Trattoria Italiana in Rother

An excellent lunch at Trattoria Italiana served by very friendly, helpful staff. I had a Calzone pizza and my wife had pasta with bolognaise sauce. Both were well presented and very tasty. My wife is Gluten Free but this did not cause any problems as there is a separate Gluten Free menu. Can certainly recommend to anyone looking for somewhere good to eat in Bexhill. However, it was very busy on the day we went so it may be advisable to book a table in advance.

There were 16 of us on Easter Sunday and the staff and food were all brilliant. They even had a gluten free menu which was a nice surprise. My homemade ravioli was really delicious and perfectly comforting and creamy. Everyone else liked their food including some really fussy people! The service was brilliant, thank you for looking after us so well!

We have been visiting this restaurant on and off for close to 20 years. We are treated like family, even if its been a couple of years since our last visit. The food was as excellent, as always. The staff are friendly, attentive, thoughtful and helped us have a truly memorable evening, whilst never being intrusive- an impressive feat. Stand out plates , from all round superb dishes,were the zucchini- always a winner and some insanely tender and delicious lamb. We really could not have had a lovelier night. Thank you to all!!

We first visited this restaurant back on New Year’s Day. Which left us utterly disappointed and questioning our decision to return. Despite our anticipation for a delightful New Year’s Day meal out, our experience was unprofessional from the start. Upon arrival, we were greeted with dirty glasses and cutlery—a foreboding sign of what was to come. Despite reporting this to the owner, our concerns were dismissed and blatantly ignored, leaving us feeling disrespected and undervalued as customers. Against our better judgment, we decided to give the restaurant another chance, hoping our initial experience was just an unfortunate anomaly. However, our optimism was quickly shattered when my partner discovered a metal staple in his main course. This unacceptable oversight not only compromised the quality and safety of the dish but also left us deeply concerned about the restaurant's hygiene standards. To add insult to injury, the response from the staff was lackluster at best. Instead of offering any meaningful apology or complimentary drink for the appalling experience, we were met with a "sorry about that." Before we even had the chance to take photos to report to environmental health, the waiter quickly took the staple off us! This token gesture did little to rectify the situation or restore our trust in the establishment. Regrettably, we have concluded that Trattoria Italiana does not prioritize customer satisfaction or basic hygiene standards. Despite the recommendations of friends, we have decided not to give this establishment another chance. Our dining experiences should be enjoyable and memorable for the right reasons, and unfortunately, this restaurant failed to meet even the most basic expectations. In conclusion, we cannot in good conscience recommend this restaurant to others, and we will not be returning.

Had been recommended this restaurant by our Air bnb host. From the outside we weren’t too sure but decided still to try it. Thank goodness we did, what a lovely evening meal we had, serviced by such friendly and efficient staff. I love veal in lemon sauce which isn’t on the menu but was told we have veal and lemons so of course you can have it. Definitely eat here.

We come from Eastbourne regularly to have lunch here. The food is always good, I had the special blackboard King prawns with garlic Mayo, they were gorgeous...hubby had asparagus, the Penne Amatriciana is my usual go to favourite, and ravioli with spinach and ricotta was husbands dish. All lovely food, and the staff always friendly and welcoming, we enjoy everything this restaurant has to offer. That's why we're regulars. We love it.

4 family members for a birthday dinner. Amazing service, food and drinks. Started with a lovely welcome and shown to a table. Drinks ordered and brought straight over. Shared starters on their 3 for £13.50 followed by 4 superb mains. You can tell as soon as they arrived that everything was fresh and lovingly home made, the smell appearance and taste was out of this world. Never have I had a bad meal here. The staff are incredible, they are so wonderful and truly hands on with their elderly infirm customers. It was quite emotional observing their care. Perfect service, always a full, but relaxed and truly welcoming restaurant.

Good location, great atmosphere, really excellent food and friendly helpful staff. I'd advise taking some cash along as you can't put a service charge on the bill when paying by card. The staff definitely earn it and I was disappointed that I had no cash with me, the waitress who served us was very understanding and told us not to worry, which almost made it worse!

We tried the veal saltimbocca, but both the veal and prosciutto were tough... hard to cut with a knife. It should have been more tender. We had trouble getting waitstaff's attention to pay our bill at the end of the meal... had to sit and wait quite awhile.

My friend has just bought an apartment directly opposite this restaurant so, with a group of friends descending upon her, she thought she'd book one of their music events which included a three course meal and cabaret (Tina Turner tribute). She was assured that, although our table would be upstairs, we'd have a bird's eye view of the cabaret on the ground floor. Sadly this wasn't the case, we were seated at the very back of the restaurant and couldn't see anything of the cabaret. Once we had finished eating we moved to the balcony area to see but, by now, "Tina" was more than halfway through her act. We were then also in the way of staff working. So very disappointing as there was a great vibe going on downstairs. Unfortunately, the food was also a let down. It makes complete sense to offer a set price menu for this sort of evening but it was very uninspiring and didn't really seem to be particularly Italian. I will say that my steak and chips main was very good but others in our party of 9 were unimpressed. One steak had to be returned as it was impossible to cut and two were not cooked as requested. We did speak to the management team who didn't offer any explanation as to what went wrong. On the plus side, we had a lovely waitress who worked so hard to make our evening better. She even took it upon herself to offer us some complimentary drinks as she realised how disappointed we were. This restaurant has some very good reviews so perhaps we were unlucky with the food that evening, however, there was no excuse for placing a table as far away as possible from the action. It had the potential of being a go to place to eat but, unfortunately, I don't think we'll be visiting again for a while.

It was a Saturday night when we visited Trattoria Italiana and the place was buzzing. This said, the service was fast as there were an abundance of waiters/waitresses, who all appeared to be Italian. I went for the 'Spaghetti a la Scoglio' (fish and shellfish with tomato and basil). It was a picture, generously filled with mussels, clam, prawns and langoustine, the sauce full of flavour. My wife had the 'Ravioli Aurora' (handmade ricotta and spinach ravioli with a classic Bolognese sauce), also fantastic. All in all, a memorable meal and highly recommended.

A great dining experience. We arrived in a downpour and the staff were friendly and accommodating despite the fact we looked like drowned rats! The food was all lovely, pleasant bruschetta to start, delicious mains, one said it was the best ravioli she had ever had, puds to die for, the lemon tart got particular praise, and good house wine. It was busy but we never felt rushed.

We have been coming here for over twenty years, and can honestly say we've never had a bad experience. Whatever time, we are greeted like old friends, and the food is consistently excellent. Please remember to tip in cash though,as apparently the staff don't receive gratuities added to the card payment ☹️

My wife and I had an impromptu lunch, eating a shared antipasto misto. This was very good indeed, with a fine mixture of meats, cheese and vegetables accompanied by some excellent focaccia. Also, our americano coffees were first class. The service was high quality.
