Toko Diner in Merton

Had the Chicken Katsu Bento box and Spicy Salmon Sushi for dinner. Was very generous in size and delicious. Thank you for the great food and service. Dined in and enjoyed!

I’ve been to toko diner many years ago with my children (2only). And went again recently and the lady remembered us! Abd I introduced my further two children. and I remembered her son. She’s such a lovely lady…as is her son (well he’s a lovely young MAN now and great waiter). Service and atmosphere was great as we were the only sit in customers there. Time to get food was good. The food itself was amazing! Tasty, natural, hot and impressive portions. The ramen soup was so big my son took the rest home. Seems a lot of people do takeaway (as they were busy with takeaway orders) but I feel people are missing out by not dining in here. It’s so lovely. Also had Chinese music playing. Love it!

Went out for a birthday dinner with some friends, my first time there, friendly service.

Average Chinese food. Unfortunately the service was poor. The waiters would keep saying no if you order the same dish twice at the same time. We had booked a table for 14 but notified the restaurant 2 would come a little late. When the had arrived, they had not ordered anything at all but ate from the food already on the table. They then got charged for 2 meals even though they did not order from there. Very disappointing 👎🏾

It would be good if on delivery sites you would add pictures and menu description. Not all of us know what the names in the menu means

This is a gem of a venue for dinner! Fantastic service when I recently dined in and previously, prompt and well packaged takeaway/delivery. I'd highly recommend their starters and noodle mains! Great flavour, freshly cooked and the portion sizes are very generous! Dining in, Christina the waitress and the owner Lyn are very hospitable, welcoming and attentive. The restaurant has been there for quite some time and does a brisk service of deliveries. If you can, dine in and enjoy the food fresh from the kitchen. This really is my favourite Chinese restaurant in London!

the salmon sushi roll was so yummy and it had finely sliced ginger beside it, I am not a fan of ginger but that ginger was the best ginger I've eaten. It was so thin and like a refreshment in your mouth not too strong, the salmon hand roll is definitely worth it

Ordered delivery and it showed up an hour late. I could only have parts of it as I had to leave. But what I had wasn’t great. I’d stay away and order elsewhere. They claimed “he just left” when I called but then it was another 40 mins until it arrived. Ok sushi but nothing to write home about, and definitely not worth the ridiculous wait for it.

Eaten here several times. Food is tasty and very generous portions. The manager is always very attentive and friendly. It is quiet for eat in so haven't struggled to get a table before.

Ordered for take out. Avoid Sushi and starters. Not sure if the mains are better. But personally I won't order again.

I really enjoy the food here and would go back over and over again if it wasn’t for one major issue for me. I haven’t been here for a few years but I think it is very important for the owners of Toko to know where they are going so wrong. So Toko do two types of main menus one is a la carte where you pay for individual items. There is no problem when ordering this because you are paying for each item and the more you buy the more it costs which means more money for them. However the other menu is the a la carte buffet menu where they charge around £25 per person and you order off of their buffet menu which is supposed to be eat as much as you like. Although it is an all you can eat buffet the lady there always argues against why I shouldn’t order something. I have had the buffet 3 times now and it is really unpleasant, embarrassing and disrespectful. I have given them 3 chances but still their behaviour is unacceptable. Please note that whatever my friends and I order we demolish so no wastage at all. Also when I pressed hard once that I wanted a dish it came out and it was burnt. This was really upsetting. The staff’s whole attitude forces me to give a poor rating sadly. This place could do sooo well and it is unsurprising that the place is always empty due to their attitude. It just feels like they are more concerned about making their money rather than customer satisfaction. Won’t be going back in a hurry but would go back maybe in a few years, definitely not for their buffet though! Very sad because I could give this place a lot of business because I have lots of friends and family who I would take there.

dont go there its false advertising as we came for sushi and they say when we get there dont have enough for rice. we didnt get what we paid for which is illegal. dont go there

Overall, a great place to eat! Very welcoming staff, amazing fresh food, and reasonable prices. If you ever come, I recommend the vegetables spring rolls. One of the best I’ve had. Thanks for the great service Toko :).

Food was awful and the worse we have had! No flavour and the sweet and sour chicken balls were over cooked! We will never order from here again

Ooooh lovely place with delicious food. They feed me until I'm fat, praise my average children, we have a smiling competition with the owners, I love this little restaurant, feels like home!

Great place, lovely food and very attentive

The gyozas are clearly frozen Wing Yip. Bland food. Zero taste in the ramen, literally plain vegetable stock with unseasonal tofu and noodles. Katsu sauce was just curry sauce. Absolutely tastless and not worth the money. Only good thing was the speed of delivery by Uber Eats and that it arrived hotm

Andrew,Christina and Andrew's wife are so friendly and accommodating 😀 The Spring Rolls are the Best in London,the Pineapple / banana Fritters were so tasty,I could eat some more right now....and we Always receive a free mint at the end of meal Everything which is nice 😁 The Chinese Tea I will recommend to anyone,I guarantee after 20 minutes you will be falling asleep feeling soooooooo relaxed. Great Job Toko...we visit twice a week but don't worry if there is a lockdown we Will Order LOTS of Takeaway but will miss the tranquil music and electric atmosphere..... Hong Kong style sweet and sour chicken was one of the best I've had, and garlic fried rice was aromatic

Ordered through Just Eat, they sent out two orders at the same time to secure delivery time and delivered our 30+ mins late. Food was just about warm, not great in taste and customer service was awful when I called to find out where my food was. Will absolutely NOT be ordering from them again and would advise against anybody ordering from them in the future.

My daughter ordered a home delivery lunch time yesterday which was disappointing. Everything was covered in oil, the Tempura was so soggy with it, it left an unpleasant aftertaste. All of the dishes were bland, insipid and unpalatable. When she complained to the restaurant, they were totally unhelpful , offering her a discount when she ordered next! It was an expensive birthday meal and totally ruined by their lack of respect when dealing with a complaint. Only order from this restaurant if you have a strong stomach.

I rang up and placed an order over £25 - yet when I asked for the offer where you get a beer and free prawn crackers was told this no longer existed and had to spend £35 to get this. I would only receive free prawn crackers. Was told their website isn’t updated and as a new customer I was surprised they don’t honour their offers. I won’t ever use this restaurant and will not recommend this to others

Myself and my colleagues have been going here for years - eat in and take away. It is a hidden gem in Morden. Staff are absolutely lovely and the food is always full of flavour and portions are generous. Give it a try.

I can not believe the other reviews...perhaps they don't know good food around here unless it's unlimited and accompanied by Kareoke .. The food is always amazing and great value here ... Ok when they do get busy they do struggle but the chef will not compromise on how long a dish should be prepared... Something simple like the plain noodles and beanspouts are a delight.. some of the best I've ever had. The Absolute Udon (or Ramen if you prefer) is fantastic for less than £8 !!! I will continue to support this great restaurant that really should be in the middle of a clicky town... But then it wouldn't be a great find... Enjoy

Haven't been for a while. Food was disappointing, which is a shame as we have always enjoyed are meals here in the past. Hopefully it's a one off. Will give it a try again.

I ordered my meal from Just Eat at 6.35. The delivery was estimated between 45 minutes to a hour. After the order had gone through I was informed the restaurant had increased delivery time by 20 minutes. At 7.50 I called the restaurant to be told the food was on its way. It actually arrived at 8.32 almost 2 hours later. The sushi we ordered was dry and tasteless. The teriyaki bento box contained 2 small spring rolls, A salad that was partially cooked! The Teriyaki chicken consisted of a piece of dry chicken breast with a small amount of Teriyaki sauce poured over. The rice was also dry and unseasoned completely tasteless. We also ordered the Katsu chicken bento box which was just the same with wafer thin dry breaded chicken. The Miso soup was inedible and went straight down the sink. All in all a waste of £25... never again!

I ordered from here on Christmas Eve and was quite disappointed, especially as had good feedback on Hungry House. I ordered the Chicken Katsu Bento, Salmon Advacado Hand Roll and Prawn Tempura Maki. In the bento came 2 spring rolls if you could call it that was basically fried pancake with 1 bean sprout. Sushi is was ok, but I've had better. Ok for £17 but better places for Japense to eat just as shame they were closed of Christmas Eve

We often order from here and we have been for a while. Our usual favourite is the pad Thai, chilli pepper corn squid and Singapore noodles. They are good value for money, service has usually been pretty good, if anything is wrong with the food you can call and explain any bad experiences you have they are usually good to change stuff to make it right. I know they changed their chef a couple of times so I think for a little while the food wasn’t great. A couple of our orders were bad. So i complained to management and they were sympathetic about it and food has been pretty good since then.

Have been coming here for a few years now and it never fails to impress. The Sunday buffet is incredible value for the quality and selection of food available with great friendly service. The food covers everything from Sushi, Thai and Chinese.

Awful awful food. Delivery 25 min late , spring rolls looked like a pancake . Salmon in bento box the size of a 2mm thickness and burnt on the edges. Rice soaked in oil and flavourless. Chilli ribs never seen the chilli and were rubbery and oily. The best thing we received were the house noodles and prawn crackers. Stay away from this place .

Good Chinese food at a reasonable price

My family have had two takeaways from heroes we decided to try the restaurant It does not disappoint, the food is so fresh, flavoursome and delivered with excellent service. We had the buffet which is nit a buffet at all juts my boys eating as much as they liked off the menu. Highly recommend

We loved Mizu it couldn't have presented itself at a better time. We were on the motorway travelling back to Surrey from Grreat Yarmouth. Do have to say the restaurant looked closed from the front. My husband went to reds this menu for another time and found it was open. Restaurant was clean staff were very pleasant and the food arrived quickly hot and tasty. We will definitely stop there again as it is a trip we do regularly to visit parents.

We have used this restaurant regularly over the last few years, for intimate dinners, quick evening or lunchtime meals, family celebrations and just to be with friends. The service is always good and the staff wanting to please. The food is excellent.

Easy to get to, only 5 min walk from the tube. Lovely fresh sushi, great wine, quick and friendly service.

As part of the group of 8 from the review posted below, i have re-downloaded the trip advisor app solely to share how poor our experience was.with regards to the starters, one person ordered the squid and one person ordered spring rolls. the waitress also suggested a portion of prawn toast to which we agreed as a couple of us were up for a piece.When the starters were served, we were presented with the various dishes we ordered and two platter sized plates placed at each end of the table absolutely rammed with squid, spring rolls and prawn toast. The squid took up half of each of the huge plates (baring in mind only one person within the group liked squid)... now i would never consider too much food as a point to complain about (better to be looking at it than looking for it), however - when the table was getting cleared of the starters (some 40 minutes later), we were then told not to order many mains due to how much we had wasted! Throughout the starters the kitchen staff were serving up a banquet to an unpopulated table which we found strange being the only people in the restaurant. When the waitress began to clear away the starters, i pulled her aside and asked if we could order our mains as we were pushed for time due to parking. The main waitress then appeared looking ready to take our order. She took down the first order for crispy duck and turned to me, before i could tell her my order she said: "Do you mind we are actually about to have our dinner, i do extra crispy duck for you to share which you eat slowly as we will only be about 15 minutes"... gobsmacked, we sat for a few minutes prior to another two platter sized plates of duck appearing shortly followed by the small army of staff appearing from the kitchen for their feast. 20 minutes passed watching those who ordered the duck pick at their food - (apparently it wasnt great and it looked very moist for something described as crispy).. we then summonded the waitress over again, as we now only had about 15 minutes left on our parking saying that we needed to leave so had to order the remaining mains. She took the rest of the orders (baring in mind those who had the duck were now finished and ready to leave) and we waited. My main arrived very quickly and as a side i ordered an egg fried rice to share with my significant other to which a rather large plate turned up moments after. No more than a minute later, another plate of egg fried rice appeared so we moved it up the table for others to share. Then ANOTHER plate arrived to which i said we only ordered one portion! The waitress bluntly replied "its ok you share!"..To be honest it felt like they were just trying to fill us up on the sides so that we wouldnt order any further dishes as the rules stated on the menu were to finish whats on the table prior to ordering more. Anyway, not a single person of the party was impressed with their mains, none of it tasted like any of the food served in the chinese restaurants local to us. We swiftly asked for the bill (by this time we had sent somebody to move the car as our 90 minute parking was up). There was mountains of food left over and whilst paying, the waitress was talking in chinese to another sounding angry and pointing at us. The only thing pleasant about the visit was the price but for the service i wouldnt have been happy even if they paid me!Will not return.

We arrived at this restaurant around 4pm as a group of 8. We had starters which was fine but they said we need to not order as much as we left some food, however it was their fault as we had only ordered one portion of each and they had decided to bring lots out. We then ordered duck for 3 people and some of my friends went to order their mains and was told and I quote "you must eat the duck slowly as we are about to have our dinner, which will be around 15 minutes" We were all in shock! Only 3 of us wanted duck so others were just sat there, we could not leave the car for long so we said that we had to order now due to the car only having an hour until the time ran out on the meter. The mains came out, they then went from one extreme to another, they brought so much food out and it was all tasteless and smelt like a wet dog. We had to leave so much food in the end and just pay. I would not recommend this restaurant.

This is my 3rd review of the Toko Diner. The first was in November 2013 and it got 5, then in November 2014, it got 4 and in September 2016, it has fallen to 3 or average and I think, that may even being generous.We went on Friday lunch time and we both had their two course £5.95 lunch with two different starters and two different mains. A part from one man eating we were the only customers, so its not over busy and some music was playing, that had a Japanese feel to it.Our plates looked like they had not been well rinsed and my plate was chipped, which I asked to be changed and it was. One of us has a food allergy and when we asked if an ingredient was in any of the food, it was not straightforward to get confirmation, but we finally did get an understanding. The food arrived quickly. Starters: The spare ribs, were very fatty and some people like them like that. The meat dumplings were OK.Mains: The rice dish was bland and not much more than rice with chilli oil and the Singapore noodle dish was a bit more interesting, but I've had better in lots of places.The loo needs freshening up.So to summarize, a disappointing lunch and nothing to write home about :(

We have been ordering regularly from Toko for years. This evening my daughter had to complain about her duck pancakes (which is usual but on this occasion the dish consisted mainly of fat which was unacceptable)so she went into the restaurant and was literally verbally attacked (in a language she didn't understand) by the older woman behind the till in front of other customers - so much so that she started wagging her finger in my daughter's face!!! This is a shocking way to treat any customer - especially a regular paying customer who has a valid complaint. If I could have left no stars i would have - be wary. We certainly will never be ordering from them again!

Went in for some lunch today. Chose from the set menu of two courses for £5.95 a head. I had chicken satay and beef fried noodles, Adam had dumplings and chicken pad Thai. Waitress was friendly, food arrived quickly and was tasty and filling. We had a coke each so came to under £15 and we were both stuffed. Was pretty quiet as Wednesday lunchtime, so little atmosphere but that didn't bother us. Nothing fancy but pretty good, cheap food. We will definitely go back for the buffet one evening.

Ordered a delivery 2 items a set meal and some sashimi but they phoned me saying they couldn't offer the set meal. WHATS THE POINT ?

My favourite sushi place. Perfect sushi and not to forget the salt pepper squid-to die for. The hot dishes are freshly prepared, thai curries (paste) must be made from scratch as fresh and authentic flavours are there. I go here everytime I visit London and I feel sorry for you if you have not tried their food.

We came here on a Sunday evening and drive past it 3 times. Sign wasn't very visible. We had Ramen which was delicious and also Gyoza. Would definitely return or order take out.

Loved it. Excellent food(ramen), and the place is gorgeous with a nice atmosphere. The price is very good in comparison to other Japanese restaurants. Definitely everyone should give at least one try.

I have been using Toko Restaurant for take away and eat in for almost 4 years now, if i am not mistaken. No doubt on of the best in London. The prices are fair and the food are amazing! everyone i take for dinner or lunch there, the love it!

Been eating lunch at this place for year, nice food, good value for lunch. Staff are friendly and the food is always cooked quickly

I come here sometimes for lunch and order from the special 2 course lunch menu, which at just over £5 is great value as the main course is huge. A good selection of Chinese and Japanese food is available on the main menu, plus a smaller but varied selection for the lunch deal.Drinks are a bit pricey though, but our juices were freshly squeezed from the fruit so almost worth the money.

Been a couple of times and it's always quiet, intimidatingly so. However it's a good night with friends if you want food and lots of it. Not a traditional buffet as you order a plate of food at a time and can not order until you've finished the first. System is a bit different but it works ok. Drinks are super expensive

Definitely our new take away.Was lucky enough to be taken out the back to see fresh chicken breast being cut up to make there own chicken balls where normally these are bought in.Food is great slightly expensive but paying that bit more for quality.

I have left half of my noodle dish uneaten as it was rather badly cooked. I give this 2 out of 5 points. My wife had the chicken and salmon roll bento box. Within such the salad leafs was dry and brown, the seaweed wrap for the salmon roll was soggy and the roll was squeezed too hard and they did look like leftover to me. Chicken was blend mixed with bottle teriyaki sauce. I give this 1 out of 5 points. Starter was chicken satay that the chicken was nice but was not cover with satay sauce. So 3 out of 5 points. Overall 2 of 5.

I love noodle better than rice and bread but I have left half of the noodle dish uneaten as it was rather bad. My wife had chicken and sushi bent box. Within the meal box she did not touch the salad as the leafs look dry and not fresh. She ate one piece of sushi out of eight as the seaweed wrap was soggy and they look like leftovers. I was shocked as she is a sushi lover. The chicken was blend. It was boiled and was simple mixed with bottle teriyaki sauce. However the satay chicken starter was up to standard. So overall I give this visit 2 out of 5 points.

Delicious food, in large portions.

Okay this is no Michelin starred restaurant but it delivers brilliantly on the need for a fresh sushi 'fix' somewhere local at an affordable price. Great midweek treat for me & my boyfriend, usually nice and quiet and they have a nice Korean menu too.

I used to have lunch regularly at toko before changing jobs and recently had lunch there for the first time in ages. I was so looking forward to the teriyaki salmon Don bowl and I was not disappointed! The food here is scrummy and the portion sizes generous, though to be honest they're not the cheapest either!Our service wasn't the best if I'm honest, it took quite a while to get the bill. The two menus were quite confusing and the waitress seemed very confused too! I will however forgive them this as its a rare treat for me and the quality of the food more than compensates. Extensive Japanese and Chinese menu.

Had my order cancelled on just eat, rang the restaurant to find out why and its because I'm too far. Funny that they've delivered to me before!! First time was late with delivery, second time food arrived cold! Find somewhere else or save your money!!

Love the food, salmon sashimi is the best! We used to get it weekly for months but have reduced down to once every two months, food never disappoints!

Ok I have made several reviews about this place, I do have to admit every single time it has been great food (and surprisingly also the service except the one occasion), but nobody really goes to a chinese place for the service, its all about the food and that is what this place is all about.,., great food and decent prices and the manageress does smile a lot more, so thats a plus( maybe she was just having a off day that one occasion). Anyway I will be heading back for the best chilli & pepper squid and chicken katsu and yaki soba/udon...etc

I went there with a 'Taste Card' to get a 50% discount. At that price the food was an absolute bargain. At full price I would say it is good, but nothing special. It's not far from 'Noodle Foodle' on Merton road, which I personally think is much better. Good food. Nice staff. Nice atmosphere. Slightly pricy. worth a try.

We are regulars at this place, this time we went with some friends.We ordered the food, my wife ordered the yaki soba. The food arrived and as she started eating she found black hair! Called the lady over, who is the manager or owner she examined the food and said yes its a hair and its a mans hair. My wife said yes it must be your chef! she did apologise and asked if she wanted something else and she said no as it totally put her off!When the bill arrived we were charged the full price of the"hairy"meal. I had to tell the the owner that we are regulars and shouldn't really have to pay for a dish with hair init, her excuse was that the dish was nearly finished and no replacement was needed, so in her books this meant all was well,anyway after a bit more chatting she reluctantly gave us £3 off the £5.80 dish, I think her day was ruined by that feeble gesture. Anyway not wanting to make a further scene we paid the £60+ bill but didn't leave a tip, we like the food but won't be going back, I think the hunt for a better Japanese/Chinese place is on.
