Think it was a oap day out which suited me as I'm one treated us well don't no cost as granddaughter treated me

Had a really nice afternoon with extended family, service was great too!

I would leave zero stars if I could. The table had spilt milk on it when we were brought to the table. There was food all on the floor. The lamb was on it's last legs, hardly any meat left on it, and they wouldn't bring a new one out. The food was freezing, and the potatoes were vile. It was overall a very disappointing meal. The first time, I've left a toby carvery, still hungry!

Very nice man at reception. Food was delicious and fresh, even got a good morning from one of the chefs. Why is their Christmas tree still up at the entrance in February though?

Food was not great but amount of meat seems a lot less than you used to get, also roast potatoes not great and vegetables overdone which is a pity for carvery - not as good as other Toby carvery I've been to in Crawley . Starters of cheesy mushrooms though were good and service was good. Pretty standard, spacious carvery and atmosphere was fine so our family group still enjoyed our visit .

My meal, cost me nearly £16.00 with the delivery. The, food was appalling, and when it did turn up was cold. I, don't expect this after paying all this money.

I, ordered a roast dinner to be delivered. When, it arrived it was stone cold. The, food was absolutely appalling. I, ordered gammon and roast beef. There, was only half a slice of gammon,there wasn't even a slice of beef. What, I was given was mainly fat. The, potatoes were hard. Just eat, have refunded my delivery charge. The chef, who prepared my food should be ashamed of himself for delivering such appalling food, when people are paying to eat this. This, was my first time of ordering from Toby Carvery. I, should be given a full refund, otherwise it will be my last time has well. It's, only lucky I wasn't in the actual restaurant, otherwise I would have complained there and then. I, would have been better off going to a local café.

Toby have nailed it! Just had a hearty, satisfying, tasty, incredibly good value meal. I must admit that it is tough seeing so much animal go to waste on the plates of those with eyes bigger than their bellies but I appreciate being able to stack the veg high and chomp through the lot. The vegan mushroom and onion pie is very nice and now that the Lavazza coffee is available with oat and soya milk we discussed whether it would be financially viable to eat here every day of the week! We think we prefer the atmosphere of the Basildon restaurant above the Wickford one which might be to do with the large open plan space at Bas. The young lady that waited on us was polite and helpful.

I came with friends. Had a great meal. Staff were friendly and helpful. There was a a lovely atmosphere and would definitely recommend and come again

We had a booking for six people—five adults and a toddler in a high chair—at Toby Carvery Basildon. Upon arrival, we were shown to a tiny table that was completely unsuitable for our group size. It was barely big enough for four people, let alone six, and there was absolutely no space to fit a high chair. We aren’t exactly the smallest people, so squeezing into such a cramped space was simply not an option. We arrived 20 minutes before our booking time, only to be told we couldn’t dine because we hadn’t specified in the booking comments that we needed a high chair. Apparently, this meant they hadn’t set aside a table that could accommodate one. Instead of offering a reasonable solution, the staff member (a woman) condescendingly suggested that our 1.5-year-old “could just use a cushion behind him.” This was completely unacceptable—how could a small toddler be expected to sit safely and comfortably on a regular chair with just a cushion for support? It was a ridiculous suggestion and showed a complete lack of common sense. When we asked if there was any possibility of switching to another table, we were met with an eye roll and were told that because another group had mentioned a high chair in their booking comments, they would be given priority in 20 minutes. No effort was made to accommodate us, even though we had booked in advance. Meanwhile, our toddler was getting increasingly upset and crying because he was hungry, yet rather than helping us, the staff seemed more interested in getting rid of us. We were then asked for our name so they could cancel our booking and give our table to someone else—someone who had apparently “booked the correct table.” At this point, we had no choice but to leave. We ended up going to Aroma instead, where we had no booking, yet they still made an effort to seat us straight away without issue. The contrast in service was staggering. We have been customers of Toby Carvery for years, but this location has only gone downhill. The staff and management clearly do not care about customer service or making families feel welcome. Their handling of the situation was unprofessional, dismissive, and frankly, insulting. If you have a young child and need a high chair, don’t bother coming here—you’ll just be turned away.

Absolutely joke even tho booked a table we still had to wait ages the staff was absolutely miserable we had the carvery and the food was cold and tasted like it was all reheated all dry and disgusting the meat was not worth getting it was all fatty and didn’t even get much of it was not impressed

Walked in to a very hostile atmosphere and at that moment I knew I should of turned around and went some where else. The waiting staff didn't come across friendly just very abrupt. I shouldn't have to feel bad to have the table cleaned. Even walking past them in thier groups I over hear them talking about my family, even continued as i sat down and can see that they were still looking directly at us and talking. Making me feel really uncomfortable. However the man carving was very polite despite the food quality being really poor. I guess you get what you pay for...

Very festive, lovely to have parsnips and Brussels, although did miss the onions with my roast beef. Waitress was very efficient the best part for the 4 of us was once we had our table we could go straight up to get our food 👍🏻Thank you Toby

Food was amazing as normal , service wasn’t so good , kept having to chase up Zoe and she was very grumpy , even the kids tried talking to her and she just looked at them and walked away which I found rude !

We have been here several times and usually the service and the food is ok, but this time the food wasn’t all that the meat was good but the roast potatoes were rock hard and cold in the middle, the parsnip was tough and not very warm, to be honest most of the Vegetables were hard and cold, the service wasn’t good after the meal we waited over half hour to have a waiter come and ask if we wanted dessert, which by than we have lost interest and ask for the bill, again we couldn’t find anyone to pay the bill so we put the money on the table and left.

Have to say I wasn't particularly impressed. To be told, after 2 hours of bad service that one of our party couldn't have their chosen desert because it took too long to prepare and they needed the table back is just awful. Along with the drinks machine not working, and generally unclean toilets, I cannot recommend this Toby.

Service was fine but food was cold turkey was dry gravy was lumpy but worst thing all the serving spoons were red hot they need some kind of padding on them like the toby in wickford worst experience I've had at this one in basildon

It was very busy but staff worked very hard to make sure everything ran smoothly. The vegetables though were almost cold and as I do not have gravy, there was no way of warming food up.

Well this being my first time at a toby carvary ,i wasnt impressed , my parents friends booked for 7 of us , if you love sunday dinners this is right up your street , as a suffor of ibs , there wasnt much i could eat , as i cant eat cheese or onion , it is in most things on the menu and i dont eat them , so i ended up with garlic bread and a prawn sandwich , dont cone here expecting to eat other things as this is mostly a cavary , the sandwich i had wasnt grwat and the garlic bread wasnt much better ,i left hungry and dissapointed

Had the most terrible service here...no doubt the staff are racist here. Me and my friend (who are of an ethnic background) was ignored. They rarely came to our table to ask if we wanted anymore drink or even asked if we wanted dessert. They were so quick to take our plates when we finished but never came over again to ask if we wanted dessert knowing we was going for the 2 course meal. We spoke to the manager and she showed no remorse or nothing about our experience. I can tell you now, if you're Caucasian you're good...if you're of ethnic background don't be surprised if you get ignored or walked passed the whole time you're there. We even had to ask to order...absolutely disgusting. Just when you think racism is past all of this, there are still low key people out there who still have this mentality. Never coming to Basildon Toby's ever again. Disgusting behaviour from all staff, especially the manager.

Very nice, didnt know there were a choice of 5 meats on a Sunday (lamb, beef, gammon, pork, turkey) beef dripping toast potaoes were spot on, veg cooked lovely, everything piping hot was really impressed

Very nice as we went around 3:30 today Thursday so not busy at all. I would imagine the very busy times would get pretty noisy so ideal time to go. Lovely food, too much of it. Very friendly helpful staff. If you fancy a nice roast dinner definitely the place to go. Very well priced food.

Excellent service food ok delivery driver very polite

Seated as requested in booking (a gift from family). Online service was easy to use. Grand-children were able to choose their meal without fuss. They even had seconds! Our son had the gut buster portion and was very satisfied

Came with friends, was a good night, food was as expected and tasted good, staff were friendly and a overall good experience.

Food was stone cold and veg was mostly potato. Taste was good however and nothing forgotten. Would have been full stars had it been at least warm and better variety of veg other than peas and carrots.

absolutely no seasoning food was very bland and dull except the pigs in blankets due to the salty bacon. SEASON AND TASTE YOUR COOKING.

Great restaurant, plenty of parking and lots of tables.. very nicely decorated for Christmas too.. Lauren our server was great and thankyou for taking photos of our group!! Great banter with the staff, they always seem to appreciate it .. Definatly recommend. My only criticism is that the brandy sauce needs to have more brandy please !!

My neighbor buys her 8 yr old a kids carvery every day delivered. Hes autistic with aspergers and tourettes and its all hell eat .food is big deal if u get it wrong,ull probably wear it so she dont fight him meat veg etc. Better than mcds

It is a nice and quiet place to have breakfast with family and friends. Affordable and tasty, yeah, I recommend.

Best Toby around, have some locally but not a patch on this one. Efficient staff, good hot food with plentiful selection of vegetables.

I did not have the carvery I had the Yorkshire wrap with a side of cheesy potatoes the wrap was nice but they could do a lot more with it like add a bit more food to it the cheesy potatoes are really good would definitely go back

Wow, I haven't been back to a Toby for years having worked there many moons ago. I'm so glad I returned, lovley welcome, fantastic and hot food, friendly chefs and lovely clean restaurant to sit in! Nice portions of meat which was juicy and hot and lovley crispy potatoes! Colin was our server, very attentive and friendly, he really looked after us, recommended the plum Crumble for puddings a really enjoyed it! Highly recommend! Thank you Brian, Colin and the team!

Fantastic Sunday Carvery! I have not been back to a Toby Carvery for years after working there many moons ago! I'm so glad I returned, lovley welcome, fantastic hot food, friendly chefs and lovley clean restaurant to sit in! Nice portions of meat which was juicy and hot and lovely crispy potatoes! Colin was our server very attentive and friendly, he really looked after us, recommended the plum crumble for puddings and really enjoyed it! Highly recommended! Thank you Brian, Colin and the team!

Not the best visit food was very poor but I am a lover of Toby restaurants.This one was poor

Brought to our table quickly which was ready with high chair as requested. After that, service was lacking because the waiter was hard to find. Every table had to look for him for menus, the bill and to pay. Carvery was lukewarm at best, carrots were grey, Yorkshire pudings were dried out, gravy had a skin from being reheated to basically room temp, defoe being brought out fresh. Kids chicken burger had the most paltry sized anemic nuggets imaginable. Kids meal came immediately but we had to queue 20mins for carvery. There are no trays at carvery so we all had to queue individually while one of us watched the kids so we all ate separately. Overall, it was awful and we'll never be back. I have no idea why it was packed or why there were people waiting for tables

Always try to visit 2-3 times a month as lovely treat. Always great service, enjoyed it more on my last visit as parsnip was on the menu. Oh joy.

Very clean restaurant and lovely service from a particular waitress. It was lovely to see parsnips and sprouts as a choice added to the vegetables.

Very pricey when looking at what you get for it. The staff also were just sat together on their phones which delayed service on an otherwise very quiet evening. On top of that, the chef seemed absolutely miserable. I don’t expect anything out of the ordinary or above and beyond to any extent. But at least just prioritise customers when they arrive and serve everyone with a smile. These are the bare minimum expectations and it’s a shame to see that even these standard can’t be upheld.

Had the Sunday carvery and it was exquisite

Very good food, great staff and good value for money. You can get an extra large plate that you can refill, a refillable drink and a desert for less than £25. Would definitely recommend to any roast dinner lovers

Tried the breakfast today and have to say it was terrible Worse than a cheap all inclusive breakfast in some shady hotel It was either burnt or uncocked The eggs was snotty The sausage burnt And the hash browns wet and uncooked Now I’ve had roasts here before and they seem ok But avoid for breakfast as just about the worse I’ve had

The food was very good as was the staff.. Unfortunately the toilets especially the ladies were appalling smelly and very dirty and unhygienic as a result dirty toilets=dirty kitchen= unacceptable

Rachel was our server and the 2 points go to her.food i would give 0 if i could. The food was awful no taste bland greasy .first time ive been basildon and never again.when rachel asked if we enjoyed it i said no it was cold .she said if we had said she would have heated it up in microwave.so you spend all that money to heat food in microwave.no thanks. We got 4 pounds off our bill.but thats not the point food was cold and greasy and bland.

It's a Toby Carvery, reasonable food/prices etc. Service could be a little better.

Went there for the 'too good to go' app order. Staff were polite and friendly, saw to us quickly, and the food was absolutely spot on! Been a few more times for the reason as above and my review will not change. Thanks Toby

The toby at festival leisure is clean and tidy, well presented both inside and out . The staff where welcoming and friendly. We didn't wait to long as we was bit early and sat in small bar area with our drinks. The waitress was nice. The only things that let toby down for me and my husband where, The meat was carved too thinly and small portion, the stuffing was dry and no mini dessert and coffee offer on menu.

Dinner was beautiful. Plenty to choose from. So was the pudding. The waiter was friendly and gave prompt service

Food ok but needs to be a bit warmer

You know what to expect from Toby's a good Sunday dinner, the food was OK, all bar the potatoes I had 3 types and didn't eat any, it was like they had been undercooked & burnt all at once, the rest was lovely including dessert. Overall good but spud do better.
