We always get our fish and chips here when we visit Walton. Never had a bad meal. Very good value and freshly cooked and hot. We ring our order through and it’s ready in 15 minutes.

Best fish 🐟 and chip 🍟 shop in the area. Worth the holiday alone 😔

Great food but the cook who I took to be the owner spent the whole time having a go at the young guy taking the orders. He went on and on ( and on and on ). The young guy was polite and a pleasure to deal with. He served us previously and is consistently good. How he stayed composed whilst being shouted at was commendable. No one likes a bully and for us it ruined the experience. I just hope the young guy doesn’t take it to heart. I’d employ him any day but the chef no way.

Spent a few hours in Walton decided to find a chip shop and came across this amazing place best seaside chips I've had in a long time freshly made to order and amazing service. When back in Walton will definitely be coming here again

The food was yummy. Staff are very friendly and helpful.

Normally good had cod and chips the chips were rock hard unedable the large cod was a tail end so didn't enjoy this meal

Ordered 2 spam fritters & chips today along with cod & chips & chicken straps with chips & curry sauce when I got home they had given me 2 fish cakes instead of spam fritters I was not impressed

If ever your in Walton this is a must visit chip shop . It’s as good as anywhere I’ve been , must be the best in Walton by far . The most delicious cod and chips for under a tenner , the lady who owns it very friendly and certainly knows what she’s doing . Delicious

Disgusting place, wanted 3 doner kebabs after they took my money they said I will be waiting 15 mins, 30 mins later my kebabs are here try’s to charge me again for them.. then making a joke about me paying for it again is not funny, also to mention they were talking about infections in the face from piercings whilst I waited the long 30mins. To get back to a pure greasy doner meat and the lady that made them even admitted I don’t like being down that side near the kebab bit because it’s too hot? Why work there if that is the case…

Well it had to happen the chips have finally increased in price this week by 30% to £2.50 for a small portion!

This shop does not give the correct orders. We were missing out Sausage and Batter in Chips, which was not provided to us. Upon contacting the establishment, was told, sorry, we are closed now, cant do anything. Not even an offer of a refund. Will now be sending a Letter Before Action to reclaim the cost of this.

This restaurant has stolen our money and refuses to deal with the situation. Will not be visiting again.

The best fish and chips for miles. Shame many other chippies don’t cook theirs the same way. Consistently good , never had a bad chip.

Amazing two ladies (Toni and Jo) behind the till, an elderly lady came and parked up in her scooter and with no hesitation these particular servers went straight out to help, take the order and deliver it outside, ensuring she had everything safely on her scooter and change in her purse, and telling her to safely get home. That’s the kind of service everyone hopes to receive. Amazing! Ladies your the kind of people everyone wishes they had working for them.

Excellent fish and chips, curry sauce was also very nice. Feeding the family was very cost friendly! The battered sausage could've been better, not the nicest quality sausage. They only accept cash which is always frustrating having to go to a cash point and the service is just so slow, taking 30 minutes to get some fish and chips just isn't a great experience

Visited Tollgate Fisheries this afternoon and could not be more pleased. The fish was perfectly cooked - the flesh moist and the batter beautifully crisp and golden. The chips were piping hot and the service friendly and efficient. It was well worth the trip from Dorset on its own!

Brought a quater of chicken breast Saturday 24th June, only to find wen I started to eat it, it was raw and freezing cold in the middle never ever would I eat from this chippy again and I would not recommend it to anyone, staff were to busy taking orders and food wasn't being cooked long enough they just can't cope with chippy being busy

We live locally and always get our fish and chips from here. The queue is normally quite long, but it is worth it. Tastes good and good portion sizes.

The people in this fish and chip shop are always very friendly, you can order on the phone and it's ready at the time they say. The cod and chips is always delicious and you get a good amount of food. It's usually very busy, especially in the summer.

This is one of our local Fish & Chips shops, and have to say our favourite, have got our fish and chips from her for years now and now my parents have moved up this way, it's their favourite too, so when we found out it's closed over Xmas, we were devistated, we had to go else where, and to our disappointment none of them were a patch to our Tollgate Fisheries. Was good fish and chips, right by the beach. Disappointed to find out when we got back to our apartment the saveloy was missing, had an upset dog. Food was tasty. Staff were friendly.

Excellent cod and chips not swimming in oil. Lovely crispy batter . Good size standard cod fillet and chips freshly cooked and not soggy. Well wrapped and still hot after a mile walk back to car. All in all a great chippy.

Great doners,great fish,top chips, try spam fritters as a side, if you are hungry.

What a shame! Fish was dry and tasteless. Used to be so good - a highlight of a trip to Walton. Have recommended to several friends over the years. Cook it fresh or be prepared to throw it away if it's been under the heat lamp too long. Will probably give it another try, hopefully they can redeem themselves. Sorry for the comments but this needs to be addressed or you'll lose customers.

Ruim wee jaar geleden kwam ik daar toevallig, voordat we de nachtboot vanuit Harwich namen. Dit jaar wederom gedaan. Hetzelfde keihard werkende meisje werkt er nog steeds. Vis is voortreffelijk, de friet wat slap, maar dat is gebruikelijk in de UK.😋👍

I had fish and chips here and i could not fault them the chips were really nice and the batter on the fish just melted in your mouth and the portions were very large and good value for the money [caution they only take cash] Some of the best fish and chips i have had and not to greasy . Very clean place and friendly staff.

Tollgate is the best chip shop beewise security always go there when we are working in the area highly recommend it .the lady server is so friendly and nothing is too much trouble .

The best Fish n Chips for miles! Beautifully cooked fish and luscious chips. During the lockdown, customers had to stand outside and wait for orders. The coastguard had to come along several times to move people along the road so that the Tide could come in! ( It IS that good!)

A lovely takeaway fish & chip shop. Very friendly staff who obviously think a great deal of their regulars and the way they look after them.

Having read a mixture of reviews we decided to go with the higher recommendations but was mindful of the ones that indicated standards had gone down. Firstly, its cash only. In a pandemic?? I had to walk to the end of the road to get cash out. When we finally got our cod and chips and unwrapped them on the sea front a few yards away, we found the cod portion was very small, the flesh was grey and chewy, the batter was greasy and dough like and stuck to the paper as did the chips which were pale, soggy and made up of 50/50 chips and what appeared to be scraps or offcuts of potato. I went here because of the positive reviews but sadly it appears either new owners, different chef or just standards have dropped. I wont be re-visiting.

Overall the best I can say is mediocre at best

We have used Tolgate 4 or 5 times in last 5 weeks and it is still hit and miss when it comes to the quality of the chips, but i suppose everyones tastes are different and they may like hard and crispy chips. Burger, fish, nuggets and pies have been ok except never very warm after jumping in the car and driving just the one mile home. Don't know whats changed, used to be great everytime.

Ordered cod & chips x 3 and I swear it was 3 megaladon instead of cod. Those things were monstrous so we really didn't need to order chips 😂 Huge portions at a great price. If you're ever in the area you really need to visit at least once. Thank you.

first time in a while last week and i am glad to say the chips and nuggets were tasty but the fish, rock, had quite a few small bones in it as well as the one big one, this is most unusual as that's the reason I normally go for this type of fish,you ain't going to find loads of bones, till now. Ate one small bone before I realised and got stuck in throat but dislodged it with the chips. But will think twice now about ordering rock again.

Ive been going here for years no problems but the last month i has been disgusting twice let down by old over cooked cod i dont like to leave bad reviews but i will not be going back there again.sort it out for god sakes.we spend good money on your food the least you cam do is attempt to keep standards up.

The best fish and chips I have eaten for some time and reasonably priced. Lovely cod coated in crispy batter that wasnt too thick.

My friend and I think this fish & chip shop is the best thing since sliced bread. We found it by chance, having asked a local who was tucking in to hers, where she had bought them? she pointed to the place opposite and in we went. They take your order and ask you to wait across the road and call you when its ready. The lady wrapped them for us, so that we could take them to Band Stand to sit and eat. No kidding you, were hardly spoke while we tucked in, they were THAT GOOD! I'm going to take my Dad there next time, as he's looking for traditional fish & chips with "the batter they used to make" for years. I can't wait to tell him "Dad, the hunt is over, get in the car, we're going to Walton".

My friend and I went to this take away yesterday and all I can say is, it was truly amazing. We are very fussy about our fish and chips and we both stopped talking while we ate, which means it was seriously good!We both said afterwards, we have not had fish and chips as good as this for a VERY LONG time.I hope to take my Dad there soon, as he is really craving traditional batter recipe from yesteryear.

now we have eaten take aways from tolgate chip shop many times and had no problems, but my god were the chips awful on sunday tea time. to make matters worse we had friends staying with their 3 kids. The chips were hard, tough to chew, yes chew and very well lets say crispy. It was a good job the fish and sausages that we also got were very nice, but serving chips that bad, embarrassing. It wasn't even as if they were quiet and the chips had been sitting there cooking for a while, what went so wrong with the chip fryer.
