We were pleasantly surprised that at 6:30 on a bank holiday Friday night we were served promptly by attentive friendly staff and the food was fresh and tasty. We were able to sit outside with our dog to eat

Asado asados mejores que he tenido.

Stopped here spontaneously on a long car journey. Quick, friendly service. The food was the usual chain carvery - tasty enough but could be a little warmer. Plenty of meat given though, which isn't always the case. It's not gourmet but you know what to expect and where can you fill up on a huge plate of food for £6.49 these days?

I came with here with my friends for a meal out we have been several times and each time is a different experience. Our last visit here we walked in and asked the tanned petite brunette hair pinned back waitress on the door how she was as she looked grumpy as sin to only be ignored so we asked for a table of 6 to then be ignored again even though she was standing right in front of us. Disgusting behaviour from someone who is supposed to make you feel welcomed!!! She also ignored us when stood at the bar to order our drinks whilst the young bloke was busy. Once we were queing up for food we had waited almost 20 minutes for gravy resulting in the food to be freezing. There was no mint sauce and no cranberry sauce.Other staff members didnt even come to see how we were but instead stood at the bar having a laugh about. Overall the food was average and customer service was appalling!!!!

I am writing to say that we are disgusted with he treatment we had today at our family meal We booked a table for 1pm on Tuesday 6th December 2016 for nine peopleAs we arrived we were shown to our table as the staff seemed busy we went to the bar to order drinks, two members of our table where informed that they had no brandy and no Bells Whisky which is a very popular brand we were to say the least shockedWe then ordered our food and I must say the young man who served us was very polite and kept apologising The food was average and on choosing our carvery meal their was no gravy only horseradish flavoured gravy which is not good with all types of meatBetween our meal we once again ordered drinks and were told that their was no Bacardi this was the last straw After bringing our complaint to the Manager we were given a discount off the price of the meal We would have preferred to have paid full price for a wonderful meal and excellent service I must say we all agreed that the young man who served us could not be blamed in anyway

We booked the Toby about a month ago for our family xmas get together, had been here before so felt confident that we would have a good meal.Alas, from the start things went pear shaped! When we were greeted & told them we were the party of 9 for the Christmas fare the young lady looked at us, as if we all had 2 heads!!!! Quickly they took us to our "festive table" which consisted of nine xmas crackers, nine white serviettes, & nine forks!!!!Waited ages for someone to take our drinks orders & eventually gave up & headed for the bar.Now the first drink ordered was a whisky & was told they had none!! The only alternative was a Jack Daniels! Next order was a brandy & again, sorry there's no brandy!!!At last our appointed waiter arrived at the table. He was the only saving grace about this place, took our orders & was the bearer of bad news as one off the starters had finished!!!! My Brother took it well & ordered the Prawn & crab cocktail along with 4 others. When it arrived it was missing a key ingredient, the crab!!!!Our waiter was mortified & passed our complaint to the chef.He returned saying that we would receive a discount if that was acceptable. The carvery itself was fine until we arrived at the "gravy & condiment area" to find there was no Gravy!!!! There was a pot of Horseradish gravy & that was OK for those who had beef but not acceptable if your having other meats!!!!All this time our waiter, Nat, was trying his best, even though he was seeing to so many other tables, serving at the bar, fetching cups & glasses from the dishwasher, so so understaffed! Those who had sweets said they were delicious, so the food isn't really the problem, it's obviously the management!Nat came to take our last drinks order & another brother ordered a Bacardi & coke & low & behold, there was no Bacardi!!! We did receive a discount but this was our Christmas Day Out!Just before we left the Chef came out of the kitchen & started shouting at the manager & the atmosphere was not good.20 out of 10 for our waiter Nat, he was a star!!!!

After 5 minuets no one appeared. Bar staff looked at us and didn't say a word. Turns out you go to the bar, pay then take your seat. Mostly a nice place it used to be brilliant. We came back from holiday and went straight to Toby's for a decent meal it can be very hit and miss now but on Friday it was the nicest Toby's I've had in ages my little girl barely eats anything but on this occasion she had quite a lot even a Yorkshire pudding I was very happy with the range and quality though the meat seems a bit skimpy since the changeover. It also depends on the carver I had an OK amount but my husband had a different carver (we swap sitting with out child) he had barely anything so I had to give him some of mine. If you guys would sort the meat out it would be a five star again. Nicest Pepsi in Widnes :)

went with a friend for Dinner in the week, meat was so thin it was like scraps I give more to my cats as a treat the turkey was also very dry and the gammon very fatty. There wasn't much choice of veg as usually is Cauliflower cheese, garden peas and green beans both looked frozen type and some sliced tasteless carrots, when asked about mashed swede said not seasonal yet I had it 2 weeks ago at Evanwood carvery in Runcorn, my friend asked about parsnips the chef told her it wasn't Christmas , usual mash and roasters but you could tell where waiting till every last roaster had gone before replacing with fresh ones meaning they were quite dry, , service good as is the refillable soft drinks but I wont be back in a hurry. we also enquired about the 2 course for £6.99 to be told something about having to pre order /book didn't understand as it didn't make sense so just ordered carvery at £6.25 , this was second time in 3 months we have visited definitely gone downhill food wise.

Take the Toby Carvery for what it is, a relatively inexpensive carvery meal rather than fine dining, and you won't be disappointed. At £6.99 for two courses it's great value. On this visit there was a choice of turkey, pork, gammon, and beef with the usual sides of roast and mashed potato, peas and green beans, carrots, cauliflower, stuffing, and giant Yorkshire puddings. They even had three choices of gravy (beef, mint, or vegi). Desserts in the two course offer were ice cream, chocolate fudge cake, or sticky toffee pudding. All was very enjoyable. On one plate, hardly any was put on, asked for more, more was brought, but it was so dry and terrible. I did complain about this, was offered beef or pork, but I don't eat those meats, anyway, a fresh turkey was put out, more was brought, but still very dry. Where to start that is the question? Absolute shambles. We waited several minutes to be seated at a dirty table. Not set for service. Waiter was not interested. Drinks took 15 mins to arrive and then the order was wrong. Warm black currant was a disgrace. Food was dreadful. Carver was grumpy to say the least and when we got to the roasts they were pale and soaked in oil and only two left. Chef when asked for fresh bit my head off then re appeared some several mins later with fresh. She threw them at me and caught my hand. Meals were left as stuffing dry, mash lumpy, cauliflower raw, meat tough.... Need I carry on.. When the bill came waiter did not even check why the food had not been eaten and then the cheek of it stalled in offering our change.. Wanted a tip.. Formal complaint winging its way to head office.. Avoid this one.. Dreadful to say the least. Best bit was getting in car to go home and cook.

Cold vegetables but that could be because we had to wait for our cutlery to be brought before we could eat. That wasn't clean either. Ordered pudding 3 times and each one was out of stock so gave up and had no pudding. Friends had the Apple crumble and that was awful just stewed apple with powder sprinkled on top. Booked a 3 course Christmas meal here with friends. From the start service was terrible. After the waitress took our drinks order she completely forgot about us. We overheard her telling the duty manager this. I had to tell a member of staff, who I later found out was the duty manager, before we were able to get a menu and have our order taken. The waitress seemed unable to operate the hand held device and we all ended up ordering the same to make it easier. Sadly we then waited another half hour and still hadn't received the starters. I asked a waitress who said she would check in the kitchen and then proceeded to walk past the kitchen to chat to a colleague. Again I had to ask the duty manager. After another 10 minutes I said we'd leave the starters and just have a carvery. We had now been sat for an hour without eating. The duty manger said there had been technical difficulties and would deduct the starters from the bill. When they finally arrived my prawn cocktail had no cutlery and no butter with the bread. Again I asked a waitress and she came back with 4 dessert spoons which she flung on the table. By the time we got to the carvery there was no chef on duty there. Again we waited 10 minutes before again I had to ask the duty manager for a chef. She was apologetic but seemed run off her feet. The waiting staff appeared completely disinterested and totally inept. When the bill came rather than the Christmas 3 course meal price all items were individually costed and the bill came to over £83 and our deposit had not been deducted. In addition the ladies toilets were out of order. I would not recommend this Toby Carvery. I have been several times and the service is never very good but this us the first time I have felt compelled to write a review as it was so poor.

At £6.29 for a carvery meal it's certainly good value! There were three meats on offer (pork, turkey, and gammon) served with a Yorkshire pudding and as much vegetables (roast & mashed potatoes, sprouts, peas, and red cabbage) and gravy as you could eat. Typical Toby restaurant in terms of decor, and average service, but overall fine for a quick meal. Just don't expect fine dining!

Last time I visited here it was really nice. What a shame it's ended up as it is now ! We had to wait for a table which was fine as we knew it was busy but the waiting area was filthy. Looked like nobody had cleared up for hours and the radiator looked like it had never been cleaned. We were shown to our table and then got in line for the carvery. Unfortunately a heated argument erupted between an extremely rude customer and the man carving the meat. The customer was clearly out of order and very irate and even threw a plate at the the member of staff. He was unhappy with the amount of meat allocated to him and compared his portion to an other customer in line. I had my 2 children with me and was a little anxious as the customer seemed unpredictable. He left the restaurant shortly after thank goodness. We continued with our meal but the mash was tasteless, the peas and cauliflower undercooked. Won't be returning any time soon I'm afraid !

Visit Toby carvery regular last two visits have been very off putting, First time one carver and the line for food doubled on itself four times once I got back to table my family had finished so was not family meal.Today .. We were greeted with "someone will be there in a min" From the door we where pointed to our table not taken , the table was laid but not wiped it was sticky crumby had grey fluff stuck to the sticky gravy over the table and dried ring marks from glasses ! Was not pleasant. The floor round carvery was filthy and the wall behind covered with flies. There was a small amount of gammon and pork left we where told it would be 45 minutes before any more meat would be brought out. The whole place just looked mucky such a shame it's so poorly maintained. Food tasted nice :)

We visited for a carvery this evening and we were very disappointed. The whole place was dirty with dirty plates and glasses all over the restaurant. No one greeted us. We waited 10 minutes for our food and drink order to be taken at the bar. We waited a further 10 minutes for the chef to come and cut the meat for the carvery. Veg were dry and cold. Toilets dirty and the whole restaurant infested with fly's. Safe to say we won't be returning.

I went with my daughters for lunch. The £6.99 for two courses deal is good value. Food was fine and fresh. I agree that the whole place could be a bit cleaner but the staff and service were friendly

Bank holiday Monday so we travelled to Widnes for a Toby Carvery. We were eventually greeted & advised no turkey before we were taken to our table. We were placed right by open windows on a sticky table so I asked that we were moved away from the cold to a clean table, I was told by the female waitress they needed to check before moving us?!? I moved my family as sitting on a dirty table by a very draughty window was not ideal. At the car very we waited a while for the carver to come out & cut the meat. When he did arrived we had a choice of gammon, beef or pork. I selected beef (as I didn't like the other meats). The beef was so fatty I found it inedible, courgettes were so burnt they tasted bitter & the roast potatoes were hard. My plate was still covered in food as we left. I complained to our waiter when requesting the bill & he advised that the joint of beef was a 'rib' hence the fat. Will not be returning. Poor food & service.

Visited with family for Father's Day, it's the local carvery for me but always disappoints. The decor inside is pretty rough, lighting sockets exposed and just unclean and u kept.Service from the staff is cold and the food is pretty bland but filling.

We had the set 2 course set menu which gave us a main course carvery meal and a dessert. The restaurant was full which meant that there was a regular and quick replenishment of the vegetables which were hot and well presented, and the portions of meat carved for us were adequate.

Ideal for the Travelodge next door. they advertised the breakfast for £3.99, but forget to mention the tea, coffee is extra, the toaster machine is totally in the wrong place, it's stuck in a corner, and once one person is using it no one else can get to it, these are designed to have a rolling effect, waiting ten fifteen minutes for toast which is what I had to do. Breakfast was cold by the time I got back to it. Sort it out Widnes.

Called on a Saturday before long journey home.Arrived early at 11.45 to have a drink and wait for family. All food was already out at that time.Rest of family arrived at 12.15p We all got our meal which was lukewarm .They have a cheek to charge for extra meat etc Half slices on ordinary carvery which you could see through .not good value at all . Staff were lovely and very efficient if a little abrupt at times.Drinks and desserts were brought promptly Will go again and will have to purchase extra meat carvery .No choice really because thats where the flavour is.

Came here with friends last week for the carvery on a Tuesday and the place was packed. We have tried a few carveries around Cheshire but this is by far the best. The carvery meats were OK, a bit dry and not exactly generous portions (as with all carveries) but there was a really good selection of veggies to go with it and you can go back for more of the potatoes & veg. Definitely the best in the area

With a recently changed breakfast menu, Toby Widnes is now even better than before. Add to that the friendly front-of-house staff, and the great team of kitchen staff and cleaners, great prices and good facilities for families, it's a great place to eat. Consistently good quality food morning noon and night. Been there as a couple and for a works Christmas do and it's a good all-round venue.

Toby Carvery seemed a perfect choice on a drizzly Friday night - the food is quick and plentiful and the kids love it. You know what you're getting or so we thought.Service was fairly appalling for once, with one particular member of staff seemingly on the verge of a breakdown. Customers were kicking off aplenty. Given you're only ever an extra Yorkshire pudding away from a diabetic coma in there this takes some doing. The signs were there when we walked in, (literally) announcing that the vegetarian gravy had run out but to use the normal one as there was no meat in it anyway. Yum yum.The main gripe seemed to be the malfunctioning ice cream machine which had sparked a run on other desserts. As we know necessity is the mother of invention and with custard now a highly prized commodity, some harsh economic decisions had been made before we got our treacle sponge. We left amidst chaos. I popped to the urinals and was quickly joined by a youth who fully descended his tracksuit bottoms and asked me if I liked snooker. You can't legislate for that but it somehow seemed to sum up the evening.

The people of Widnes appear to have quickly cottoned on to the fact that most of the major retail shops in the Widnes shopping centre appear to open around 10.30 – 11.00 am on a Sunday morning, which leaves the opportunity to grab a ‘much as you can eat’ breakfast before going shopping. The Tobey Carvery in Widnes serves breakfast between the hours of 9.00-11.00 am and as mentioned it looks like it has become a popular place for a ‘Sunday morning pit stop’ whilst waiting for the shops to open. So much so that I would estimate that by 10.00 am on the Sunday morning we visited the restaurant it was about 75% full with more people coming in as we were leaving. The Tobey breakfast is pretty much standard across all their establishments so you know what you are going to get but with a fairly well packed restaurant this does meal that the food is replenished regularly. It’s not going to be to everyone’s tastes but for the price you are paying beats cooking & washing pans / dishes, so next time you are thinking of shopping in Widnes on a Sunday morning contemplate a morning pit stop at the Tobey Carvery, it’s worth a try.

Usual affair. Had the bigger meal. Was lots of meat and the vedge was really nice. They had sweetcorn and butternut squash which I had not had b4 on a carvery. Real ale was well pulled and I was allowed to open tab behind the bar and have a pint outside on the tables in the sunshine before eating. Clean, friendly with a large eating and bar area. Range of young and old people eating there as well as out of town workers from the local traveloge.

Have not been here for a number of years. It used to be a place that was running wild with small out-of control children (no joke!) , so not here by choice. Today the service and attentiveness of staff was excellent throughout, the carvery well cooked and presented (especially the turkey). puddings good too. No queueing at the bar for ordering either and puddings delivered to the table. With two under 6's with us, it proved to be an unexpected pleasant experience for a late Sunday afternoon. Well done.

We have been visiting and greatly enjoying the great food and service here for many years. But it looks like it's one of Covid-19 closures. Not been open since April 2020. A great little café, sadly missed. All signage gone, just shuttered down, nothing!

I am reading the Welly reviews over here in America (I saw a sign in the movie Educating Rita, Broadheath Tr is where she lived so I was checking the Google Maps and came across this pub) I have to say it seems like the customers at the Welly either love it or have had a bad experience. Interesting-wonder why? Harry in Michigan, USA (looks like I cant post unless I lie about being there. I will fib a little-food photos look great)
