Tom Browns Brasserie in Newark and Sherwood

I visited Tom brown on Friday the 5th of April with family for an evening meal, to our delight there was a wonderful singer to accompany our meal. The food was so good too, I had one of the best fillet steaks I’ve ever had cooked to perfection. We’ll 100% be returning soon!!

We came here for the Mothers day Brunch. Despite the atmosphere being great with live music. Unfortunatly the service was very slow and the food was not worth the cost at all. Sandwiches were very bland and the bread had started to go stale. We were sat waiting for a while before anyone came over to offer us some drinks. There was one memeber of staff who seemed very on it, all credit to him! However, the rest seemed to lack personable skills. Overall, the worst experience I have had at Tom Browns- it appears it has gone very downhill since I last visited over a year ago.

I don't live near to Tom Browns (an hour's drive away) but was told by friends that the food is always delicious and the local area beautiful for walks. So myself and husband booked for lunch following a walk along the river. I am so pleased that we made the effort, the food was absolutely lovely - the best meals we've had in quite a while and it definitely wont be the last time we visit. The staff should all be very proud of themselves at the level of service that they give to their customers, they couldn't do enough for us which added to our fab dining experience. Thank you Tom Browns, we are so pleased to have discovered you - we will be returning soon and telling all our friends!

I was incredibly disappointed in my experience here. My food came undercooked and when I requested to have them redo my order I was refused. The younge waitress had said that the chef 'Liam's wouldnt be happy if she did. I heard such good reviews before which just added to the disappointment.

Visited with family to wish our daughter safe travels for her upcoming trip. Service was professional and we were made to feel very welcome. We were checked in on regularly to see if we needed anything but never felt rushed. Food was really good and we were all happy with our choices. When we ordered our desserts they came with a Bon Voyage plate which was a lovely touch. Definitely recommend for great food and service.

Great food and service, we live locally and do not use this place anywhere near as often as we should do! We will definitely be back soon with lots of friends, the staff were telling us how many events they have coming up and we can’t believe we’ve been missing out!

Superb venue with outstanding food and impeccable service. We booked an afternoon tea as a special treat for Mother’s Day and we could not fault the whole experience. We were made to feel very welcome by the manager Adam and we were served very promptly and efficiently at the bar. The waiter and waitresses couldn’t do enough for us with unlimited sandwiches, teas and coffees. The afternoon tea was very special arriving on a mini picnic bench with a selection of gorgeous sandwiches and incredible desserts. Thank you so much to all of the staff. You made me feel very special.

We had picked up our new campervan at lowdhams during the day so I had pre booked this location for an evening meal.. .. we live in Wiltshire so had no idea what a gem this would be. The food was pretty exceptional and the prices really reasonable. In particular I would recommend the cauliflower starter and the pigs cheeks .. the desserts were also fantastic.. we forgot to use our lowdhams discount card but despite that I thought the bill was very reasonable. Great staff .. highly recommended

A bit of a disappointment. The steak wasn't great as it hadn't been seared so wasn't great, it was as if it had been cooked on a really low heat. The water was warm. We swapped to a bottle of sparkling water, which was also warm. The table was also very sticky.

Great food, starter was good, sauce a little too salty but that's just something that was a minor observation... Steak was perfect, fillet, medium rare... Peppercorn sause great balance, rocket with a hint of parmesan..... Waiter Tom attentiveness and service 5 star..... Overall a great night.. With well cooked food.... Overall would visit again....

I have always found Tom Browns busy even at Lunch time, but on our last 2 visits it has been excedingly quiet, only 8 adults and 2 children in the whole restaurant this time! I'm glad we were with another couple as there was no atmosphere. Twice now I have been dissapointed with the food, finding some of the products served almost stale or possibly reheated poorly. (Front of house staff are always pleasant an helpful.) We enjoy good food, which we have come to expect there over the years, but we felt rather dissapointed enough to now try somewhere else next time. With a quiet restaurant it should have been perfect.

Everytime we step foot in this place we’re greeted with exceptional service and the tastiest food! We’ve been to celebrate on numerous occasions and each time has been fantastic. Delicious food, great service and would 110% reccomend! Can’t wait to go back 🙏

Best Sunday dinner in Nottinghamshire

I have to say that for some years now Tom Browns has been at the top of the list for being one of my favourite restaurants. I have always loved the quality of the food and it's hospitality. Last Saturday, 9th December I was fortunate to hold a dinner party for my daughter's 21st birthday which included her family and close friends. Altogether, there were 14 of us. The staff were absolutely faultless, attentive and engaging. Sadly, the birthday cake had collapsed and although not altogether destroyed, it would not have been nice for my daughter to have seen it presented in it's state. However, head chef came to the rescue and was able to do his magic and my daughter was later presented with her cake in all it's beauty, never knowing what had happened to it previously. Thank you Head Chef Liam. You may not wear a cloak but you were definitely a superhero in our eyes. I also have to include how enjoyable our meals were and how quickly they all came at the same time, leaving no one person having to wait ages for their food. Thank you Tom Browns for a wonderful dining experience.

We had a really lovely festive afternoon tea here about 4yrs ago,unfortunately this wasn’t the case when we returned this year. Apart from a very basic mince pie and a tiny Christmas pudding there was nothing else to indicate it was Christmas. Very poor theme this year. Plus they really shouldn’t use the picnic benches for a festive afternoon tea. These have been used all year round for years and should really be retired now in want of a new idea. Service was slow,we were seated and had to wait 10-15 minutes until a waitress asked us our drinks order. Food was ok,nothing special. I don’t think we will return.

My wife and I had a meal in this restaurant while we were at Lowdhams with our motorhome. We thought that it was going to be really expensive as it looks very nice but the price was fair. The food was lovely, the service was fantastic and I would definitely use this restaurant again if visiting Lowdhams.

Very slow service, but food was very good when it did arrive.

First for time for Sunday lunch and it did not disappoint. I am really glad we chose bring our friends with us and they really enjoyed it too. I cannot stress enough how good the food is and done consistently well every t8me we go....

Looked in, and was too expensive so we left. Place looked clean and nice and the staff was nice too. It was still empty when we called in.

We had reserved a table for 4 at 7.30pm on 16/8/23 to celebrate my brother's 30th birthday, which we had disclosed when booking. We were seated promptly and the restaurant had 7 tables (including us) occupied. Drinks orders were not taken for at least 30 minutes. Food order was placed as soon as we managed to order drinks as we had made our decisions in this time. Our starters (2 plates) did not arrive until 9.15pm and our main dishes did not arrive until 9.30pm. Bearing in mind we had arrived for our reservations at 7.30pm. We quickly noticed that there was only 2 people on the shop floor, the floor manager and the waiter/barman - who appeared to be running tirelessly to attend to everyone's needs. There was no other staff on the restaurant/bar at all. We realised that all other tables were receiving slow service also and many complained and expressed their frustration. We had brought cake for the birthday milestone occasion, which appeared to have not been stored appropriately (despite asking to do so on arrival due to fresh cream involved) and it was basically half melted by the time we came round to it - which we needed to prompt to receive as by the time we finished dinner (we ate everything in 20 minutes as we were starving - I am 9 months pregnant and my mother who is in her 60s was also famished). I prompted that we required to wrap up soon because my brother is not from the region and needs to travel an extra hour to get home - this was why I booked an appropriate dinner time. Food was good but the service was very slow indeed. There appeared to have been a management issue as this surely could have been anticipated? Also, it would have been nice to have our extremely long wait acknowledged (by being more attentive, asking if we needed more drinks - especially since it was a very warm summer's evening), particularly as we were celebrating an occasion and the jovial mood rapidly evaporated as hunger and frustration took over. The hot summer evening meant that all doors were open, and flies became somewhat of a problem. Dishes were not cleared up promptly when groups left as there was no staff. This did not help with the already soured ambiance. Overall we spent 2.5 hours in the restaurant and we spent 35 minutes of that eating and the rest waiting. It was a real disappointment to celebrate a nice occasion. I'm sure this is not the standard but it has truly tainted our first impression of Tom Browns and I don't think that we will want to visit again for a long time.

Visited on the 29th of July. What can I say, the place is lovely along with all staff that served us. The food was out of this world. So fresh & there was definitely no complaints from our party. We do live in Leicester but we will sure to visist again when we visit family in Nottingham. Thank you all again for the fabulous service.

Wishing to support local restaurant we returned to Tom Browns for the first time in quite a while as had always loved the food here. Only three tables occupied in main area, and seemed well staffed. Drinks took 20 mins to arrive, food 45 mins....

Very disappointed to have provisionally booked afternoon tea for 13 only to be told they wouldn't cater for two gluten free members of the party. Their only solution was to get the guests to order from the normal menu whilst everyone else had afternoon tea!...

Booked the brasserie for a lunch party for my sisters 30th. The setting is beautiful right next to the canal. The staff were so helpful with all of the booking, sorting high chairs in advance and taking our meal order. On the day, the food and drinks were great but again the service was exceptional, from the manager to our waitress. We had a cake delivered which was no problem and the waitress managed our table with no trouble at all even though it was boiling hot and we weren’t the easiest party as we had a few kids! Thanks so much to all for making it a special day.

Sadly dreadful. Sat at table 19:15, waited a while for drinks order, yet more time for food order. 19:40 starters arrived. 20 minutes later wave repeatedly to ask for another drink. Gave up waiting for main course at 20:55 and went home. Used to be such a great place.

We needed a quick bite on Mother's day and everything was booked up. This venue let us have a table at short notice (prior to the booking turning up) where the one next door didn't (even though there was no one in there yet). Really friendly place and staff. Lovely food and service.

A lovely place with great food and friendly and helpful staff. Well worth a visit. Food was presented beautifully and was very tasty. The only downside was that we were repeatedly asked whether we wanted more drinks which became a little invasive. We all received a tiny bottle of gin, as we were all mum's on Mother's Day, and a 20% voucher off another meal before middle of May. What's not to like?! I hope to use my voucher soon 🥰

Had an excellent evening at Tom Brown's Japanese Evening. Excellent food, great service. Would be nice to have a comments sheet to give a proper review and make the evening interesting. The beef and. sashimi ware excellent. The pork cheek was lovely would have preferred the same wasabi coleslaw as with the beef. The coconut cake was delicious. Greatest evening can’t wait to see what’s next. Wine pairing lovely, would definitely paid more. Totally recommend this restaurant

Hi, Been there twice in two weeks now [for Sunday lunch] the food is excellent, really tasty, but the service is so disjointed, the staff are really friendly and helpful, and the main courses are delivered in good time but if you want a drink or anything after that i suggest you go to the bar, seems there are too many staff and no organisation, we would return though.

The starter of Korean fried cauliflower was excellent- the rest less than average. The roast chicken was unpleasant - microwaved veg - raw broccoli & generic gravy. Cherry Bakewell dessert was a slice of vanilla sponge with some cherry drizzle sauce and one cherry- not impressive. Won’t be rushing back

Went to Tom Browns today for my daughters birthday. Booked via website. We were allocated a nice table and drinks orders came reasonably quickly. Ordered starters within 15 minutes, which arrived after prompting after 30 minutes. 45 minutes after we arrived. The place wasnt busy....

Disappointing. Over 1 hour wait for food to arrive. Finished drinks when it came, not good. Food okay but why put risotto with a pork chop? January sale menu a gimmick. Very little choice. Room cold. Put our coats back on after a few minutes in an attempt to keep warm. Won't return in a hurry

I cannot speak highly enough of this place! Every time we go with friends or on our, no matter what we chose to eat, the flavour combinations are amazing. Well priced with great service, this one establishment worth a trip out for.

Ten pounds for a glass of red wine 🍷 nothing special only the price

We had a table for 15 for Xmas Day Dinner. Unfortunately we were all very disappointed with the meal. My scallops were practically raw and inedible, and the Turkey plate hugely disappointing and an extremely small portion, and I am by no means a big eater. No expected slices of succulent Turkey breast meat but 3 small slices of Turkey roll with bland stuffing in the middle. Poor selection of veg, though roast pot's were OK, no Cranberry sce. Our only relief was a decent Xmas pud, though other desserts ordered were also poor. We were not offered to taste the wine first, just poured directly, and when we complained at the taste it did not go down well. For £95 a head we expected so much more, all adults were highly underwhelmed. Last time for us I'm afraid Tom Browns.

I went to Tom Browns yesterday for Sunday with my family there was 6 of us , it was busy yesterday but still got prompt service with fast drinks , I had the roast Beef which cut like butter and I loved the Yorkshire pudding...

Lovely restaurant, drinks service was slow, food service was fast. We received our drinks after our food. We all had the roast, I had beef roast which was £16.50. For the price I was put off, there was only one carrot, two roast potatoes and two small carvings of meat. The beef was dry, the gravy was thin and the horse raddish mousse just tasted watered down. Over all disappointed.

looking forward to a super Sunday lunch, but had meat with gristle, -even the second portion to replace the first! So after a poor main course, the sweet was tasty but only lukewarm and had to wait 20minute+ for it to arrive.
