The service is consistently fantastic—friendly, attentive, and welcoming every single time. The team genuinely cares about creating a great experience, making sure everything is just right. The coffee is always spot on, and the brunch menu never disappoints, with fresh, delicious options to suit any craving. The atmosphere is warm and relaxed, perfect for both social and work meet-ups. It’s rare to find a place that gets it right every time, but Toast St Albans certainly does. Highly recommend!

Service was good but the food was really bad. Everything was cold. The egg was overcooked. The bread was hard, ended up with a bleeding gum from trying to eat it. The avocado was sour as it had been packed with lemon juice. Then when I mentioned the issue of the avocado I was just told that’s how they do it. Of course maybe they add some lemon juice but when it’s avocado on toast, you have to be careful it’s not too much. Maybe at that point they just didn’t want to admit to another mistake

I've tried this place before and it was alright. The food I've had today was terrible and the overall service was poor. Only giving it 2 stars because I had a good meal here in the past.

Honestly, my experience was pretty uncomfortable. The person serving me was really patronizing, and it just made me feel awkward the whole time. I was ready to leave as soon as I could.

Such a lovely place, amazing foods and great staff

First of all, the staff is super welcoming! They have a good selection of brunch options and I hope to try some on another occasion. This time we had the Shakshuka with the Halloumi and Chorizo extras, and did we get it right! It was absolutely delicious 😋 and really hearty for a winter day. Worth coming back just for the Shakshuka! Both the Mac and cheese and the Mini hash browns sides were nice. Furthermore, they are truly dog friendly, as they accommodated us and our 75 lbs ball of fur dog in a space where we would be comfortable. All in all we had a very enjoyable brunch and we'll definitely be back!

Wow! The concept seems soo simple but when the ingredients taste like this you know it’s soo much more. Quality was amazing, everything so flavourful. Loaded hash brown bites hit the spot very well too with a nice kick from the chillis. Service was attentive and friendly, couldn’t ask for much more. Perfect place for a bite to eat or drink.

This is, without doubt, St Albans's premier brunch venue. My partner and I took my elderly mother out for breakfast. Despite clearly being run off his feet, the moment we arrived to join the queue, Liam the host took time out to arrange a chair and offered her a hot drink whilst waiting. Once a table was vacant we were given complimentary hash brown bites - nice touch! Service was slick and friendly and the food great quality. Coffee was good too and all very reasonably priced. We never felt rushed, on the contrary, we were made to feel very welcome. The perfect venue, will be back for sure. Thanks team!

Great well-presented food, great coffee, great quick and friendly service. So popular- needs an upsize! Pretty crowded and noisy for comfortable conversation and needs better ventilation of food smells.

What a delicious brunch we have just enjoyed. We waited a short time for a table and it was a pleasure to see the kitchen at work on a busy shift. Never been here before and the menu is an exciting read. We had specific needs (one hard boiled egg and one runny) and the food was served perfectly. Coffee exceptional Food a genuine delight to eat. Food was stone cold, bubble & squeak was tasteless potatoes, one slice of hard bread/toast and really fatty bacon. ‘Hot’ chocolate was also cold. Very disappointed and expensive, would not recommend and won’t return.

A lovely spot to grab a brunch item. The crumble on toast was phenomenal, all the components coming together brilliantly. Noise in the space does echo a bit, but very tolerable.

Nearly everything was good, the food was excellent , especially the poached eggs. The pricing was reasonable for the quality of food. The service was friendly and swift, the waitresses were lovely. However, I have not given 5 stars overall, because of one member of staff who came across as rude and abrupt. This same individual, also muttered rather loudly to his staff, as we were leaving ; ' have they paid?' luckily for him, my partner only told me when we were halfway down the street. I am not clear what gave this man the impression , we were the type of people who would not pay for our food. I am new to st Albans and up until now everyone has been lovely and welcoming. I am hoping this was an off day on the part of this person. I think he was the manager. We would definitely, eat here again, but this man needs to sort his attitude out, as it has put me off, sadly.

We absolutely love Toast. It’s become our favourite family breakfast spot on Sundays. The food is beautiful & fresh with delicious flavour. The shakshuka is divine and the hash brown bites are amazing! Staff and service are absolutely charming and cannot recommend the restaurant highly enough.

Buzzy cafe near the town city, small but nice cooked breakfasts and pastries available.

The salmon smash was one of the best brunches I have ever had. Not local and went there specially. The seating area is all a bit tight and rather noisy but all added to the vibe.

Average, had to wait long for the food, it was a bit oily and it is a very noisy place, they can do with installing some acoustic panels.

Now this will sound weird but if you eat keto this is the place to go. They substitute bread for mushrooms or tomatoes. I chose mushrooms and for the first time I felt like I wasn’t missing anything (I’m also allergic to egg white so I’m 🔩d a lot of the time). The spicy halloumi was delicious

We’ve popped in here for brunch after visiting the area for the weekend. There’s always a queue here (as we were told by some people waiting) but don’t let that put you off. We’ve waited 10mins max to be seated. The tables and chairs are a bit snug so be prepared to rub shoulders with some strangers! Food definitely was the highlight of this place. I’ve tried Mexican beans and my partner had a full English. It was super filling and definitely great value for money. Mini hashbrowns are a must try too!

Foods are amazing, I was brought in by friend and I will definitely back here again. Your tongue will be dancing with those flavours.

Had breakfast at Toast this Monday, could not believe the high reviews, but thought id try them anyway. I was not disappointed, wonderful to experience fantastic food matched with good service. No sticky forearms after sitting down!!! I had the Chilli Chorizo Egg on a healthy slice of Sourdough, smashing. Filter coffee was great and the service casually efficient. This is a wonderful establishment, I hope they are well supported in the future so I can continue enjoying great meals there for years to come.

Coffee is perfection, food was made with love, service was outstanding and the atmosphere was on point. Thank you for this little gem of a spot.

Always my first choice brunch spot for a post-workout brunch with the girls! Friendly and personable service, great coffee and an excellent selection of original brunch options. Haven’t tried the sweet treats or cocktails but the selection looks great. Will be back!

This is my go to lunch place when I want something more than a sandwich. I had the chorizo and scrambled egg, it arrived quickly, and looked as good at it tasted. My only suggestion would be to offer bread alternatives, as I struggle a bit with the crunchiness of sourdough, but that is everywhere, not unique to 'Toast'

Only found out about this place, the honey halloumi was amazing and the loaded potatoes tots were delicious! The staff were very attentive and friendly. I will definitely be back.

Full disclosure, this was my second visit and i owed it to toast to review after my first visit, with that said, let's go. Toast describes itself as a brunch restaurant, bringing coffee, cocktails and "things on toast". Thats exactly what it is and what it does. Like i said this was my second visit and once again, did not fail to leave me smiling. This establishment is not a huge place by any stretch of the imagination but seating is laid out in a way so as not to feel constrained, i didnt feel like people were on top of me. I was welcomed with a warm smile and immediately sat me down. It was a window stool and the server kindly lowered the blinds as it was incredibly bright and hot outside. Pretty much every seat apart from the two window stools were taken, which in my book is a good sign, its popular for sure. After being seated i briefly pondered the menu and gave up almost immediately, every dish sounded great and made it too difficult to choose, so i asked the chef. I dont have any dietry requirements or preferences so im good with that. He said his "Go to" was the Chimi steak, right, done, sold, lets go! I ordered, received my flat white promptly and sat and soaked in the atmospherics, again. I enjoyed sitting with my coffee listening to the voices chattering and laughing, the sounds of crockery and glasses clinking, the distant sounds of labour from the kitchen, it all adds to the nostalgic experience. Toast use good quality produce and the selection, you can tell has been thought about. So my Chimi steak arrives and i am not disappointed. A circular plate housing what would be described as warm happiness. The Marinated Rump steak was cooked medium, with a nicely seared crust, coated in Chimichuri and on top was a perfectly fried egg, all laid on a thick cut slice of sourdough toast, accompanied by a cute little ceramic pot of the lightest fluffiest little hash brown balls. Honestly it was incredible. The whole experience was, i will return again and again, next time to review the sweets on toast. This place is a little gem and the staff here are brilliant, they work hard and really make you feel welcome. Its clean and almost Scandi feel really appeals to me and clearly many others. It definitely feels like a local business run by people who care it does not feel like a business, it feels more like you have been invited to eat at a friends home. Such a simple idea, different toppings on quality toasted bread. Delicious food, good service, baby friendly. Even though I didn't have one I really liked that they offered cocktails. Hot chocolate was a winner too!

Good service here but with a few unnecessary sarcastic comments from our server with regards to our orders. I was a bit taken aback that I couldn’t order just a piece of toast and butter, even though they’re making toast for people all the time, and the clue is in the name of the cafe!

Best cappuccino in St Albans... and then there is the toast! Lovely dishes although make sure to ask for extra maple syrup as sometimes can be a bit too light. High recommended regardless!

Went on Monday with my partner and we had an amazing lunch date!! 🤩 The steak was lovely, cheese on toast was delicious and crunchy nut was super good 😋 Also recommend their loaded hash brown bites coz anything with cheese is always the best 👌🏻✨

Toast! Exactly what it says on the tin - stuff on toast, done incredibly well. We had some loaded hash brown bites, some spiced scrambled eggs and chilly chorizo on sourdough, hot honey halloumi and two coffees. Came to under 40 and would come again in a heart beat. Incredible tasting dishes, wonderful atmosphere, great staff and attention to detail with the dishes and coffee The coffee was delicious, the bean is from a popular London roaster called gentleman barista. The coffee itself had decent art and the only small issue out of the whole experience was that it was a little too hot and a bit too much foam for a cortado but that didn’t matter with it tasting delicious, notes of chocolate. Couldn’t recommend this place more. A little hidden gem in the area.

Always our first choice for St Albans - excellent menu, wonderful staff and brilliant vibe. Great for coffee lovers and those looking for a great spin on traditional breakfast. I have also been to many events here in the evening and it's an excellent location and place to host an intimate event in the heart of town. Would recommend!

I must say and therefore shared this find… what a gem… covers all aspects… food spot on, friendly, funny yet professional service, quality of produce, attention the detail… I live in Hertford and will travel to have breakfast, brunch here. Well done 👍

5 stars and I'd give it 6 if I could. Me, my wife and our 1 week old were welcomed and seated instantly in a great spot for the buggy by a lovely waitress. The food and iced latte were incredible. A lot of attention to details like a thick glass with lots of ice. Service was friendly and helpful. Even the baby changing facilities were good. Nice decor and clearly Toast have high standards all round. Will be going back regularly as locals.

Not the greatest experience. We queued for more than half an hour to get a table as the place is quite popular. The place is quite noisy with the open kitchen (I didn't have the greatest view, facing a cook underwear as his trousers were too loose). The waiter was quick to get our order. However we waited about an hour to get our main...toasts obviously. Quite underwhelming. The toasts were not thick enough. All really thin. The plate presentation was not as neat as the other pictures I've seen. Good point for the customer service: When requesting the bill, they did acknowledge the long wait and gave us a 10% off the bill.

A great place for brunch, but could do with some sound proofing - me and my partner really struggled to hear each other amongst the surrounding conversations and clutter from the kitchen. Other than that, the food was fantastic and it's a great place - a must visit in St Albans!

A fantastic spot, great atmosphere, lovely staff and food just amazing from the brunches to the pastries (try the cherry danish) and alongside good coffee. This is a fab spot for some laptop time or catch up with friends!

We had an absolutely exceptional brunch at Toast this morning. So hard to decide what to choose as everything coming out of the kitchen looked delicious. We opted for the Hot Honey Halloumi with smashed avo and green harrisa sauce which was undoubtedly the best thing we’ve ever tasted & the Chilli Chorizo scrambled eggs which was * chefs kiss * The bloody Mary’s were perfection, you could tell it had great quality ingredients (which makes all the difference!) The only downside for us is that you’re a good 2.5 hour drive away, else we would be your new fave regulars!

Came for breakfast and WHAT A TREAT. Top quality service and food was INCREDIBLE. Had hot honey halloumi and WOW, it was just heavenly! Coffee great quality. Would 100% recommend.

Wow! What a warm, friendly, down to earth, classy, delicious venue! We had such a lovely afternoon, the staff couldn’t have been more welcoming, friendly, attentive and professional. We were seated promptly, once they knew it was my mums birthday we were given a delicious bowl of hash brown bites with a birthday candle as a gift, this was followed by absolutely delicious food! Toast is the epiphany of how to do something really, really well, congratulations! I shall spread the word and be a regular!

This is by far my favourite brunch spot in the whole of Hertfordshire. The manager who owns the cafe is extreme attentive and kind. The food is fantastic and you feel really looked after by the staff. Couldn’t recommend anymore! It is quite busy on weekends so can get noisy and cramped but hopefully they can expand soon!!

Very delicious food! My toast was a little crunchy but I think I just like it really under- toasted. Shakshuka and hashbrowns were great. Music slightly loud but better than other places ive been.

We came to St Albans for a day trip and found this place for breakfast/brunch. The atmosphere is lovely and we got seated very quickly and food came super fast! Recommend the loaded hash bites they are AMAZING. The hot drinks are unbeatable and if you are a fan of matcha then the matcha latte is lovely with syrup! We also highly recommend the Hot Honey Halloumi with chorizo! Gorgeous combo! Will definitely come here again if we visited St Albans again! :) The only bad thing I’d say is when the sun is shining and it’s warm, it gets very hot inside especially when it’s busy

Lovely lunch today! It's tucked just off the high street which really adds to the atmosphere and makes it a cosy place for lunch/brunch. Really interesting menu - the ultimate Millennial meal! Staff were friendly and helpful and we didn't feel rushed at all. Had the Mexican beans, halloumi toast and drinks. It was pretty busy around lunchtime but the staff were still able to squeeze us in. Lovely decor and atmosphere. Nice place to visit!

Lovely food, would definitely go again

The meal was satisfactory overall; however, the orange juice was not fresh as indicated on the menu. When I inquired with the gentleman serving our table, he insisted that the juice was fresh. I found this response to be misleading, and I believe it is essential for accurate information to be provided to customers. If it is not freshly squeezed then it is mot fresh.

It was very busy when we went but the food was really worth it. Good service.
