McChina Eating in Merton

We went to McChina at about 7:15pm for my dad's birthday. We ordered starters first which took about 1hr to come and then they rushed the main course through. Don't get me wrong the food is good but the service is poor. We ordered two other beers, they never came but then they tried to charge us for these. No Apology just a comment from the owner to come back on a Thursday when it's quieter. You should be able to deal with the customer flow everyday of the week and not blame it on increased deliveries.

Didn’t dine in so can’t comment on that, am reviewing a takeaway. Am veggie so ordered the salt and pepper tofu. Absolutely vile. Gloopy and bland. The tofu pieces looked to be held together with glue. It was possible to pick one piece up with a fork and have two extra pieces dangling linked to the first piece by some sort of gluey looking thread. Put in the bin. Don’t order. It was vile

We ordered Kung Po Chicken, Singapore Rice Noodles, Egg Fried Rice, Chicken and Black Bean, and Prawn Toast The Kung Po Chicken had a pleasant amount of spice, though it wasn’t battered or fried like some other versions. The Singapore Rice Noodles were flavorful with a nice kick. The Chicken and Black Bean dish was tasty and enjoyable. The Prawn Toast was quite standard but still nice. The restaurant itself is very new and clean, with a modern design that allows you to see right into the kitchen. However, we did find the wait time to be quite long.

If you want to eat the same day as ordering, go somewhere else. The journey is a 6 minute drive. It took over an hour and a half to get a basic order.

Food was very tasty and big potions. The best Chinese restaurant I have been to. Everything was in point. I even purchased food to take home.

What a pleasant surprise, this place is busy on weekends and the food is very fresh and very good, you have to wait quite a bit for it to be delivered to your table since it is cooked fresh. The waiters are very nice and friendly and attentive. My only criticism is the high prices. Plain rice for £8 in zone 3 is criminal!!! The egg fried rice was disappointing because it’s the same as the plain rice but had one yellow string of egg through it, no veggies.

I have been a loyal customer to mcchina for years now and can honestly say it’s one of the two best Chinese restaurants in the area. I prefer delivery at times as it’s nice not to see how slow service can be when you’re hungry and waiting in the restaurant for your food to come. Overall, the quality of food is very good. Staff listen carefully to your requests. Ambience is nice. Wait time can be extremely long but I’ll put that down to the freshness of the food. Delivery is very handy but can sometimes take longer than they initially tell you. I think they need to be a little more generous with sauces and condiments especially when making big orders I.e. duck and pancakes. I have to tell them to fill up to the top as it isn’t enough and hope I’m not charged extra. I feel certain items like seaweed (8.40£) is shockingly expensive for what it is and also things like salt and chilli chips that are almost 6£. Otherwise, staff are friendly but would appreciate to not be made to feel bad when I have an honest review about my chilli shredded beef. I am a fan of mcchina overall and always advertise it when I go. Prices have increased and some maybe not as justifiable but the food is tasty and fresh so I’ll give them that. Always happy to return.

McChina has got a lot better than the last time I have been. The food was better, service was very good and it was reasonably priced. One of the better restaurants in the Wimbledon area. Give it a try of you've never been.

A superb Chinese. Best BBQ ribs ever.

We got a takeaway from SW19 McChina branch. The duck with pancakes were ok tho the duck was a bit dry and overcooked. Also ordered the lemon chicken and egg fried rice both were awful. Chicken so hard we could not cut it and had to pick up the pieces and chew on it. Basically tasteless and didn’t like the pour on plastic flavoured ‘lemon’ sauce. Rice stodgy, over cooked and moulded to the plastic container. Waste of money - do do not order their food.

Pocket-friendly Chinese food. Their mains are the best - tasty, well cooked, not too greasy. Glad that you're based in Wimbledon!

Found this place on tik tok of course and was not disappointed. Food was good. No issues at all. Will be back. I wouldn’t get the salt and pepper veg again. Too much aubergine!!!

It’s very hard to find a Chinese place outside of your local that you’re not skeptical of ordering from because you’re scared you might feel sick afterwards. But this proceeds all of those thoughts and barriers; it’s a great Chinese place and their food is seemingly freshly made and not too greasy like your typical would be if you were to have the same amount of food that we had—which spoilers was a a lot. The service was also exceptional; all the waiters were very kind and very nice and the vibe of the restaurant itself was very welcoming. From a place that beat a lawsuit against McDonald’s, they don’t need to be ‘nice’ per se and they can just use that reputation of beating a giant to just to what they want. But no, this place is amazing and smashed all expectations out of the water. I would definitely recommend to anyone thinking about going there reading this; however I will be gatekeeping it from all my friends. I will definitely be coming back especially since I work nearby!!

Portions too small, especially the soup, and when I am ordering takeaway the cashier always try to rip you off. When they say so my English is not that great, they understand it 100%

Wow what has happened to Mc China we visited recently and left feeling ripped off, the prices are just ridiculously expensive, we get it, post Covid businesses have put there prices up but come on Mc China this is just crazy, when have you charged £12 for six chicken Balls, £2 each 🤪 £8.75 for small bowl of rice, We used to love coming regularly to your restaurant because it was good value for money but not anymore sorry Mc China.

A bit pricey but the food and service is good.

Been ordering from Mchina for over 20 years and can quite easily say it’s the best Chinese food you can possibly get from anywhere in London. Yes it’s more expensive than others but it’s not made in a filthy environment and always fresh and always tasty.

Can’t put zero stars but I want too!!! Absolutely disgusting service!!!!!! Called twice for an update and after being told the food was on route, I questioned again whether they were telling the truth. The man laughed on the phone saying “yeah I can’t lie anymore, your food hasn’t left”. Embarrassing and horrendous people!!!

First class as always. Such a lovely family run restaurant, always consistent. Shame we no longer live nearby but always visit when in the vicinity. Never changed, always great.

I won’t give a bad review because I have been going here for years and don’t believe in trolling a family run business and the people are Lovley but something has changed in the kitchen the food has dropped in standards. If you could please look into it I now live in Battersea and I still travel to get your food. It’s just tonight was not how I usually have it X

It was my 70th birthday and I had booked in advance, which was fortunate as it was also Father’s Day’, so the restaurant was quite busy. There were eight of us, including 3 children and when eating at McChina’s we like to have lots of starters. The Capital spare ribs are sublime and I could eat the sauce with rice on its own it’s so good. The deep fried squid was perfectly cooked, as in other restaurants I’ve had it overcooked and it’s like eating elastic bands, but not in McChina as it was amazing and tender, with just the right texture. The aromatic duck (which is a family favourite) was so good, with lots of juicy duck and plenty of pancakes. We have been eating at McChina for 20+ years and it never disappoints and while we love having ‘takeaway’ from there, when you eat in the restaurant it’s on another level, so if you haven’t tried eating in, do give it a try. The service was excellent and very attentive, despite it being a very busy Sunday lunch. If we are out of the area and eat Chinese food we always judge it against McChina Eating, and in 20 years nothing has ever come close to it. What else can I say, the food is piping hot, the sauces are plentiful and the tastes are always amazing.

PLACE GONE DOWN HILL. I went for a lunch time meal deal which isn’t really a deal anyway as it’s so expensive for what you get!! Food was OLD AND STALE!! Asked to change received awful customer service from the main lady who works there after I refused to eat the old food she still charged me £7 for a 7 up and spring roll lol!!! This place is a joke

The restaurant is lovely, beautiful ambience and the staff are extremely polite. The food is FRESH, no MSG here, this is clean chinese food and it's delicious. We had Singapore Vermicelli Noods, sweet and sour prawns cantonese style, chicken chow mien and sesame prawn toasts. We were going to order takeaway but it looked so good we're glad we stayed!

Great service, food freshly cooked. I would highly recommend this place.

Ribs were very dry unfortunately and had almost no meat on them were not made fresh to order. That being said it's always decent but was very let down by the ribs. Will be very cautious if ordering again.

I really cannot understand the bad reviews here…I’ve been going to Mc China for over 10 years and never once had bad service! And the food is very good yes can be a bit expensive but it’s worth it.

I have been here maybe 4-5 times. It's true it isn't the cheapest but I'm never disappointed. The staff/family who run this place are always so nice and the food is just lovely. I don't understand the negative reviews, Ive taken family here and have never had a negative thing to say about this place.

Absolutely zero spice or flavourings in their chicken/cashew which is labelled “hot” quite literally no seasoning at all.

Absolutely terrible service, unbelievably overpriced food was absolutely rubbish used to be good to say that it’s gone downhill is an understatement zero stars.

Service was very poor. My food was serviced about 15-20mins after the rest of my family and had no sauce on it ( no explanation give) tried to call staff several times to reorder a drink and ask why there was no sauce on my food ( they could not hear or see us) . We ordered ice cream 5/10 mins later we were told they did not have the flavour we ordered. One of my party ordered fritters they came back and said we would have to wait 30 mins as they were busy. Customer service was very poor and I asked for the service charge to be removed. We will not come here again. We usually order take away but my son wanted to visit the restaurant. My son really enjoyed the food. My daughter said her chicken tasted funny but that was down to her taste buds. My fish had no sauce on it. My husband enjoyed his meal

Honestly the best Chinese you’ll ever have, no exaggeration. Highly recommend the chicken fried rice, 1/4 duck, smoked shredded chicken and curries. Been going to this place for at least 15 years. But sadly, it is definitely one of the most expensive Chinese’s and cannot afford to go there as often as I used to :(

Unfortunately way to expensive for Mediocre food Wanted to make this my go to Chinese restaurant, To be honest what i had to eat And the barely mediocre food and cheap tasting pineapple/coconut drink I felt cheated Sorry Guy's won't be returning or recommending.

Went last night as we are working at national Grid Wimbledon, the staff are friendly, the food is cooked to order and is hot, very tasty, and of excellent quality, had a lovely chat with the chef who came and had a chat with everyone in the restaurant, we are here 2 weeks each month till January 24 and WILL BE VISITING AGAIN thank you for a wonderful night out.

Had some takeaway delivered. The food was delicious. Beautifully presented. Excellent portions. Will be ordering from McChina again.

The food was tasteless and greasy, the service was kind of indifferent and it was overprice for the quantity and quality. I won't recommend this restaurant. I like chinese food and sometimes they have good services but this was a let down.

Hands down one of the best Chinese takeaway restaurants that exists. Until today I will only order my food from here. This exact branch I have been ordering food from since they opened and no other place that we have tried until today has topped their quality. The food is fresh and flavourful and worth eating. A must try and worth travelling for. Trust me! It's not too oily or fatty either! My favourite dishes have to be beef fried noodles, four seasons vegetables, lamb curry's, sweet and sour prawn balls as well as their Singapore fried rice noodles.

We have been going to McChina for over 15 years, and we can honestly say it's the best Chinese restaurant around. Even after moving away from the area, we still return here. The ingredients are fresh and selection of dishes is good. It's a family-run restaurant, and the owner always takes time to speak with the customers. This is a gem of a restaurant which I highly recommend.

Quite a good Chinese restaurant, lovely and friendly services, and the prices are very reasonable, family business, personal touch, no wonder is very good.

Have been visiting McChina for a number of years and always been satisfied with food and service. Recent visit I was shocked at prices - £4 for a sauce, £12 for chicken balls, most starters £10 and above. £100 for a visit for two with only one glass of wine each. Hitting Good Earth prices for food and setting which doesn’t quite match. Sadly will be put off a repeat visit in the near future

Best Chinese food ever.. try it

Some of the best Chinese food I have had in London. I ordered chicken satay for starters and was not expecting such a filling portion. The chicken was cooked really well and the peanut sauce was excellent. For mains I had the 1/4 duck pancakes which was also sensational duck was really well cooked. For a side I had the Chinese seasonal vegetables in garlic sauce which I would definitely recommend. Overall was a lovely experience for me and my partner.

The food is OK. However don't go there if you don't want your clothes get stinky of burned Chinese oil. There are a lot of hot sizzling dishes in the menu and if anyone orders one in the restaurant, the air gets really bad.

We have ordered takeaway from here many times, but only just recently ate at the restaurant. Knew the food was going to be top notch already, and was pleased that the whole restaurant experience matched it in quality. Heartily recommend! (The salt and chilli dishes are all fantastic, and they have the Best ribs!)

Absolutely fantastic. Ordered a delivery, arrived an hour later (during Wimbledon fortnight so can imagine they’re busy) but they did tell me it would be an hour, and food was piping hot, well packaged, generous in portion size and delicious. Will be back again and again

We absolutely love this restaurant! It is our go to on a Friday evening with family and friends! We’ve ate both at the restaurant and also ordered a takeaway! The takeaway always comes hot just like it was served in the restaurant and is absolutely delicious! We have been going to this restaurant for over 5 years! The staff are lovely and the service is always outstanding!

The food was great, but we felt it was difficult to get staff's attention. Atmosphere was lovely looking just very load and no fresh air. But the food was lovely and staff were friendly.

Lovely members of staff from the front too the chefs, the minute we stepped in the reception was very welcoming and saw us straight away even though they were very very busy the process was quick and easy and very friendly. It was very clean and members of staff around, very big shoutout to all the staff !

Extremely good for the price! Very tasty and this is coming from a Chinese person. I think they do the Cantonese staples very well! It would be super if they branched out and did some regional stuff as this is what's missing in Wimbledon area, good quality non Cantonese Chinese food.

I order delicious food from this extremely clean restaurant which has very friendly staff with my family on a regular basis and we always absolutely adore everything we have ever ordered from here!

Great place and terrific food, not bad value either compared to some!

I did not have a good experience here. The food was disappointing and I felt expensive for the quality. The main came incorrect and once finally arrived, far too sweet and sickly. It was described as hot but had no flavour whatsoever. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very chaotic, loud parties, glasses being smashed. Service was not good. Waited 20 minutes to order, another 10 minutes for a can of coke to arrive, 20 minutes for the main which arrived incorrect and then a ridiculous 27 minutes just to pay after chasing twice. The table was being wiped down and cleaned for the next guests while we were still seated. Plenty of lovely restaurants in the area - this is not one of them.

First order - takeaway, very good, restaurant was clean. No waiting around. Will be back for sure. Hopefully next time will be just as good.

First time at the restaurant. We ordered the lunch time deal menu. It comes with a main course with rice, a side and a drink. All for £12.50. Good value and the food was yummy! Portion size was decent. The chefs were very friendly and they came out from the kitchen to say hi to the customers. As there were three of us, we ordered 3 sets of the deal to share: Sweet &Sour Pork Hong Kong Style with Egg Fried Rice + Chicken Wings, Four Seasons Seasonal Vegetable with Fried Noodles + Prawn Toast, and Prawn in Spicy Garlic Sauce with Egg Fried Rice+Barbecue Spare Ribs. We didn’t realise that the restaurant would close at 2.30pm. We came late and ordered around 1.30pm. The food came very quick but we felt a bit rushed to eat up and the staff was keen to clean and tidy up. We will definitely come back again.

McChina is one of the best Chinese restaurants you will find in the area. The food is cooked wonderfully and the starter hot box is so good. The dry bbq ribs are amazing and the service is wonderful as it is a family owned business. They care about you as a customer and its a nice restaurant with no rush. This type of restaurant is a golden nugget in the Colliers Wood / Wimbledon area. Definitely worth a visit. Good prices, good food and great service.

Excellent fresh tasting food. Ordered for 9 of us and we loved it! Loads of ingredients, not just sauce. Everything was packed so nicely for takeaway. Delicious prawn crackers too. Will definitely return.

The staff maintained their smiles and friendliness despite the rush from Year of the Rabbit diners. The service was slow , probably as a result of the rush. When 2 staff collided with a crash of broken glass over our table and 2 of us the staff leapt into action , replacing our Duck , offering free drinks and a free dish of Mongolian lamb which was very tasty. A warning: tables nearer the kitchen should be avoided in cold weather as they can be subject to an icy blast from the doors- this might be a benefit in hot weather of course

Ordered take away and delivery came promptly. The food was truly bad. Ingredients were cheap, tasted bland at best and chemical at worst. Sauce was practically fluorescent in colour. It was inedible.

I love McChina! The best Chinese around, the food is alway fresh, hot and delicious. The staff are lovely. We travel around 40 minutes to get from here because it’s the best one and worth the travel! Top job guys!

Order takeaway waited 2 hours for it to be delivered, they never answer the phone not great service ! When food arrived it was awful worst Chinese I have ever had £60 on Chinese and no one ate it

Absolutely beautiful food Iv never had such a wonderful Chinese and iv been to China over 15 times. The food is a bit more expensive then a regular Chinese but worth every penny. The staff are wonderful and very attentive. Again I’d recommend this restaurant to anyone. Beautiful

Been looking for a good Chinese takeaway since moving to Battersea and I've found it. Really good food, great portion sizes and great delivery service. Will definitely be ordering again and recommend anything 'salt & chilli', really good.

Wonderfully clean restaurant with an open view of the kitchen. Great staff and the food is excellent. Can not recommend this place highly enough. They also do a take away menu.

Bought a selection of dishes for a family birthday meal. Food came promptly and nicely packed in a cardboard box. We ordered chicken wings which were well received by the elders who enjoyed them with relish. The vegetable spring rolls were crispy and tasty. We ordered s mixture of noodles and rice and meat and vegetable dishes. All went down very well by each member of the family. Food stayed hot for a long time and there was enough for left overs despite us eating our fill. Having enjoyed a number if takeaways from here I'm hoping to eat in the restaurent soon.

Not the easiest place to park near, however the food is worth the hassle. Service can be a bit slow at times, the food was well cooked. My only complaint is I like hot food on hot plates, otherwise the food goes cold very quickly.

Slow service for collection orders. Had to wait for over an hour from placing the order on the phone when they initially advised that it would be ready in half an hour. They’re quick to take your payment but make you wait for your food. In the meantime, the staff at the front desk repeatedly ignore phone calls. Terrible service.

My grandparents have been ordering from McChina for years, and since I moved in with them it's the only Chinese I've had. It's amazing every time, sometimes a little greasier than others, but always fast, hot, and lovely people on the phone and on delivery!

Buen servicio, atento, no agresivo, rápido, pero no siente que lo apresuren para despejar la mesa para otro cliente.La comida es excelente, sabrosa sin ser abrumadora, había desmenuzado la carne de chile y el chile era suficiente para probar sin ser exagerado.Incluso la música del fondo era discreta y correcta. I had seen a lot of people recommend this place and it was quite busy both in the restaurant and for takeaways. Unfortunately I found the food well below par for Asian cooking. The spring rolls, although beautifully crisp, were under seasoned and tasteless. The chicken and sweet corn soup was very thick (not really soup) and again bland / tasteless. The main I had was a Singaporean something. It was OK, but I’ve had much better elsewhere. Very disappointing and won’t be going back.

Good food and fresh. Great service although just slightly slow as it is a family run business so be sure to wait for your food but it is good. Some dishes a bit salty. Not sure if they use MSG in their food like most Chinese takeaways do as this is the way to cook food. Anyway will ask them next time. Generally a good place to eat and found the veggie food really good that day. I am yet to try their meat dishes but will leave that for another time!

Parking can be a little trying but it's one of those places that it's worth the trouble. Prawn toast was very good service is good

Been using Mcchina for donkeys years on and off, ordered Singapore noodles,stir fried King prawns with mushrooms and stir fried chicken with peppers and blackbean sauce. We were quite impressed with the food and was very tasty. Delivery was about 40 minutes and the food was delivered hot, overall impressed.
