Tomahawk Steakhouse Acklam Hall in Middlesbrough

Just had Sunday Lunch at Acklam Hall for family celebration in private room. Excellent food and service from Massimo, thanks for a lovely afternoon.

Excellent top class meal tonight with the sharing board steaks cooked to perfection. great surroundings and great friendly staff.

There for over two hours even though the order was a small one, staff saw us as an inconvenience, and no apologies for the waiting time. Steak was raw rather than medium rare. Portions were tiny. Wont be going again.

Met friends for breakfast and were not at all disappointed. Despite not booking we were shown to a lovely table by staff member Emily. From then on we enjoyed ambience of the first order. Our food was delicious and again we must commend Emily and the team for looking after us and seeing to our needs. The setting is magnificent in one of the finest buildings in the north east of England. All in all a wonderful dining experience encouraging us to return again on a regular basis.

Brilliant brunch. Staff amazing & food delicious. Cocktails were the best ever. Very clean & perfect toilets. Would recommend for everyone to come here & enjoy.

Acklam Hall although grand was a little fraid around the edges, but the food in the tomahawk which was the main reason for our visit, was very disappointing. My wife ordered the garlic mushroom parmo and I ordered the shwarma board. My wife's parmo turned up with what looked like cambells gloopy mushroom soup plonked on top and my shwarma chicken was diced so small it kept rolling out of my flour wrap. But top marks to the young manageress for appeasing my wife and offering her apologies and throwing a free dessert on the bill and the young men who brought the food to our table excellent manners and friendly personality. Overall the food is king and we won't be returning but whoever reads this review I would recommend the Saltburn by sea Tomahawk restaurant. Clearly a cut above all other Tomahawk restaurants due to its food and portion size for your buck. Even so we'll done to the staff at Acklam Hall

We visited Tomahawk Steakhouse at Acklam Hall expecting a lovely meal in a beautiful venue, but instead were met with staff who seemed to view customers as an inconvenience. From the start, it felt like we were interrupting their preferred task of doing absolutely nothing. Despite the restaurant being only half full, it took 40 minutes for our food to arrive—just for two adults and a toddler, hardly a massive order. And yet, there was no acknowledgment of the delay. When the food was finally brought out, it was plonked down on the table without so much as a word. The same cold treatment was given when the bill arrived—dropped off with zero interaction. The complete lack of service was something I’d expect from a greasy spoon in Siberia, not a well-regarded venue like this. The food and drinks were actually good, but the atmosphere created by the unhelpful, indifferent staff overshadowed everything. It's a real shame because the setting itself is lovely, but I won’t be coming back if this is how they treat paying customers.

Last night my fiancé proposed to me here, the staff were amazing and helped him out so much, they were all so kind and really made it special. The food was amazing and cooked to our liking. We are very thankful. Couldn’t of asked for anything more :)

We attended for our Granddaughter's 16th Birthday, there was 24 of us and Massimo waited on us with ease, his service was outstanding! There was also another guy who helped him but I don’t know his name and between then them, the whole event went so smoothly. Nothing was to much trouble.

Food was massively over priced and overrated ordered a tomahawk steak sharer £80 asked for medium rare it was raw hardly cooked at all and for a sharer platter was tiny I could of ate the whole thing on my own and the tomahawk steak was full of fat deeply disappointed only plus was the staff they where really friendly and couldn't do enough shame the food wasn't up to the same standard if you go here only order drinks and no food even though look good I've had better steaks at at weatherspoons

Beautiful surroundings and amazing food, can not fault the steaks and sides. Ruby was our named server and she was so polite, friendly and knowledgeable about the building, answering any questions we had and made us feel so welcomed.

When for a birthday meal. Arrived take to out table to find that they have left dirty curtley and waste food as side of table on floor. When main arrived waitress dropped salad on my out which had a oli in so have ruined by outfit. No apologise given. When bill arrived it was incorrect they had under changed us we told them and they just said we shouldn't have said anything not the right way to run and busy. Not the best experiences or Birthday meal

Poor experience from Tomahawk. After visiting Potto and Yarm Tomhawk we decided to try this one for breakfast. We turned up at 11am and breakfast stops at 11:30am. We were sat down and told that the chef was behind and it will be a 20 minute wait for food which is fine. Our coffee order and food order was taken and we waited 15 minutes to be told that our breakfast would not be made as the chef is behind and they have a busy Sunday lunch coming up. Would recommend going to a different tomahawk if you want good service

Had a great afternoon at bottomless brunch at Acklam Hall. Good food, great cocktails and amazing staff. Nothing was too much trouble, the staff gave us 110% service. We will definitely be back. Acklam Hall is a credit to the Tomahawk Group.

We booked the parlour room for 25 people. We pre ordered the meals and they all came out correctly and every single person enjoyed their meal. The staff were lovely especially Massimo. He was there to make sure our drink were topped up an regularly checked we were ok. The children played outside and had the best day. Would certainly recommend this venue.

My wife and I enjoyed a 2 course Sunday lunch. Great atmosphere and staff but a couple of niggles. The food was delicious but we found it difficult to eat our starters of prawn cocktail and parmo croquettes with our main course cutlery ie steak knives and large forks. The roast pork dinner claimed to have the crispest crackling but was the most uncrispiest crackling I’ve ever seen. Having said all that we thoroughly enjoyed our lunch.

Lovely afternoon chilling at Acklam Hall after a walk in the sunshine. We had food and drinks and the service from Massimo was spot on, he looked after us made great recommendations and it was lovely speaking with him. Good wise we ordered a parmo and the chicken schwarma board, both were really tasty, good portions and fresh food.

I visited second time. Today we, 16people enjoy the steak and scotch and whisky with €1,400. All was wonderful tonight.

Met up with friends for breakfast. Daunted by the Big Tom we all chose smaller options but they were still plentiful. Set me up for the day.

This is our 2nd time here,the first time was so memorable for all the right reasons service and food was to die for , We have just returned for our 40th wedding anniversary and I can say it was sensational , We had the sharing platter including half lobster, it was done to perfection, The staff are excellent always asking if everything is OK, I would not hesitate to return in the future. I’ve been several times and the food is always unseasoned including the stake. The stake I had recently was dry and flavourless, chips didn’t even have salt and veg was plain too. Only the sauce has any hint of flavour and seasoning. Very expensive and very bland.

The atmosphere and service is always great, however the food is always a let down. The steaks, considering how pricy they are, have no seasoning, and were rather dry, so made it difficult and uncomfortable to chew. Paid for the premium truffle fries which unfortunately were just normal fries with a bit of truffle seasoning, nothing spectacular to just getting normal fries. The fried halloumi was overcooked as well. This place has potential to improve but the food is where it needs to start, the food quality should match the price

Had an amazing experience, came with my father and sister, the food was amazing I had the rump stake and it was one of the best I have had, Emily and graham were our servers and they were both so pleasant. Would definitely recommend and come again.

Afternoon tea was £29pp so £60 for one of these + think about it this way its £20 per plate included in the tier, miniature cakes, fish and sandwichea its scandalous! When booking I seen pictures showing the afternoon T, different to what we got which was Fish chips, raw beef buns, raw salmon sandwich, prawn, egg, sandwich and bread was stale (not soft) the cheesecake and other cakes where warm and soggy and not fresh. I mean I would never of fancied fish and chips on afternoon tea and really didn't expect them. So disappointed. Although the manage was very nice and explained there had been a menu change and hadn't nt been updated online and took off service charge ect it was still a very 1 star afternoon tea and had to warn others. Other staff were also ignorant asked for drinks and the bill at the end few times and a man just look at me and walked off, restaurant wasnt busy at all. I think the price didn't match the quality of food this was my main concern. Also to add it was for my baby shower and noted this when booking and with the sandwiches being raw meat and fish I think this was being ignorant to dietary requirements as you can't eat raw when pregnant so I basically missed out on half the platter here .

Went for a birthday Breakfast, front of house was great, coffee was good barista did a nice job on the latte art. Breakfast was pretty terrible, and I wouldn’t recommended anyone spending the money on breakfast here unless you like over done poached eggs on dry slices of toast. Pretty awful, you can make better breakfasts at home. Go to Off The Ground, Velveteen Rabbit or Truffled Hog.

Service is excellent. Waiters are obviously well trained and doing their best. Food: raw, stringy, tough steak on the table right next to us put us off. Lady was complaining, nicely. She just couldn't eat it. Looked disgusting. Oh dear. Can't bear raw chewy steak with stringy tendons ugh.

My partner who is pregnant attended this establishment for a breakfast, ordered, over an hour wait. food was partially cooked so could not be eaten, she requested a lactose free hot drink. By the late evening she was really ill with a lactose allergic reaction, which could have caused issues with the pregnancy. Very poor overall would advise not using if you have allergies as it appears no attention paid to specific requests.

Superb evening at Tomahawk. Food, surroundings and staff (Holly & Neve) were 10/10. It’s rare all 3 are so high, so I would strongly recommend this restaurant. A true gem.

I have arranged for my family to have lunch here at Acklam Hall, This was my third visit and there’s 15 of us this time including my 3 grandkids. Massimo was the waiter for our table and he was very polite and friendly. We all enjoyed the food and service. I love the restaurant setting, so spacious.

Tomahawk Steakhouse in Acklam is based in the historic Acklam Hall. Fun fact: Acklam Hall - or its predecessor - was listed in the Domesday book. So as well as dining in a very ancient and historic property, you get wonderful service from the likes of Danielle, Emily and Luke. The menu is extensive and almost Steakhouse American in its offering. Oysters? Yes. Porterhouse? Yes? Fancy an upgrade to Wagyu F1 cut? It’s all here. The food is undeniably wonderful - the service efficient, attentive and friendly - and the venue itself is remarkable. Let me put it like this: I had dinner here two nights in a row. It’s excellent. Just go.

Beautiful surroundings, most serving staff were on the ball, a few you could tell were training BUT all were helpful and very pleasant. The place was very busy for a Wednesday night but it was restaurant week, so was expected. Food was £20 for three courses which was exceptional value for money the catch is the ‘extra’s’ we personally only ordered onion rings to share (£4.95). The only problem I had with the food was 1) Starter Parmo Croquettas is described as ‘fried chicken, with béchamel sauce and cheese” in reality it was shredded chicken mixed with a sauce, no cheese in sight and rolled in breadcrumbs. I’m not saying it wasn’t edible but it definitely had no taste of a Parmo! 2) Dessert was vanilla cheesecake served with a strawberry and yuzu ice cream. It came without the ice cream. Again nice but incomplete. The main and only reason I’ve taken a star away is the extra charge on the bill “surcharge 10% of the whole bill”. NOW this is marked as optional I know but how many people check their bills. We always pay the given bill and add our own tip again usually 10% or more. However on this occasion our bill we knew was £84.95 plus 3 alcohol drinks and 2 Diet Pepsi our bill was £121 and pennies. I assumed they’d charged us for an extra drink and upon checking the bill found the surcharge. At this point we’d put £135 on the receipt I immediately removed £10 that would have been a £26 tip had I not checked. How many people, especially in large groups check their bill? I think this practice is extremely underhand. We don’t live in the city where this practice is the norm and expected, it’s described as being in a market town. I dread to think how much ‘extra’ we’ve paid over the years at this restaurant, but it won’t ever happen again. TOMAHAWK this is a sneaky practice it either needs stopping OR it should be brought to the diners attention when the bill is given. Please do not respond stating the server should have brought it to our attention because we have been regular visitors since you opened locally in 2018. Also do not state it’s in the small print of the menu as it is not!

Went 25th of Jan made a complaint about the food(Basically false description ie items missing) on thier web site then later on thier own feed back and still heard nothing. They are either overwhelmed with complaints or dont care.

Went for a baby shower. The place is dark and dreary. I ordered the roast beef and it was fatty and horrible. They don't do a decent sunday dinner. They spilt a whole tray of drinks, because they were rushing, even though this had been booked for months! Didn't get enough staff to cover. So depressing in that place.

Great service, fantastic food. I do think the default option when asking for water should be tap water, not the expensive bottled water - felt quite tricked into paying for this. Similar feeling about the automatic service charge.
