Tomato & Basil in Bristol, City of

I recently visited Tomato & Basil Pizzeria and had a mixed experience that’s worth sharing for anyone considering a meal there. To start, I ordered the jalapeño cheese balls, which were unfortunately disappointing. They arrived cold in the middle and had that unmistakable texture and taste of something microwaved from frozen. Definitely not fresh, which was a letdown given they sounded like a great appetizer on the menu. For the main, I had a cheese base pizza topped with goat cheese, halloumi cheese, onions, and peppers. The pizza itself was cooked well with a nicely baked crust and a good balance of toppings. However, it could have really benefited from more cheese on the base, which felt a bit sparse and slightly dry in some bites. The cutlery was another low point as mine was noticeably dirty, which really detracted from the dining experience. On the positive side, they did serve nicely chilled water, which was a pleasant and refreshing touch. The ambience of the restaurant was one of its stronger points. It is well laid out with a thoughtful design and good background music that made for a relaxing atmosphere. Tomato & Basil isn’t a bad place to stop by for a quick pizza, especially if you’re nearby and want a casual bite at a decent price. The interior is welcoming and the vibe is enjoyable. That said, there are definitely better pizza spots along Gloucester Road when it comes to both quality and consistency. The potential is there, but attention to detail, particularly with food freshness, presentation, and cleanliness, would go a long way in improving the overall experience. A decent option, but not one I’d rush back to, but wouldn't rule out not going again.

We called ahead to ask if we could still book, despite it only being an hour until they closed. But they accommodated our group of three. The service was impeccable, they were all friendly and polite. The glasses were crystal clear and the beer was ice cold (what more could you want?). The pizza was incredible, definitely authentic Italian pizza, I've eaten pizza all over Italy and this easily ranks among the best of them. Deliciously flavourful, perfectly cooked and seasoned. The atmosphere was nice, the way they have decorated, along with the music really makes you feel like you're abroad. The prices were extremely good as well, my pizza was one of the most expensive on the menu at only £14 (Dominos charge £24 for a pizza of the same size). 10/10 will absolutely be back.

We celebrated one of our friends' birthday there, and the food was amazing, the staff was lovely. The prices were reasonable and quality was good at the same time. Loved it there.

I really like this pizzeria! Very tasty pizzas and I order from them a lot :) The only feedback I would give is to increase the quantity of the add-ons on the pizza to justify their additional cost :)

Great intimate spot on Gloucester road. Very friendly, hospitable staff. Being gluten free is definitely an option here, the gf base is very authentic tasting and the menu is also vegan friendly which my girlfriend loved. Great topping options, and they don’t skimp out on the amount on the pizza.

The chocolate brownie that comes in the VEGAN meal deal for 2 is not vegan. I called up just to double check because I was unsure and they confirmed it is not vegan. Not sure how they think it’s acceptable to be selling that in a vegan meal deal.

Really good pizza with a thin crust and quality toppings. Friendly service, nice atmosphere (loved the paintings and the background music!), overall much better than the more well known pizza chains.

La mía era una deliciosa mezcla de alcachofas, anchoas, tomate seco al sol y más. Él mismo tenía una carne que se consumió demasiado rápido para que yo la probara. Todos los veganos eran como obras de arte y los 7 nos encantó nuestra comida. Y prueba el baño de ajo que está fuera de este mundo. Bebidas buenas opciones y excelentes vinos por copa. Servicio, encantador, amable, amable, profesional y oportuno. La frescura era perfecta. El señor que nos cuidó nos hizo sentir como en casa. Un momento encantador para todos nosotros. We hadn't booked. Got a table - food and service were excellent. It's a shame it wasn't busier (but then we wouldn't have got a table! Would certainly go back.

Prompt delivery and the food was hot. The tomato and basil pizza was delicious. The skin on fries was exquisite. I ordered a garlic sauce but that was missing.I ordered a meal for two because it worked out cheaper. Will order again.

We ordered two pizza (Margherita and Pepperoni), onion rings and Caesar salad. They are all delicious. Staff is friendly, helpful and accommodating. Good dining experience.

The pasta dishes were all frozen and defrosted for us to eat. My friend ate his chicken pasta and it was literally frozen in the middle, so the waiter had to microwave it for longer. Really disappointing and also dangerous if meat is not defrosted properly before eaten.

Just popped in as I had 30 mins to kill and needed some supper. Went for the spicy meat pizza and it was hands down one of the best pizzas I have had in a long time. Will definitely come back!

Food arrived cold and very small portion for this money, not just pizza but desserts as well, so tiny .... the worst thing was i order for specific time (19:15) almost 2h before put order on (17:00) and still they start making it after 19:00... baad

Visited for my husband's birthday. Superb pizza, extremely reasonable prices. Service from a very nice young man who was thoughtful about things like closing the door when it got a little cool. Friendly place, if it wasn't for the rain outside the window we'd have felt like we were in Naples! Will visit again.

Ordered a few dishes from the menu and we were very disappointed! Carbonara is NOTHING how a carbonara should be. Very bland and tasteless. No garlic, no pancetta, no Parmesan. Just overcooked penne in a readymade cheese gloop! Arribiatta was also bland and tasteless. Rosemary fries were tasteless and soggy. Only enjoyable item was the can of lemon san pelegrino. Sacrilege to Italian food!! (Chef with 33 years experience).

Great little Italian, highly recommend, even gave us free garlic dips to try!
