Food was horrific cod tasted like leather , salmon tasted like rubber Chips were as dry as a dessert used to drive a hour and a half now just sit in disgust hoping it was a nightmare

Just....wow. first time visiting Toff's and was fantastic. The food tastes amazing but the highlight was the curry sauce. AMAZING!!! Prices are above average but your paying for QUALITY. can't wait to come back!

Been comming to Toffs & also referring to friends and family for over a decade as the best F&C - unfortunately recently it’s become the very definition of what fish and chips should not be - fried cod was greasy it’s base soaked in oil - the grilled salmon and cod were soo overcooked you would think you are eating a badly cooked cheap cut of leather - extremely disappointing and now 3 times in a row!!! Here in lies the end of Toffs on 12th of April 2024!!!!

An institution in Muswell Hill, with a catastrophic supply chain problem once a week on a Friday night. Expect to stand out in the cold for 45 minutes if you are incautious enough to fancy a cheeky haddock and chips at 730 on a Friday night.

The food was not that hot and not good beef and onion pie not good at all. Cold and chips were half hot and half cold. When we ask for the bill the staff said tips. I founda little bit rude to ask Makes you feel sooooooo uncomfortable.

Probably one of The most awful Fish and chips after I had eaten my scampi And chips after this throughout the rest of my evening I was constantly Throwing up, scared the life out of me honest to God I do not trust the fish they make people can believe what they want to believe but honest to god this food ruined my body.

Great place came since was a little girl now 26years old food is always fresh tasty and brilliant quality Only thing I would say is the price is bit expensive for my nan who's a pensioner

Outdated fairly rubbish old fish- how can a Dover sole be hard and seemingly past it’s sell by. Starter of prawns was ridiculously drowned in garlic A waste of an evening! Prob ok for basic take away but otherwise it’s real bad!!

Traditional wooden panels and a huge menu, even fresh roses on the table. I ordered the lunchtime special, with tea. My haddock had big flakes of fish, boiling hot and full of flavour. Crispy batter and great chips. It came with bread and butter a side salad and ketchup and tartare sauce. Friendly service, nice atmosphere, even though it was busy. Managed to fit in a steamy, sticky toffee pudding and custard. It was really goohy and so good. My lunch cost nearly £25, ok for London. High standards, best fish and chips away from the seaside.

We are real foodies and lived in Muswell Hill years ago so regularly had cod and chips from the original toffs when they won the national award I called and asked for 2 large cod and chips it was ready who arrived Sadly the fish was not cod but a watery tepid fish cod is steak like and has structure this was limp and lifeless To be fair the chips were good as you would expect from a chip chop But if someone asks for cod provide cod or at least be honest and tell them of a substitute

Went to Toff's following a raving review in Time Out magazine. Thought, as I have a friend who lives near there, I'll pick up my Brixton anchor and sail north of the river to treat us both to my favourite culinary Britainalia. Yes, the service was friendly and efficient. The fish was fresh, flakey and juicy. But that was it. The rest of what makes a f&ch the complete meal was, from not really special, to very dissappinting. Chips was a good few moments short of that desirable ballance of outside crispiness and inside softness, while batter was soked in oil, making shoveling the meal down the gullet quite heavy going. It is an absolute shame as it was obvious that all the ingridients were there, including a delicatelly thin batter coating, but sloppy executon had ruined the opportunity.

Tried first time ! The fish was really good !!! Forgot to take a photo of the haddock. But ordered dessert after , couldn’t resist taking a photo !! Absolutely delicious cream caramel with a twist of zesty orange ! Definitely worth having dessert here too 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Was served a truly magnificent piece of haddock that was up there with my top five ever fish and chips meals. I actually couldn't move after finishing Eating in is a (relatively expensive) treat - but oh so worth it Book ahead as seating is limited - otherwise takeaway is an option (The length of the queue is evidence of the popularity & quality of Toffs)

After a long, tiring weekend of work I was looking forward to some fish and chips for dinner. Got fish and chips to takeaway and walked the food less than five minutes home. The food was cold, not crispy and fresh. The curry sauce was the only redeeming feature. The staff are lovely, so maybe eating in is better.

When visiting London it’s worth a visit to my favourite fish and chip shop. Food is great as usual. The place is small, so booking a table is highly recommended and given kitchen is open plan you will surely experience the perfume of fish cooking. Love this place though!

Been cabbie 14 years haven't been here for a few years no cabbie discount anymore 😕 😪 don't mind that though lol 😆 but have to say food was shocking wayyyyy to much salt soggy cod roe soggy anemic sausage in batter chips all stuck together up there with worst chippys I've had was really surprised 😮 poor poor quality no q outside either perhaps that's why cabbies I would give this a swerve nowadays not sure how it's got 4.5 star's on Google 🤔 only thing that tasted good was the gherkin 😆 only ate what I did cos I was starving 😉

Typical British fish and chips available at typical London prices. A large cod and chips will get you a whole de-boned fish.Chips are a bit under done for my taste as I prefer them a little moe crispy. Tartar sauce is extra and very nice. Gherkins (pickle) and mushy peas are also available on the side. There is often a queue for takeaways. This place is small so there's not much space to queue inside which means be prepared to queue outside in inclement weather. The constant queue for takeaways also dampens the atmosphere for those dining in where it's way more expensive so I don't recommend.

There is a reason this place is always packed and often with an eager queue outside. It is just really good at what it does. We visit (from over 150 miles north) two or three times a year and it never lets us down. Do check out the specials blackboard. Skate wing grilled was a highlight this last time. Portions are super generous, kudos if you manage a desert. Staff are so friendly and attentive without it ,mbeing claustrophobic. Great set up, looking forward to our next visit.

I asked the cashier if I had to pay for mayonnaise. A lady from the side rudely interrupted and said everything is paid for these days and the mayo wasn’t cheap to purchase either with a rude tone . I was just enquiring if I had to pay for the mayo as I had never been charged or notified that I was being charged for condiments before.

I visit Toff’s at least once a month. It’s the best fish and chips in London. I’m a big fan of their scampi and fried cod too! But ok this occasion I went for the grilled fish, it was delicious and so fresh!

No other word but highly recommend excellent food fantastic concept in so far as fish and chips and champagne and mint tea or traditional tea etc with great fish and seafood dishes. I came from east London had to speak to the owner and the chef about how much I loved the atmosphere and food. Highly recommend it and hope all the East London people from Victoria park hoxton square bow and bethnal green comes to this great place. Simply great and clear way of experiencing fish n chips in style

フィッシュアンドチップスを食べました。サックサクでベタベタした感じが全くなく、淡白な白身魚と相まって大変美味です。codとhaddock、まだあまり区別がつかないのですがどちらも大変美味でした。塩とビネガーで食べるもよし、タルタルソースをつけて食べるもよしです（ソースは言えばもらえます。チップスにはケチャップをつけたくなるかもしれません）。 たまたま入った店でしたが、有名店のようです。納得のクオリティです。

Huge portions of great fish and chips (also salads and pickles). Very friendly service. Main ground floor table area is a bit cramped. When busy, there is an upstairs room as well.

It was my first fish and chips in my life! And I liked it. It’s very crispy and huge, so at first I loved it, but bit greasy at the end, so i left some. My bf said it was BEST french fries in his life but in my opinion it was not my type. At the time I ate I didn’t think fish and chips are not really my type, but after few days, it kept came in my mind 🤔 Maybe I would eat it again soon haha I can’t say it’s a good fish and chips since it’s my first one, but definitely willing to go again

I have been going to Toff's since the 80's and I have never been depsapointed with the food and service. This is the best fish and chips in London.

I decided that a hard day working on an upcycle project and a few extra pounds from the sale of a item, I deserved a treat. I have been a resident of N10 for just over a year, I had noticed folks eating chips and Toffs looked the place to treat myself to Cod and Chips. I know fresh cod is now a luxury food. So at £13 it's should be a deliciously satisfying meal. Ordered cod and chips for one. No more than a minute from ordering I was being asked did I want salt and vinegar. Being asked was unusual I would have preferred to add salt and vinegar myself, so I declined and add them when I get home. The fish portion was good but a tail end and the portion of chips would've fed 3 people. Putting the fish onto the plate a big piece of batter stuck to the paper and the chips stuck together as a soggy mess. But with the worse piece of cod I have eaten in front of me I felt robbed. I tried to find a portion of fish that was melt in the mouth cooked but dried, chewy and tasteless was what £13 buys you at Toffs of Muswell Hill, If a fish restaurant/takeaway can't serve correctly cooked fish then it's trading under false pretences. Anyone who has cooked fish knows it cooks quickly and continues to cook after removing from heat. A professional cook will know the timings whatever the cooking methods. Obviously not a professional operator. If you are thinking of using Toffs you should insist that your fish is shown to you and cooked as you wait. Then check it is cooked well, if the staff don't do as you requested then they don't deserve your custom or to be in business.

Great little local Fish’n Chips and Tiramisu !!

We have used Toffs take away for some time now but over the last few weeks we have had a few bad meals. The chicken and fish are often so overcooked that the skin or batter has fallen apart and left all hard bits in the chips when packaged for takeaway. For the prices charged it is not up to par and our last lot went in the dog. Sadly we will not use them again.

Food awedul today just bought fish n chips . Gave us all the ends of the potato looked like the last remaining bits . Potato was horrible tastes like white potato brand not the usual was tuck . Fish undercooked and wet inside and hardly any batter . Very disappointing for £15 A PORTION

My favourite chippy in London so far. I've visited many times over the past few years. The haddock and chips is delicious. 5* for the food when you dine in. The fish isn't as good if you choose to takeaway. I'll definitely keep returning to dine in! The staff are lovely and the service is great. It has a great vibe too.

Best fish I have tried in a long time! Chips are amazing too

The fish was too oily and under the fish was a note (kitchen note) inky (black) there was ink in the fish skin, on top of that you could see the oil on the chips as well even though I kind ask a well done ones. All in all it was a bad and disgusting experience at Toff’s, I do not recommend.

I popped in here for some late lunch with my partner after being recommended it by a good friend of mine and unfortunately I was left disappointed. We started off by getting some starters which were grilled King Prawns and Fried calamari rings. The prawns were mushy in texture which gave me the feeling they weren’t fresh nor did they taste great. The calamari rings were so small and what looked like a child’s portion although they tasted good. The starters did not impress at all. As for the mains we both god fried cod which came with chips and I asked for a lovely Greek salad. The fish arrived and it was quite nice if I’m honest, crispy and succulent yet the chips were cold and did not look fresh. The most disappointing part was the greek salad. In my whole life of eating greek salad I have not known it to contain lettuce yet our bowl was 90% lettuce and some tomatoes with cucumbers and some red onion. I’m Cypriot myself so I know what a Greek salad is yet when I mentioned it to the waitress she said “that’s how we do it here… what you’re used to is how they do it on greece” completely wrong! Not once was I asked if the food was okay and clearly she saw me unhappy about the salad and nothing. None the less, I came and tried the food and with great disappointment I wasn’t satisfied. Wish them the best but I won’t be returning.

Just got home from a great experience..supper with grandchildren at Toffs, 5 of us, and I booked the night before... good job I did, it was full except for our table... not been there for a long time, but still as good as ever, smiling reception, freshest fish imaginable.. hot chips straight from the fryer, but the star of the show was the Creme caramel.. certainly homemade, and fabulous, wonderful caramel sauce with bits of burned sugar. We all came out with satisfied big smiles, .. Thanks guys.

Had x2 cod and chips a couple of weeks ago. The chips were good, but the fish was overdone and dry. Friendly staff as ever. But with the premium pricing in mind, I’m struggling to go higher than 3 stars on this one.

The chips are average however this is NOT an LGBTQ+ friendly establishment since some of the staff feel comfortable openly harassing LGBTQ+ patrons. Clearly if they don’t welcome us then best to steer clear of.

I am not a big fan of Fish&Chips as I always find it disappointing. Only because I had a visitor I decided to try Toff's. We shared a large fish and large chips with the homemade sauce. We loved it. The fish could have been a bit crispier but still it was so good that I want to come back for more! The portion was super generous. I've never had that many chips in my life. Because of the tasy sauce I wasn't able to stop myself. Will go for regular sized ones next time :)

Tradicional, muy local, acogedor, un restaurante de aquellos de "toda la vida". Es "EL" fish&chips por excelencia! Ambiente y trato familiar, Toff's no está en el centro de Londres, pero el barrio de Muswell Hill es una maravilla!

I asked my son to buy 2 large chips. It was very stale. The kids didn't want to eat eat, we didn't like it at all. The whole thing is in the bin. What a waste of money and time!!!!
