Consistently good fish and chips over the years.

My wife and I visited her on Saturday when in St Neots and it’s superb. Freshly cooked fish with crispy, tasty batter. Very good value for money and good solid portion size. We sat and ate ours outside on a nearby wall and were commenting all the way through about the quality of the food. Genuinely some of the best fish and chips I’ve had.

First time trying this chip shop and the two young gentlemen working today served me with such joy and amazing energy. They were welcoming.The young man who served me made me feel welcome and had a great conversation with me. The food was delicious. Could not recommend a better place to get lunch time fish and chips. Definitely coming back not only for the food but for the service!

Too greasy and had strange taste to the chips, couldn't eat.

I came in today (12/08/24) for a trial of this chip-shop and I must say it was AMAZING the food was crispy fresh and lovely but the highlight of it was the staff even in this blazing heat the staff welcomed me with a smile very respectful polite and great service I will be coming back when in town again the owner should be very proud of the food they serve and the staff they have. Can’t wait to come back.

I usually come in on a Thursday afternoon to pick up a large battered sausage and a small chips and have no complaints. I came in last Thursday and the service was just awful. I wasn’t spoken to with any respect, my server looked miserable and I truly felt uncomfortable while waiting for my food. I’ve never had this problem before but unfortunately this has hindered my perspective of traditional fish and chips forever. I will not be coming back here again unless the service is up to standard because that Thursday evening encounter was unacceptable. Sort out your staff.

Great little fish and chip shop, unlike others in town the chips are always crispy and tasty!

Ordered a large cod and chips £13.65 i think, smelt lovely, got home and opened it only to find a very average portion of chips and a piece of fish that over half of it was more batter than fish. Very disappointed. It did taste ok, but was left hungry, wont be doing that for a lunchtime treat again.

Great little chip shop and served by a young legend. Unfortunately we arrived early and had a bit of a wait but friendliness and food were great.

Unfortunately chips looked like they were days old dry and full of black and green bits .Very disappointed

The fish tasted lovely, and I know I only ordered a small cod, but I did expect the fish to be larger than a teaspoon. Luckily my husband had a large cod which he shared so I didn’t go hungry. Took a photo to prove, it literally was the size of a teaspoon. Not very good. Reading through past reviews, this is not the first time. I would be happy to hear what owners have to say. Edit: I am still waiting for a response from the chip shop, seems they only reply to positive feedback. Always used in past but will not use them again, nor will I recommend them.

Food was great and the service from the young lady on the 18/12 was impeccable couldn’t fault. There was a gentleman behind the till aswell but his tone when speaking to the lady was awful and at some point the way he was talking to her was making her think she can’t do get job and had her apologising for something silly I get we all get under pressure when busy but there’s no need to make colleagues feel useless aswell completely unprofessional if he is her boss and he has an issue with the way she’s doing something it shouldn’t be addressed infront of 5 customers

Was very happy after a long shift to part ways my hard earned money to these guy is a joke I asked for quarter cuicken and got 3 bites off the chiken which wasn’t even seasoned and tasted off

Absolutely shocking. Chips are as dry as Gandhi’s flips flops. Butty came with no butter so I used it as a sponge to dry my tears when I seen the portion size. Should have just taken my money and threw it in the bin outside. Zero stars.

Food was lovely. Service by the owner very friendly. But and huge but. Very price and very small portions. Large is not large and nearly a fiver per portion. There are other places that other more for you money and quality is par. There are worse for cheaper also so be careful.

Ordered 1/4 chicken with chips. Both items were cold, chicken was very dry and the chips were hard. Very poor so won't be going there again 🥺

Absolutely disgusting chips they are hard not very hot smell like dirty oil and have a strange nutty taste. Not even good enough for the dog! Had to click 1 star or I couldn't review. Wouldn't recommend

Basic chip shop operating next to a local Spar store. Fish cooked to order however very greasy, no consistancy with the batter and easily falls away from the fish. The chips are average, though can be greasy towards the bottom of the tray, this loses the crunch and flavour. Prices are fair but standards need improving, the constructive remedy is to degrease the food before serving.

Best fish and chips in St Neots.

I first used this chip shop a couple of ýears ago. Unfortunately they were not very good. The chip portions were way too small and the fish was always overcooked and dry, so I kept away However I'd heard through the grapevine that they had improved and upped their game. So over the past couple of weeks I have popped in on couple of occasions and now I got too say, I am very impressed. The large battered Cod and Chips i just had tonight were nigh on perfect. The Cod was a very impressive size indeed and the batter was spot on. The chips, although i ordered a small portion, were plentiful and were cooked just as I like them If they can keep this up, they could quite easily become the best chip shop in town

Worst chips we have ever eaten. Would only consider returning if it was between that and starving. Avoid at all costs! Expensive as well!

I’ve waited so long I’ve had time to write this review, proof read it, send it to my editor receive the reply and add it to the review. They seem to be going order by order which is ok for cooked fresh fish but not for pie and chips.

We had fish and chips, scampi and chips, chicken nuggets and chips and pineapple fritter. It was awful the chips tasted like they had been cooked hours the fritter was binned as it was so overcooked. The nuggets and scampi were binned for the same reason. My niece who is 7 wouldn’t eat hers she said it tasted like trash. Terrible expensive waste of money. Sorry have been pleased in the past but not this time

Go. Here. These guys went out of their way to make us the best crispy cod with our chips after we told them that the usual Danish fare is very dry, decades-frozen plaice or flounder. Totally lived up to their promise, THANKS!

Fish was nice and fresh! The potatoes on the other hand were not the best - probably wouldn't choose this chippy again.

Fish and chips very good Very helpful staff

Have used lots in the past and thought would retry. Rung to order large white side of plaice, sadly they did not have any. Bearing in mind it was Thursday lunchtime was hoping that stock levels should be reasonable. Considering the price increases at all fish and chip establishments would like to think they would be keen for business. Maybe they have been extra busy and sold out.

Been coming here since I moved to St Neots in 2020. Tried many others but this place serves the best food and very reasonable pricing. Staff are always lovely too. Don’t understand the negative reviews on here. Very much a repeat customer

Very friendly and helpful staff provide a great service. Good size portions and very nicely cooked. Fish is always clean, white and very tasty with great batter. Chips are well cooked and are always good. Very happy customer!

Sadly the chips and sausage did not taste good.

Consistently good fish and chips, portions are generous and the chips are cooked to perfection - nice and golden and crispy! Staff are always very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Highly, highly recommend.

Expensive for what it is, fish cooked fresh however batter not adhering to fish, very greasy as well. The chips were very dry so not freshly cooked, and a large proportion of "scrappy" bits instead of nice fat chips. Quoted 5/6 minutes for food which doubled to 10/12 minutes in the real world. All in all, don't bother unless desparate.

Ordered because of a recommendation of a friend, I ordered half chicken and large chips. The drumsticks and wing was nice and succulent however the Brest was as dry. Now the chips, they were so soggy and I asked for salt and vinegar and got non. They tasted like a soggy wet puddle. Overall chicken wings and drumstick good bur Breast and chips awful

Portion sizes are shocking, got handed a bag full of paper packaging with no food in it for about 15 quid.

Had fish and chips at this place tonight and I could not believe how shocking they were.The fish was really dry and the chips were cold and mushy. Thank god I didn't order mushy peas. Deffo won't be using this place again.Rang up to complain and guy in charge was very defensive and said he had been there 13 years.How the he'll has this survived all this time serving this rubbish

Our first and last visit to the traditional fish and chip shop in St Neots! Ordered a large portion of chips which was only a few chips on a tray that would only feed 1person and they were stone cold, the pie was luke warm and the savaloys were also cold! Only live half a mile down the road so it wasn't as if the 2min drive was long enough for them to get cold! Dont rate this chip shop at all, will go elsewhere next time.

Absolutely the worst fish and chips I've ever had. Tiny, tiny portions, flavourless and extremely expensive. One piece of "medium" sized fish was about a 6 inch long piece of tail, which equated to 4 mouthfuls, covered in stodgy, soggy, greasy batter and cost £5.35! The "large" chips were 2 small handfuls with very few chips and lots of hard scrappy bits costing £3.20! The mushy peas were OK, but again, a small portion. Had I not had a long day at work and driven all the way home before I discovered the "offering", I would have gone back and asked for a refund. I don't think that Traditional Fish and Chips do "bring a taste of the sea to St. Neots" nor do they "create memories that last a lifetime" as their advert suggests on Blackcat Radio (a brilliant station!) Needless to say, we'll not be returning.

Traditional fish-n-chips cooked fresh.to order, and winner of the best fish-n-chips awards. clean 5 star rated premises with friendly staff. traditional cod/haddock cooked fresh in three portion sizes makes a meal to suit most folk. along with other regular offerings pies sausage ect ect. Great traditional fish-n-chips skinned cod or haddock is the best you can get. the Car Park is shared by the neighbouring units so at times can be busy and hard to get a spot to park. now that the online ordering is available with the times your order will be ready there is no need for waiting outside or in a queue as your order will be ready there when you arrive remember your phone or print your order number before you go to collect your food

Great fish and chips great flavour and texture

I ordered 2 large portions of chips, large sausage in batter and 3 portions of cod bites to share between me, my wife and 2 grandchildren. The portions of chips were quite small (they barely filled the tray). The cod bites were extremely greasy. The sausage was better. It was the 1st time I have been there. I don't think I would go there again

It maybe not trendy or perfectly located in high street, but Traditional Fish and chips is a great place. I'd the fried chicken and it was awesome.

We just had lovely cod & haddock and chips for lunch. Very tasty and freshly made.

portion sizes are TINY for chips

Ordered haddock and chips today at the front hatch - the lady serving there was extremely friendly and efficient. Took fish and chips home and discovered that the batter was so soggy it completely detached itself from the fish. On eating the fish itself it was thick but extremely dry - also quite tasteless but not as tasteless as the batter. The chips were thick and anaemic looking - tasted undercooked and a bit ‘earthy’. Food poor but two stars for accepting cards and the friendly lady.

Thank you for the lovely fish and chips I picked up on Friday. I had company and they thoroughly enjoyed it all, no waste at all. So enjoyable. Will visit soon.

Our first visit & also our last.Ordered a large haddock, large cod & large plaice. Too much batter, fish very dry & tasteless. Ordered large but portion size given was small & over battered to disguse the small portions of fish. Chips OK. Large sausage tasted the best being succulent & moist. Member of staff at the entrance polite & courteous.

Used to be good, but really gone downhill. Today's visit (and last) was cod with uncooked batter on it, small chips when I ordered and paid for large. How hard can it be to get fish and chips right? Shame.

The first and last time I'll ever order from Traditional Fish and Chips... Portion sizes are absolutely tiny... 1x Large Chips was half the size of our regular chippy's Small! Shame our regular chippy is shut on a Sunday. On the plus side, the curry sauce was nice!

Ordered a small and a large chips, both absolutely tiny, couldnt believe it. The tray was barely full, spent about £8 and was still hungry, not what you’d expect from a uk chippy

We decided to try the fish n chips from this place for a change. Good COVID measures in place while ordering and waiting. quite a bit dearer than others in area. portions very small considering cost. Chips were nice but Cod not great - very small and not very tasty. disappointing overall as small serving, very average food and very expensive.

Got a large haddock and chips. Haddock was tastless and chips were cold. Paying £2.30 for a portion of chips worked out 10 pence per chip.

Delicious fish and chips with super huge portions!

Super-friendly staff, excellent fried fish and chips, battered sausages, southern fried chicken and rotisserie chicken. Good value for high quality. We visit them regularly and missed the shop during the lockdown.

Not bad fish n chips but very small portion

I arrived at about 4.15pm to find the shop closed. I went up to the door to find out what opening hours were. As the shop was going to open at 4.30pm I returned to my car to wait but the door to the shop opened and the proprietor asked me in and asked what I wanted to order. He then proceeded to cook my order. I took home the best Cod and chips I have had for some time. I will definitely use this outlet again.

We stopped off to buy fish and chips, also my husband wanted a piece of chicken which when we got it home was so dry to eat, possibly been left for a while. We also had a gerkin which turned out to be so small. We would have felt that they could have given us two of those as where we have been before that is what happens if the gerkin is too small. The fish was nice and tasty so no complaints about the fish, chips were ok.Just that my husband couldn't eat the chicken.

Ordered pie sausage and chips plus curry sauce.The pie was uncooked or not reheated properly the pastry was soggy and the curry sauce were slightly warm. The chips were cold and a lot of them had black inside. The sausages were not too bad. The whole meal was a disaster. Very disappointed.Used to use a lot a few years back but will not be visiting again.

Book ur order in advance to avoid large ques lovely food very friendly service

Not the best fish and chips. 17.30 on a Friday evening so you'd think everything would be freshly cooked and as good as it gets, but the batter on the fish was soft and doughy and the chips weren't that special, soft and squashy with way too many small, hard bits that you can't eat. Quite expensive too. Maybe I was unlucky and I will try them again just in case they were having a bad day.

Ordered 23 portions of fish and chips to be delivered to Buckden. Absoultley delighted, they arrived on time, in two easy to manage cardboard boxes. Each potion was individually packed in a environmentally friendly box with a wooden knife and fork. Fish and chips delicious, still hot and non-greasy. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone who wishes a bulk order with delivery. Well done

I had the haddock and chips, was really well cooked and tasted great, also good curry sauce and gerkins. Would recommend. A bit on the pricey side but I don’t mind when the food is good!

We’ve been going into this Chippy for a few years now and I personally think it’s our best chippy in St Neots. We are vegan as a family so we just get our chips here. They fry their chips separately in Rapeseed oil which is a bonus as no other chippy does this in St Neots as I’ve checked plus others use animal fat, YUK!! So keep up your fantastic job. Staff are always friendly and very helpful and are very open to dietary questions which is great. Any chance of a vegan burger or sausage to go with my chips though 😂.
