Cove24 in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

So I’m a bit late to the party with the review but as me and my partner are sat in a pub discussing good places to eat I suddenly remembered I never wrote my review We booked in February for my O/H birthday (myself, him and our 4 y/o son) as we’ve eaten here before and it was amazing however upon informing a couple of people we were visiting here for a birthday meal they said oh god no avoid avoid avoid. We decided to take our chances and my goodness I’m so pleased we did - Aaron the guy currently managing the place is amazing and could not be any more hospitable. The service was superb and the food was fab. I really could not recommend to friends and family enough and we can’t wait to come back soon. Thank you for a lovely evening and making the birthday amazing.

Excellent service as soon as we walked in the door. Food was lovely, steaks cooked to perfection. Whoever the twins are behind the bar they need a pay rise as they didn’t stop all the time we were there.

We visited cove 24 Saturday night- it looks so beautiful from the outside -lovely atmosphere and very welcoming staff. We were served promptly and we had a small plate each as a starter - I had the crab and it was delicious and very tasty my husband had the meatballs who claimed they very good. We both had fish and chips for mains. All the staff were excellent and we had a brilliant evening we will be back when we are next in town

Arranged a table for my parents for their anniversary at Cove24 the Manager (Aaran) could not be more facilitating and helpful to ensure my parents had a special evening. Nothing was too much trouble even offering suggestions and giving options of where they could be sat. Exceptional service can not rate this restaurant highly enough thank you.

We only had a drink . Sat at the bar , seemed to be run by kids all very chaotic nobody seemed to be in charge .

The place is not a restaurant nor is it a tapas bar it’s just not what I expected or worth the money!!! Went for partners birthday meal as the menu really appeals but it says nothing about it’s a tapas kind of menu!!! £12 for a handful of meat then overpriced chicken which is dry and not at all tasty a lamb dish which would not fill a child. Overall a bad experience and would not recommend to anyone!!! Will be going for a kebab later as not enough food to fill even though the bill was £60 with the over cooked chicken removed!!!!

Great looking venue, vibrant loud atmosphere at the bar, but food is very average, dry chicken, soggy crispy cod, prawns were ok.

The staff were really lovely and friendly but the food was Poor. We were served lovely local Cornish crab smothered in aioli. So perhaps the aioli should go on the side as I could not taste the crab? The seafood paella was lacking in seafood and overwhelmed with tomato. The wine was poor quality too. Sorry will not return here.

Had a really good Sunday roast here. Attentive service, relaxed atmosphere, good food. Couldn't really ask for more.

he food was amazing, the linguine was really tasty and the small plates were excellent. The drinks as well were very good. Would definitely recommend the crab as a small plate. We thought the food and drinks were very reasonably priced. Reason for only 3 stars is due to the service. Staff seemed unprofessional, Wine placed on table but not opened or poured for us, main course took 45 mins to arrive and we had to ask the staff to come and take our drinks and dessert order. Staff were obviously quite busy rushing around everywhere, but the restaurant wasn’t at capacity so maybe it was just a staffing issue? We also heard the staff moaning to each other that the table next to us hadn’t left a tip which we thought was pretty unprofessional.

5 of us went for roast today really enjoyed definitely recommend staff absolute amazing 5 star service.

Very disappointed. We were very rushed to order our food. The waitress came 3 times in 10 minutes. 3 meals/ 3 drinks £96.00 I dont mind paying a lot for good food . This was not good food £28 for steak that was tough. A burnt burger and a small paella which we were told was small so we would need to order somthing to go with it!! There is a charge for still water on the table.

We really asked a lot of the staff at cove, decorating the table and bringing out our own 'cake' for dessert, they really were amazing, kind and friendly! The food was delicious and really filling. Good wine selection as well. We will be back!!

We had a lovely dinner - decided on the small plates/tapas option and chose six plates which turned out was just right for us (we l had focaccia to keep us occupied whilst everything was freshly cooked). Great ingredients and even better dishes..all were perfect and flavourful. Highly recommend the squid, chicken skewers and Cornish yarg croquettes. Even though September and mid week the venue did fill up. I am advised the cocktails were great too!

What a nice surprise! Absolutely fantastic tapas. A thoughtful wine list. The prawns were humungous and juicy. My waitress, Millie, was super helpful and friendly. She recommended the crab, which was both locally sourced and lovely and tasty. The real star of the show was the yarg (local Cornish cheese) croquettes, delicious garlicky balls of goodness.

On first arrival the restaurant is great nice decor, friendly staff and great hit with the teenagers we get a booth. We were even told that there was a back log in the kitchen by half an hour ok no problem. However to have to wait 20 mins (we arrived just before 8) it was now nearly 8:25 just to get some water wasn’t great - the staff were lovely and apologetic fair enough, our food order was finally taken by 8:30. Now in our heads that’s the half hour back log clearing up? No more mention of timings and no further site of any staff until we find them and ask where our food is 40 mins later - apparently waiting for chicken everything else is ready and being plated. Bearing in mind this is predominantly a tapas restaurant - the norm is to bring tapas as and when it’s ready. The food finally arrived a further 10 minutes later (the length of time it takes to cook a chicken skewer?). It was good, large portions, but nothing exceptional . The staff were apologetic and friendly. It just felt they were young and lacking experience of how to manage tables and the kitchen effectively- won’t be recommending there are better options in Newquay.

Bit disappointed this time, the paella like other comments is not great and had 3 prawns in.... we did feed this back Crab was tasty Garlic Prawn dish would not rate Mussel linguine was good but needed something for the sauce, it didn't have much depth for a seafood dish We waited a really long time for the food and nothing was said- didn't bother staying for dessert which is a shame as it could have been better Cocktails are nice as is the venue itself.

We Spent a couple of relaxing hours here yesterday, great chilled atmosphere, very clean & well presented. Cocktails on offer 2 for £15 🤪👌 plus a large selection of spirits & Gins etc, only a small selection of draught beers. First red flag should have been that it was the only place able to take a walk in on a Saturday. To start with the wine was awful and £30ish - couldn't finish the wine it tasted so bad, from the outside it seemed like the sort of restaurant that would have let you taste the wine first (if we had we'd have sent it back). To get onto the food: we ordered the cured meats (around £8.50-£9) which came out as a few slices of salami from a packet folded in half and chucked on a plate, would have thought it to be a bit dressed up with some garnish at least for that price. The paella was definitely overpriced for the portion size, especially as at the speed it came out and the texture etc it had obviously been microwaved. The "catch of the day" was a mussel linguine (?) Which was okay but bit poor on the amount of mussels (Which are also out of season). Service: the waitress was nice however her uniform was incredibly dirty, and she saw us accidentally knock over a full glass of wine and instead of bringing over a cloth to help clear it up just ignored us. After a few minutes of being ignored I went up to the bar to get a cloth, I continued to be ignored and then the fire alarm started going off which is no one's fault but none of the staff really did anything. The kitchen staff kept on yelling "service" which was a bit on the annoying front. The menu was a bit small and disappointing. The building itself was nice - nice toilets and a good location. We came here for our final evening vacation dinner and ordered the burrata with pesto and flatbread. Pesto was not pesto, it was tasteless and lacked some ingredients (Garlic? Parmagiano?). Afterwards we ordered paella and cauliflower. The paella was not paella, just paellarice with tomatosauce. The cauliflower was overcooked and tasteless... Would not recommend this place, looks nice, but ended up getting some fastfood afterwards.

We check the dinner timetable that says up to 9pm. We arrived at 8:50pm and even having half of the tables available they didn't let us to have a dinner in the restaurant.

Can absolutely recommend this place!! The staff were so SO lovely! They genuinely seemed very happy, every single one of them! Food was amazing and good prices!! Drinks were beautiful and served quick! We were there till 11pm and they weren’t trying to kick us out at all (even though we should have been out). One of the gentleman closing up tried for a while to call us a taxi as aswell! They were so nice! ❤️

When the food came out it was definitely not worth the wait. It was bland and I didn’t even eat mine. The bill was £55 for two dishes, my partner didn’t even get a drink he had water. I definitely don’t recommend it’s very basic food and you can get better for the money.

I and my friend went for a birthday meal on Saturday and I was left pretty disappointed. We ordered the chicken skewers with soy and maple glaze. We payed £25.50 for 6 very plain and tasteless chicken. There was no flavour or colour at all on the actual chicken and the “glaze” was so watery it was hard to actually dip the chicken into. I have never sent food back to the kitchen before, but I felt like I had too in this case. Our waitress was so lovely and apologetic about it but when I looked over to the kitchen I saw the chef just throw a bit of salt and pepper on the chicken in disgust and walk away. I don’t expect this from an “award winning” restaurant and will not be returning.

The food itself was divine - some of the nicest cod I’ve ever eaten, and my partner was very chuffed with his paella. Portion sizes were very generous! Not one complaint to be made! I have to add a special note at the end, acknowledging the incredible service we received. Ciara (Kiara?) served our table, and just had the most infectious energy about her. She was so bubbly, friendly, and helpful. I’d eat here again even if the food was poor just to receive the same level of service!! She is a real credit to the Cove team! We had dinner for myself my wife and teenage daughter. The food was excellent and the attention to detail and friendly chef made all the difference. We ordered 10 dishes so this gave us a good representation of the menu. Out of all the dishes the only one we had issues with was the white crab as it had some orange piff which made it a little bitter. We did mention it to the waitress and it was removed from our bill. Okaaaay... Expectations were high, delivery was mediocre. This is surprising considering its location and decor. Edit: Following our experience the next morning we received a phone call with apologies, to explain their situation and was offered a complimentary voucher to return. This was hugely appreciated as we were their for a 40th birthday. This gesture totally changed our opinion of the restaurant and look forward to returning. Thank you ….. Poor service from the moment we walked in. Our table (booked for 8:45pm) wasn’t ready. It took 20 minutes to order drinks and eventually when getting the menus they took our order. 90 minutes later we had still not received our food. Our food went to another table and only then did the staff seem to be aware. We ended up leaving as it kind of killed the mood! Shame as it was a lovely restaurant but wouldn’t go back. Front of house were not in control at all and they were very short staffed.

My partner and I celebrated our 2022 Christmas Day with Cove 24. From the moment we walked through the door we were greeted with happy and professional staff, full of Christmas spirit. The food was amazing and there was so much! One of the highlights was listening to a live singer which was completely unexpected but really gave our Christmas meal that extra festive feel. It was our first time visiting Cove 24 but we will definitely book there again the next time we stay in Newquay. Thank you Cove 24.

First we ordered drinks; gin and beer options were great, however no cider available or sauvignon blanc wine, which for what would have been a busy night anticipated far in advance, was surprising. Service was a little slow which we expected. The set menu was very limited and nothing special with 4 options including fish and chips and a burger which we weren't expecting for a special evening. We would have preferred the normal menu options. Having said that, the starters were fantastic and fresh bread tasted amazing. Mackerel main was equally fantastic. The burgers looked better than they tasted and the chips were way over cooked. Overall the service from our waitress was great, she was friendly and attentive. We left straight after the food and only 1 drink, purely because the seating arrangement was so uncomfortable. Typically, we would have stayed for at least 1 or 2 more drinks and dessert but we just couldn't stand it any longer. Overall the food was OK. Individual service was great but table seating and general organisation in terms of menu and drink options and stock were disappointing and need improving for us to consider returning again.

My wife and I were traveling during the US’s Thanksgiving and happened upon Cove24 on their reopening party. The sous chef realized we were from out of town (obviously) and proceeded to allow us to stay a partake in the evening. The Staff were all super nice and made our Thanksgiving truly amazing. We had fabulous Champagne and wine with a delicious meal. The Pie was one of the best things I ate during our trip and definitely plan to revisit Newquay just to eat at Cove24 again. Such a lovely place. Food is amazing. I had the chicken supreme, boyfriend had the seafood linguine. Portions are so generous that we were sadly too full for dessert. The staff are also so friendly and lovely. 100% would recommend. Only suggestion for future would be to allow us to tip by card as we don't usually carry cash!

We have just had a fantastic night at Cove24. The food was absolutely unreal. All of the seafood tasted fresh, and the sauce was one of the tastiest i’ve ever had. The service amazing, the food amazing, the vibe amazing, highly recommend. Its now officially my favourite restaurant in Newquay. We will definitely be back
