Toppers and Toast in Southend-on-Sea

Second time here and i actually think their lunch menu is better than their breakfast. Really yummy tacos and staff there were so friendly.

Altogether it was okaish experience. The vegan sausage had full of rosemary to the point it was not a pleasant taste. The bread was soft but very chewy. We asked the egg to be cooked well done, it was not. They are busy, one waitress was very nice but the other person was not communicative.

Amazing breakfasts served. Recommend the French toast as that does not disappoint. Small venue which results is a bit of a wait at times but the best brunch place around Leigh.

Came here on what I understood was a busier time than usual with my partner and her mum, we were told it was a long wait, around 30 mins or so. So we left and waited patiently, after 35 mins we came back and asked if there was anything free and was told the exact same thing, that the wait was really long and we were basically no closer to getting a table with no way of reserving or leaving our names too, I'll never waste my time coming here again and will actively recommend for other people to avoid this terrible place

We got a table in the garden which was great but found out from the next table they had no French toast which we all wanted! Ordered 3 drinks & a pancakes to share but only got 2 drinks, so 20 mins later we asked for the 3rd drink & got it off the bill which was nice! No toilet roll in the toilet either & asked but didn't gett so got from my bag! Not the greatest but would love to try the French toast!

Couldn’t be more accommodating. The food and service were exceptional. Nothing was too much and the flavours were perfect.

Not sure why you cant book a table - inside or out! Its the 21 Century. Also the phone number on google is not correct. They do not have a phone!

Having eaten here multiple times (probably 8), I'm impressed that the food is always great! Every dish looks amazing. I went big brekkie and berry protein smoothie this time and was happy with both. The staff are always pleasant. Getting a table can be tight if they don't have the other seating area open, so it's all about the timing!

Went for Father's day brunch. Busy place, waitress really did her best to sit us swiftly so we didn't wait. Food was not disappointing at all. Prices are fair. Overall a very good experience.

With every trip to Southend we always make sure to visit Toppers for either breakfast or brunch!!

Nice place but waited over 30 mins for a portion of chips whilst other people's food came out before. Had to ask waitress where my food was otherwise would not have received.

Nice food, lovely decor inside. But sick of this culture of tacking on a 10% service charge at the end of a meal, thus turning it into an awkward plight on whether to ask for it taken off or not, especially when service is an average standard to any other place you can go. Just increase the menu prices to reflect the true costs you want to charge, and distribute that to your workers. Get this implied-compulsory Americanism out of UK establishments.

All I can say is YUMMMM- will be going again for sure!

My favourite little cafe. The garden area to eat is so lovely - real little sun trap when the weather is good. Food is always brilliant here, and the service is great too.

We were quite happy sitting in the garden enjoying the weather but we noticed a handful of customers who came in after we had ordered our food were getting served their food and leaving so we kindly asked if our food was on its way (we thought maybe there was a mixup). We got spoken to so rudely by the staff/manager it was appalling. Not one apology for the delay and we was made to feel as if it was our fault because we apparently took too long to order our food and they have to cook everything from fresh. We were taken back in the moment and looking back now we regret not walking out there and then. To top it off, you don't mind paying more when you’ve enjoyed it but when the bill came we paid £60 for 2x eggs on toast and 3 drinks and a horrible experience. We wouldn’t go back or recommend.

Avoid if you’re not looking for an ‘instagrammable’ food experience with tasteless food. My husband and I ordered French toast (chicken with maple syrup & pistachio with berries). We did not receive French toast…it was just a chunk of dry brioche loaf with toppings to make it look pretty. The chicken was also burnt. For £14.50 per dish, this was an absolute rip off.

Nice place, decent coffee but the muffin we had was absolutely foul. Hard to believe they are happy to serve them

Asked for a table for two the rude girl behind the counter replied, they have just paid so wait outside. Considering it was raining I found this extremely rude. I've eaten here before and standing in the rain to wait to eat here is just not worth it. I will not be returning.

Love coming to this place. Lovely breakfast and coffees. Always polite staff that are on the ball to serve you. Showed a few friends that had never been and they have all returned. Easily a 5 star place.

Waited outside in the freezing cold for 45 minuites just to not be accomadated because they refused to add an extra chair on a table of 2 for a child. Child left in tears from being cold and hungry. Shocking customer service

Loved the options here for breakfast/brunch, there was so much to pick from both sweet or savoury. We had the pancake stack and french toast and it was so delicious, the coffee was great too. It’s quite small, cosy and well decorated inside, we didn’t have to wait too long for a table on a busy Sunday morning. Highly recommend going for breakfast, we will for sure be back!

Service let this place down... Food was lovely, it was a really nice day so we were able to sit outside and soak up the sun in the gorgeous terrace area. We traveled an hour to come here so was excited to try but the service was a huge let down.... I ordered a vanilla matcha latte and my friend ordered a iced oat latte. When the drinks came out they had put the vanilla in my friends drink instead of mine. When we let the waitress know she went to take the drinks back to change them and at the same time dripped coffee over my cream tote bag. Ok mistakes happen and she did say sorry and that she will go and get a cloth but she didn't return for 10 minutes (at which time the coffee had stained) and she returned with some napkins which she THREW on the table in front of me so I had to clean up the mess she made!! it gets worst....she then came back with my friends drink and said that there was no vanilla in there and they aren't going to make another one, wait sorry what?!? we were shocked! I even tried my friends drink and there was 100% vanilla in there! I mean unless they tried the drink how would they know! Very unprofessional, maybe they should take some time to train their staff so they at least know some basic customer service skills.

The food is delicious, the salmon bagel and spicy eggs are heavenly. Atmosphere was incredible - sitting outside in the garden feels like you've escaped to another country. The service was a little slow to start with but picked up after.

The food was a 10/10 as it always is!! I usually love this place, but my last 2 visits have not been as great - the service is awfully slow, food comes out before drinks etc. but still one of my faves - hopefully this was just a blip! :)

Food and service awesome we just arrived before 10am and grabbed a seat and it soon filled up and was fully occupied. Loved the lattes and also the mixed berry french toast with mascarpone was simply awesome!

Lovely small cafe in Leigh-on-sea just beyond the broadway. There are a few vegan options but not too many. The pancakes however, were a good size and the maple syrup being on the side was a good choice as I was given a mini-bucket of syrup to smother each layer in. Worth visiting as a plant-based/vegan eater.

So asked for French toast, was told that they had sold out. But when I left I walked passed a table who was eating French toast. (They came in after me) also asked for cold milk with my coffee still got warm milk

The food is amazing!! The staff is very friendly, they even let us order breakfast food even though we were late! The bread is amazing

We were visitors to the town for our mother daughter’s annual weekend away. We researched best pancakes and this restaurant came out on top. It was our bad luck that we found ourselves at the back of a queue waiting for the outside area to open. The inside was full to capacity. We waited over an hour in the full sun ( the one and only usable sunshade was not in our area ) to realise that each table was taking more than 15 minutes to complete their food order. With three more tables to serve we were not going to get our pancakes for a least another 45 minutes. The young staff were doing their best and we were reimbursed fully for the round of drinks we had received. We were so disappointed. If we had known that they were short staffed in the kitchen and the wait would be unusually long we would have been able to make a sensible choice not to sit and wait when time was precious for us on our mini break.

Menuless🤔 Popped my head around the Door and asked to see a Menu as i couldn't see one in the window to gauge the food offerings.. 'sorry we don't have any .. you have to scan the QR code to see what we have..' we spent our money elsewhere as there are so many other choices in this stretch of road..with easily visible menu's..

Love it here! Have been several times and thoroughly enjoyed every one. The outside area out the back is amazing in the summer and their food is delicious! I have had to queue to get in before as it’s very popular, but it is definitely worth the wait!

First time visit for me today. I must say from the warm welcome, to the lovely lay out and the food I can 100 percent say I will be returning… I ordered a pot of tea and the spicy eggs. The tea was lovely, served in a pot. I like my tea strong and it was perfect! As for the food I ordered, it was amazing. Generous portion size and reasonable prices. Servers very attentive. Food didn’t take long to come out. Even if I had to wait longer, it wouldn’t matter because it would be worth the wait! I can’t wait to visit again .. keep up the good work, you have a fantastic food establishment..

Stumbled across this lovely little cafe on Leigh High Street one afternoon, and what a treat it was. Cannot wait to return. Absolutely amazing food that tasted great, plates were beautifully presented which was a lovely suprise. The menu was beautiful, great choices and not overly expensive. Service was good, didn't wait long to be served which is a bonus. Waitress was attentive. The cafe itself isn't huge, lucky for us we had the last table available.. other couples were turned away once full, so booking maybe wise if this is an option, or, wait for a table to become available as it's totally worth it. Overall i thoroughly enjoyed the experience...Great place to visit for brunch/lunch, couldn't fault the food. Looking forward to returning.

A perfect place for a little rest on a cold afternoon, good coffee and delicious buttered sourdough toast. The staff were friendly and kind, the table was sanitised before I was seated without me having to ask, and there was a clean, well appointed toilet. All in all, a bit of a find.

Come in today for breakfast, we arrived when opening so we was guaranteed a seat. Within 30 minutes of the restaurant being open the restaurant was full, so definitely get there for when they open to be guaranteed a seat. The food was nice, very filling and well presented. You can pay on an app which I really liked so you don’t have to go up to the till and do that you can just pay and leave, the only thing that I don’t like was the service charge. I don’t like the fact that I have to leave a tip if I want to tip somebody then I will which I was happy to do but because the service charge was added on I didn’t pay the tip.

Been here on a few occasions now and its always busy with people and a great selection of food. I always prefer the physical menu (which they also have) rather than QR code menu but understand why they do this. overall great experience

Lovely place for brunch. Very friendly and attentive staff. Myself and my wife both had the French toast (one buttermilk chicken and one bacon) which we both thoroughly enjoyed. All washed down with good quality coffee. This is somehwere I'll definitely be visiting again to try something else on the menu.

The food here is just amazing! I had mushrooms & avocado on toast and the mushrooms are possibly the best I’ve ever had! Great service & friendly staff too. We’ve been to a couple of other cafes nearby and whilst food was ok, staff were a bit snooty, but this was definitely not the case here. Highly recommended

Absolutely horrible, if I could I would have left 0 stars for this place. Placed our order and literally got our coffees half an hour later. No sugar on table, asked for sugar twice as once was not enough. Had already placed our order and one hour into waiting now was advised that they in fact don’t have Nutella. Asked me if I wanted to order something else, even though I’m pregnant and have been waiting now an hour just to be told that what I ordered from the menu in fact was not available. Absolutely not with it, and seemed they didn’t even care they weren’t.

I had the Buttermilk Fried Chicken French Toast and it was absolutely to die for. The coffee was nice and service was super friendly. Highly recommended - we'll definitely be back!

Great experience. We sat in the Secret Garden. Walking through we were quite glad because the music inside was quite loud and our little ASD girl would have struggled with the noise. Service was prompt and very friendly. Our food was delicious my only problem was the mushrooms were slightly over peppered for my taste which took away the garlic and thyme flavour but it was still great. My partner had the Buttermilk Chicken French Toast and it was AMAZING. I had serious food regret with my choice. Will definitely go again and would recommend! 🙌🏻

Went for breakfast with friends, arrived a little before opening at 9 and staff were more than happy to let us into the garden. Garden is a beautiful space. Menu is via a QR code which was a bit tricky as hardly any signal, but we figured it out. The options all looked tempting, I settled o. Pancake stack with maple syrup and bacon - it was fantastic! Others on my table ordered the French toast with various toppings and another went for the full English. Everyone was raving about their choices and we will definitely be returning for another visit!

The chai lattes were 10/10. However the food was very disappointing. The food just didn’t stand out for me compared to other breakfast I’ve had, both the bacon and sausages were a little undercooked. We went on Saturday and had a 20/30 wait for a table for walk ins. They have gluten free bread on offer.

Unfortunately we didn't have a good experience today. Service was really poor, took more than an hour to get breakfast and that was only after we realised that our order had clearly slipped through the net along the way. The food was cooked in a rush and it was obvious. Coffee was like warm milk. The presentation of the food is nice and appreciate they were very busy but unlikely to visit again.

I visited Toppers and toast on Sunday 26th June. I had a vegan breakfast my daughter had a full English breakfast. We both agreed it was the best breakfast we had ever had. The staff were amazing. Cannot recommend enough. Will definitely be returning .

Went here not expecting anything more then a cafe, but it’s definitely worth a walk down the Broadway. Food was delicious and the portion size was huge. Service was great and it had a lovely Sunday afternoon atmosphere with some great background music. I’ll definitely be back

Excellent Food and Service. We enjoyed crisp chicken tacos and it was delicious. There is a fabulous secret garden which connects with the next door Market shop. Combaing both place, food drinks and service you can enjoy a superb experience. I'm looking forward to returning and enjoy more of their food.

Only live around the corner but first time at T&T. Great experience, pancakes and French toast were had, really nice. Kids also accommodated for with just enough room to squeeze our stupidly wide buggy into the secret garden which transports you to another place, feels like being on holidays. Pancakes could have done with another 30 seconds on the pan but that's probably personal preference, wife had no issue. Great menu so really looking forward to coming back far more often to work our way through the rest of the delicious looking food.

Lovely look and atmosphere. The garden is perfect when its sunny. The tacos and drinks were very tasty. Lovely place to catch up with friends. Sometimes hard to find space as you can't book. However, they are busy for a reason!

Today was my second visit and the food is quite simply amazing. Extremely tasty, well made, presentation was fantastic and the coffee is to die for. Breakfast is brilliant and the Brunch menu is unbelievably good. Love it.
