Toby Carvery Hemel Hempstead in Dacorum

Always love a Toby Carvery but the service today by the waitress Sarah and the manager on shift Jason was so so good. I stayed for a while and Sarah made sure I was always comfortable and kept checking on me for coffees and I’m glad she tempted me into a pudding . Absolutely delicious!

Well prepared wholesome food in a comfortable family friendly setting. What's not to like ?

It's better than the borehamwood carvery by far. Popped into this strangely located Toby carvery with my two daughters and was pleasantly surprised after reading some of the reviews. The staff were friendly and the food was really good. The portion size was as expected, but the meat selection and quality were really good. My daughter fell in love with the vegetarian gravy and literally swamped her dinner with it. Overall, it is a good place to eat if you're on a budget and can't be bothered to cook yourself.

Lovely experience at the The Toby this afternoon. Our waitress Sarah was brilliant! Service was amazing and very quick! Food was fresh and delicious. Atmosphere was amazing for a December afternoon. With a few Christmas songs in the background making it feel very festive. And 25% off as we have the app.

Very good meal. Jake was very helpful and gave us a hearty portion of meat. A young waitress, Macey, was very helpful and advised us to get the apple crumble, which was lovely. Great experience.

Poor food , roast potatoes are not roasted or roasted for the shortest time it’s not a great overall experience

Haven’t been to a Toby’s Carvery for about 8 years since our local outlet closed down due to poor service and quality of food. But recently a friend told me how much they had enjoyed their visit to their local outlet that I thought I must go and try again. The family decided to go to the Hemel Hampstead branch as it was close to us. All seemed well until we sat down. The server assigned to our table simply didn’t want to know. Then when we went to get the food; well; what can I say. The meats were very scarce; portions very mean. That wasn’t the problem. The meats were all dried out due to it being under the incandescent heat lamps for such a long time. The sausages and Yorkshire puddings were so hard you could break windows if you were to throw them. This was literally the same for the vegetables and especially the roast potatoes. The only decent thing this Toby’s Carvery had was their gravy. A total disappointment. Won’t be revisiting this outlet EVER again.

Me and my Dad visited here for a late lunch and will 100% be back. Food was delicious and so much variety. Roast beef was favourite for both of us. The chef out front between 14:50 - 15:30 was great. Sarah our server was brilliant also!

Multiple visits - Breakfast X2 overall for the price is good value, service was good for breakfast. Food is left on hotplates for too long without being quality checked, which means a lot is cold or extremely dry. Lunch service was awful, server was rude, slow and unhelpful and the food was disgusting - they dealt with my complaint online well though and in good time so this balanced out review with hindsight, even if my experience meant I didn't return for the remainder of my trip.

Been redecorated looks good. Service with new staff seems much better and food is much better.

Sarah was amazing as usual, I bring my kids here all the time. Good environment for kids and the family for a nice bit of carvery. Go to Sarah she's the best waitress!!! And there's free parking!

We came on a very busy day but everything ran really well. Food was great so were staff and we didn't have to queue long for our food. 5 star all round

When I got home with my takeaway roast, the portion were very small the roast potatoes were dry and could quite easily been made of cardboard the Yorkshire pudding were like rice paper, and only A quarer of a tub of grave, this will be the very last time I go there it was terrible 😌😌

Huge disappointment. Meat dry, vegetables mushy and potatoes chewy. All quite cool despite sitting under heat lights. Requested sharper knives but not available, although required. Not sure what went wrong, but very off-putting .

Lovely after work visit, food was fab but the service was brilliant, we had some requests and changes to be made, suggestions from the children etc. The guy that served us, Jamie, honestly came back with a thumbs up each time and a smile on his face, kept up with the banter and overall made the experience a worthwhile trip on a school night ;) Thank you

Sarah our waitress did everything she ciukd to make our evening what it was. To making us feel comfortable, checking the food was ok, to bring out my sons cake and singing happy birthday. We couldn't have asked for more.

I had a fantastic meal and a great time at Toby Carvery. The service was excellent, especially from a lovely lady named Sarah who served us. The value for money was outstanding, and I’ll definitely be returning!

We went for a last minute Sunday Carvery. The speed of service was great as was the food. Sarah our waitress was very good and attentive. The only issue i had was my plate appeared to have not been cleaned particularly well. But all in all the family had a nice evening.

The Toby carver is my favorite for roasts, reasonable, tasty food, and unlimited roasted vegs.

I thought our server was great, he seemed really upbeat and cheerful and was helpful and kind to our table. The person serving at the carvery was also very nice. The food was brilliant on the whole, the only small thing to complain about was that the the beef dripping roasties were undercooked. Overall I am happy with my experience as it was the first time I'd ever eaten at a Toby Carvery. My more experienced friend said they never usually have lamb, but this was her first time visiting the Hemel Hempstead branch and they did! Thank you for a nice time.

I have to say I usually avoid Toby Carvery because of many bad experiences and poor quality of food when visiting many different restaurants over the years but this restaurant totally changed that. The food was great and full of flavour cooked perfectly. A big thank you to Sarah who was very friendly and welcoming from the minute we walked in.

We enjoy our Toby Carvery and have visited a few but this one was so poor. The meat potions were very small compared to other Tobys, and the beef was so under cooked it was totally inedible with the amount of blood, fat and gristle that we both left it. The roast potatoes were all black as being so far overcooked and the cauliflower cheese had no cheese whatsoever. For sweet, the Sticky toffee pudding was very cold and stale. The only thing they made sure was getting a tip. This Toby is one to be avoided as there are far better ones around. .

Very disappointed with our visit, due to reviews changed our destination for Sunday lunch as we love Toby carvery. We use them frequently on our travels around the country. Hemel Toby was our first visit. We were sat in a busy walk through between kitchen and main restaurant. I had requested a quiet table but appreciate it was a busy Sunday! I had a view of the kitchen floor which was filthy with dropped food and staff were walking in and out of it!! The veg was dry and debris was all around the serving dishes, not great.. the sauces were empty! Meat was ok, well the turkey was but the gammon was chewy and undercooked. I don't think I would bother visiting again, sorry.

We went to Toby Carvery this afternoon, though the food was fine, the service was shocking. As I walked in with my elderly mother a young waitress barged past her - no ‘sorry’ or ‘excuse me’. We then experienced very poor service from an older waitress - constantly having to ask for her service, before we’d even finished our meal she stacked our plates without asking if we had finished, even though some of us were still eating! After waiting an age we ordered desserts - these were brought out and the spoons just thrown on the table at us as she turned and walked off! We then had to ask several other staff if we could pay our bill, to be told “we will try and find your waitress”! What should have been an hour visit maximum we sat there for two hours! What should have been a nice family outing was ruined by disgusting service - very disappointing.

Food very poor , the turkey was super fatty , gammon was tough , left it as un edible , veg was inconsistent either hard as nails or over cooked, the same story with roast potatoes, Stressed out carvery guy didn't add to the ambience of the experience ( headless chickens ) !!! I went up for another drink but dicided to leave it as I was so disappointed with the whole meal , I work all week and I have just Saturday to spend with my family and have a nice meal and a drink , this wasn't very good at all and far inferior to other carverys/restaurants I have been . 3/10

I visited last night, a Thursday. It wasn't overly busy. Got a table straight away, young lad came over and asked if I wanted a drink, which I ordered. Told me I could go to the carvery anytime. Very old yorkshire puddings, looked like they'd been made yesterday, chose my meats, very small amount of each. Cabbage, carrots, sprouts all bone dry in their containers. Roast potatoes were ok. Ate my main meal, at no stage did anyone ask if the food was ok. I wanted to order another drink, I kept trying to catch the young lads eye, but he kept looking away.....and chatting with someone he knew. Eventually I got his attention but it was hard work! I have to say Toby advertise its the home of the roast, but my roasts are far better. I won't be rushing back to a Toby again.

We used to go every month when it first opened, everything was great, the staff was great but as with life staff moved on and the place went to pot so we stopped going there. They recently refurbished the whole place so we started to go back a bit better but not as it was before. Without the right staff will always struggle. Thanks PJ

After giving Toby Carvery another try.....I can honestly say this is by far the worst Sunday roast I have had. Bland food and fatty meat, with gravy that has seen better days. Being rushed out of the restaurant after 55 minutes doesn't help! There are far better places to have a Sunday carvery, other than here! pay the extra money and have a better quality roast, and a relaxed, peaceful Sunday afternoon.

The food was the usual that you’d expect from a Toby; I think because we were there just before it got busy, some of the food was a little dry from being out for a while, like the mac n cheese etc. deserts were disappointing, particularly one of our party members who ordered sticky toffee pudding that got a dry vanilla sponge with what I’d describe as caramel ice cream sauce drizzled on top.

I have not been to a Toby Carvery for ages so I went here with a mate after visiting St Albans cathedral & it was good. My mate does not eat alot so he got the standard carvery & I got the kingsize & pilled my plate high & it filled me up to the brim. The only reason why giving 4 stars as I found the gammon , Turkey abit dry & also the cauliflower cheese abit over cooked apart from that my meal was very enjoyable , me & my mate really liked their potatoes in beef dripping .

Reserved a table and came here early. Had to wait a while but it was worth it. The last time we came here it wasn’t great so left it long time, but today, the food was good and the service was excellent. Jason went above and beyond and was very polite and professional which makes all the difference when visiting a restaurant. To be fair, all the staff working here at this time were wonderful, polite and very attentive (29/09/24 PM) even though it was extremely busy.

Not bad value for the price, but the orange juice served was undrinkable, possibly down to contamination of the glass. Seems short of staff as nobody there to seat us on arrival and had to go and find a staff member to change the drink and to get the bill.

Stayed at travelodge. Could eat in had dog. Ordered to take away. Picked up on time. Meal cold. Turkey ok. Rag ends of beef, tough. The roast potatoes were the worst i have ever had. Cold, rock hard, dehydrated and tough. Could not even bite one without risking my teeth. Worst meal i have ever been served in the uk. Should have gone subway like the hubby.

The tiny portion of dried up beef ends were inedible. The child’s portion of gammon and turkey were perfect - larger than the adults portion which does not make and sense.
