Food is really good One of the english waiters called Ryan was really rude He pressured me and my partner into tipping him as he gets money for tips- but the service wasn’t anything spectacular, he then questioned us into why we are not tipping. We said we don’t tip generally, and he didnt accept that and heavily pressurerd my partner to tip which she did to avoid an awkward situation and so we could leave. Never been treated like this before where you get pressured to tip, no means no. Ryan got what he wanted - more money for him but we will not be coming again. The weird thing was other colleagues joked stating they get paid via tips but didn’t pressure us, only he did. Not sure why he was so different to the rest

Absolutely never again... whilst the service was good the value for money is absolutely abysmal. I paid £14.95 for 4 dry prawns. The noodles weren't nice and I wasn't asked how I would like my egg to be done. Sorry but I won't be returning. I feel as though I have been ripped off. If I wasn't so far away I would've returned to get my money back. Disappointed is an understatement.

Tonkotsu Birmingham, located inside Selfridges, is a fantastic spot! The bar-style seating creates a fun atmosphere, and the food is excellent. The service is always super nice and friendly, making for a great dining experience. Honestly, it's way better than Wagamama's. Highly recommend! The bearded gentleman with the tattoos is SO nice!!

I really love Japanese food this is the only Tonkotsu restaurant I have come across in the Midlands and honestly it's some of the best tasting Japanese food I've had. Food comes quickly and all the staff are welcoming and friendly. If you like soup dishes I'd recommended any of their Ramen. I go there on a regular occasion now and its consistently hight quality.

I stumbled upon a Japanese restaurant with good food in Birmingham, located on the basement level of Selfridges. The tonkotsu ramen is quite tasty with a rich broth, priced at £12 per serving, and the fried chicken is £8 per serving.

Everything was just perfect and well worth the money! From the lovely service to the yummylicious food - it was simply divine! Friendly staff and effecient service! Top compliments to the chef...10/10... muwah! 🫶🫶🫶

Me and my wife recently ate at this place & frankly speaking I have to be honest, their food was horrific. The same night I ended up in A&e with bad vomiting which resulted in me having to spend several hours at the hospital before I could be sent back home. Two days later, my wife also ended up with food poisoning. DONT EAT HERE!

Turned up 1 hour before closing time only to be turned away. This is the second occasion. Have been before and were looking forward to eating ramen there. Please update your opening times on google or be a bit more honest with when you stop serving.

Top class services from Kelvin ,view the open kitchen while dining your hot ramen soups . Taste alright and can choose small / regular bowl , good for us chance for taste more other foods around .

I always love eating here. Staff are welcoming and friendly, and are always helpful. Food is always so tasty, and I always have a jar of their chilli oil in my cupboard! This is my go-to spot for food while I'm in/around Birmingham.

I am a regular customer here, I have always ordered the same food each time. But today, I have had the worst experience here with your staff attitude! 1) I pointed at the menu to show him what I wish to order, however, he replied "Don't just point it to me, say it out" and I wasn't sure how to pronounce the Japanese dish properly , he then end up teaching me how to pronounce the words for few minutes Infront of other customers, which I found it quite embarrassing. 2) I have always ordered tap water here, but he told me that they only do "magic still water or magic sparkling water......????" that's fine I will have still water. BUT, i end up seeing him serve the customers beside me a jug of tap water. I found it quite racist and ridiculous.

Really delicious ramen as well as gyoza. The kimchi being vegan was a nice touch for my wife as it rarely is. The staff were efficient and very friendly and welcoming. Will definitely be returning.

what an unpleasant experience over all! 🙃 the chinese staff here was rushing us the whole time to choose menu and even patronising when I asked a question about it. I went with a chinese friend, and he would talk about me to my friend in chinese for some reason which makes me wonder why especially when he knew I'm not from china. he was never friendly to us, and almost telling us off when we said we want to split the bill. ALSO HE NEEDS TO CUT HIS NAILS. TOO DISGUSTING food was terrible as well just like his attitude, so absolutely nothing to miss. I would not go back here! 😂 everything tasted old, burnt and salty. the place was yuck

Japanese here. Lived in many prefectures in japan due to work. Northern, eastern and central japan. I also travel a lot to Kansai region. So i would say i am very familiar to different regions of japan in terms of tonkotsu ramen style. I love ramen and this is far from being authentic tonkotsu broth. The only thing they got right is the chashu. The karaage is hard and burnt and the marinate they used is wrong. It was underwhelming and disappointing. Although, the service is very good. I would suggest to add oolong tea in the menu so at least the food would closely resemble a typical Japanese set you’ll see in japan.

Nothing better on a chilly day than a bowl of Geki Kara! The broth is so rich and flavourful, with the perfect kick to it. As someone who has tried a lot of ramen, Tonkotsu have really nailed the traditional tonkotsu flavour!

I had a great experience today. I had the Teriyaki Chicken Ramen Bowl, wings, prawn gyoza’s and a chilli chicken broth. A delicious meal; with a very rich tasting broth. A special shout-out to Kevin, who also gave me a complimentary chop stick lesson! I will definitely be returning.

DEAD BUG FOUND IN WHITE BROTH. Busy Saturday lunch hours. Ordered a regular Tonkotsu Ramen, half way through eating my noodles, found a black dead bug swimming in the white chicken broth. At first thought it was a black peppercorn/ a black saseme/a lump of seaweed. I fished it out with my chopsticks, placed it on the napkin and had a closer look. A-FIRM, it was a DEAD BUG WITH WINGS ATTACHED and it's DEAD BODY CURLED UP. The napkin was place in front of the service place. I was waiting for a staff come to how me how was the food, so I could show them. Though nobody came to ask me about my food during my meal, so I didn't say anything. The atmosphere was quite intimate so I didn't feel comfortable to wave the staff forwards to my ramen. Told the staff when I paid, and he looked it it and say no way I'm sorry. That was it. To be fair he was nice. I still paid in full plus the 10% automatically added on discretionary service charge.

We don't go here often but can't resist the occasional treat! As ever the staff are fantastic! The young lady that tool our order was very courteous (she had glasses, so sorry did not catch her name) and special note to Kevin who had a full blown conversation with my daughter in Mandarin (My daughter is half Taiwanese) The food was so nice, I had the lunch offer with Kakugiri ramen with pork gyoza and my small lady had the cheeky chicken kids bento. The food was full of flavour and I loved the noodles, lovely chew on them! The pork belly was tender and generous especially considering I had the smaller lunch portion! Looking forward to our next time there already!

The people behind the counter today were some of the nicest and kindest people I have ever met. I was a little Ill and just wanted some ramen and tea to feel better. And the food was so good! I had something blue in my ramen and the issue was solved immediately and I didn't have to pay a penny. I tried tipping but they refused and apologized once again for the issue. Maybe it was because I was sick but I wanted to cry with how nice they were. <3

Food is good but there is some scrawny eastern european girl working there who has no manners whatsoever. Owner should get rid of her since she has no sense of customer service.

This is located at the “food court” so we can only sit at the bar table. Food is just ok - I had the tonkotsu ramen and it is just ok. The green tea is just ok - a bit too mild or light. Service is good though.

Nice staff. Food taste was ok. However 30 minutes after I developed fever and had a really bad stomach. Think it might have been food poisoning.

First time trying ramen was at Tonkotsu. The staff were very friendly and even gave me chop stick lessons . Ryan explained the menu and honestly made me feel so welcome , as I was eating alone . Would definitely recommend to family and friends. I will definitely be returning again for the exceptional food and amazing service !! The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere to top it all off .

This is always my favourite place for lunch when shopping in Birmingham, but this time the food just didn't feel of its usual quality flavour-wise. The chilli margaritas were a win though! Wish they'd bring back the seafood ramen 😍

Stopped by for a quick lunch. I ordered the classic one and my husband had the spicy geki kara. The portions were rather small for £30 (for two bowls with no extra toppings). The service was quick and the taste was ok but nothing special.

We visited during Easter half term and looking forward to eating at Tonkotsu Bham Selfridges. We were first to be seated at 12noon. We ordered the lunch sets and a Bentobox. My Kakugiri noodle set is not very nice, it is very soft and soggy and when I ordered an extra noodle it was on the hard/chewy side. The chicken broth is bland and full of chicken-fat oily taste. The pieces of pork is disgusting and overall small portion. The pork gyoza lacks flavour and filling. The chef cooked our gyoza on a dirty pan that probably hasn't been cleaned since yesterday as it had lots of burnt scraps stuck to my gyoza, a real hazard. We paid and left, won't be back anytime soon. Best regards,

Compare to the ones i get from Brighton from the same company, this is completely gomi(trash), the soup doesn't have the correct taste, the tonkotsu has to be cook for longer in order to made it to the Japanese level, pretty much the whole thing is a nightmare. Better the company send someone to check the quality i really mean it.

A beautiful environment with a caring and engaging staff, the food was exquisite and a treat, well balanced flavours with wonderful noodles. Thoroughly enjoyed my meal here and would certainly be back to try the teriyaki pulled pork ramen, fantastic value for money especially with the lunch set menu. Thank you.

We ordered the lunch set menu, which is £9.95 per set. And you can upgrade the noodle to normal size by £2.95. I think it’s perfect for different choices. The ramen is very chewy, the soup base is very delicious and rich in layers. The hot sauce can be added according to your own preference, it is made by themselves, and it is said that it is also sold in bottles separately. Generally speaking, it is worthwhile whether you are passing by for lunch or coming here to eat.

After eating at a Tonkotsu in London recently, I was very excited to eat at this Tonkotsu in Birmingham on Saturday the 17th. Nothing to complain about with regards to the food, at least initially, as it was delicious. In this Tonkotsu, you sit on stools overlooking the restaurant kitchen. Our food was served quickly, and everything was going well until one of the waitresses started to clean the work surfaces in front of where we were eating. She sprayed several discharges of a pink surface cleaner without any consideration for us, or for our food and drink that was situated immediately adjacent to the work surface. It was clear that the surface cleaner dispersed beyond just the work surface and into our vicinity based on the droplets we could see, and I would imagine the smaller droplets travelled further still. My partner and I looked at each other in disbelief, trying to process what had happened. The waitress sprayed again, before I could get the chance to ask her to stop. Without apology she just stopped and moved on. I suffer from chemical sensitivity, reacting to harsh substances in a variety of different ways depending on the exposure, from coughs to fatigue and fever. I hoped that the spray wouldn’t affect me, and I continued eating. I returned home after the meal with fatigue, went straight to bed, and I’m only just leaving this review now as I have been ill with a fever since then. It is incredibly frustrating that this has happened. Not only am I certain that the use of chemicals caused me to fall ill, but when has it ever been okay to spray chemicals near people? - especially when they are eating. This is true irrespective of my chemical sensitivity. I understand that, due to the seating arrangement, customers will be close to the kitchen (which must be cleaned), but chemicals should only be sprayed when customers aren’t in close proximity. I loved the food, but I won’t be coming back after this experience – I wouldn’t feel safe after falling ill as a result.

Been to one of their branches in London and had the best ramen in this country. Birmingham Tonkotsu didn’t disappoint either. Another amazing ramen experience. 🍜

Bad waitress. Was there at 11:45am yesterday as Google showed the operating time is 11:30am. Ask the waitress whether start operating polity and she was frowned and said ‘no, even the bar is not done yet’. Is quite bad attitude. Me and my friends be scared and decided to eat at other restaurant. However, the ramen is nice. I always order the spicy one😋 Will come back again when she is not working

버밍엄 뉴 스트리트 바로 옆 백화점 내에 있는 일식집입니다. 이때까지 유럽에서 먹었던 돈코츠라멘 중 가장 일본 현지 맛과 비슷한 것 같네요. 다른 음식들도 맛있었습니다! 사장님도 매우 친절하셨습니다.

Tastes soo good! Location is great, pricing is good and taste/quality/service is amazing! I would recommend trying their ramen or curry! It was really tasty and I wish I went there more before I left! Hopefully I will be back :)

Very friendly staff and excellent ramen, quite reminiscent of noodle bars in Japanese train stations. Reasonably priced and good service. Seating is at the counter on the main throughway of Selfridges ground floor, but it was still relaxed and comfortable. All menu options have several variations including vegetarian options, but the menu is quite limited (as to be expected from a small noodle bar). I would have liked to have tried the short rib ramen, but there are only 10 available per day, so get there early if this is what you want to try.

Super disappointing! The gyozas very small and with no flavour whatsoever, Tonkotsu was literally just bone stock with no tare, no other flavour added, the yuzu lemonade was basically a Schweppes lemonade with yuzu lemonade. Selfridges must be really desperate to accept so low brand in their establishment.

More of a Ramen bar than a restaurant, but fantastic food nonetheless. Visited on a Saturday lunch time and didn't have to wait too long. No bookings, just turn up.

ショッピングモールのカウンターラーメン屋。豚骨ラーメン£12(+£1 Donation、+10%サービス料)を固麺で注文。5分もしないうちに到着。クリーミーなスープに細麺で美味しかった。イギリスで美味しい豚骨ラーメンを食べられる時点で大満足ではあるが、スープのぬるさ、見た目に反した塩加減の薄さが気になった。テーブル調味料に醤油、ラー油、酢があったので、ラー油を少し足して楽しんだ。カウンター席の15分程度の滞在に、半強制ドネーションとサービスチャージは少し残念。もう少し安ければ頻繁に通うレベルで満足。

It is very delicious and staffs are very friendly. However, they put a £1 donation to the receipt without asking me. Next time, I hope they at least ask me whether I would be happy to give it.

I'm Japanese. I couldn't find a good Ramen in the UK. But ramen in Tonkotsu is amazing. The taste is almost close to Japanese ramen! I'll definitely go there again. However, the restraint is small because it is in bullring. I would like them to open a bigger restaurant!!
