Town Fry in Newcastle upon Tyne

Literally while entering it smelled amazing. We had the hot & spicy pizza this tasted super nice and was made on the spot. And we had the chicken tikka kebab, they asked if we wanted some sauce and we added some kind of garlic oil/sauce which made it even better. Definitely would come back

Chips and curry sauce is a no go

La mejor comida que he tenido en mucho tiempo. ¿Por dónde empiezo? El servicio, la calidad de la comida, la sensación de estrella Michelin. Quedó la rodaja de margarita con patatas fritas, increíble. No puedo decir mucho más. Mi compañera tenía la envoltura de la ponchadera con todos los adornos, como ha tenido en muchas ocasiones y no podía fallar. Una de las mejores salidas nocturnas que hemos tenido en mucho tiempo, incluso con el cambio de nombre de Golden Fry, que nos sorprendió, pero todavía se hizo justicia con la comida.

The food is really good, and this is the second time I have been there. Love their chicken wrap with chips! But the service by the lady who takes the order is really bad, unlike the other staff. She’s rude even when asking for recommendations. I wouldn’t go there again just for this reason.

Don’t even bother. When going to a kebab/chip shop after a night out you don’t look for high standards, you just want your grub- I’ll give them a point for good location, but the service was APPALLING. They tried to charge more than the menu said and got multiple orders wrong, accusing my friend of taking another group members’ food when said group member hadn’t even ordered yet! Then they tried to aggressively make my friend pay again when she asserted part of her order was missing, and she had to prove her innocence and that she’d already paid! Just very rude overall and the server had such a bad attitude, not listening to our concerns at all. The chips were alright but the spring rolls were vile and everyone ended up chucking their food away. I understand that they probably get a bit sick and tired of drunk groups but at the end of the day we’re paying customers. Town Fry made me Cry 👎☹️

This was a fantastic chippy to get lunch from, with all the options presented clearly at the counter! Green design is nice and my fish & chips was quality after fast service, although the abundance of seating was clear for me.

It's a takeaway , disappointing curry sauce

I was greeted by an Indian lady and when asked about vegetarian options she immediately informed me that fries are not vegetarian as they are cooked in the same oil as the fish. That was a great presence of mind. We ordered pizza and fish and chips and it was a hearty meal. All food was tasty.

Used to be good. But now unfriendly and often showing attitude especially to Asian customers. Cod undercooked. Gravy too salty and bland. Curry sauce is bitter. Dont waste your money and time here.

Went to the theatre on Wednesday night and dropped into the Town fry for a fish supper afterwards. Bought fish & chips and sausage & chips to take home. 12 hours later and continuing today, both of us who ate the food are struck down with what can only be food poisoning. We are both still in bad shape and stuck to the lavatory turning ourselves inside out. BEWARE.

We waited 15 minutes to go inside (there was a note saying "I'll be back in 15 minutes") only to find out that you can't eat there. It was 8:30 p.m. There should be information (a card) saying that they only accept takeaway orders.

The place absolutely serves a valid purpose: providing grub for the lashed. I have been lashed several times upon entry to the place this Xmas. If you haven't been flooded with billions of pints you'll never ever go I suspect. However, the convenience is handy for a sack of chips to see you right, or nearly right when the night is done. I've only ever done in their chips, fishcakes and sausage provision. In the moment it's a life saver. In the cold light of day I may well think otherwise.

The food is so good. The man that served it was very nice. Definitely recommend this.

I am an Erasmus student. The first day I arrived I had dinner there and they served me a decent fish & chips. Today I went again because I had forgotten to buy cutlery and I went to ask them to give me 4 plastic forks for a pasta I had made (I had forgotten to buy cutlery). There were two clerks, one very young and friendly, who immediately went to give them to me, when he was going to give them to me, another (who is NOT the manager) who was older arrived and began to tell me that it was impossible to give/sell me 4 DE forks. PLASTIC, because if his boss checked the security cameras and saw him giving/selling me 4 forks of PLASTIC he could fire him. He didn't seem very willing to give it to me either. Honestly, I have been very disappointed with this place and I will not return again this entire year ahead of me in Newcastle. I don't understand why he didn't want to sell me 4 plastic forks.

Very greasy ,couldn't see what kind of storage salad was in ,done in the back I like to see . Partner had fish and chips ,smelt the oil more than the food .yuk.

Misleading pictures and description. Ordered through deliveroo. Ordered two regular sized fish and chips; both came in a lite bite box and looked like the smaller portion. The pictures on the app, which look like they're taken in the takeaway, contained curry sauce and mushy peas. The food did not come with those. When phoned up, the guy said that the pictures are just suggestions and you have to order those separately and when mentioned the portion and box he paused then unsurely said that it just comes in that box. The food itself was ok, not really seasoned so didn't have much flavour. Wouldn't order fish and chips from here again. Not worth the price. Had pizza from here last year which was ok as well. Better than the fish and chips so had higher expectations.

Always nice food great lunchtime offers

After a few refreshments we were trying to find our way back to the hotel and needed something to eat. We saw the Town Fry and immediately took advantage. The guys inside were really good and had the food ready in the blink of an eye. Even though I had asked for a medium sized chicken kebab the portion was pretty generous and the accompanying chilli sauce was spot on. It really hit the spot. I tried a different fast food place the second night I was there and it was a poor substitute in comparison. Next time I'm in Newcastle I'll definitely keep it in mind.

POOR FOOD HYGIENE!!! Seems like a clean takeaway from what meets the eye. I ate here on Tuesday night after arriving in Newcastle (donner and chips) Wednesday morning started to feel nauseous, through out the day deteriorated, couldn’t sleep all night, body aching, weak muscles, fever, stomach cramps. Thought I had came down with the flu, dehydrated, dry throat which brought on a cough, wasn’t until my girlfriend mentioned it must have been something I’ve ate. Then I realised I have food poising, I did a process of elimination which brought me to this takeaway ! I’ve ate pizza here years ago and wasn’t sick so maybe it was dirty salad or not washing their hands or not following the correct due diligence with the kebab meat I don’t know but go here at your own risk.... Real Shame

The fact its hygiene test was in2013 and the battered fish was mush not happy also a sign saying no cams cellphones or video allowed. Why????

Nothing fabulous, a decent place with ordinary fish & chips. Kebab meat is quite good though, but garlic sauce leaves much to be desired.

The pizzas here are really good . Staff are really friendly. Very nice place.

Arguments started when a customer ahead of wanted two dips that he paid for and they refused to give him it. I pay for the dips for him and they still do so. £1.20 down already. I then get to the counter and ask for a portion of chips nothing else said. £1.80 down. They then go ahead to make my order before adding condiments that I for one do not like and two did not ask for. Bringing up the concern the employee says “Come on man” as if it was my fault. Appalling customer service and would not recommend even a homeless person to go here. Terrible!

Okay fish and chips. Good for a quick bite but don't expect the world. Fish was fresh though, so gets a thumbs up for that. Friendly staff and quick turn around. Can't fault it but nothing extraordinary. More of an end of the night place to soak up the beer.

Review for kebab mix. Nearly all kebab places cook the mixed kebab fresh. Not here! All out of a Bain Marie. To call it a kebab mix is misleading it’s kebab meat and supermarket processed sandwich chicken with a very peculiar taste.No lamb kofte? The chilli sauce is so unbelievably sweet it would go better on toast, disgusting food.

My review is based on the Donner kebab, this has to be the best kebab for my taste in the northeast, the meat isn't greasy nor does it have the hard Chuck's of fat in other kababs I've tried, the chips were standard, but the star of the show is the chili sauce, oh my days, a very good balance of sweet and spicy, I love it can't get enough of the sauce. I have had no issues with the customer service, maybe this becomes an issue on a busy Friday/Saturday night, as its probably understandable if you have ever worked in hospitality, drunk people are a nightmare lol
