I called in for a pint or two, July 2018. Only one real ale available, the cardboard label said it was Doombar. Firstly it smelled rank, secondly, you couldn't see through it, thirdly, it tasted awful. There was no point giving it back as they obviously don't know how to keep real ale and there was no other option anyway. Looking around, I certainly wouldn't eat there.

Visited for meet up with friends. No vegetarian options on the menu. They then offered me chips and something. Children running around in the bar area even thought it was past 8.30pm. Children kept coming over near us and screaming. Will NOT visit again.

A family meal here turned out to be one of the best meals weve had anywhere in a long time!! The ribs were so tasty and full of meat, the salad that came with it was lovely and colourful and the chips were lovely too! Then, the 8 ounce burger was so juicy and tasty too that we all wish we had ordered that! Definately great value for money and will definately be going back again soon! Cant wait to try one of the roast dinners! :) definately recommend!! 5***

We booked for a family meal here on 12th August, mainly as our son likes acoustic music and there was a singer performing that night. I had also visited a few years ago and was very impressed with the venue and the food. Suffice to say, we will not be returning anytime soon. On entering the pub, it is clear that the owners have not done much to spruce up the place. Dirty windows, curtain rails hanging with no curtains, sticky tables, small tables, bad paint jobs on the walls, plaster peeling off the ceiling. We considered cancelling the booking and going elsewhere but we decided to check the menu. The menu is limited, very limited to chips and anything that goes with it. Steak, battered fish or gammon. It was poor. I couldn't choose anything of the menu so I asked if I could have the ham salad from the lunch menu. I paid £6.95 for lettuce, a bit of cucumber, 5 halves of cherry tomatoes and ham which was clearly from a pack. To be fair, the others did like their food except it took such a long time to come out. There is a lack of organisation throughout - bar staff and kitchen. Even some people who were there for a drink started to help clear plates and glasses etc (I'm not sure if they normally work there). These are basic things in a pub that serves food so I would recommend staying away until a bit more emphasis is put on basic look and running of the pub. NOt recommended.

We bought a voucher from PFM and booked a table for 3 on the 12th aug. I had phoned to make sure they catered for vegetarians as my Daughter can't digest meat products. We were very disappointed with the menu, it only had a few items to chose from and some of these were not available . It has a good list of steaks but yet again only 3 were available. The couple running the bar were far from organised and didn't have the most basic things , no lemon, no soda on tap, just over priced bottles. Although the lady doing the cooking was very friendly and did her best to offer meal choices to my Daughter the burger was from a supermarket frozen range, When i asked for the desert menu we were told there might be some Baileys cheese cake , or we could have ice cream, or chocolate brownie sundae, We had the cheesecake, served on it's own, no cream, or fruit to decorate it and it tasted stale and had no flavour at all. In the end we spent as much on a few drinks as we had done on the food voucher. If i had my time over again I would have spent our hard earned cash in a more reliable establishment. We will not be going back, left feeling cheated and hungry,

It was really busy and there seemed to be one waitress, she notified us of the wait due to the orders and it was fine. We got an amazing quantity of food it was all cooked really well as I had the carnhell burger, the kids loved their basket meals. Lovely food, fab service with a smile and all of our needs were catered for! Will return again and again when we come down on holiday!!!

A very pleasant evening overall. The waiter was good and the food was served in a friendly manner. The price was reasonable and the food was cooked nicely. But could I get a cup of coffee to round off the meal? I most certainly could not! That was a bit weird to say the least. I declined cake and ice cream etc, but was blanked when it came to a cup of coffee. Why I ask?

After having a wonderful meal six years ago in this pub I was looking forward to another. Only six people in the place, one couple and who appeared to be four local men. As I stood at the bar to order one of locals pointed out "that's my seat". I moved further down the bar, ordered a pint and enquired about food. The person I assumed to be the landlord informed me the had just taken over and the kitchen was being refurbished. I made do with a couple of packets of crisps. Half hour later a lady walked in asked the locals what they wanted to eat and went into the kitchen that was being " refurbished ". Half hour later she appeared with four substantial meals. Seeing somebody was cooking meals and knowing I required a meal at some point I would have thought the landlord would have offered something, even it was only a bowl of chips. I had decided not to give them anymore of my custom but as the bad language from the locals got louder and more frequent I thought it was time to leave. It seems like the place is being run by the group of locals and not the landlord. Fine if that what he wants but I wouldn't think the holiday trade will find it acceptable.

We have eaten here before and had always been very impressed so had no hesitation coming back.We were the first people in and received a warm welcome from the charming landlady who served us a couple of pints of crystal clear Sharps Special Ale and took our order for two roast beef meals. The food arrived in good time and wow, what a meal, the beef and vegetables were fresh and perfectly cooked with gorgeous home made stuffing and gravy. The attention to detail and pride taken in the food was clear to see and there was plenty of it.We eat out a lot but simply cannot ever remember eating a better roast dinner.Note to self, must go back soon to sample the rest of the menu!

After leaving a review on the owners request on facebook, after giving a poor mark I gave my review as both someone who had been in the food restaurant, chefing and managemnt and also as a magazine food editor. It`s never nice to have to read a bad review but clearly the owner of this Pub has an over inflated view of there food and there pub.If you are someone who does not prepare fresh home cooked food at home then you will probably like this food. However if like me you do know the difference forget it.Frozen prawns, no seasoning and an uninspired menu and bland service like the food. For most people in Cornwall they don`t really seem to know the difference in food, real food or passion.Pass it by and buy some good ingredients at Dax Deli or indeed have there proparly cooked, seasoned and delicious seafood NO frozen prawns here.

To be fair, my TA score is for the night, not for future disappointment. Both our meals were lovely, a small mistake with a dish that was instantly rectified and the price was excellent too due to our Gourmet Society discount. Service was spot on also. A star is knocked off for the gents toilet, which has been mentioned before, not good. I thought hot running water was a requirement under Health & Safety Laws, clearly not.We were sure we had found a hidden gem, somewhere we could return to often due to the quality and price. Sadly not, as I was told during re-booking a few weeks later that they no longer accept the Gourmet Society card. The Gourmet Society still advertise the Pendarves Inn 2 4 1 main meal deal, so perhaps the inn should honour the deal until their ad page is removed from the societies website. It would be good to hear why they left the Gourmet Society, it's probably the best mid ranged restaurant, local to us, on their site.At full price, its on par with a few local restaurants so we may return, perhaps just for a drink if the chef will let us through the door after this review. A disguise may be required going on past review replies!

I found this little gem of a gastro pub on Trip Advisor. This has to be one of the best meals I have ever had in a pub! The menu is small but they have specials at the weekend (Friday and Saturday Nights), this weekend was lobster! I booked last minute on the evening and we were lucky to get a table, it is vital you book because the pub was heaving. We booked a table for 7.30pm and ordered cocktails and vintage at the bar when we arrived. We perused the menus and I opted for the Cornish steak and my husband the starter of mushrooms and main course of lobster spaghetti. We also ordered a bottle of the rose pinotage. The food takes a little while to come but you do not mind when everything is freshly cooked. The mushrooms we garlicy and served on toasted crostini, the chef had used coriander on top which my husband doesn’t like, personal preference. The main courses were out of this world. The Cornish rump is the best steak I have ever eaten. It texture was more like a fillet than a rump; it just melted in your mouth- WOW!!!! Again, my husband enjoyed the lobster spaghetti thoroughly although there was also coriander on this dish also. We had ice cream for dessert, my niece had the chocolate brownie and she let me try some and it was fantastic. This place was the best place we ate all week in Cornwall. I cannot wait to go back next year and sample the other delights on the menu. A huge thank you to the chef and staff at the Pendarves Inn for excellent service and superb food. This place just oozes class!! If in the area you MUST visit…

They have turned it in to the best pub in the area by far in that time and I make any excuse I can to go and eat their food. Ignore any stupid review moaning about pies/toilets/taste card/high prices. I am very fussy and think there is great choice and value for money here. I really didn't think my experiences of the Pendarves Inn could get any better, but they proved me wrong again. Six of us went over for a celebratory meal prior to my brother and his partner moving to Kefalonia. We all agreed it was superb on all accounts, food, service atmosphere and cost.Personally, I had the smoked meat platter for starters and this was tasty, not too overstocked and combined with the home made bread was a delight. My main course of a whole lobster (this was a lobster event weekend) was moist, tasty and prepared so that it was easy enough to eat without having to have any engineering tools to hand; but at the same time delightfully presented. For dessert it was back to one of my staple favourites, bread and butter pudding. This was done differently to the normal baked in a try with a custard type saucer and came as a small bread tower that remained moist, and was complemented well with the sauces on the plate. This visit is now bordering on being in joint position as the best meal I've ever had in Cornwall. Thanks guys and gals, you did us proud from the hospitality people to the chef, pat yourselves on the back.

Arrived at 7pm to find only one of the tables occupied in restuarant area - so very quiet. Made welcome by all the staff and waitress was almost apologetic when she said it would take 20 minutes for the main course (which was fine). The presentation and standard of the food was of a much higher standard than you would expect from a typical village pub. All aspects of the food could not be faulted and was perfect. The surroundings were more typical of a long established local village pub, ie mixed decor from various periods but clean and tidy. The pub area was lively with local people (who were not unfriendly) . The background music was kept to a low volume and the noise from pub area was not loud. Prices are typical for high quality pub food ie main courses around £8 - £15 but I felt we got a very good meal for the price. Not sure why it was quiet and it will join my list of great places to eat.

We visited again on Sunday, not for any special occasion but we were treated as if were celebrating. The new menu has some traditional meals and some new, we (as a couple) shared the tacos starter which was taste provoking, then Allens special stir fry, last year I tried the chicken version but he had a new variation this time which was delicious, cooked to perfection and local ice creams to finish. Not an expensive meal out but cooked as always to perfection by Allen. I notice they now have 'alpaca' burgers as a special, must book to try these, they sound delicious and something new.Their new decor has made the atmosphere more elegant, love the wooden floor in the snug area and the new soft furnishings make it lighter but still cosy.I have read the previous review and find it completely unjustified, Karina is extremely polite always and goes out of her way to ensure a good good dining experience in the restaurant, to be honest Pendarves does not need these discount eaters and as for the sweeping comment advising people not to eat here then I would suggest everyone reads the calibre of the reviewer, referring to the owner as 'the girl' is purely ignorant when Karina (the owner) is beautiful and University, describing a couple as 'nasty people' just because this reviewer arrived on the wrong day and could not have half price meals is hardly the genuine critic that anyone should take any notice of, perhaps TripAdvisor should vet the people it allows to review on these pages and ensure that they have some comments and information to share and are able to share it in a professional manner...go and see for yourself, the food is fantastic or have a takeaway and dine at home to enjoy Allens' superb cuisine. This years bar selection seems to have grown as well, I enjoy my non-alcoholic beverages and there is a lovely selection of presse and fruit juices and fresh coffee at the bar.

I am a little apprehensive about submitting this review as I have read the owners agressive and sometimes passive aggressive response to various negative comments. My experience is as follows. I travelled from manchester to Cornwall for a few days. I had a look on TA for a good restaurant. This one came up and as coincidence has it they are also on Taste card... this means you get the meal for two at HALF PRICE. ACording to the taste card site they DO take the card on a Sunday. When I called I booked the table for tonight (sunday) I DID advise the girl that I had the taste card. She said something about Thursday. I advised no. It was tonight. All was ok. We left our apartment and drove for 30 miles to this great place. Long story short. I told the girl my name and reminded her it was with a taste card. She said. No. I heard Thursday. I tried to explain about our conversation. She said no. We don't take the card on Sunday. She advised us to either sit down or go as she was too busy to argue. I wasn't even arguing I was mearly pointing out what had been agreed on the phone. She was incredibly rude and we decided to leave as i was not prepared to spend my money here no matter how far i had travelled.Nasty people. She is the owner and did not make an exception due to her mistake and was rude. I urge anyone who reads this to not eat here. They are not very nice people. There are plenty of places serving good food. We then visited another pub which was excellent. You will see my review. By the way. The decor at this place is just weird. In a not good way. Me and my boyfriend went specifically to Pendarves Inn as I heard online they were good for a Sunday roast (ignoring all the negative comments on here). We turned up and immediately served at the bar and given a table. We received our food fairly quickly and initially were confused as we just had 2 huge plates of meat, potatoes and gravy...and then the girl came back with 2 trays of vegetables so yeah we had a lot of yummy food and were absolutely stuffed!!! The drinks were quite expensive but it makes sense as it is a gastropub. Only downfall is the toilets I must say, I think from what my boyfriend said the Mens is worse than the Womens but it needs to be up to the standard of the rest of the place. We stayed for a couple more drinks after the lunchers left and had a nice long walk back to Camborne!

having eaten here twice this year and had lovely meals we were looking forward to the new autumn menu on a Saturday evening. We were given the menu on a sheet of paper which we initially thought were the evening specials but this was the menu. Bit disappointed with what was available, only about 6-7 choices for mains and nothing really very interesting. 4 starters of which were £6-£7 each. Quite expensive for bread and olives!Sirloin steak was a 'special' which is normally standard which I had as there was only one available. Mine was cooked lovely and I did enjoy it. My husband had the rump steak which he described as very tough and very chewy, totally different to what we had had last time we came in.It's a shame as we were really looking forward to a meal out but we left feeling we should have stayed at home and cooked. Not sure if a Gastropub in a small village is what we need, bring back homemade soup, pies, casseroles and curries for the winter.

Having lived in Cornwall now for nearly twenty years and finding myself only able to recommend the odd pasty shop or fish and chip at last I can recommend a quality establishment having visited for a Sunday lunch. Quality well cooked meats with excellent cooked vegetables and trimmings followed by fantastic sweets at very fair prices. Please do not worry about previous comments about the toilets as I am sure these will be upgraded as soon as possible. To Camborne and the local area folk .....I say .......use it or you will lose it.

I took my wife and six of our friends to celebrate her birthday. The food could not be faulted. Once ordered, it arrived in reasonable time and was certainly all freshly prepared. It was very tasty, with excellent presentation. The price of the drinks surprised me - over £7 for a half pint of bitter and a glass of wine. The really bad bit was the condition of the gents toilet. If you've ever used a Singapore street toilet in the 1960's you'll have some idea; it was very similar, the smell of stale urine was not nice at all and I certainly wasn't the only one to comment upon it. I've never experienced another toilet anything like as bad in this country.Would we go again? Probably - my wife said she'd definitely go again - but I won't be in any hurry unless or until that toilet gets a serious makeover with some decent stainless steel furniture instead of whitewashed urinal walls that have turned to shades of green and brown. The smell is still in my nostrils.

We recently went to the Pendarves Inn after reading about it on Tripadvisor, although we didn't book we got a table in the bar rather than the restaurant side. The meal was OK but not as good as we expected from the rave reviews we had read. The presentation was nothing special and the prices were quite high. Maybe the Sunday Roast is better value.

Eaten here a few times Lunch, Dinner, Sunday roast & never disappointed! Most recently was the Smoked topside Sunday roast....Amazing! I can't understand the negative reviews, the prices are reasonable (if you want cheap mass produced go to Weatherspoons), the ingredients are obviously well sourced & the food cooked & presented to perfection. Yes the decor is a little dated but who cares, it's cosy & welcoming the sort of pub you can visit to eat & chill for a couple in the bar after. Landlord & landlady are lovely, just wish lived nearer so could eat here more often! Great Job guys, keep doing what your doing!

We dined here after hearing good things & weren't disappointed! The food & service were fabulous. It wasn't overly busy while we were there but we did book for 6pm as we took the children too. The staff were friendly & helpful without being intrusive, they were knowledgeable about the menu and helped us to make informed choices. The food was of a high standard and hot when it arrived. My husband had the veal, which was a little over cooked & I had the steak burger which I felt was a bit rarer than the medium I requested but the tastes were wonderful. We all cleared our plates & enthusiastically ordered pudding. The fruit crumble and custard my daughter chose was really flavourful & I really enjoyed the homemade brownie with clotted cream. My husband felt the chocolate fudge cake he had was a generic 'bought in' one which was disappointing after the high standard & freshness of the other items.Overall we thoroughly enjoyed it and plan to return soon. There was a good selection of drinks available and we were offered speciality coffees after our meal but needed to leave to take the children home by then.If we had to offer points to improve it would be the lighting in the bar area as it was rather dark, although the restaurant was better lit, and, in my opinion, the ladies toilets are in desperate need of attention.

We called in late on a sat afternoon in the off chance they were still serving food. We ordered a chicken dish and pudding and it was delicious and very well presented, we would eat here again and again! My only criticism is the pub was empty apart from us, so there was no atmosphere. The service was good and no complaints really, would recommend it .

I felt it over priced with nearly all meals £13-15not the £7-13 as talked about on trip advisor. It was a experience in the poor We shall never go there again.rod and jan

We moved into the village 2 years ago and only ever went to the pub in Gwinear, as the Pendarves always looked a bit tired and run down. Once it was taken over by the new owners we ventured up for a drink and ended up staying for dinner. I can honestly say the food is absolutely delicious - one of the best steak dinners I've ever had. We've since been in several times for dinner and every meal I've had has been just lovely. The beer garden has also been a lovely addition this summer. The owners are really warm and welcoming, and all the locals sat at the bar are chatty and friendly. Some other reviewers have commented on the decor, and yes it is a little different to other pubs, but for me that only adds to the charm of the place. After all, this is Cornwall and we tend to love our quirky little pubs and buildings! This is a little gem of a pub with really delicious food.

We recently moved into a neighbouring village just 5 minutes away, so needed to find a local pub. We've now been to the Pendarves Inn for two evening meals over the summer. We went again for the Lobster and Cider event which was lovely. I also liked the way you could also choose from the normal menu, so for me I could pick lobster but others could have their favourites.I really enjoyed the food, the Lobster Surf and Turf was lovely and the local Cornish Cider went really well with it. I only goto pubs when eating but like to stay for a drink after in the bar area, its all very comfortable and we had young children with us. We were still made welcome by the staff. Only downside is I think some of the "locals" in for a drink believed we were "tourists" and our keen ears did pickup a few jokes about tourist's. For example they had seating below the dart board and our children were on it playing with their iPads, and I heard someone say "we could still play, they are only tourists". I actually heard someone else say to his friend "are they local" which reminded me of the League of Gentlemen!!As I was born in Camborne and still live in Barripper which is the next village which is officially still Camborne, I found it quite funny. But I think if I were a tourist maybe I would taken offence. Its a great local pub and the staff more than make you feel welcome.

Four of us booked for a Friday evening, which happened to coincide with a “Cyder and Lobster Event”, so we had the advantage of being able to choose from a menu that included many lobster and crab dishes. As far as I am concerned as a diner, what is important to me is the quality of the ingredients, the way it’s cooked, how it’s presented, the service and the price. The Pendarves Inn wins on all accounts. I’m not too worried about décor and ambience when eating out at gastro pubs; it’s not what I’m looking for.We had booked for 7:30 and shown to our table promptly our starters arrived without any undue delay and looked and tasted great. My lobster and crab cocktail was delicious. The main courses were served again within a reasonable time and were attractively plated and tasted just as good as they looked. The service was polite and attentive but not overbearing. Portion size was towards the generous but not of the “buy em cheap and pile em high” brigade. The guest “cyders” were a nice touch and went with the meal well. We had a very enjoyable meal at a reasonable cost. I would not hesitate in visiting again or recommending this venue to anyone else. We had driven the best part of 30 miles each way and it was well worth it.

I have eaten here many times though it is not my local pub as I live in the next Parish but the Pendarves Inn is well worth the extra miles. A business meeting ran over and my colleague from Dorset had his children with him so I rang and booked a table at 5.50, we were immediately accommodated, the children had the most fabulous burgers and rolls from their Farm Shack menu, Allen amazed us with gorgeous milk shakes made to order while we waited and read the evening menu; yet again everything was faultless and value for money is unbeatable. The food was so freshly cooked and with individual attention, the children loved the presentation and my guests left wanting to book our next business meeting to coincide with an evening meal at the Pendarves -- I am informed a charcoal grill is now installed and the steaks are even better (if that were possible) than before.

There are few times I study a menu and can say that I would be happy with anything from the selection. So the choice was even more difficult, but the table next to us had the ribs delivered and decision was made..... We all had the ribs, and we were not disappointed. They came in 2 sizes, big and bigger it seemed. We went for the smaller option which was plenty. For starters, the garlic mushrooms went down really well, as did the Berry Fool desert. There was a good selection of local beers on tap so we were happy! The staff were really welcoming and attentive. We can highly recommend the Pendarves Inn.

Honestly, one of the best meals I've ever had.I arrived late on a Saturday evening with my parents and partner who'd come to pick me up from university for the Easter holidays. We were happily accommodated despite it being quite late.It is essentially a pub with seating for meals. The bar area was very busy, but not at all rowdy or loud, the chat and laughter of the locals really added to the atmosphere. The menu has a great choice of meals, with a pub menu available also. The food was incredible, between us we had the pan-fried chicken on garlic mash, pad Thai, and gammon and chips from the pub menu. The pan-fried chicken was the tastiest meal I've ever had. Everything was perfectly cooked and seasoned, and so so moreish! My father had the pad Thai and said the flavours were amazing. My partner had the gammon, and though he said it was a simple dish, it was the nicest gammon he's had; it was caramelised in pineapple juice and had no fat at all on it.During our meal, some sort of male voice choir had come into the pub and were singing songs in the bar area, this really added to the already great atmosphere, and my parents thoroughly enjoyed hearing the old songs during our meal.I cannot rave enough about this place, it seems a shame that it's so tucked away from the usual tourist areas as the food is amazing. We will definitely navigate the country lanes to find this place again, much recommended.

We didn't know the Pendarves Inn so decided to call in and check it out. We were warmly welcomed by Justin and enjoyed a drink while perusing the menus. We liked what we saw and booked for the following evening. It was the start of the bank holiday weekend and the theme was Mexicon right over the bank holiday. We returned on Friday evening to be welcomed by Justin like old friends. He remembered the wine I liked and we were quickly shown to our table. I couldn't resist the Mexican chilli which I was assured was spicy. It was so beautifully served. Not just rice and mince slung on a plate. The rice was a perfect mound, nicely garnished. The chilli was tongue tinglingly good. The sour cream and nachos the perfect accompaniment. I'm assured the steak that was ordered was cooked to perfection and the quality perfect. It was declared quite beautiful. The service was with a smile. The welcome could not have been better. We will definately return. Thank you so much to Justin and all at The Pendarves Inn.

We went for a meal on Easter Sunday evening. The good bits:-The staff here are lovely, friendly and very attentive. The pub looks great from the outside and is in a lovely rural area. The puddings , brownie and the bread pudding tasted great, and looked professional like the on line photos. In contrast , The not so good bits:- the interior is 1960s or 1970s pub fairly empty and needs some £ spent on it. The roast beef was ok, but the roast pots, and veg were soggy and bland. The gravy was described by my companion as foul. I had the prawn pad Thai, which was not good. It contained some giant prawns buried in it( where they should have remained RIP). This place is on a journey upwards I'm sure, but absolutely no way does it deserve to be no1 out of 33 in the area. I can't understand it? We wouldn't go back unless we'd left something behind.

This place is a real find and definitely serves a much more varied and ambitious menu than you normally find in a pub. The food is of a very high quality and clearly comprised of fresh and local produce. The Pad Thai dish was deliciously spicy and clearly made by someone who is well versed in this type of cooking, yet the steak was equally well cooked and presented. The prices are excellent value for money, the staff and indeed the locals were all really friendly and this place is a notch above the competition locally. A must visit destination if you are in the area.

We had prawns for starters, very generous helping cooked perfectly with peppers and garlic. Then a Thai hake curry, which was delicate, fully flavoured and the fish very fresh. The spices were balanced just right. Again a generous helping and perfectly presented and cooked. The Belgian chocolate ice cream that followed was also delicious. All served by a friendly staff, in a well spaced restaurant. A real gem tucked away in Carnell Green, and well worth a visit.Only issue was lack of a clear legible menu with everything on it, even a small plain typed one would have been very welcome, instead of the elaborate hard to read one with the verbal specials. With food like that it needs no elaboration!

Booked in for Sunday lunch on the basis of reviews, and my heart sank when we arrived at 2:00 pm. Empty car park and almost empty pub, we were the only people eating. I really thought I had bought a lemon. We had the Sunday roast and it was really excellent. Restaurant food it was not, but it was a very good imitation of honest home-cooked Sunday lunch. Everything was nicely cooked and the portions were generous whilst the prices were remarkably cheap.Overall, this is not a 'special occasion' place (although it will probably improve as the season goes on and a few more people turn up), but is is good food at very good prices.
