We found this gem after getting drenched in a torrential downpour as we walked along the coast path at Polzeath. We made our way up their spiral staircase to investigate the type of cuisine on offer and the young lady there cheerfully handed us a menu and invited us to take a seat while we considered our options. We decided to stay and were delighted with our meal - freshly cooked to order, and the friendliest staff , even moving us to a more comfortable table at one point when that was vacated. We can only imagine how lovely it would be to sit out on their terrace in more favourable weather, watching all the activity down on the beach. We would certainly return if visiting Polzeath again. Don’t expect fine dining or a hugely diverse menu - just enjoy the tasty food and friendly ambiance.

Grabbed two Fish &Chips dinners on a busy April bank holiday. Place was pretty full so we sat out on the terrace and ate it in the warm drizzle.😂 Staff were great, kept coming out and checking we were ok, food was hot and the F&C's were the best we've had for ages.. (and we live in Cornwall). Well worth a visit and take to the outside terrace whatever the weather, the view out to the bay is well worth it..👍🏻👍🏻🏄

Been a number of times now and three things are consistently true (1) food is great - particularly soup of the day and the salads (2) service is friendly (3) genuinely dog friendly, even down to the chopped cold sausage. Perfect place for a snack after or mid walk! Does exactly what it says on the tin.

We called here for lunch. It has views onto the beach. The waitress took our order but forgot to put it through, so we were left waiting a long time. The cafe is small and was full when we visited, and everyone had at least 1 or 2 dogs, owners were queuing at the bar and around the door area, leads tangling and dogs everywhere, I am not keen on them and was very uncomfortable indeed trying to get around them. This coupled with loud, obnoxious, shouting customers made this a very unpleasant experience. (Perhaps that’s what some people call a ‘vibe’) The food and coffee was nice though, when it eventually came.

A great place to eat, nice food, and staff are really friendly. We have eaten out in lots of places in the area this week and this is definitely the best.

Formula One performance!……..staff, food and setting were brilliant. We walked into Polzeath with our dog Oakley the Golden Retriever and arrived at TJs for breakfast just after 10:00. Wife had half a Cornish breakfast and I had the veggie breakfast, both cooked to perfection. Each time we’ve been the staff are extra attentive, warm and caring, they make you feel like they’re inviting you into their own home. Check the timings at this time of year, opened for breakfast today at 10:00. Cannot recommend this place enough.

Stumbled across TJ's when staying in Polzeath for a few days. It wasn't open when we arrived possibly due to being out of season but opened Fri/Sat/Sun. We had breakfast and dinner here twice, absolutely delicious. Beans on toast one day (£6) and veggie breakfast next day(£11) which was amazing and to much for me to eat. For dinner we had Margaretta pizza, skin on chips and garlic ciabatta (£15) to share (7.50 each), plenty for 2 people. If they had been open for the duration of our stay we would probably have eaten there every day.

Drove an hour to get there and arrived at 3pm only to be told they're now closing. Google business page shows open until 8pm, keep business hours up to date.

Amazing seared scallops with crispy bacon and black pudding!!! Nice meaty burger. Excellent service. Wonderful place. Highly recommended.

I’ve been coming to TJ’s since 2017, and it never disappoints! The food is consistently great, and I love the location on the beach and relaxed atmosphere here. TJ’s is really good value - the food portions are excellent for the money. I really recommend their loaded sweet potato fries and paninis. It’s also a great spot for a hearty breakfast and delicious coffee. The team at TJ’s are helpful and friendly, though service can sometimes be a little slow as there is often minimal staff. The café is very dog friendly and even offers sausages for dogs on the menu! It’s also great for a post-surf feed, but note that no wet wetsuits are allowed inside the café. Plenty of outdoor seating on the terrace, though! Can’t wait to come back again soon 😇

Love this place. Been here several times with family over the summer and returned last night with a group of friends. Another great evening with fantastic food and a great relaxed atmosphere. It’s popular and can get busy, particularly when the weather is good and people are seated outside on the deck, so we usually book. The staff have always been friendly and can’t do enough for you.

Gorgeous food with fast and polite service and a 10/10 location with views across the beach. Great selection of food... the mussels were to die for! We had dinner on our first evening and came back twice later in the week! Can't wait for our next visit!

Fantastic fish and chips and even better mussels! Both lots of seafood were incredibly fresh as you would expect and very healthy portions too. We managed to get a table at the last minute for dinner and we couldn’t have found a better spot. Staff were very friendly and helpful! All in all 10/10

Still sitting here waiting for a meal that I ordered well over an hour ago. People who arrived after us are paying their bills and leaving. We’ve actually had to ask to get a round of drinks on the house as compensation. Should have been offered as a matter of course the second they realised (after being prompted about the lengthy wait) that they’d lost our order. We were told a ‘technical glitch’. Nobody else had been inconvenienced by a ‘technical glitch’. So very disappointed. Food finally arrived and, thankfully, was delicious. Such a shame.

Delicious food served in a great location. We had a lovely dinner here with very friendly service and great choice. The goats cheese salad was excellent and everyone enjoyed their food. The restaurant allows dogs (including inside). The only downside is that it is up a spiral staircase which may not be accessible for some. Some of the group went back for an excellent breakfast. Recommended - booking ahead advisable.

Nice food overlooking the beach at Polzeath but let down by really poor forgetful service meaning food was delayed badly. It’s understandable, mistakes happen; but the waiter, the only person taking food orders outside, said he didn’t know who took our order and when checking said it hadn’t been put through. I guess this happens when relying on seasonal staff but could do with improving.

I had an absolutely fantastic experience at TJ's Surf Cafe during my recent visit. The beachside location created a perfect ambiance, overlooking the stunning Cornish beach where people were enjoying body surfing and surfing. Service to start was rather slow. Four other tables that sat after us were served before had to flag someone down to get served. However upon placing our order drinks came fast and food followed shortly after. Be prepared to deal with a load of wasps, I would suggest the business look for a wasps nest as there was an abnormal amount of them. I would give higher but staff are not attentive, you have to hunt them down, tables are dirty, clean ones lacking menus or cutlery and asking them for service or cutlery was returned with a look as if you have asked them something in a foreign language.

We went to TJ's Surf Cafe on a whim... it ended up being INCREDIBLE! We hadn't booked, but they still found us a table to grab a bite. The chicken burger was possibly the best I've ever had. Superb views & excellent service... we'll absolutely be back! PS: If you park on the beach, keep an eye out for the tide!

So disappointed. I'd wanted to eat here for so long as it's a rooftop bar overlooking the beach. We always leave it too late!!! This year we found a free table. It did need clearing but I stacked everything to one side. 15 mins later...

It was a very nice breakfast spoilt by my request to change mushroom to an extra hash brown. I was charged £1.50 extra for the hash brown but no reduction for not having the mushroom. Also forgot the toast I ordered but fortunately not charged...

My partner and I both enjoyed the chicken burgers (his with added bacon and cheese). As well as strawberry and chocolate milkshakes. Overall, the food and shakes tasted great, a little pricey but due to the location (right on the beach front) it was expected. What an amazing place. Great location with stunning views of the beach Went there for lunch with 4 adults and 3 kids and the food was so good, and so much better than we were expecting from a beach cafe. Polzeath is a wonderful place and I totaly understand that these cafes and bars need to earn a living but some of your menu items are not value for money at all especially your Asian chicken burger £13 .. rip off.. and it don't taste that great with whatever sauce you put on it.. and what is that sauce you out on your salad it's disgusting.

We booked a table which is advisable on a Friday evening. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The food and service were exceptional for this kind of venue. The atmosphere was laid back and easy going which made the dining experience all the better. Personally I feel this is more of a restaurant dining experience so don’t let the term cafe put you off. Best food, nicest place, most competently run restaurant in Polzeath so far. The team seemed relaxed, well-oiled, well led, friendly with each other and us. More and better vegetables than elsewhere. Competent, authentic and galant way to deal with a minor mishap — a sign of true quality! Going to Polzeath hungry? Go straight to TJ’s, even if it is right on the beach.
