Had a couple of pizza and one beer and one zero alcohol beer. Bill came to £35 which I thought was expensive as the drinks were £12.50. Pizza were average but the service food. Too expensive for me so won’t be rushing back.

When there are plenty of coffee shops in the surrounding area, you’d like to think that Toast would try their best to actually provide a good customer experience… Our server was rude, in-polite.. quite frankly terrible at his job.. Our food had to be re-ordered 3 times, all with no apology and haste. Oh and the coffee is served in ‘quirky’ mugs that are inefficient at their job. I do not recommend whatsoever. A very bad experience

A kipper should be filleted whole, oak smoked and presented grilled and in tact . This was a sardine sized kipper which bore little resemblance to the real fish. If it was cheap and cheerful I would accept but it was approx £12.00 and was not worth the money nor was it tasty . Shame as was really looking forward to a quality breakfast. Maybe try and get authentic kippers would be a good start.

It is such a shame, as the food that we ordered was slow to arrive, but was really nice, with one chef you don’t mind waiting if the food is done well. However, what lets this place down is the service, it slaps of inexperienced staff with a lax attitude to service standards - very laid back, ‘whatever’ vibes. We ordered drinks that never arrived, had to get our own menus and ordered our food at the bar. Tables were left dirty, spills on the floors and food left waiting to be collected from the kitchen bar top while staff had a conversation. Not the best.

After what appears to be an incredibly successful rebrand from bakery to brunch hotspot, we had high expectations of our visit to Toast. If you are anything like me you may have found yourself pouring over what looks to be an excellent menu on Instagram. Unfortunately for everyone involved, we can’t pass comment on the food as service issues led to us having to leave. As there is no booking system in place, we arrived as a party of 8 on Sunday without a reservation. Initially we were informed that a table would be a 20 minute wait but they would do their best to accommodate us. We had no objections with waiting and we’re able to sit outside, undercover and under electric heaters. After around 15 minutes our drink orders were taken. After 5 more minutes we were delighted to be shown to a table inside, however this is where the problems began. 10 minutes later the server let us know that he would have to take our drinks orders again. Despite not understanding the issues, we accepted that these things happen and we reordered our coffees having now waited 30 minutes to place a successful drinks order. At seemingly random intervals drinks appeared over the next 30 minutes, with the last coffee arriving an hour after we entered the building. At this point we had still not placed a food order and we raised concerns over the amount of time the food would take to be prepared, to which we were told a minimum of 20 minutes. We duly ordered, after which the server returned to explain unfortunately in the interim of us ordering, another table of 8 who sat down after us had placed their order, now pushing the minimum wait time (and availability of items we had ordered) to 40 minutes. Looking to the kitchen, we saw one chef, seemingly relaxed with headphones in and we accepted that a Toast brunch wasn’t to be. Although the waiter was affable, he had an air of unprofessionalism and gave the impression that ordering food and drinks were an inconvenience. This extended beyond our party and he was rightly confronted by another table for rolling his eyes when taking an order. For balance, £8 was removed from the bill in the end. Whist I understand the decision not to have a booking system in place, currently Toast is not able to operate at full capacity in this way and changes are needed.

Bad time to go to toast we ordered coffees which were ok. Look at the brunch menu pick what we wanted. Only to be told they had run out of what we wanted. We ordered BLT which was foul had oil on it and hollandaise sauce on not what I expected in a BLT and we got something with bacon and beans on bacon was over cooked and beans were rank. First and last time here

Quite busy when we were on Xmas Eve lunchtime. Staff were friendly, BLT was great, and one of the best lattes I've had, though far from the biggest. A bit pricy, otherwise it would have been 5 stars.

Stopped off for one drink with friends while we were on a weekend away in Tynemouth and ended up staying for 3 hours! We sat outside, which was great for people watching and when I went in to order our drinks the owner checked to see that the heating was on and that we were comfy. He couldn't have been friendlier, even brought us a bowl of fries (on the house) when we had been there a few hours. It has a lovely relaxed vibe, wish it was our local. Will definitely visit when back in the area.

Feel of the place has changed since two by two have moved in. Single tables to cram more people in, no pastries, coffee was average with milk over steamed. The cafe vibe has completely gone and this was what made the place. Not sure if it's trying to be a bar instead of cafe? Shame about the change but if its still successful then fair play.

Toast snapshots over past 18 months : I work in Dubai but return to TYNEMOUTH approx every 4 months for 2 weeks at a time, and during each time I would always visit Toast at least 3 times a week for breakfast after walking our dog ( yes dog friendly 👏👏) . Maybe a total of 15 visits over the times I came back to the UK. I loved the place , the food , the friendly service, and especially the amazing kippers and bakery . The differences between last year and my last visit in June this year (2023) was big, some I understand but others need serious attention to draw me back again. Orders must now be taken at the counter due to difficulty recruiting staff ( a common complaint across the country) ; no big inconvenience . The bakery display used to be incredible and we always made impulse purchases of their incredible croissants and bread loaves. Best almond croissants on earth. The same great croissants are still available, but FEW in number and hidden behind large screens. Appreciate the concerns for hygiene, but the previous great display only needed a lower height screen surround. The artisan bakery vibe was dramatically reduced. The menu is now on a chalk board at the back of the restaurant ( again no big deal ) , but has reduced with, I think , just 5 breakfast choices . Unfortunately on the two consecutive days I visited in June, kippers were not available, leaving just 4 options . Delays in getting our beverages and food were disappointing, although still good quality. Left me with impression to try other breakfast restaurants .

Really surprised to read some of the other reviews! I’ve been wanting to try here for ages and finally came last weekend to meet friends for brunch. The food was lovely, presented really well and a reasonable price for the portion size. We also had iced lattes which weee really nice! The staff were really friendly and the place was busy but clean and tidy! Will definitely return.

Shocking! Been twice before.Good the first time, not so good 2nd time, downright awful on this occasion Pathetic presentation, 2 other couples eating in the restaurant, 5 staff behind the counter. Couldn’t get their attention too busy on iPad and chatting. I seem to recall having coleslaw with sandwich previously. I was told they’d run out. £26 for two toasties a pot of tea and can of Diet Coke. Could have made a better job at home. Downstairs toilet disgusting! Wouldn’t recommend, overpriced, appalling customer service and disinterested staff. Definitely won’t return. Don’t expect a response from owner/s they clearly don’t care as they haven’t responded to any reviews so far. Shame on you!

I’m really disappointed to write this as I’ve used Toast as a regular venue for my customers and clients for a while now because the food is great, however I won’t be after today’s experience. I have a local movement and well-being business and run regular classes on our local beaches after which I take my clients to Toast for a post class social breakfast or consultations. This morning I took 10 of my own customers in to have a breakfast and all I can say is that I was disgusted with the poor customer service and care for the well-being of not only their customers, but mine too. After repeatedly asking if the door could be closed as everybody was complaining of how cold it was inside of the cafe, we were initially ignored by the staff who then went in to open a second door door directly behind where myself and party were sitting. I challenged this with the staff who claimed that they are instructed by the owner to have this open to ’ let air in’. Well the cafe was neither stuffy or warm and we had chose ti sit inside rather than outside as a member of our group suffers from raynaud’s and is extremely uncomfortable in the cold. However health condition or not, I don’t believe that anybody should have to eat their breakfast uncomfortable because of the temp of the room. I also challenged the rationale behind this and questioned their level of customer care, to which the member of staff shrugged their shoulders in disinterest. I have to say I found the whole situation professionally embarrassing as I’d brought my clients into a local an”local business, that I’d recommended and had to deal with a whole host of complaints about the venue. One of the women who is extremely well known in the corporate world and specialises in customer service couldn’t believe how everybody had been treated from a professional point of view. It’s safe to say I will no longer be supporting this business with my own and will be looking for a new venue to host meetings and post class socials from here on in.

Hands down this has become a landmark for disgraceful food, service, staff attitude...you name it; visits on Saturday around 11.30am which was not busy time...you now pick your own menue, sit at any table, then order your food...so far bad but palletable. The tables are so close to each other that everytime you go to order, or get a drink, or bathromm, etc you have to ask other customers to move. The menu font is so small we had to use phones to magnify the text; previously each table had a toaster so you can toast your food to your liking however, they now KEPT the toaster near each table but you cant use it as, we were told, the electrics in the restaurant are bad and previously caught fire. we went to order and it is perhaps ok if you eat eggs and ham or ready baked pastries but the menu they were previously known for has gone and what you have is the left over unedible nonsense; believe it or not, 4 slices of toast arrived with a tiny tiny side plate (size of small egg) of shredded cheese and that was £10...by the way...they aparently dont offer cheese slices...really disgraceful and shameful

Food was good, however food and drinks are overpriced in my opinion. A nice place for breakfast with a group of friends but a fairly basic / simple set up - which is not reflected in the prices. Service was hit and miss - some super friendly and others slightly frosty / hostile. A good experience overall, but would be indifferent about going back in future and would probably choose somewhere else locally.
