Lovely food and servers Tina and Andrew are amazing, always smiling and nothing is too much trouble. Will definitely be a regular visitor. Great place to eat, lovely atmosphere too and right by the beach so you can also sit outside and enjoy the weather.

Had a lovely meal here today. Our waitress Tina was lovely. Always very nice, helpful and attentive. We will be back soon.

This is the most disgusting meal I have ever had from a toby. Booked a table was told b4 we went in there was no pork. OK fine. When we went to get our meal there was no turkey either, a tiny piece of beef and a small bit of gammon. So I opted for beef and a small piece of gammon which I do not like very much. I asked when they were bringing out more turkey, the answer was we don't have any more it has been busy today. It was a 1/4 to eight. No late by any standards. We sat to enjoy our dissapointing meal to find the beef absolutely full of gristle. When the waiter came round to ask if everything was OK. I explained no it was disgusting. I would have expected him to go to the manager and explain we were no happy. No just presented us with a full bill of £30.48 which I stupidly paid. The waiter was Gabriel. I would advise everyone to stay clear. P.s. The area with the sauces ie apple or mint sauce etc was absolutely disgustingly dirty.

I visited Toby Carvery (Clacton-on-Sea) on 3rd March 2025, the food was good, however the waiter and service was poor. The waiter, Andrew, appeared to be under the influence of something. Whether it be alcohol, or drugs, I am unsure. He disappeared for a number of minutes, and came back to ask how the food was, visibly sweating and gurning. I think it is appalling that the managers here did not pick up on this, and that he is allowed to work in a restaurant where families and children are more than likely present. If I am to visit this branch again and Andrew is my waiter, I will be asking for another as I refuse to be served by this man, or I will walk out and go elsewhere. Despite the poor waiter, as I stated the food wasn’t bad at all.

Such a shame that the Toby have stopped peeling the potatoes. They are jacket spuds in gravy not roast spuds! Everything else is lovely but the most important part of a good roast is the spuds. You may be lucky and get the odd one that has been peeled and they are lovely. It’s the same every time. Such a lazy thing to do. A bit like all these restaurants at the moment not bothering to peel their chips and calling it rustic skin on chips! No you just have skipped peeling them! You cannot get away with whole potatoes though as the Toby now is. Totally does not taste like a roast spud. The thing is I don’t even think they can say oh it’s how we do them because there is the odd one that is peeled! Please sort this out. Every one around us was saying the same thing. All lovely apart from the weird pretend roast spuds. Staff as always are great. Its was not a one off thing either its been the same the last three visits. I had a carvery back in November and they were all peeled then. I just think I was very lucky.

Just got home from having Christmas dinner at the toby Carvery everything was outstanding. We were welcomed by the manager the staff and food were excellent. Our waitress always checked we had everything we wanted her service was exceptional the food was three courses which were all amazing. We didn’t feel like we were being rushed which has happened at other restaurants. So I would personally like to thank all the clacton Toby Carvery staff that gave up their Christmas so we could enjoy ours a massive thank you to you all xx

After being let down by a more expensive (& some people would say posher restaurant), we booked Breakfast with Santa at Toby Clacton. We’ve never been here so really didn’t know what to expect. However, I’m so pleased the other placed cancelled on us. The experience was fantastic. And the main thing was my daughter had a lovely time. We received a lovely greeting as we walked in the door, helpful & happy staff, lovely warm & fresh food, calm atmosphere & clean & of course a lovely section to meet santa himself. For the money paid this was amazing value. Thank you so much! We will be returning for my birthday this month. We would highly recommend.

5 of us family members went today what a difference from when we last went food so much nicer staff very busy but still helpful would of been 5 stara but didn't have crackling lovely food

The carvery was absolutely fantastic, the staff were very friendly and polite and the waitress that served us was called Lisa and her service was brilliant.

As always excellent service, good hot food. Andrew and Tina make this Toby special. Always a friendly welcome. The view overlooking the sea is a bonus.

We eat here most weeks but the past couple of months or since they refurbished there has been a massive downward spiral in the quality of the food. The roast potatoes are generally rock hard you’d need a saw to cut them most of the food is well undercooked (especially the carrots) or stewed and as for the carvers they are so stingy today the carver cut the beef so thin it was crumbling before it even reached the plate. Today the serving of meat I and my son were given would not have filled up a baby. They should let the carvers come round to your houses at Xmas because they would get 100 servings out of a small chicken. Jesus managed to feed 5000 with almost nothing these carvers could feed 10,000 with one joint of beef save your money and buy a takeaway

Staff all need sacked, not one friendly smile and they attitude stank nearly as badly as the horrible breakfast with bacon you could use as a second sole on shoes. Avoid this kind of garbage venue its cheap because it truly is utter garbage

A nice visit for our daughters 13th birthday. The food was excellent and the service fantastic. Our server, Andrew made a real effort to look after us. He was very kind and organised a candle to be added to our daughters dessert for her birthday. He also checked we were happy with our food and service throughout the visit. Andrew is an asset to Toby Cavery and the experience is definately something that will encourage us to return as well as recommend to our family and friends.

We love Toby , but this time I had to leave most of my dinner , my pork was all fat , you couldn’t cut into the potatoes ( overcooked and so hard) but our waiter Andrew was such a lovely person , made us feel so welcome , think I will stick to the Toby at runwell wickford iv never had a bad meal there ( our local one )

Booked a table for 5 of us and were very well looked after by Andrew. Luckily for us it wasn’t overly busy and we hit the carvery quickly. Meat was great, vegetable selection was good, fresh & hot and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. Well done to you all and keep it up!! We will definitely be back soon

We had breakfast and dinner here whilst holidaying in Clacton. Both the food and all the staff were amazing. Eight breakfasts and evening carvery's we ate here and not once were we disappointed. We want to give a special shoutout to Lena for making our dining experience truly memorable. Her attentiveness and friendly demeanor made us feel valued guests. Thank you so much, We will be back.

Popped in here after visiting Clacton on Sea for the day and the food was lovely. Unfortunately, I cannot remember our waitresses name but she was very accommodating friendly and took time to talk to us. We come from Kent and I would definitely say that this Toby Carvery is 10 times better than our local. The food seemed fresh, full of flavour and the bill was just reasonable for a family of five. Would definitely recommend and would return. The only downside was that my youngster had the mashed potato which unfortunately had zero flavour and wasn’t very edible but overall fantastic experience.

We love Toby at Clacton it is so friendly and welcoming and the food is lovely. Today we were served by Tina she is always very helpful as are all the staff.

Great customer service as always from the lovely Tina. The meats were really good and everything was hot. Carvery is never gourmet dining but for a tasty hot meal you can’t go wrong.

Main meal very good but queued for 20 mins to get it. Dessert took 25 mins after ordering . This is our local Toby and does get busy at weekends so we generally go in the week but tonight was not that busy and service was slow

Food was good, always is and always has been. I’ve come here loads. However, I won’t be returning due to being caught out by the parking scam. Keep the £60, i won’t spend anymore money here. Cheers.

Excellent food, very tasty, good service, easy parking. We are local, so eat there regularly or have takeaway.

This is our weekly treat and we enjoy visiting most weeks. On this recent visit we enjoyed the vegetables ect and the Yorkshire pudding but our meat portion was very small eg my turkey was a third of a slice if that. As regular diners we feel there should be consistency in the meat given and its noted that certain carvers are giving very much smaller portion than others. We overheard others complaining as well who were served by the same carver. Other than this a good visit .

There was a very friendly atmosphere. The food was very good. It was hot and looked appetising. The service was very good and the staff were attentive.

Delicious Food. Great selection of fresh meats. Beef, Turkey, Gammon & Pork with yummy crackling and Stuffing. The biggest Yorkshire Puddings I have ever seen. My Grandaughters 1st carvery and she was amazed! Deliciously crispy roast potatoes (I could eat one thinking of them right now but sadly we are not closer) Our server, a tall guy who was so friendly made us really welcome. Great little kids dessert too where you can choose different pots of toppings. All with a Seaview. Fab!

Very tasty food, good selection, friendly staff. Also a lovely view if you sit in the conservatory, which we were able to do.

Upon arrival to this fine establishment, I was greeted warmly by June. Thy Food was at the utmost temperature of my desire. However, some of the hot plates were slightly crisper than to my liking. I thought this establishment has been majorly successful and improved to my taste much more. I would also have to give a mention to Carver John, who was very chatty and kind to my family and I. I will definitely be coming back to thy establishment, very frequently now. As well, as coming for a Carvery lunch in the near future. My gratitude is given to all members of staff at this location.

Great refurbishment! That now complements the carvery served! We managed to get an early lunchtime table without booking but probably need to book if you wish to eat around 1pm, carvery was great the carver served generous meats and the variety of vegetables was very good food was hot, 10/10

Chloe was excellent we had a table of 7 at 6pm 3 /4/24 she engaged with us and was quite funny she went above and beyond for us all nothing was too much trouble she made our experience even more worth it and did it with a smile shes a credit to Toby. We visit the Toby Carvery at Clacton most Sundays although it has just reopened after a 3 week closure for a complete refurbishment. The building itself is lovely, and I was very apprehensive when I found out about the refurbishment as I really thought it would ruin it and take the character right out of it. There were several rooms with big open spaces for large groups of friends/family to meet and enjoy a get-together and also intimate corners with tables just for two. We visited last Sunday after the reopening and I’m so happy to say that the new look Toby Carvery is absolutely fabulous! The redecoration is so tasteful and in keeping with the age of the building , plus there are new windows with curtains and blinds that actually work . The staff are exactly the same lovely people and we were so privileged to have the lovely Lina to show us round all the different rooms when we arrived. Everyone there is always so friendly and welcoming: Lina and Agata on reception; the servers behind the food counter, in particular Simon, who usually serves us and Ade with her lovely smile: the staff who fix the drinks and the lovely workers who come to the tables to take the orders. We’ve got to know them all: Andrew, Michelle, Sara and Tina; they all look after us and greet us like friends. Nothing is too much trouble for them. Lina always greets us with a big smile as she is lovely too and always finds time to say hello despite it being such a busy restaurant and having to be constantly on the go juggling fitting in everyone who has booked a meal plus lots of walk-ins wherever possible. It’s a very popular place. As for the Carvery food, that definitely hasn’t changed, it’s still great and I’ve never ever had cause to complain about anything at all in the 5 years we’ve been visiting. We love coming here although we don’t live in or near Clacton.

4 of us had lunch here today. We prebooked as its just reopened. Warm welcome. Refit was much needed and is impressive. Everywhere is nice and clean. It was busy, Ade was the carver on when we went and collected our roasts was happy and cheerful. Andrew was our server,he was very friendly and informative answering our questions.

Be back to toby’s after refit excellent experience the staff are so professional and friendly and nothing is too much trouble the refund is fantastic it’s well worth a visit good food good atmosphere and very reasonably priced

Lovely views out to sea and you can walk off your Sunday lunch along sea wall . In the summer you can eat outdoors looking out to sea.

I went to Toby Carvery Clacton today with my family for Dinner , I was extremely impressed with the external and internal improvements after the recent renovations. The exterior area is lovely very clean and I particularly like the barrel tables . The interior is spectacular, it is very light and refreshing , and the colour scheme was obviously very carefully thought out , it has each area designed differently which is very nice as it sets each area out as quite a surprise setting, from the decor to the artwork , the plants and ornaments it’s just such a lovely atmospheric place to eat, drink and relax whilst enjoying a fantastic meal out . The fireplace is lovely with the lights in between the logs and each side decorated differently, the partitions are now either open spaces or windows which opens the interior up and makes it feel more welcoming. The food was 5* as was the service , my husband liked the effort put into his cappacino , the artwork on it was impressive 😀 and the staff were very friendly, pleasant and welcoming as always , but there was a difference in the atmosphere in there it just seemed like everything and everyone were so refreshed . A huge well done on the renovations and thank you to the lovely staff for a lovely afternoon, we will see you again very soon .

First day bk after the refurbishment. We go to carvery every week. The newly refurbished restaurant is light airy and extremely tastefully decorated. Super fresh carpet and chairs and cushions very comfortable. The food was hot very tasty and I throughly enjoyed my meal. Excellent to see Lina the manager checking on guests opinions on refurb and inviting guests to mooch around and look. Tina looked after us and superb service as always. John one of the chefs greeted us personally. All in all my favourite place to eat just got 10 times better. See you next week.

Visited the newly refurbished Toby Carvery in Clacton this morning had a lovely welcome from front of house Lena.The breakfast was absolutely the best we’ve had inviting feast and was tasty and steaming hot….The Toby has been given a new fresh look very welcoming inside and out new layouts with new furniture curtains and blinds wood ceiling beams lighting fresh paint and quirky wallpaper…The toilets also have had a total new look…The staff were very friendly as always…Can’t wait to visit again for Breakfast Sunday morning set us up for the day…

Went here for Sunday lunch, what isn't explained when you order is that if you want a child's size lunch it is up to the customer to inform the chef carving the meat, there was only one size of plate on show so we just didnt think. They certainly did not eat an adults portion. It was only when I asked for the bill I had been charged the adult's price of £15 + VAT for the whole party. One child had only had mash and the Gammon, which was fatty so he left it. Food was not hot, some of the veg was hard so not a very nice Sunday lunch. Plus the waiter forgot our pigs in blankets until after we had finished our meals.Can't justify paying for what we have just had which wasn't good and time you add the VAT it is £18 for the carvery so won't be going back. There are better places to eat at this price.

Pros.. Normal Toby roast, which was nice. Greeted at the door and shown to our table. Our table waitress was a lovely, polite young girl. Cons... The actual restaurant and bar area are in desperate need of a refurbishment, we sat at a table where the sun was really low and shining directly in my friends eyes ( I know we shouldn't complain about the nice weather especially in January) but none of the window blinds were working, however a member of the team did manage to pull a curtain and hook it over a window handle which resolved that issue. Another con is the fact there wasn't any real ale on the pumps. Would we return probably yes, but as I say, it's in desperate need of refurbishment.

Our server was lovely, he made our dining experience a good one, I didn’t get the servers name but he had light coloured hair, gold earrings, dr marten boots and a charming demeanour. Food is what it is and for what you get it’s the perfect price. Hadn’t seen my mum for 2 years and she thoroughly enjoyed herself, so thank you very much.

Some time ago we stopped using the carvery in Clacton, however, friends told us it had significantly improved. We've now been twice in the last month, and they were very right, the food came out hot, it tasted fresh, and we really enjoyed it. Excellent friendly staff

I visited Monday for dinner with my wife and 2 children. We got lucky and had the same waiter as we had when we visited 2 years ago, he was equally fabulous. Also the lady carving the meat was very nice and polite. The food was tasty and drinks fresh, I look forward to visiting again when we’re in the area.

Very disappointing. Being a veggie, this place would be way down on my to visit list, but my daughter and husband were determined to go, so along with my wife and three kids we went. The place is tired and needs a serious paint. There is even a piece of timber screwed into the ceiling above the seating area, to presumably deal with a recent leak. The vegetarian options are limited, and when i asked the waitress for a salmon and prawn Wellington, I was told, there's a problem there, we've got no prawns. I took spinach and salmon instead, wondering how a restaurant could run out of prawns. It was a hard nasty reheat that looked like something out of Greg's waste bin and was saved only by the vegetables, which I got from the self service area. Pudding time, and I asked for 'make your own sundaes' for the grandchildren. "There's a problem there." Came the standard statement. "We ain't got the bits, but we can do honeycomb and banana bits. I mean seriously, how hard can this be? Would never bother again. Bar lady was lovely though. Would buy a drink off her any day.

Usually I really enjoy a Toby Carvery but this time it fell a little flat. It didn’t have anything to do with the staff, they were lovely, it was just the food. Unfortunately the beef was very fatty and the roast potatoes were too hard to even cut. Such a shame.

The restaurant could not have busier but the staff were fantastic. Worked off their feet bit paid attention to every customer and served them as though they were the only customer. Well Done

Stowmarket RAFA attended the Clacton air show last August-and had meals in the Toby carvery. We we’re well pleased with the staff and the meal itself. The staff went way out of their way to accommodate us and we will be looking forward to attending the same venue next year. Putting a family who had booked a Seaview table in a dark room opposite mens toilet having to see men coming out with hands down there trousers was disgusting. Have been here many occasions. We come from out of the area to take Mum out and this totally ruined our experience.

Me & my partner visited on the 5th of December & we had a lovely waiter called Harry. It was probably some of the best service I’ve ever received! Food was lovely as usual, looking forward to going back, we hope to have Harry as our server again :)

After giving the restaurant a miss for 6 months due to cold plates and cold food decided to try again last Sunday and have to say everything seemed to have improved but let down again this Sunday by Toby Carvery cold food fatty turkey burnt potatoes cauliflower basically raw the food was disgusting So won’t be using again

Fantastic friendly, helpful staff. Good is always cooked to perfection with a wide range of juicy, succulent joints of meat and a wide range of seasonable vegtables. Staff are always ready on your arrival with a warm welcome. Staff are friendly, polite and helpful at all times. The roasts are to die for but they also offer a wide range of alternative meals along with a vast range of delicious starters and puddings and a full range of drinks from the bar. Good value, good food and friendly staff I would recommend this restaurant 100%

Went in for lunch recently, easily got a table, waitress was lovely and efficient. Had the carvery and enjoyed everything. The only disappointment during our visit was the condition of the men’s toilet, I have never seen a radiator so rusty and the men’s cubicle door has a piece of wood as part of the catch ☹️☹️

My wife took her father to lunch last week, food fine but we have received a parking fine for £85. No visible signs and even worse no one at the carvery told us to pay. BAD MANAGEMENT

I too have fallen foul of Toby Inn’s arrangement with Euro Car Parks. £ 85 pound fine while having lunch in this restaurant, to add to the price of the meal which was good.I now have a very bad taste in my mouth

Absolutely gorgeous food ! Have to give a special mention to the manager , she was soo lovely and friendly and managed to get us all a table together. She really went above and beyond for us ! Thank you again for a great time ! X

Putting hot food on cold plates is ludicrous. You end up with a Luke warm roast which is disgusting. I complained about cold plates about two years ago the last time I was there.

This was the first time we had been into Clacton Toby Carvery. We was very impressed with the service from Amy. She was very attentive friendly and very helpful. We both had the large Carvery which was absolutely delicious. The meat was cooked to perfection . We enjoyed it so much we've booked for Christmas and New Year. Will certainly be back for more delicious food.
