What a beautiful, stunning location. We took our two small grandchildren for a walk, I must say we didn't get far. After we literally dragged them from the play area and feeding the ducks we eventually made it onto the path to start our walk. We made it as far as the stream with the bridge over it. Spent a good half an hour there then turned back!!!.. I would love to eventually walk all the way around. The only issue I had with walking there was how many people were walking their dogs without being on a lead. There are notices all around the reservoir to keep all dogs on a lead. Having a small granddaughter who's not very comfortable around other dogs it was a little bit annoying that we had to keep picking her up out of the way. Other than that I would highly recommend a visit.

We found this place when once camping in leek we live one and a half hour away and like to drive up to spend the day here with our children. The restaurant is great although I did read a polite notice that had been up that they are closed for the next 6 to 8 weeks I believe. The surroundings are still worth visiting for. There are great nature walks surrounding, a park and also a hide out for nature watching. This place is great for the whole family. The nature walk has activities to do as you follow the paths. There are a number of public toilets very accessible to everyone and also hydration stations for everyone including pets.

Went to the park this morning with my children, waited for the kiosk to open so they could have ice cream. It was late to open so we went into the visitors centre. My 6 year old daughter order an ice cream but it wasn’t placed on the cone well enough so it immediately hit the floor, the lady serving said she would get that, picked it up and threw it away and went on to serve the next person leaving a young girl without an ice cream she hadn’t even tasted. £3.10 wasted

Curiously, this review has been requested after I stopped for a coffee after a walk around the reservoir ... which Google does not seem to acknowledge or be interested in! On the visitors centre, including toilets and gift shop: # Coffee (and tea) were fine; good selection of cakes / sweet treats(!) and hot meals available. Not cheap but not outrageous. Cheerful and friendly staff. # Very clean - and sustainable / energy efficient - toilets (only used M!) Lights only turn on when visitor is present; water dispensed from timer taps. Waste disposed directly into the nearest beach resort.

Didn't have a good first experience. Parking charges are a little steep which is an off-put considering there isn't much to do here.. bit boring. Takeaway food wasn't very nice either, £3.30 for a sausage bap that wasn't even average. A tiny bit of butter and 1½ sausages. Wouldn't of minded if there was an effort put into the food or at-least decent food produce used. Lady on the counter had a attitude too, not very friendly at all. She didn't seem to like children either. Avoid.

We've been several times, and really enjoyed the food. Unfortunately today the quality plummeted. 2 of us had tuna melt paninis which are normally really good. However they had obviously not been made to order as they arrived within a couple of minutes. They were not moist contained little tuna, and the underside was hard. 2 had cheese and ham sandwiches which weren't as good as normal. The tea wasn't hot enough and was weak. They need to get their act together or will start losing customers.

Yesterday was my first visit - I was blown away by the whole overall experience! The setting was lovely - walking through the cute gift shop (which we made multiple purchases from after breakfast - as they had lots that caught our eye and very well priced) When we reached the Restaurant, we were greeted with a friendly smile and a polite waitress who showed us to a lovely table, with stunning views and we were clearly told how it worked - you order at the counter when you’re ready (I hate it when you go to places and don’t know the system). I went to order and they were very accommodating with the tweaks I wished to make to our order to suit our requirements. It was early so quiet, but service was quick and efficient. The lady even made polite conversation and was interested in our plans, which made the experience feel more personal. They had plenty of options and very well priced. The Oatcake was delicious - the best I’ve ever had! 10/10! Throughout our time enjoying our breakfast we noticed how accommodating the staff were to all customers (taking group photo’s, giving options on seating locations to suit best the party size and even noticing a family arrive outside and going out to greet them and sort seating for the children, again so efficiently). We asked for directions from the gift shop and the lady there was very helpful and informative aswell as assisting us in our purchases when we needed help getting the picture off the wall. The toilets were also clean & nice to use. The whole experience was superb and all the staff were absolutely wonderful! Thank you for starting our day so well! Can’t wait to visit again!

Parking is expensive and there are no discounts/exemptions for those with blue badges (one of the reasons for being eligible for a blue badge is a disability affecting someone's use of parking meters, it would be discrimination to fine these people for not paying for parking).

You need to pay for parking £3.00 for 2 hours or £5.00 for all day park, the machines take both cash or cards. The are walking paths, one is 1 mile and the other path is 4.3 miles around the reservoir. We chose to walk around the reservoir, some steep and uneven terrain. Some stunning view of the countryside and The Peak District (I think). Today, of all days... it snowed, thanks to the tail end of Storm Ciara. After our walk around the reservoir, we dived straight into the Visitor Centre for some warmth and a bit of food but unfortunately their power was off and only half of the building was illuminated. We still managed to get a nice hot pot of tea and some hot food, the staff worked tirelessly to keep the restaurant going with limited access to power. The weather got worse, the snow kept coming down, thick and fast, the manager had no choice to close the restaurant before the untreated roads were impossible to drive home. I would like to come again when the weather is a little warmer and see some of the wildlife around the reservoir.

Would put 1/2 star if I could. Don’t bother visiting the wheel. Staff were extremely rude. We booked a table that could accommodate a pram as we had a newborn baby. We parked on the lower car park, when we walked around the sign to advertise the food was put in the middle of the footpath, prams or wheelchairs could not get past. If I had been waking with the pram alone I would not have been able to get past, as it is up bank and the pram could have rolled into the road. I am disgusted that the venue did not think about others accessibility needs when putting the sign out. We arrived inside, table was not set for the pram, so we removed a chair and placed it on the table next to us where there was space. The barman then shouted across that we could not put the pram in place of the chair as it was “health and safety” which we understood but then explained that we had requested to be put on a table where a pram would fit. The barman told us “you will have to take the pram out and hold the baby”. We found this extremely rude and the whole party left the venue. Safe to say we will not be returning back in future.
