Had a small fish dinner (fish, chips and peas) for £7.50 and also ordered a fish £7.20 and a large portion of chips for £4.30. Think these are correct prices but, prices seem to be increasing every time we go. Fish is always cooked to order and fish and is tasty (average size fish) but the chips are hit and miss. Sometimes they are very fresh and tasty other times, they feel reheated, or been standing their ages and are dry. Last time the chips were very dry. If fish is cooked to order, surely chips can also be cooked fresh to order as well. The small fish dinner is good value but overall very hit and miss and not cheap anymore. I would give it a 3 out of 5. We will still return in the future but not as often.

Excellent chippy, first time we’ve been and I’ll be returning, excellent food & customer service and friendly staff , our first impression was excellent, great price and quality product and packaging, and we were asked when we walked in if we wanted any fish cooking which I thought was great as it saves you ordering it at the counter so speeds up your experience ,spotlessly clean chippy we were so impressed,I’ve told my friends and family too who will be visiting many thanks .

Had my fav fish and chips from this chip shop today, usually very, very nice, but disappointed in today's fish, first mouth full I had three fish bones swallowed one of them, secondly when i have a batter coverd fish, I like the batter more, but it barely had any batter on it today. What happened today is not what it is usually like, don't know why.!

You need to start accepting cards. Find it odd these days and inconvenient. I tend not to use it as much as I would like to because I carry little cash.

Amazing tasty food and presentation but c’mon folks cash only in 2023! It’s really annoying and not a great impression.

Wonderful chippy (and it's our local to boot!) The fish is always excellent and there is a good choice of other items from sausage to pies to kebabs. We use the chippy quite regularly and it never disappoints. Just be aware that it is cash only. There is an ATM in the Co-op almost next door.

Disappointed, after a break of a few weeks took the opportunity to try out again, now that prices have gone up. Fish ok, but chips stale and hard, and pathetic portion. Think we'll leave it for a while.

Fabulous chippy. Not just the best in Sandbach but the best I know. Staff are super friendly. Portions generous. Chips excellent. Not gritty or soggy like some places who don’t like to change the oil as often. There’s often a queue out the door for a reason.

Used to be amazing! Queuing out of the door most nights….now I’m surprised it’s still open, very poor food, often cold and terrible service. Avoid at all cost.

Called in for evening takeaway,ordered mini fish special with curry £7.00 &chips & gravy £2.50 toldcash only so had too go & get cash then was charged £10.80 ??? I just didn’t think at the time my fault, I was then asked where do I want my gravy ? On my chips please, then I get my order home mini fish special ok but chips & gravy with no gravy,phone up attitude mistakes happen ????

Love this chippy, it’s the best in sandbach, lovely clean shop, very helpful and friendly staff and amazing fresh tasty food. Very reasonable prices too. I work in catering and am very choosy where I eat but highly recommend this place.

We visited top of the hill chippy for a memory - we lost our nan 20/12/21 and one of her favourite meals was the fish, chip and curry meal deal she loved it every Sunday tea. We held nans funeral on 6/1/22 at Wheelock church but with our daughter being just 11yrs old we didn't want to distroy her lovely memories of nan so we treated her to nans favourite meal from her favourite place. And it was just as good as it always is. They don't let you down.

I find the best way to rate a chippy is on the freshness of the fish and Top of the Hill gets it right every time. Fresh succulent fish cooked to order and the batter is light and crisp. The chips/ mushy peas also great. Lovely staff too! What's not to like? :-)

Talk about top of the hill ….. more like going “DOWN HILL” and fast!!!!! Not what is used to be, he’s playing catch up to the chippy on the common which is by far superior , He’s even resorted to putting up bill boards up around Sandbach to drum up business as his business is clearly suffering. I think the lack of business means his food is stood for long periods of time and drying out. Terrible shame really because they used to queue of the door most nights at this place.

Some nights you just fancy old school fish and chips like you remember from summer holidays. This is exactly where these transport you. Proper fresh fish, cooked to order. A choice of portion size. Freshly cooked chips, again with a choice of portion size. We’ve been a couple of times and the standard seems consistently good. Nice friendly staff too.

On travelling back from a family weekend away the car was full of all ages and all hungry, so we found top of the hill chip shop, staff were very friendly and helpful we ordered fish , sausage chips peas gravy and two kinds of curry mozzarella sticks the list goes no so much choice it was all cooked fresh and was fantastic we will go back again this will be our chippy from now on . Passing through Sandbach at lunchtime feeling very hungry. Found this place on google maps so went for it as it had parking outside. Pie was standard fayre (good) & chips were very good.

Went here for the first time, instead of my usual chippy as I was in the area around dinner time. Ordered the sausage special, which is what I normally have at Neptune's in Crewe. Price at Top of the hill chippy is £3.90 and only £2.90 at Neptune's plus, although it's in a bigger tray than Neptune's, there was less chips in there as they spread them out to cover the bottom of the tray. So to sum it up, a quid dearer and less food than my usual. However, they do offer a choice of hot or mild curry sauce which Neptune's don't.

This used to be a decent chippy, sadly not so anymore. Recently went with daughter, fish in breadcrumbs was over cooked, chips undercooked and what is it with the bitter tasting illuminous mushy peas, gross! I really loved proper mushy peas but for the first time in my life I had to bin them, I don't know what was added to make them bitter with such an unnatural colour. A fish and chip shop that cannot cook fish or chips, go figure!

When one is a Yorkshire man and not in Yorkshire buying fish and chips can be depressing - not so at the Top of the Hill!

My husband and I visited top of the hill chippy tonight no one spoke to us although they spoke to people they knew. 5 staff were serving we waited 20 minutes to be ignored then left. Awful service rude staff

The prices represent good value and there is a very wide choice of fish, pies and other delicacies such as battered fried haggis which I,d not seen outside of Scotland. The chips were passable but the cod was fresh and an ample portion. Very nice staff who are friendly and advise on the menu choices. A 7/10. Will intend to revisit next time I pass Congleton

Absolute terrible chips, very cold and dry. All his prices are wrong on his board. Please be careful and add up yourself off his price list as his prices in the till are a lot more!!!! Terrible customer service from the owner. Chippy on the common is 10 times better.

It’s one of the better ones in Sandbach. Good quality food, decent sized portions. Good selection and pleasant staff.

Not just your standard chippy. This is the best in Sandbach and, I suspect, the best for some distance. Fish is always fresh and fried off perfectly with light batter. Definately not the stodge of some places. Always plenty of transits outside over lunch and those guys know their chips!

Having had to call to Sandbach late on we decided to call in to Top of the Hill on our way home. Quick and friendly service and a really clean shop. Delighted with our food and will be calling again

By far my favourite chippy. Absolutely delicious chips, sausage, fish (which is huge), gravy, curry and peas. They cook the fish fresh, and the chips are also very fresh. Never had a bad meal from here. Does get busy, and sometimes there can be a bit of a wait, but thats the price you pay for a popular chippy that makes the food at the time rather than making loads and it just sitting there. In terms of the actual price, it's very reasonable for the amount you get!

Visit every Friday. Fantastic food , huge portions. Very friendly staff and immaculate kitchen/shop. Credit to the people that run it. Best chip shop in Cheshire!!!!!

I'm new to the area and picked up fish and chips on our first night in the new house. Both the cod and the chips were first rate and the staff were all friendly too. I'll definitely be back, cannot understand the bad reviews.

Went just as they were closing and had the best fish and chips (with peas) I've had in a long time. Staff always cheerful even at the end of a shift!!

Not a bad chippy , some times you will find chips are awful and cooked up, but most times you go food is cooked fresh , if you order large chips don't reallly get a good portion but otherwise not bad, prices aren't too bad as long as they stay that way.

I use this fish and chip shop frequently and I have never been disappointed! I always enjoy the food no matter what I have, never too greasy like some places can be and the food is great value for money. The owners are friendly and there's always service with a smile :) I recommend this chippy all the time to family and friends and they love it too! Best chippy around.

My local "chippy". Fish and chips always taste fresh, and nice. However sometimes can be layered in grease, and I often get salt and vinegar- even when I ask not for it.

We buy a takeaway here 5/6 times a year (Xmas eve was most recent) and have never been disappointed. Fish always freshly cooked and tasty as are the chips. Staff friendly and efficient. Recommended +++++++++++

The worst takeaway ever. Uneatable. Just bought 3 fish and chips and sausage and chips. The chips were soaked in grease as were the fish. Had to throw away. I hear from talking to others that this is avoided by many since the previous owners sold up.

Tasty chips, crispy and moist fish. Kebab a little small but tasty none the less. Well worth a visit.

Without doubt I t used to be the best chippie in Sandbach a few years ago, but it changed hands. I am just eating my chips peas & gravy lunch - I am crunching grit as I eat the chips and the peas are like bullets. Virtually I nedible. Only given one star because I couldn't give zero stars. What a shame. Is it an off day? Or is it like this all the time?

Often pop in on the way home for fish & chips. Sometimes chips are excellent, other times so much fat I am unable to eat them. Fish is always good though. Depending when you go will depend how long you wait to get served.

We usually have chips on Friday at work .. just started to use this chip shop excellent kebabs and the fish are nice also ..always had a friendly welcome when we have been and you are able to phone your order through so it's ready for collection which we find really convenient. .

Used to be the best chippy for miles around. Went down hill, so to speak, after original owners packed it in. Pleasantly surprised as to the standard going back up again now. Can sometimes tell they use old chicken kebab meat, a bit expensive for fish. Nice spicey option for chipshop curry. Can depend on who serves you as to the portions you get.Worth a drop in if your passing and hungry for a chippy dinner.

Fish and chips are always good and the staff friendly. Never have to wait long as they always have enough staff on. Peas are particularly good.

Yesterday I ordered fish and chips for partner and a chicken tikka kebab for me. I had not eaten all day previous to the kebab. Today I have had to have a day off work with food poisoning as I have had sickess and diarrhea all through the night. I suspect the chicken was undercooked or a food handling / cleanliness issue. NOT IMPRESSED!

There are not that many top class fish and chips around these days - but this is one one of them. A bit expensive - but remember you get what you pay for so for a real treat fish and chips treat it's worth the money.

I was told by people in Alsager that this was the best chippy for miles. They weren't wrong, You don't find many chip shops like this anymore that have long opening hours.

Fish and chips can never really go too wrong... unless it's busy. The fish was nice, but the chips were soggy and tasteless. If they just spent a little more time caring, and a little less time running around like a headless chicken, then this hippie would be perfect!

This chip shop consistently delivers good quality and tasty fish and chips with a choice of fish (some need requesting when ordering). The burgers and kebabs are also very good. The staff are friendly and helpful and there is parking in front of the shop.Away from the coast it would be hart to beat.

There can be an element of luck with fish and chip shops often depending upon how long the food has been cooked. Our last visit (and we have never been disappointed) was first class, the fish was absolutely superb and as good as I have tasted anywhere including restaurants, so well done;

So far we've only had a few menu selections but have been very happy with the portion to price and quality to price ratio. Love the mix meat and chips, love the sausage and chips, love the fish and chips. Staff are always polite and friendly. Worth the short drive to go and pick up some tea. Very disappointed with the Chicken Curry, yuk, yuk, yuk. What has happened? It used to be so nice and tasty and had a homemade feel but now very manufactured like something from Farmfoods basic. Scampi overcooked and Sausage anaemic looking :-( Very poor. Serving staff lovely.

BRILLIANT CHIPPY!!!!!! I have had food from here more times then I should admit!! Fab chips, great service, great selection of food!! I love the selection of chicken kebab meat off the spit, lovely with salad and doesn't actually feel that sinful!!! No doubt I will be eating there again sometime soon!!!! :)

Living on Heath road, this is my local chippy and we have always loved it. Firstly the staff are lovely people and always engage in chat whilst waiting in the que or whilst waiting for food. The chips are always great and I always go for the beef and onion pie. This never gets old. It's just GORGEOUS! The fish and sausages are also great. I've not got a single negative point about this place.

Go here whenever we have fish & chips - portions are very generous (great value for money), very tasty and the place is immaculate!! My father-in-law recently visited and realised he'd forgotten to pick up paracetamol for his wife and was given a packet to save him having to go back to the shop; says a lot about who runs it.
