Topolabamba in Glasgow City

Honestly, hands down the best taco in Glasgow. Full of flavour, proper fresh ingredients, and just the right kick o’ spice. You can tell they care about what they’re serving. Every time I go, it hits the spot. If you’ve not tried it yet, you’re seriously missing out!

I was in last week with a date for some lunch and a beer. From the moment we walked in, the staff were not really that friendly. No smiles, no welcome, just lead us to our table to be seated. The food was decent and the beer was great with plenty choice on the menus. The one saving grace was that we had one younger waitress who was lovely, but I didn't get her name. She had given great service and had some personality. The whole experience was just awkward. Tad disappointing as I have been wanting to try this place for a while. I doubt I will be back, or at least try the establishment in the west end. I would always say to someone to try something for themselves before casting an opinion. But I personally wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

This is the most authentic Mexican I've had since being in the UK. I highly recommend you go there and try it for yourself. The tacos are amazing, as are the burritos. Good for sharing with a partner or friends; order a couple of different dishes and share them to see what you like.

Pretty decent mexican grub. Not the cheapest tho. £18 for a burrito and chips isn't the best. Service was a little slow but nice enough.

After being disappointed in another restaurant where they did not let us sit at 8:30 pm, here they treated us from the beginning with a smile, they advised us on the food to order and the atmosphere was unbeatable. We really enjoyed the food which was delicious. We recommend ordering the chicken tinga chimichanga to share and the cheesecake. We also ordered some beef quesadillas and they were delicious. Without a doubt, a great discovery and highly recommended. Thank you Jonathan for your kindness and your recommendations.

Went to the restaurant where the staff treatment towards customer was really bad. The staff said there are no tables available which didn't looked right as there were tables which were not been used by anyone.

What can I say? Never really been into mexican food, went here with group of friends, waitress explained every dish, great service omg presentation is fantastic,taste even better, great deal 2 dishes and rice or fries for £15 worth every penny ♥️try it guaranteed you won't be disappointed A+

The place is probably the best Mexican food in Glasgow merchant city but the highlight is the service and staff Jonathan and Shaun help us soo much navigating the menu even tho we were a bit late , and the extensive help for our friend who had dietary restrictions Food 9/10 Service 15/10 Ambience 8/10

**updated review** Popped in here again yesterday for a late lunch and was met with the same welcome as before and again outstanding service from the staff. I wish I could write a fresh review and bump up the Google score because this place deserves the props. Food was fantastic and fast to the table as always. The service was knowledgeable and friendly with plenty banter and this remains my favourite place to eat in Glasgow, ESPECIALLY because my wife is Coeliac and they are absolutely fantastic at making sure her needs are catered to. If I had a complaint it would be that there isn't one closer to me so that I can go more 😂 …............... *Previous* Absolutely fantastic, rapid service, great quality tasty food, friendly atmosphere, table service is constant even though it was relatively busy, can't sing the praises of this place enough. If you are in glasgow and like mexican food this is the place you are looking for.

The food was delicious, a great variety on the menu and the dishes were quite hearty. We ate very well, shame about the noise from the people who had taken too many cocktails... 😅

My partner and I love a burrito and wanted to give this place a go. Unfortunately it was pretty bad. We each ordered a burrito, one chicken and one beef, and upon their arrival we were instantly disappointed. What we actually received were some sort of wrap. They were tortillas that bad been filled with mediocre ingredients and then pressed flat in a panini press. We also ordered salt and pepper fries, but what we received was a bowl of french fries which has been overcooked from frozen and then salted with basic onion salt. Two drinks were ordered: both draught Fanta, but neither was actually Fanta. The staff were best friendly and efficient and the atmosphere was fine, but the burritos were really quite terrible.

Food is great if you can get in. Front of house service is disgraceful. You may simply be left standing, completely and disdainfully ignored, while others are greeted and served around you. No customer deserves to be treated this rudely. Take your business elsewhere if you want to be treated politely.

If I’m having fake Mexican food, I’d rather go to Taco Bell, at least they’re good. If you’re looking for authentic Mexican food, do NOT come here. They have the right ingredients but have no idea of how to use and combine them. The rice had such a bad flavor I was only able to have one spoonful. Very limited options in menu. An average Mexican like myself would be able to fix their menu so easily. They are only marketing and show, no knowledge or care for food taste.

Tasty food. Plenty to choose from whether a light snack and beer, to a heavier meal. Enjoyed the freshness of the beer, sauces and nosh on offer. Consistent and pleasant staff. Polite and engaging. Fair play!!

Good service, great food for great value.

Having visited the restaurant in St Vincent Street on two previous occasions, I expected to enjoy a further good culinary experience today. However, the visit was spoiled by the waiter’s arrogant attitude and when we asked for dirty glasses to be removed from our table, his response was to the effect of“who do you think you are?“ At that point we left and went to the Indian tapas restaurant, Chakoo, further along the street, where we enjoyed an excellent meal with great service! Pity, because we were looking forward to Topolabamba.

Premium prices without a premium product. Came to this restaurant with friends as they had told me great things so was excited to try it. Unfortunately, I couldn’t help but feel short changed by my visit. Their Margaritas were ok, felt they had been pre-prepared (batched) and then shaken up. The food was ok, but nothing tasted particularly fresh - like it had been microwaved. The Quesadillas were soggy and the Calamari was very salty. The Fish of the Day Taco was overcooked and dry. Our server was very good, friendly and speedy. I did mention the issues I’d faced to them and he did apologise and said he’d pass the feedback on. I feel they could do with adding some lighter options to the menu. I’d also like them to add levels of spiciness to the menu to indicate how spicy things are as some things were overtly spicy compared to the description.

It's not real Mexican, it's Tex Mex. Once I got over my disappointment, food was fine. It was plated beautifully and reasonably priced but they have no idea what a Mexican salsa is and couldn't bring me anything spicy except wing sauce. My partner is American and enjoyed it. I wouldn't go back

Fantastic service, would recommend for the staff alone. The food was great, but the cheesecake was noticeably not great, though we didnt think it warranted a complaint or anything but it was definitely a frozen cheesecake that was recently defrosted... Other than that would highly recommend!

It was absolutely delicious, great variety of vegetarian options and we highly recommend the bloodorange margaritas.

Felt robbed, lucky if the 3 margarita glasses were half full. £35 also !! Staff behind the bar had faces like thunder and not in the least bit interested in taking our order. Only went as I have been to the west end branch and enjoyed both the food & drink but will definitely not return to this venue.

It’s a good Mexican dining experience. They have a variety of options both small and big quantities although the service is ok for 4 people but they are not able to cover for a group of people. Worth trying once!

Mexican hot chocolate was just a regular Cadbury style and the tacos were just warm and soggy. Half of the tortilla foods are flour tortillas. Not much of Mexico going on in here!

This is my second time eating at this restaurant and I thought I would have had delicious food today. When we walked into the restaurant, the waiter made us wait for half an hour, but there were a lot of empty places, which I didn't understand. We went to the restaurant next door for dinner. I would like to say a massive thank you to the staff at Topolabamba, they went above and beyond super service for my mum and I when we visited on Saturday 25 January. My mum has quite a big mobility scooter and she always gets stressed about going to restaurants etc with regard to access. I had put on my booking that we had a scooter and when we arrived the maitre d who showed us to our table had it all thought out, where my mum could put her scooter, the distance to the table and the distance to the disabled toilets. He was very humourous and dealt with my mum very well. Also a massive thank you for the amount of gluten free dishes on offer, my mum is also coeliac. She loved her visit and she rarely gets out anymore so it was a real treat for her. All the staff was amazing and the food top notch.

I don't recommend coming here as the staff ( managers ) are not the friendliest. I was in with my friends for dinner and the manager wouldn't come near our table but was going to everyone else around ours and then the food wasn't the best it felt rubbery and I ended up not eating much because of this.

Absolutely shocking, the server Paul was the only good thing about our experience at this restaurant. My daughter chipped her tooth s there was a bonegoin the chicken burrito I let them know the manager didn't even acknowledge us or apologise, we will not going back again. Very dissapointed at how rude the management where, now I've got to get my daughter a dental appointment for the chipped tooth from the chicken burrito.

Staff and food can't be faulted

I have been to Topolabamba so many times, as it is my favourite place to eat, but last night was exceptional! Organised a surprise dinner for my husbands 40th for a table of 10, the food was excellent and the service was beyond fantastic! Jonathan, our server, is an absolute superstar! Always checking in on us and having excellent banter. And a big thank you to all the staff who came out with the cake and sang Happy Birthday. A perfect wee evening.

5 stars for the staff and the decor. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Food was bland, basic and a million miles away from Mexico. Very disappointed. Most of the dishes tasted the same. Not authentic or exciting in the slightest. Hoping the chef just had a bad day, and we might try it again one time.

Had a Christmas Lunch with 8 people and everything was absolutely wonderful. Food was super tasty, service was amazing, alcohol free cocktail was also super nice. And pre-booking for a big group was easy.

Food was bad. Majority of dishes were microwaved and served 5 minutes after ordering. Went for a varied selection 6-7 dishes. The meat was chewey and rubbery. Cold meat inside of hot pastry. We had been there two years ago and it seems to have went downhill. The staff were lovely and attentive, the vibe and atmosphere were very relaxing and enjoyable. The drinks were pretty nice, good cocktails. However, it’s just not enough to make up for the food

No availability for walk Ins at 4pm on a Sunday poor planning. Blunt staff member simply told us no tables while restaurant was more than half empty ridiculous.

Everything was great. The service is very busy but they managed to get everything really fast. I recommend you to get the beef taquitos as they were amazing as well as some frozen margaritas. The only thing that didn't enjoy as much was the nachos and the sauces as some felt a bit too watery.

Great tasting food. It is great that the tacos, taquitos and tostadas are made with white corn. We loved the crab tostadas and habanero chicken wings. The only thing is that the roasted salsa brava was very bland - it didn't seem to have any chilli on it, it was more like a tomato pasta sauce. Other than that, all was very nice and close to authentic Mexican food.

Always INCREDIBLE food. Been coming here for years and never been let down. Tried the cauli wings for the first time and my husband was obsessed with them, so crispy but nice and soft on the outside. My faves will always be the steak taco and queso - literally crave it so bad sometimes. Staff are always lovely and the atmosphere is always brilliant.

Food is amazing, there's a cheese fondue that you should probably leave for 5 mins as it's actually hotter than lava, but once it cools it's divine. Also, get a coconut white Russian, it'll change how you see the world.

Really good and unique selection of food. The Beef Quesidallas are highly recommended! Staff were very helpful. And the food came out very fast.

First time visiting as I had wanted to try Topolabamba for a long time. The mini honey tacos were absolutely amazing as was the black pudding and chorizo dip with nachos. Thoroughly enjoyed every bit and will be returning again.

Best Mexican I've had in the UK

First impression, I was doubtful as taken to a couch that was all ripped! But was pleasantly surprised Staff very helpful and pointed out we could have some of our dishes on the lunch meal with add dish Food was delicious and straight to the table which meant pipping hot Would definitely visit again

incredible food, drinks, and service! i got the express menu with the chicken taquitos and beef quesadilla and everything was amazing! got the tortillas chips with salsa brava to start and finished with the horchata ice cream. also had the strawberry and mango virgin margaritas which were fantastic! couldn’t recommend more for fast service, great food, and a colourful, welcoming atmosphere!

Cool place. Nice staff. Definitely not authentic. I'm Mexican and live in a country that doesn't have any taco places, so I was excited for some tacos. They were tacos but didn't taste like what I came for. The "Mole" was a phad tai peanut sauce which was super confusing and there were fillings in the tacos I wouldn't have expected to see in a traditional plate of street tacos or ordered or wanted. Honestly couldn't tell which taco was the carne asada but I ordered all of them. The food was alright and the price wasn't bad. Just not what I came for and not what I wanted. It didn't scratch my itch I guess is what I'm saying. If you've never had real tacos from a truck before I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

We had dinner about 19:30 by 23:00 we were all sick 🤢🤢🤢. In the bathroom throwing up. Do not eat at this place.

Had an amazing lunch introducing my mum to the wonders of Mexican street food - reasonably priced food to be shared, excellent guacamole, and such good churros! And an honourable mention to our server Cameron who was simply the best!

Definitely be careful what you order! I missed the 4-chilli-rating on the cauliflower wings, due to a rushed second order, and accidentally blew my head off! 🤯🥵🌶 The taquitos are also very small - definitely entree sized! Quesadillas were nice; my brother had the beef. And my mum ordered a chicken burrito, which was a decent size but didn't pack much flavour. Servers are lovely! Not sure if the food is as good as the hype though!

I came here with my partner for dinner fairly late on. This was not a bother to the staff they welcomed us warmly we were seated by the window in a very nicely dimly lit area which was very intimate. We ordered off the big boys section getting burritos which were amazing. We had chips on the side to share and drinks. This was another amazing visit definitely will be back

Oh my god. The food here is par excellence! We had the queso (which I will be dreaming about for days), the chicken chimichanga & the fish tacos, which were all 🤌🏼🤌🏼🤌🏼🤌🏼. Annie, Shawn & Martha (and the rest of the team) took such great care of us and made our first meal in Glasgow worthwhile.

Arrived solo for a spot of lunch. Never visited before. I asked for a table for 1 and the chap on the door gave me a nod as though to follow him. He took me to a quiet table in the corner set for 2, and cleared away the second setting and left. Not a word was spoken. A waitress then came to take my order and it arrive ridiculously quick. I had literally ordered my meal, replied to a text and 2 dishes appeared and were announced,even although I ordered 3. I sat for 5 minutes trying to catch someone to ask where the missing quesadilla was, then another waiter arrived with it. I don’t understand why things aren’t served all together or why there wasn’t a “your quesadilla will just be a moment” 20 minutes into my meal a table started to appear beside me of 20/25 young adults. They were rather loud and had no consideration for anyone in the restaurant, ordering a ridiculous amount of drinks ( 2 beers, shots and cocktails per person) one guy ordered a bucket with 8 coronas in it! This is irresponsible to serve this amount of drinks to a party in such a “hingin not even been to sleep” state. One of the females in the party kept repeating she was “baked” and the rest of the party were “letting her cook” clearly under the influence of more than a spicy margarita! The staff member who didn’t utter 2 words clocked her having a drink and told her she would be asked to leave if saw having alcohol. He cleared my plates and asked if I would like to be relocated but I was put off ordering another drink by this point and just asked for my bill. Customers in that state, or behaving that way should not be allowed entry. Further more why would you sit a solo diner beside such a large party when there was other areas of the restaurant unoccupied?!

Exemplary service from our server Cameron, who was very knowledgeable about the menu, which was important as 2 people at our table are Coeliac. He even checked our drinks were suitable which was very reassuring. We were so impressed that there were lots of gluten free options. Well done Topolabamba!

A modern take on mexica street food. I go here often. My one complaint is their beer selection is V limited. Not a problem if you're not a beer drinker!

Topolabamba, what can I say. I have visited both the Edinburgh restaurant and this one in Glasgow and both were thoroughly enjoyed, but Glasgow's shines just that little bit brighter in my opinion! Fantastic, tasty, spicy food. Excellent price for the express lunch menu and would honestly feed two! Restaurant is themed and atmospheric, it was quite busy around lunch time but plenty of seating tucked away. The customer service was top notch, friendly chat offered. We ended up leaving a tip on top of the service charge, we were well taken care of. We will certainly be back for another here. Thanks for a great lunch.

We came here around 8.30 after the cinema. We weren't too hungry so shared 3 small plates between the two of us. They were all really nice and washed down with a beer. I would come here again. Reasonably priced.

I have eaten in many Mexican restaurants and this is the least Mexican thing that comes close to it, food of very poor quality and nothing processed is artisanal. The attention and decoration is good.

The food is not delicious, the rice seemed plastic, the quesadillas were very processed, I was very disappointed. The place is very nice and the service is good, the only redeeming feature.

A great night had at Topolabamba, food was amazing, service was great and the atmosphere relaxed. The only downside was the barman shouting for drinks to be picked up, memo to self, don't sit by the bar!

If you're looking for a delicious Mexican in Glasgow, you've come to the right place. We chose 4 Mexican tapas and the nachos with guacamole and were thrilled. We've had Mexican food before, but rarely as good as here. Unfortunately, I only have to deduct a star for the service, as no one felt responsible for ordering and paying for dessert. We would still come back.

We were in Glasgow for a concert and fancied some Margaritas and Mexican food. Having read the reviews, Topolabamba seemed like a safe bet so we pre-booked as it was a Saturday evening. Unfortunately everything about it was disappointing. First off, the basic Margaritas (we had Classic on the rocks and a frozen mango) tasted like a pre-made mix (like you’d expect in Slug & Lettuce or Wetherspoons). They arrived far too quickly to have been made from scratch, and were served in tumblers, not Margarita glasses, and we weren’t given the choice of salted or unsalted rim - they came unsalted. I then ordered a Deluxe Margarita at twice the price. When it eventually arrived after a mis/non communication between our server and the bar which meant I had to re-order, it was actually not bad - served in the correct glass, salted rim and tasted like it had been made from scratch with the proper ingredients. The food was very ‘samey’, dry and unremarkable - most likely pre-made or frozen. Certainly nothing about any of the five dishes we ordered would entice me back again. Presentation left a lot to be desired - the food looked like it had been chucked onto the plates in a hurry. We obviously hit ‘unlucky’ with our server who was disinterested to say the least and appeared totally unsurprised when we asked for the 10% discretionary service charge to be removed from the bill. Perhaps she was just having a bad day. If you’re looking for good frozen Margaritas in Glasgow that cost less than a tenner, I recommend the Bier Halle. They serve decent food too!

Great Mexican food and fun decor. I recommend sharing multiple dishes amongst people as the portions are smaller, so you can try out various dishes. There were many dishes I had yet to see in other restaurants. It was an excellent experience overall!

The food was so dry. We ordered quite a few plates to share. We ordered the chicken taquitos and we honestly could not finish them. Overpriced and bland.

The place is so nicely decorated it really gets you in the mood. The food is really authentic! I loved the flavors, I ordered the burrito and I thought it wouldn't be spicy as normally maxican places adjust their flavors to european taste but this one was the real thing. Honestly the best Burrito I’ve ever had, fantastic service, great atmosphere and don’t get me started on the Margaritas, absolute heaven, 1000% recommend!!!
