Transylvania Restaurant in Northampton

Like many people, I've never tried Romanian food, so I had no idea what to expect when I came to Transylvania. But everything was great, and the service was exemplary, with complimentary Romanian liqueurs offered throughout!

This place was a pot luck find. I'm telling you now, if you're looking for traditional home cooked food this is really the place to go! The service is outstanding and I would highly recommend all of the foods there.

Good Eastern European food. Definitely taste the unique flavour of having something different. Portion is extremely generous. Service we received had absolutely zero complaints - got a homely vibe rather than a well run engine but I like that relaxed atmosphere. I think if it's super busy then expect a slightly slower service but you get the feeling that you're there to chill rather than rush through. Expect to spend around £15pp which will include couple of drinks + starters + mains. We enjoyed it and I'd happily go there again.

My friend and I visited this restaurant and the waitress was amazing. We both work in hospitality and we were blown away by the genuine, passionate and knowledgeable service this lady provided (she is on the pictures). She really made our night and made us feel like royalty. And the food was amazing. We had salmon, traditional meat dish and starters. Portions were generous and the home made wine was unbelievable. I think it is the best wine I have ever had and I don't say it lightly. Well done, Transylvania restaurant. What an awesome experience 😍

Is a really small place but is clean and the lady that served us was really nice, the food was delicious. I went on there because I want some “papanași” and I can say that I enjoy. We also have some “ Mici” and “Ciorbă”

Visited the restaurant this week with my partner and some friends and let me tell you what a disappointment!!! As for the starters they didn't had half of what is on the menu and I ended up eating some reheated breaded mushrooms which were absolutely disgusting, bland, full of grease. On complaint about the starters I was offered a traditional salad to be served with my main course. As per main arrival everyone else got a side salad but me, which not sure why but was so fed up by the time that not even bothered asking for it. Main course once again reheated food, could see straight away just by the looking at the Schnitzel, I'm no Gordon Ramsay but I can tell the difference between a fresh cooked piece of meat and a reheated one, and of course the taste and texture just proved it. How can this be possible??? I do understand that some courses could take a long time to be cooked so they might be prepared beforehand but deep fry a Schnitzel takes about 5 minutes. The service was also very poor, it seemed to me that the people running this place have absolutely no experience and are way over their heads. I'd say that the best thing of the meal was the “local” beer but even that was warm. To help with all of it my partner was sick in the during the night, not blaming the food but don't see any other reason for this. Once thing is for sure, my friends and I will never go back to that place and will make sure I tell everyone about the experience I had in this place.

Came here twice in a 4 night stay in Northampton. The food is wonderful, the service is great. The meatball peasant soup is delicious!!! Loved this place so much that we are actually thinking of planning a day trip from Kent just so we can bring our friends.

Really lovely to get some proper food from a takeaway. Only issue is they packed in very leaky containers so have a tray ready. Genuinely lovely European food. Hoorah for Europeans!

Amazing find in the Wellingborough Rd Northampton. The food straight from the east reminded me of holidays to Eastern Europe. The lady who served us was so welcoming and friendly. Recommended the Outlaw Platter. The price is good too. Can't go wrong. Not your run of the mill chain restaurant. Come here to eat for something a little different.

We were the only 2 people in the restaurant - but it was midweek - it did seem that we were not supposed to be there - a bit uncomfortable and staff struggle to explain the dished which were I am sure very authentic - a shame really as I expected a better experience

Ordered once and it was amazingly tasty. I think they forgot to put potato mush with my order. Black pancakes are to day for. Ordered 2 more times but both times declined my order :/

I know I should have pressed harder for more information but we ended up with food we were not expecting and far too much meat for us to cope with, and hardly any other food sources. Service was friendly and the restaurant looked good.

This restaurant has a good relaxed atmosphere. With good service and great food. I would recommend this restaurant to my friends.

Place is not too big, minimal decoration. I must say that when we visited their website, they had a lot more food and dessert choices than in reality. Fair size starters. Negatives: My partner wanted to order tripe soup, it was on the menu, but it turned out it wasn’t available. After deciding to have a different soup, which according to the restaurant’s Facebook page supposed to arrive inside of a loaf bread, it arrived in a bowl. Main course: we fancied one fish type from the menu, just to find out that, that wasn’t available either. My main course supposed to come with fresh cabbage salad, came out with slices of tomatoes. Asked for hunters sauce(same, it was on the menu), guess what? They haven’t had that one… Either we are really unlucky with our food choice, or this restaurant hasn’t got 60% of their menu available. Their selection of soft drinks it's not on the menu, hence it's quite hard to place an order in case you're not drinking anything alcoholic. They shouldn’t mislead customers on their website and Facebook with loads of choices and appealing pictures, when in reality, they only got a small amount of food displayed on their menu, and even these were mostly not available.

We went there to try something new. The food was really below average. Even vegetables in a simple vegetable salad were not ripe enough for consumption, not to mention everything else... Sorry, but really disappointed. Never ever again.

I got the Groupon voucher. There were ants on the table and crawling up the walls. I will never return. The food was luke warm and they served warm white wine. All in all a funny experience but never putting myself through that again!

Groupon deal bought for us by relatives from Wolverhampton ! We didn't know what to expect ! On walking into the restaurant it was very light,clean and modern. The owner, Michael and his wife were very welcoming and explained everything. The choices for the complimentary glass of wine were very good. The main meal was a HUGE platter of lots of traditional dishes mostly meat with chips and potatoes with some vegetables/peppers etc. .Very tasty and could have catered for 3/4 ! Only complaint for me was needed more fresh salad / vegetables which we mentioned to Michael. New menu looks great and also do take away and home delivery! I must point out to start with that four of us we went as a groupon deal and for the price we paid that was just over £10:00 each for a seven course tasting menu including a glass of wine it was superb - an a amazing selection of freshly cooked food. I visited this restaurant having purchased a voucher from Groupon that promised a seven course tasting menu with a glass of wine. The restaurant itself has no character whatsoever and has a pretentious feel about it... Feels like a run down "caf" trying to be something else. Old chairs covered with symthetic stretch covers, no decoration or pictures on the wall and what seems like 70's carpet on the floor.The waiter was the best thing about the place, very courteous and accommodating. The seven course tasting menu turned out to be one course ... A single sharing platter! False advertising or what?!!!!The sharing platter had piled on it the following items of food: amaemic chips, a slab of polenta, fried potatoes with onions, deep fried (to a crisp) Rumanian mini sausages, deep fried chicken wings, minced beef kebab (tasteless and undercooked) cured pork trotter meat, pork neck meat, chicken slice (incredibly salty) cabbage leave stuffed with minced pork). Accompanying this greasy oversalted feast were three sauces - sweet mustard, a sour cream/mayo type dressing and a spicy paprika/tomato ketchup type sauce. The whole thing was ganished with one cherry tomato and a couple of bits of parsley. The Rumanian sausages might have been quite nice had they not been fried to death and the fried potatoes with onions were fine but everything else was just a salty greasy mess and the mince kebabs undercooked.

Groupon deal, went with my husband. I found the waiter and owner to be welcoming and the place had a nice charm even if not to big.We also had the tasting platter of Traditonal foods which was simple but well cooked and the waiter explained the dishes we were having. Nice If you don't mind some throwback music and want something affordable but out of the ordinary.

We used our Groupon deal to visit this restaurant. It was smaller than we had thought from the website and tables a bit crammed together. From the deal we had one glass of wine each, and a platter. The platter contained chips, stewed cabbage, lamb, chicken, pork, polenta, sausages - all tasted very good. We paid extra for the desserts, but these were very limited to what was on the menu. Ended up with pancakes with chocolate for myself, and pancakes with blueberry jam - all excellent. Romanian music played loudly in the background and the restaurant was visited by a lot of Romania people. I have given it a lower rating only because the food was limited, and the tables was crammed.

We shared a grilled meat platter. Plenty of food, all tasty. Th sausage and cabbage was our favourite.The Romanian wine was also good. Great value for money.We are planning on returning to try some of the stews.

We had a Groupon for 3 courses and a glass of wine so was eager to see what this new restaurant had to offer.We were told to sit where ever we fancied so made ourselves comfy and were soon served our wine.Some great debate on what was starters and what was mains as the prices are very cheap!Deal was soup for starters , main dish then dessert. Easy! But the menu for us English is a little confusing so after some translation we soon made our choices and thoroughly enjoyed it all.The Romania wine was really good so we ordered another bottle of the red and thoroughly enjoyed that too!Yes, the dishes are different and simple but it wouldn't be Transylvanian if it wasn't!Be brave, the waitor doesn't bite and ask for recommendations. You won't be disappointed. We will be back!

I knew as soon as we walked into the restaurant it wouldn't be good. The music was more suited to a nightclub and the interior lacked any charm. Due to incorrect English and no explanations of what the dishes were on the menu, I ended up with a plate of deep fried cheese and mushrooms. Although this is what I ordered, it was not the Romanian experience I was expecting. The food was alarmingly cheap- £3.50 for a breast of chicken and potatoes, but probably the price I would expect for canteen style food. To add to the experience, the owners friends kids were running up and down the length of the restaurant the whole time we were there, which grew tiresome.

We visited with 2 friends on a Groupon. Met with total lack of interest and no engagement from waiter. Had to ask for description of food from him and he never smiled all evening. The food was different - which was why we went so all ok. We ordered a bottle of wine and asked for a jug of tap-water. We were refused the water and told only bottles were available. When it came it was small and luke-warm and we did not see the top being opened so it might well have been tap- water.Then we were charged £3.50 for it. I wasn't sure of my ground at the time, and we were with friends so we didn't make a fuss but I later confirmed that it is illegal to charge for tap-water wherever alcohol is served. I wanted to give the Management the opportunity to respond so I e mailed a complaint and attached the legal stuff confirming the potential penalties and fines for illegal charging. Got an acknowledgement and offer of a proper response in a couple of days. Have heard nothing 2 weeks later. PS The wine was awful too.

We popped in for a midweek meal and had the tasting platter, braised cabbage, polenta, Romanian sausage, pork chop, grilled chicken, pork in cabbage leaves and fantastic chips. Food was simple but tasty and beautifully cooked and excellent value for money.

Unless you are romanian avoid this place. Was very difficult to find something decent on the menu, all the dishes were very basic and easy too cook ( i dont want to eat at the restaurant what i can do in 5 minutes home. I decide to go for fish anyway and a greek salad where my partner goes for roast pork, when food arrives was already cold ( we waited 1 hour), lettuce and tomatoes were stale! On top of that music was so loud we couldnt speak and it gave me a terrible headache.

A lovely little restaurant with very nice food and wine. Serving staff very nice but a bit slow due to customers asking lots of questions (including us!).
