understanding was "we will sort out your puddings" means free puddings. Anyway she made me feel absolutely disgusted by arguing with me in front of everyone over the puddings. I said she should of been clearer at the start then and said 1x free pudding (Which would of been an insult)- her fault not mine. We had 4x puddings as takeaway and these were taken back!! I dont think she was aware 1x of the takeaway puddings had been touched. In the end after me explaining she should of been more clearer at the start of our conversation. I said I wasn't paying for the puddings going by what she said we will sort your puddings put for you ... she then came back and said the chef said he would take the puddings off the bills... too right! You said we will sort your puddings out. AFTER ALL THIS COMOTION. & taking back the takeaway puddings!! Which was the cherry on the cake - shocked is an understatement. Absolutely disgusting behaviour from her and will never step foot in this pub again. Sorry its long! But felt like you all needed to hear the full story if you have issues in future I just hope the lady is now CLEAR with what she says!!.

Very unhappy with this place we preorderd all our meals so it should be eazy after a hour they started to arrive over a 30 minute period, some had finished as others were coming out meals was lukewarm at best and the cold soul had a stale crust, surly things don't have to be this bad, good luck people

Wow! Just had my birthday meal there and it was gorgeous, the service is second to none. I had chicken and chorizo linguine it was beautiful I felt really guilty for leaving some, the meal was huge well worth the price. No complaints whatsoever

Food not arrived together - two of our party had finished their mains before others arrived. We had the Sunday roast. Not at all impressed. Luke warm, anaemic food. Gravy thin and watered down. Vegetables were very poor -overcooked,tastless. Carrots and cabbage only -didn't quite live up to the expected "seasonal vegetables " as stated on the menu. Staff were friendly, but not at all efficient. It took over an hour for first course to be delivered, and another hour after that for desserts. Desserts were very good. The pub itself is very pleasant, but needs a lot of work on service and quality of food. At over £15 for a roast dinner,they need to seriously up their game to make it value for money.

Definitely a lot better this time around. Our last visit wasn't so good but this time a lot, lot better. The staff as always are super friendly and welcoming, a true credit to the establishment. The Little John Inn is out favourite choice for our group meal. The food was superb, a while arriving at the table, but I don't mind that as they were busy and the food was really tasty, my wife and I had the belly pork, which was cooked perfectly and the portion size was good too and very hot at the table. If I have one criticism it would be that I would like to see a little more on the sweet menu, Eaton Mess and Crème Brulee would be a good addition, that said the sweets we all had were enjoyed. Will we go again? Yes we will, not just because it is central to our needs but because it is a good place to visit, eat and drink.

Visited for Sunday lunch . I had the haddock and mash with parsley sauce . It was delicious and just the right amount for a lunch time menu. The parsley sauce looked more like a dill sauce but was delicious nonetheless. Some of my family had the Sunday roasts which looked and smelt amazing , they were quite substantial and the Yorkshire's were as big as my one year old nieces head , she approved 😂 my daughter had a burger which was a good sized meal , chips were perfect, burger well cooked , bun was a little over toasted for her liking . Would definitely visit again . Staff service was very good

This is a village pub, not a hotel. On this Sunday afternoon, the restaurant was comfortably busy but not overcrowded. The seven of us (27-70) had five different mains between us. All were excellent, as was the service and the beer. Whats not to love?!?

Hi I just wanted to leave a review from Sunday 13th august, I phoned up on the off chance your place could get us in knowing it was a Sunday, the lady on the phone was very polite and accommodating, and managed to squeeze all of us in (7) now the food we all had something different but wow it was amazing and delicious, the toad in the hole was just fab, the little John burger again was truly awesome, we had American family with us and they thoroughly enjoyed there meals too and even tried the Yorkshire pudding !! Thank you for your hospitality and gorgeous food will be returning as soon as possible Cally

Just had a fabulous birthday dinner at the Little John. Such prompt service and delicious food. The new management have done wonders with the pub. I highly recommend 👌

Been here several times past, truth be told, it's never really disappointed! On this occasion my good lady had the 'seabass' dish off the menu... which she said was cooked to perfection, while I opted for a classic 'toad in the hole' with mash and fresh veg, complimented with a fair priced bottle of Savi which we finished 😊 then followed with a crumble which we happily shared. Our overall experience was very good and the two ladies - one been the FOH/bar and the mgr... all very pleasing Thank you guys, keep up the good work.
