Mezcal in Glasgow City

TASTY food!!! Poor service, staff obviously on off day. Order a few plates to share. Unfortunately, waitress had no interest in us/helping out. We left hungry as we were a later booking and was told kitchen was closed after we ordered our tacos each. I think if we were told about the menu we would’ve ordered more and tried more but felt a bit disappointed and dismissed. What we did order was amazing so please give it a try but order a few plates! (Maybe we’re extra hungry who knows…) We will be back, hopefully a better experience and will order more delicious food!

Great food, served quickly. Decent lager on tap. Cocktails were okay but a bit expensive. Food was pretty cheap though. The corn and the chorizo taquitos were delicious. Staff were friendly and professional.

Came for a birthday meal and had a great experience. Was served by a lovely guy named Andy who was super friendly and was going above and beyond to make sure we had a great time. Food and drinks were delish and service was fab

Me and my partner were dining at Mezcal a few times and we thought it's the best Mexican place in Glasgow until tonight... Mostly becouse of the female Server which presumed to be a Manager. From the very start she haven't even pretend to smile, just dropped off the food in a hurry to sit down back to her laptop, when it came to payment I was literally counting cash to pay for the bill as she asked me twice if I need a card machine. Me and my partner both work in hospitality so we always tip well and we were considering to leave a personal tip for the male server which was constantly closing the door for the draft not to come to the restaurant which was very much appreciated, but we were unsure if he would be able to keep it. As he was very busy serving most of the tables we didn't had a chance to ask him if it is a possibility and the "Manager" lady was so pushy to get the money we decided not to bother, put our jackets on and leave when she came back to slam the change back at the table. First but very big disappointed, it's gonna take us a while to come back.

Drinks were class. Food was class. Our server Caitlin was amazing. Definitely will be back.

Really enjoyed our visit The lunch deal was great value and vegan options were tasty. Excellent customer service too. Will definitely visit again and recommend.

Caitlin served us for my friends birthday and went above and beyond with a candle for us. We were there on a Wednesday so not super busy. Food was very colourful and came out really fast. Overall pretty good but lacked seasoning for my personal tastes.

Love it here been a couple times and each time the food has been amazing, so quick to come out. Had the chicken y pollo quesadilla and the birria tacos with consumé and omg, delicious. Highly recommend getting rice as a side with your birria so you can pour the remainder of the consumé in the rice it's so tasty and doesn't waste a drop 😂 Strawberry mezcal cocktail is the ONE. The churros are also amazing 😍

Service was poor, they got the drink orders wrong and we ordered food to the table that never arrived even though we asked for it. The table wasn’t cleaned before we sat down and had pieces of beef, sauce and was sticky from previous customer. The dirty glasses were not taken from the table so much so that we had six sitting on our table by the end of the meal. We were left with an empty table and dirty glasses but nobody asked if we wanted any more food or drinks or cleaned our table. We sat waiting for a dish that we ordered that never came out for over 20 minutes until we gave up. This was the first time we have been to mescal and will likely be the last which is a shame because we were celebrating a birthday, therefore this definitely damped the mood.

We just had a lunch, very tasty beef tacos, average giacamole nachos and good kids chicken nuggets.

Great find for Mexican food in Glasgow. I was pleasantly surprised by the decor of the place, uniquely curated artwork from South America/ Mexico. One of the few places I’ve visited that has a wide range of hot sauces, only making the meal more memorable. I had the pulled pork burrito, which was outstanding, but give the menu a shot, I’m sure they will impress!

Honestly have no words for how good the food is! The service from the moment we walked in was amazing the selection is perfect! Only issue is the pitchers they’re VERY pricey for the amount you get but other than that it’s an incredible little place to try and we’d happily come back again because there’s nothing to fault in the place the beef tacos are honestly one of the best we’ve ever had! ❤️

Fish tacos are not good, good choice of drinks, nice burritos and great atmosphere. Good manager who compensated for a member of staff.

Second time here. First time was years ago just for drinks and had poor but adequate service. This time we had food and it was delicious. Again, service poor. Went through the motions and got our food with no problems, fine. No check backs, no offers of more drinks…pretty basic. Enjoyed the food so much that we told the person clearing our plates (who I sadly feel may have been a/the manager) and he literally said “yeah yeah yeah” with a hint of a smile. Take the praise. Will return but might return the compliments or tip (that we weren’t thanked for).

Incredible cocktails (definitely try the mezcal versions!) And really good food, big portions and amazing flavours. Great value for money. Service was also great, friendly staff (especially the guy behind the bar) most of the menu is gluten free and menu items are indicated if not gluten free which is amazing!

Great location and different enough to succeed with Mezcal as a spirit growing in popularity! We had a pretty disappointing experience. We arrived for drinks only to a pretty empty restaurant and were served by a waiter who didn’t like or know anything about mezcal! Which is fine in most cases, but I feel like a base understanding of the menu and what was popular would’ve been helpful. We ordered a couple of drinks and got a water jug but the glasses it came with both had unwashed bits of lime all on the inside which the dishwasher just likely had not got out! We didn’t then see a waiter for 30 minutes to ask about new glasses or the an update on drinks so eventually left. There was a general sense that the staff were mostly students who didn’t really care about the establishment so Mezcal felt like a lost opportunity. We never got a chance to order food so no comment on that front.

This was an itison deal. The frozen margaritas were delicious in particular the lime. The guacamole was decent but there wasn't enough of it for all the nachos. The loaded fries were cracking. Loved them! The birria had a great flavour but the meat was a bit chewy. The carne asada was as I expected, good flavour & texture. Tacos did fall apart somewhat as others have said. Staff were a bit hit & miss. Didn't offer the ice cream which was supposed to be included as a dessert option. The churros were unfortunately a disaster, very oily & greasy which is not how they are supposed to be. With a few tweaks this place could be great though. It definitely got the right sort of colourful Mexican vibe. It was Friday, the 18th of August from just before 5pm.

Service was poor. Upon arrival and during our visit, the staff were not welcoming. My wife spoke to a member of staff when we arrived. The staff member walked away when my wife was still talking to ask her question. so rude! However we've heard great things about the food. The kitchen clearly doing a great job as the food was excellent. we had the Taquitos and Luch Libre chicken burrito. we also had a mountain of Tortilla chips with not enough guacamole. cocktails very over priced.

We went in for food with my friend and the food was absolutely delicious. The prices were reasonably good and drinks were so nice. The place was also stunningly. Definitely will visit again soon.

Really great experience. Fantastic food and fun atmosphere. We were served by Brandon who was fantastic the whole way through. Especially enjoyed the one winged bat hanging above the hot plate.

honestly when we came here yesterday we knew the food was going to be amazing just by looking at the chefs’ faces in the back and it didn’t disappoint, this was our first time trying this place out and it’s certainly my new favourite mexican restaurant, strongly recommend the chilli cheese fries, chicken tinga enchiladas and the pulled beef burrito!

Myself and my partner arrived at our reservation which we thought was at 7.30pm, we arrived on time but were then told that our reservation was actually booked from 7pm, so a mistake on our end. However we felt that the waitress that showed us to our table was visibly annoyed that we had shown up late (again, our mistake) but then sharply telling us that we had only 45 minutes to sit down, order, eat and go. We were made to feel slightly uncomfortable by arriving late, and therefore we very quickly decided what to eat and drink in a few minutes to avoid any more comments from the waitress. The food was great, no faults there! Overall a slightly ruined experience based on the service from this waitress, who might need to work on her people skills when serving customers as we were made to feel awkward and uncomfortable and as if she wanted us to leave. We would have let the staff know about this at the end of our meal, however when we asked for the bill, at no point did the waiter ask us how the food was or if everything was okay, and again when he delivered the bill, we were not asked how everything was and were just hastily presented with the card machine with no questions asked. We could hear the couple behind us also complaining about this waiters lack of customer service as well so we were not the only ones with this experience. Won’t be back in a hurry which is a shame as the food is great!

Been wanting to try this place for a while, It didn't disappoint. It was completely full when we got there but the food still came out rapid which was impressive. All the food was great and I'd never tried sopes before which were nice but the lamb tacos are absolutely bananas good! Also there's a a good variety of gluten free options which was extremely handy.

A great wee dinner stop, with friendly service. Have the home made guacamole and tortilla chips whilst you're waiting for your meal to arrive. Our mains were a decent size, full of great ingredients. I'd recommend using all the sauces to add some 'ooomph'. The frozen Margherita was lush, and whilst the beers are small (schooner size), water is provided at the table. I'll be back to try the loaded fries. They looked too big as a side for one, but enough for two to share.

Absolutely amazing food. All of our dishes were so tasty and the margaritas and sodas too. Really reasonable prices and lovely chatty, friendly service. Good came really quickly. Super-kitsch décor. We enjoyed it so much.

Absolutely 100% authentic Mexican tacos. Thank you for bringing Mexico to Scotland. Mexican approved! (My wife). I only wish they played Banda or reggaeton on the speakers 😁

Food is good. Pissed up family in the middle of the restaurant ruined the atmosphere but not the restaurant fault. Service good and friendly.. imagine there’s a phrase between DECENT and AMAZING.. Mezcal is that.

Very good service, food was served quickly as I requested. Ordered the chorizo tacos and it was watery. A pile of mashed black beans and liquidy chorizo on top. I was hungry so ate in a rush and left. I was feeling ill the rest of the day. Vomited in the middle of the night. Something was not right with the food. It was on Friday, 14 July 2023.

The staff at Mezcal are so friendly and attentive. I went there on a Saturday night, around 8pm. So, it was busy. The atmosphere was lively. The margaritas were amazing. I had mezcal subbed because its smokey and good! I had a classic and a mezcal mule. The food came out super fast and was absolutely delicious. For starters, tortilla chips and quac, then for mains I had the birria quesadilla and OMG, it was fabulous, im still thinking about the food!! Will definitely be coming back soon😉

Not for romantic dates. But the food is great.

Tacos came soaked in water, disintegrated in my hand when I picked one up. Guacamole was bland, tasted as if they just stepped on an avocado and forgot to season it. After 40 minutes just as I just finished eating, I was handed the bill without asking for it in a “polite” way to telling me to get out.

Great wee place food was fab, a tad slow serving drinks overall great dinner.

As soon as we got inside it literally had such an authentic Mexican smell, the food was absolutely amazing. I've never had such good tacos outside of Mexico. Cocktails were also spot on. Highly recommend the mango and basil margarita.

Food was okay but the service was diabolical! Firstly, they got my order wrong and brought something completely different to the table and didn’t even apologise or acknowledge the mistake. Secondly, they prepared my correct order and left it under the lamp for 5 minutes whilst the staff were stood around it chatting to each other and not bothering to do anything. the restaurant was completely empty so they had no excuse. When I asked for the bill at the end the staff member, who looked to be a manager, didn’t even communicate with me as if i’d done something horrifically wrong. Will not be returning! 😡

Very nice place, the birria and the pastor taco here do resemble the Mexican flavour, which is usually absent in most burrito joints in Glasgow. Props to the kitchen!

This was a great experience! The food was so delicious and authentic Mexican. The young man who served us was so friendly and never stopped smiling. Great place, lively atmosphere and great value!

Had tacos and the flavors were fantastic! Only downside was that the tortillas didn’t hold - probably because they were sitting too long to be served. Other than that, it’s a really cool place and the frozen margaritas are delicious!

Amazing tacos and margaritas 🤤 plus cool place and friendly servers. I would come back anytime. Very authentic Mexican. We had the guac, pineapple pico, carne asada, lamb birria, and street corn. We drank the mezcal classic marg and pineapple chili marg, both were top notch. Everything was amazing. Do not sleep on the street corn!!!!

Laid back place with sun trap in the evening. Fantastic staff, great drinks, decent food (choose tacos over sopes)

Asked for a fajita, got a burrito. Asked for hot salsa, got no salsa. Asked for guacamole, got no guacamole. Had to get burrito warmed up as it was not hot inside. I requested salsa, and got a watery version of spicy tomato ketchup. There was no trace of coriander/cilantro. Owner needs to get back in the kitchen and give staff training and ingredients to make Mexican food. I didn't get Mexican food. Wish i could rate it negative stars.

The list authentic Mexican food I’ve had outside of Mexico! Margaritas are beautiful, service is great - they catered to a large group of us for my boyfriend’s birthday with ease. Good value as well. Can’t wait to go back!

Didn’t get a good impression from the moment we walked in. After sitting for 15 mins unattended we had to ask a waiter if we could actually order some food & drinks. Drinks took that long that we had all of our food, starters & mains before they arrived. Food wasn’t terrible but was very bland, considering we ordered a chicken taco, fish taco, mince & chorizo burrito and lamb quesadilla you’d expect a big difference in flavours but unfortunately not. Service was generally poor & staff more interested in looking cool than looking after customers. We weren’t asked if we wanted any other drinks after our food and still had to wait 10/15 mins for the bill having asked twice. Could understand if the restaurant was full & staff were run off their feet. Had high hopes but unlikely to return.

Recently made my 4th visit to Mezcal, has been great on every previous occasion but service wasn’t great this time. - Staff were polite, when they interacted with us, but they seemed to be going out of their way to avoid dealing with customers. - Not long after being served food, a member of staff asked to clear the table when we were obviously still eating. But strange, and when we said we were stilling eating they stormed off. - After finishing and piling plates up, we sat with dirty dishes for nearly 20 minutes while staff chatted behind the bar and slowly cleaned glasses. - We wanted to order more drinks but were unable to get anyone’s attention. - Dirty glasses were overcrowding the bar when we arrived and only got busier as the night went on, until a couple fell and smashed. Pretty rubbish experience all round, but I’m putting it down to a bad night or too few staff. Will venture back at some point in future and hope to have a meal similar to previous experiences. Very big fan of the changing selection of frozen margaritas and the food is brilliant.

One of the best mexican eateries outside of the country itself. The vibes are immaculate, the decor is stunning, the drinks are cheap and the food is amazing. Whenever anyone asks me what I want to eat in Glasgow this is always a solid go to, especially if you like the namesake!

Visited for the first time with my 9 year old yesterday. Tremendous food. Lovely setting and atmosphere and great value for money. Tacos al Pastor didn't disappoint and my girl loved her pork taco and mocktail. Can't wait to come back.

Me and friend ate here last night. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was top notch.

Magnificent food and tasty sodas (I recommend the Guava drink!) Our server was really helpful and arranged for the chef to alter my meal to better suit my tastes which I massively appreciated and we both really enjoyed our meals. One minor issue: we were placed at a table which wasn't suitable for my wheelchair so I had to get out, fold it up and squash it behind me which was awkward however I expect if we'd asked to be moved, it wouldn't have been a problem. We would happily return!

Absolute waste of time. I couldn’t leave soon enough. The restaurant was filthy , with rubbish and dirty cutlery under appliances. Staff had zero ability to serve guests as they where to busy being on their phones and getting behind the bar to get a corona for themselves. A please and thank you also not a part of their vocabulary. You were left feeling like an inconvenience to them . The only redeeming quality was the food which was decent. But rather then ordering more we left due to being made uncomfortable. Real shame as the reviews everywhere else seemed brilliant.

Food was mediocre at best, but within half an hour I was sweating and stuck in the toilet. Now feeling incredibly ill and may have to cancel my gig tickets for the night.

Wow! visited this place last night after searching for a Mexican restaurant in Glasgow and it did not disappoint! The pics of the restaurant and food looked amazing so we tried it. What an amazing atmosphere and I love all the low lights and neons. The staff were all very happy and friendly, the food took no time to come out and when it did it looked perfect. Lots of various hot sauces on the table to spice it up and if you like and the food itself was amazing. I had dirty chilli fries with a mix of chicken and spinach & potato enchiladas and would highly recommend it. Definitely a 10/10 💯

Loved the food, went with an itison voucher but bought other things on the menu, decent size portions and didn't need to wait long for the food to come.

Food was great and staff were very helpful, especially as I was on my own with two children. Possibly the best burrito I have had and tortilla chips and guacamole were excellent too. Already thinking of going back. Oh, and kids eat for free at lunch time. Will book next time as it is very busy, and rightly so.

Best mexican restaurant I have been to in Glasgow. Loaded nachos with chilli were fantastic and the fish tacos were brilliant. Staff were very friendly, I highly recommend this place.

Super tasty food, really nice decor only downside it the chairs are uncomfy but that's all. Bonus points for offering a kids menu. We had the birria quesadillas which didn't disappoint, chicken taquitos and churros for the dessert.

The restaurant has a lot of success so it's better to reserve in advance. The atmosphere and ambiance is really nice. They have special cocktails that can be fun to test. The food is quite good and the prices are honest. Overall a good restaurant !

Service sporadic. We waited around 20 minutes before being asked if we wanted a drink. Food okay-not authentic Mexican, but to be fair the restaurant only claim to be 'Mexican inspired.' So the rating is based mainly on the service and food just okay.

The food was good, we were the only ones in the restaurant at the start of lunch so I cannot comment on the atmosphere. Service was fast and the staff were nice. I'd drop in for a quick bite, but the portions are not particularly large so I'd not make a dinner out of it.

Mezcal seems to have decent quality Mexican food for a good price, however allergy safety is not up to standard. I placed an order with uber eats which lists a couple of their burritos a gluten free, including the chicken tinga burrito. As a coeliac I was really excited about this, as all you with a gluten free diet out there know, it's super difficult to find a decent gf tortilla wrap, when I opened this up it looked too good to be true - really floury wrap! A few bites in and I realised this must be a wheat flour wrap. Wasn't able to eat my food and was left in bad pain for the rest of the night. This is so important and I hope mezcal takes precautionary measures about this in the future - coeliac is a serious allergy!

The food was absolutely stunning!! I had the Birria Consume and the flavours were amazing and my friends and I really enjoyed it. The portions were slightly small and a bit expensive. I would recommend for like a nice meal but it could be slightly more budget friendly

We dined here at 4pm on a Wednesday and it was not busy at this time but within an hour Mezcal got really busy so I would advise maybe booking a table especially at peak times. The decor of the place is nice and vibrant and the waiter staff are nice and friendly. I had the pulled pork burrito which was a good size portion and delicious. Also ordered was the chicken tinga enchilada with tomato salsa sauce and this went down a treat. We got the chicken tinga lucca libre style burrito which was a big serving and lovely. We tried the churros with chocolate dipping sauce. All in all this Is a lovely little restaurant and if you love Mexican and really good food then this is worth a visit! We will be back.

Excellent. Spinach tacos especially good. My nan was bouncing after a few frozen Margheritas. Churros freshly made and still warm.

My son took me this afternoon for my birthday, we had a mix of food,fish taco was nice but the cocktails were nicer.churros are class,probably best churro I've had .staff are lovely. Lovely place
