Excellent fish and chips, large portions at a reasonable price.

Have been buying from Pete’s fish shop once a week for the last six months. Never been disappointed with the quality of the fish or chips

Best fish and chips in Holland on Sea (much better than the Golden Fillet). Cooked fresh and really tasty. Portions are huge (bordering on ridiculous). I’d definitely recommend the regular rather than large. And, even then, you could split the chips between two to three people. (I’m a big guy and can eat). It’s a bit on the pricey side.

Lived in Holland on sea for 14 years - tried all the fish and chip shops across Clacton - Pete’s stands up to them all !! Great food and prices - go for lunch specials. Lovely people too !

My husband and I were so impressed with this Fish and Grill shop. My husband chose Fish and chips, really good portion and the fish was huge, fresh and tasty. I chose the chicken shish on pitta. Pete cooked it fresh and the amount of chicken breast in the pitta was amazing. With this came a little pot of salad and I had the offer of a number of sauces I opted for tomato. Delicious and well worth the money. So impressed I went back in to tell him how much I enjoyed it and said I was going to leave a review on here. If we return to Holland on sea I will definitely head back to Petes for food

Pete’s is the best in Clacton. Tried others but they don’t compare. Quality is always good and freshly cooked. Portions are plentiful. Staff are always friendly and helpful.

Ordered cod and chips , Fish was the size of a small sausage, phoned them up because I thought that they had got my order wrong. Can’t believe it was so small. Will not be going back. Poor value for money

Two regular cod & chips to eat on the cliff top at Holland on sea. Cooked while I waited and the result was absolutely fantastic, the crispest batter and a lovely piece of fish with very good chips. Never been in Pete’s before but will definitely be back for more.

I walked in thinking it was a customer leaving at the door and the gentleman held the door open, it turned out he worked there. If Pete was the gentleman cooking he was a pleasure to speak to and the food was as fresh as it comes. Ladies and gentlemen, all these businesses are struggling with high gas and electricity prices, much higher than you have at home as the government put bo cap on for business like they did home bills. Had large Rock, regular chips and a curry sauce. Fish was cooked fresh the chips was like fried mash and the curry was done in the microwave. Basically all I ate was the fish needless to say ill never use again. I gave 1 star because I couldn't give zero

I am on holiday at valley farm and the on site chippy was closed so googled and found Pete’s. It was almost closing time but the guys cooked me fresh chips to go with a chicken and mushroom pie - both delicious. They were chatty and friendly and I will be recommending to other holiday makers!

Just had my first takeaway delivery from Pete’s OMG there was enough there for four people, food (kebab mix) absolutely delicious and delivery though a little bit over stated time, delivered with a smile, excellent. Would not hesitate to order from there again, but must be super hungry 🤤

I'm working here for a few days.. Ordered cod roe, haddock,chips....all good! Have not tried their kebabs yet but coming from a Turkish and Greek area in North London,it would probably fall short. Great prices and very tasty. Can't complain and will remember it next time I'm around. Good staff too!

Went here for some food, didn't expect a laurel & hardy experience, ordered 2 doner kebabs and 2 saveloys, the doner kebab needed more colour, it was edible just wrong shade of cooked, a member of staff had to run to the co-op to get a lettuce as asda had none and two more customers wanted kebab, one customer complained that his delivery the previous night was abysmal so he came in tonight and ordered the exact same meal and was charged .50p more, being told prices went up and they had to charge more, and to cap it all me saveloys came out of the microwave, the dog was not amused (lol). Honestly they were trying however it was comedy worth the wait.

My favourite fiah and chip shop in the Clacton-on-Sea / holland area. Great value for money, freshly cooked food, polite staff and good soft drinks choice.

Just wanted to point out that a lot of the negative reviews on here are NOT honest reviews. Most are made by other competing fish and chip shops in the local area trying to tarnish this business' well respected reputation, and the other few are from ex disgruntled employees. Anyone who uses Pete's Fish and Grill knows the excellent quality they deliver, also their prices are some of the fairest in all of Holland-On-Sea. I find it appaling that people can leave a negative review because they attempt to buy food at peak times when things are busy and are made to wait a little longer than expected.

The worst food I have ever eaten (Tried to) Politely rang today and asked to speak to the owner rather than going in with other customers present, The person I spoke to said "wants to speak to you" I heard a voice saying to him tell them the owners not here .(The phone was put down on me) Having been a regular customer disappointed that last night we ordered our normal Cod and Chips and a battered sausage, after driving a couple of miles home opened the box to discover the items were almost cold and oil was dripping out of the box. After plating up the items and preparing to eat discovered that the chips were soggy and not cooked properly , the batter on the sausage and fish didn't appear to be cooked and when I tasted the fish the white cod was brown and tasted like rancid fat. In all honesty after having an upset stomach for the last 15 hours thought I would ring the boss to see if they had a problem and maybe he hadn't been here last night. (Not for a freebie or refund) but trying to help as we never had this problem before. Make your own conclusion now as to the type of person you are buying from. Sorry you asked for it and lost a local customer. In Reply to the owner then who was Pete that served my wife?

Had cod and chips, came up big. Chips were abit dry, it was ok.

Pie was soggy pastry and bottom wasn't cooked at all (being microwaved may not have helped) Chips weren't all cooked inside. Waste of money and time waiting.

Ordered large cod & it was tiny, have caught bigger minos, otherwise no complaints. Size matters hence 4stars. Delivery was fantastic & food was still piping hot.

Good food and portion sizes. All ways seems busy when I go here. They are on some of the food apps and you can phone the order in advance which I would recommend if you don't like to wait, it's not that there slow it's that they have a good reputation and are busy. Treat yourself to the home made calamarie it is great.

Due to Covid restrictions I tried to place my order over the phone to save time... after being put on hold for 6 minutes I gave up and called into the shop and placed my order in person. Sadly this was my first and last visit, not impressed by the service or the average fish and chips.

The food was okay but the service was some of the worst that I have ever experienced. The staff were complaining about their drivers, swearing about customers and were sarcastic within earshot of the patrons. They openly criticised anyone that they felt deserved it, including me. I had placed a simple order of sausage and chips which they managed to get this wrong which I didn't inform them of. I thought it was just best to take it and leave for fear of further ridicule. Clearly I won't be going back.

Five star meals when Pete the owner is there. He listens properly when you give your order. Very friendly and has that personal touch as if you are the only customer. We always request our kebab meat to be cooked 'well done' And we get what we want. When Pete isnt there the staff forget and we are left disappointed. Pete was there on Saturday and the kebab was amazing! Meat perfect! Salad very fresh and chips great! We live in London and visit Holland on Sea when we can and always order from Pete's :)

Food was ok but they forgot the salad, sauce and bread roll.

I ordered a chicken shish, the assistant asked me if I wanted salad and I said yes please. She also asked me what sauce I would like and I said garlic sauce please. My wife ordered a fish feast and we ordered a kids meal for our daughter. We got home and I had no salad and no sauce in my kebab, my wife had no bread roll with her fish feast and our daughter's kids meal didn't come with a toy which it used to. Food was nice but a bit annoyed about all the things they'd forgotten.

Absolutely horrible food got spicy chicken kebab said it'll be 15 minutes waited 30 got it home and it was horrible salad was chopped up not shredded and hardly any of it will never go back there again

Worst fish a chip shop I’ve ever been too they charged me £4 for a battered sausage and a small chips. I waited 25 minutes. You might as well just go to Collins or golden fillet better quilty and taste for cheaper. Collins fish a chips is so much cheaper

Was looking forward to kebab n chips but so disappointed the kebab meat was overcooked n dry it was supposed to be chicken but in all honesty it could have been anything oh and no garlic mayo sauce! Definitely wouldn't recommended and definitely won't be going back there

Petes Fish and grill is by far the best around! You cannot beat it. Ordered the meat feast, and what a delicious feast it was! This is my mum and dads favourite too! 15/9/20 - Staying locally in Holland-on-sea, fancied a chippy tea so took a stroll to Pete’s. Freshly cooked food, absolutely delicious! Sat outside in the evening sun to eat. Friendly, efficient staff, top quality food. Highly recommended 👍🏻

First time I have purchased from Pete's fish n grill, It was pure chance I was driving pass and fancied just some chips, pulled up and was greeted by Pete who suggested the lunch time menu as it was 2pm , so I had burger n chips, £2.50 I wasn't expecting much but wow, the chips were amazing, crispy outside and fluffy in the middle as they should be, then the burger with cheese and onion, which I had raw and this was delicious, I know this is a long review on such a small purchase but I've got to hand it to this chap ,what a great deal and it tasted excellent, definitely the place I'll be going a lot. Oh and service even better so thanks Pete definitely 5 stars.

Absolutely delicious & cooked to perfection!

We are looking to move to Holland-on-Sea later this year and have been checking out the local shops. We decided on fish and chips early yesterday evening and had cod and chips as a takeaway. The food was freshly cooked, piping hot and good value for money and was delicious. THe staff were friendly and helpful. We'll be back.

when we moved to Holland on sea 2 years ago now we went to Pete's for fish and chips on our first night and we have had Pete's fish and chips every Friday since. Lovely food and always cooked fresh .

Asked for cod no batter so they grilled it. Was told 5 minutes wait but was more like 15-20mins wait. When l got home and looked at my fish the colour was grey, it smelt horrendous and looked like sludge. Took one mouthful and spat it out!! Gave the fish to my dog when it was cool and unfortunately she was ill the next day. Never will l go there again or recommend this place to anyone.

Excellent customer service, value for money.

The meals from this take away and restaurant are second to none they are freshly cooked to order and extremely good value. I especially have the lunch time meal and they deliver to your door. Very highly recommend a visit, you wont be disappointed.

We live just around the corner and regularly get our weekend takeaway from Pete’s. The chips are really nice and there is a good selection of fish, chicken, kebabs, burger etc. Pete’s mixed grill is really good value and our go to choice. Well worth a visit.

Won’t be bothering no more ,if it’s delivered cold the owner just says it was hot in his hand ,well I ate it and it was barely warm,still the owner must be right .Give it a one because can’t post otherwise,by the way if you want to get back to me then I’ll have more to say
