The view was incredible. We got to see the London Bridge open and close which was really cool to watch. The service was very good even though it took us over 2 hours to complete 5 courses. The food was average or less. I would not recommend the restaurant due to the fact that the food was not worth the price we paid per person which was 115 pounds.

We had a celebration dinner at the Ting restaurant after my graduation on 6th September. From booking to dinner, I had a special service. Unfortunately, I could not get the booking app to work, but the person I emailed was extremely kind to book on my behalf. In the restaurant, we had a special window seat with spectacular views over London and looking at the Tower Bridge. Our host, Rahul was very professional with extra care to my parents as it was their first time there. I was very grateful for all the tips on the menu and extra treats that we had. The seabass dish was perfection. Thank you for chocolates and congratulations at the end of our meal. Well done Rahul!!

We went for the set lunch and I really couldn’t fault anything. I recommend arriving a little early so you can sit in the lovely lobby and take in the views on the other side of the restaurant. The set menu was very reasonable at £64 for 3 courses, including a glass of wine. Monday lunchtime was reasonably quiet so most diners had a window seat. The food was served as small dishes, and was relaxed and leisurely. Including coffee, we were there for over 2 hours. Our server, Moussa, achieved the perfect combination of discrete and friendly. We will certainly be back.

Celebrating a birthday with afternoon tea at TING, located on the 35th floor of The Shard in London, is an experience that truly elevates the occasion—both literally and figuratively. From the moment you step into TING, you are greeted by a sophisticated ambiance that combines modern elegance with stunning views of the London skyline. As we settled into our table, the panoramic vistas provided a breathtaking backdrop, setting the tone for a memorable afternoon. The decor is stylish and contemporary, with floor-to-ceiling windows that allow natural light to flood the space, making it an ideal setting for a celebratory gathering. The attentive staff welcomed us warmly, ensuring we felt special right from the start. The afternoon tea menu at TING offers a delightful selection of both traditional and innovative treats. We began with an array of beautifully presented finger sandwiches, featuring classic fillings like smoked salmon and cucumber, each bite bursting with flavor. The sandwiches were followed by a selection of freshly baked scones, served warm with clotted cream and a choice of delectable preserves. The scones were light and flaky, a highlight of the experience. The pièce de résistance, of course, was the exquisite array of pastries and desserts. Each item was a work of art, showcasing a variety of flavors and textures. From delicate macarons to rich chocolate tarts, the presentation was impeccable, making it almost too beautiful to eat. Each bite was a celebration of taste, perfectly complementing the fine selection of teas available. Speaking of tea, TING offers an extensive tea menu that caters to all preferences. The staff were knowledgeable and eager to help us choose the perfect blends to accompany our treats. Their recommendations enhanced the experience, allowing us to explore a range of flavors that paired beautifully with the food. Throughout our time at TING, the service remained attentive without being intrusive. The staff made sure our glasses were filled, and they checked in regularly, adding to the personalized touch that made the birthday celebration feel truly special. In summary, afternoon tea at TING in The Shard is an unforgettable experience that combines exquisite culinary offerings with spectacular views of London. It’s the perfect way to celebrate a special occasion, creating lasting memories in a stunning setting. If you’re looking for a luxurious and memorable afternoon tea experience, TING is undoubtedly a top choice that will leave you feeling pampered and delighted.

We went for afternoon tea and were sat in a corner with an excellent view. We’d arranged previously for one of us (myself) to have a gluten free tea, and they accommodated this, however the food really bad. I have had delicious gluten free teas in London before, but this one really missed the mark. All of the the gluten free food (except the sandwiches) was also regretfully vegan, which I didnt know until I started eating. They even brought me vegan clotted cream which tasted like harden coconut oil. We received great service from everyone except our server who didn’t explain how the tea worked, or what things were as she brought them, and was quite slow and unfriendly. Bad day, perhaps. Our scones took a very long time - and mine were not scones - just rock hard muffins. The actual teas were lovely, and again so was the view. Overall though, the value for the money was extremely disappointing. The only thing I enjoyed was the two-bite carrot cake. I will say that when I politely offered feedback, they gave me a small discount of £11, but with the water (no alcohol) my bill still came to £87. I would love to have that and my time back.

The views here are UNMATCHED. So beautiful and perfect during sunset. But man I have to admit, this restaurant as far and food quality failed miserably. Truly saddened that our last meal in London was not a tasty one. Very overpriced meals and underwhelming flavor. And I honestly don’t care if places don’t offer birthday desserts, but the currant jelly that was offered was sadly not very pleasant. But man the best place to see the city of London!

The food and service at Ting is brilliant. We visited for a special occasion and Chris took care of us. He provided a brilliant service from start to finish! The food was very nice, especially the beef tataki! And the views were amazing. We had a window seat and the whole evening was excellent and without any faults. We went for the 3 course meal and everything was nice and cooked perfectly. They also have non alcoholic rose which tasted good!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Fantastic views and surroundings. Definitely great for a treat but disappointing overall; the food itself should be much better (the sauce underneath the cod was way too salty). I've certainly eaten better Oriental fare at Wagamama's and other Michelin-starred restaurants.

Second-class service for my afternoon tea. Here are the pros: The complimentary peach & mint drink was wonderful. The egg and truffle sandwich was great, so I asked for some more. The view was stunning. I’m not good with heights, but I was still impressed. And now for the numerous Cons: As the only Black person in the space, I was worried about what kind of service I would get. And I was right to be worried. I was “forgotten” about several times by the wait staff. This kind of racist behaviour was so disappointing. I got to my table just before 1pm. A couple who arrived some time after me were served first. When the waiter saw me looking at them, he said I would get my meal soon, but I finally got food 30 minutes after I arrived. There was a musician and singer setting up a few inches away from me, but thankfully the music wasn’t loud. It was pretty strange that they were so close that the singer’s hips almost brushed the side of my head! In 2024, it is not right that Black customers are treated like this. I paid the same as everyone else there, but I was treated like a second-class person. This was supposed to be a treat, but I regret ever going there.

We came here for afternoon tea. The food is ok. The presentation is good and the dry ice for the shard patisserie is showy. The main reason to come is the view and that is not guaranteed. I’ve added a photo so you can see what it’s really like if you don’t get a window seat, which we did not. Without the view then it’s an ok afternoon tea for £78.

We recently visited Shangri La Ting for afternoon tea. The food was delicious, and the variety of teas offered was impressive. However, I believe there's room for improvement in their service. The waitress seemed quite unhappy and was often angry, which affected the overall experience. Additionally, the food was served late, which was disappointing. If they can upgrade their service quality, it would make the visit much more enjoyable. For now, it's a place with great food but needs better customer service. The service doesn’t meet the expectations of a top world hotel; at all!

Solid 4 stars. Food is okay. Scones were a bit dry. “The Shard” dessert was a bit grainy in texture. All the rest were good though. Service could be better. I have to ask for certain items twice due to slow service. I asked for a refill of peach puree which never came. There’s so many to choose from and I ended up forgetting about that peach puree. My daughter requested for hot chocolate and we didn’t get it until the end when we already paid and signed the bill. My daughter actually forgot that she ordered the choco because she was already full but that’s beside the point. One should expect better service when you pay for so much. The view/atmosphere is definitely a 5/5.

Ting is a fine dining restaurant located on the 35th Floor of the Shard building, adjacent to London Bridge station. We were greeted at the ground floor entrance and shown to the private lift which travelled directly to the 35th Floor. We were then politely escorted to our secluded table with a wonderful view over the East end of London, despite the rainy day outside. We were more than happy with this view, with the busy multi-lined railway below appearing as a giant Hornby or Triang railway set, for those old enough to remember such things :) Our first impression of the restaurant was that of space and height. It’s very open and, as a result, lacks a little in atmosphere. We had been gifted a 3-course lunch experience, so the menu had a limited choice. The menu could have been upgraded, but we were happy to choose from the lunch menu as there were dishes that we would have chosen from a broader menu. While awaiting our first course we were given home-baked sour dough rolls and anchovy butter, very tasty. To start, we both had the cured Scottish salmon, which was delicious, if extremely small. For our mains we both chose the organic stuffed chicken served with wild mushrooms, roast potatoes and sour cream, with sides of rice and broccoli. It was good, but not perfect. The chicken was slightly overcooked and had started to dry. Flavours were great. For dessert my wife chose the Soba-Chocolate dish which I tasted and found to be overwhelmingly rich. It definitely required some relief, fresh cream or homemade ice cream would have done the trick. The strawberry dish however was outstanding! Under the perfectly cut fresh, sweet strawberries you see in the photo is a crispy crumb base, topped with marinaded strawberries and that's a strawberry mouse around surrounding the fruit. They are baby white meringues atop the dish. Flavours were perfectly balanced, I loved it. Service was very good, attentive without being intrusive. The maître d'hôtel was continually checking on the quality of service. Drinks were expensive, but typical of such an establishment. Overall a 4 star experience judged on this price bracket and location.

We booked for afternoon tea at 12.30pm (opening time) on a Sunday. We arrived early at 12.15pm and were asked to wait in the foyer till they opened at 12.30pm. The foyer is really nice and has some seats. It's worth arriving a bit early to look at the views. Even the toilets have a lovely view! After we noticed others being seated, we go up to go in. It would have been a nice touch if someone had come to the foyer and said they were ready for us as this is a fine dining restaurant. We were placed at a table where all the blinds were down. Since people come here for the view I'm not sure why they were still down. It wasn't sunny that day at all. We asked if we could be moved to a table where the blinds were up and they did move us to a nicer table which was appreciated. If you can get a table on the NW side of the restaurant (left side of the restaurant as you walk up to it) you'll have the best views because you'll be able to see London Bridge, St Paul's, the walkie talkie etc. The NW side has Tower Bridge and East views and you can see the London Bridge train station below. We ordered our teas and then waited and waited and waited. Other tables who arrived after us were being served tea and also the afternoon tea trays. We queried the timings with our server and eventually about 50 minutes after being sat down we got our teas (one of the teas was the wrong one), and then 5 minutes later our food. Not sure exactly what happened but the staff seemed pretty rushed for most of the time we were there. The tea was nice but after having 1 cup the pot water had gone cold (to be fair this is a common occurrence with most tea pots in the UK). So I kept re-ordering pots after just 1 cup which felt wasteful. The staff kept trying to pour our tea as soon as it arrived without asking if we'd like them to pour it. I prefer a stronger brew so I think they should be trained to just ask first before pouring. Sandwiches were nice but nothing special, they could have done with being a bit more full contents-wise for more flavour. The sweet treats were delicious but all of them were on the same base biscuit which felt a bit same-same once you'd had all 3. They were beautifully decorated and made for a gorgeous photo though. The 'shard' dessert was so much fun when it was presented. And our server offered to take our photo at this point which was nice of her. Didn't love the flavour of it, it was a bit too much cream and chocolate and not enough cake for me. The savoury pea bun was weird. It's just mushy peas in a tiny bread bun. It was kinda bad. The veggie roll was tasty. The scones were brought out last and they were DIVINE. Whoever did these, well done! They were the highlight of the meal. Also the blackberry jam was perfect. I'd actually recommend asking for your scones to come out at the same time as the other food because by the time they come out last, you're pretty full already. The amount of food was great and we were offered additionally sandwiches but didn't need them. As far as decor goes, TING is a bit basic so don't come expecting beautiful tea cups and gorgeous plates. I think it's worth doing once just for the views. I think next time we'd probably try the other afternoon tea place in the Shard for a different experience. The staff were all nice despite the long waiting time. And they knocked off service charge at the end (which is sort of funny because it's like saying sorry, we'll knock off the tip, but our table wasn't planning to tip anyway).

I'm based in London, and this would be the fourth or fifth time I've been to Ting. Three of us went. Total cost £1035. Unfortunately, it wasn't as good as previously, here's why: - They've since employed a lot of cheap 'external' labour. We couldn't understand what they were saying. Ting wants to present itself as a competing top restaurant with say a Michelin Star restaurant, and its prices reflect that. But at those restaurants, the waiters interact, know the food, explain it, and ensure you understand. In fact they try and improve your experience and make sure you remember them. But Ting's 'external labour' put the food on our table and walked off. No explanation, nothing. We were having the five course tasting menu. A few times we questioned our waiter as to what it was he was serving. He was short, with one or two words, and we couldn't understand him... and, well, as I said, maybe they get away with this because of the fame of the Shard and the views, but for prices matching Michelin Star, the staff they employed were not skilled and didn't want to be doing that particular job. I have nothing against them, it's just at £115 per head for the five course menu (excluding drinks), I had hoped to interact with the waiter, or at least have them explain what they were 'Dumping' on our table. Shame that when I asked for the wine pairing to go with their 5 course tasting menu there was none. I spoke with the sommelier, who went away, and came back saying that we could choose the 3 course standard menu where there is a wine pairing, or that she could pair wines for each course but at full price per glass per person. I explained that it was bizarre that they never had thought of a wine pairing for their flagship 5 course menu, and that typically wine pairings were 'discounted' so perhaps we could pay say £110 wine along with £115 food. Instead it felt like we had to offer an open cheque book to what was her 'full price' (unknown) cost per glass, and how could I agree to that without knowing what the costs will be? Hell, why was I even having to have this conversation and explain this to her, which was awkward, time consuming, and ended up being pointless. We ended up using the other second Sommelier more, who was nice and helpful, but still, having to choose each of our individual wine bottles because wine pairing was not on offer and something the first Sommelier couldn't sort out (jeez, if I was a Sommelier I'd be all over that and totally make it work. It's what you do, right?) It just wasn't the same as the 'old' Ting, the food service not being decent as described above, and no wine pairing, yet full price as if we went to a very good restaurant. I'd take the cheaper options here and soak up the view and leave. Don't spend lots of time and money here as you're not getting value, as Ting are too busy trying to save money, especially on their labour costs, but the cost to you is as great as Michelin Star. Instead go to a nice restaurant, sign up for the free Sky Garden visit, or visit Horizon 22 free, or The Lookout, free. Mix the two by visiting Ting and you'll be disappointed. DaveH. London City.

My friend booked us a table at Ting. We were offered the sharing menu which is priced at £98 per head. We had to request the a la carte menu, which seemed surprising that it was not offered alongside the sharing menu. Looking at the price of dishes, the sharing menu looked more economical for the 3 of us. The view was spectacular as expected in the Shard. The food is tasty and generously sized. However, the let down was the service, it took a long time between starter and the mains. There seemed to be a lack of staff despite being quite quiet on a Wednesday. I would say it is worth visiting for food but expect a long service.

The experience is a 5 stars, the view is absolutely mind-blowing. But the breakfast was a 2 stars - well too expensive for what we had and quality of the products: toasts (not even from the bakery), fruits salad, a yogurt with muesli aside and apart from the yogurt which I don't understand (why not making a yogurt bowl with muesli and fruits in it ?). The yogurt was too thick with no flavor, nothing on top. We had no pastries while it was included in the continental breakfast. And the orange juice was really sour, I doubt it was mixed from fresh oranges.

The only reason I’m giving this restaurant 5* is because of a waiter called Alex who was attending the restaurant on Saturday 29th. Thank you so much for making my sisters wedding day one to remember. It didn’t start off well however. My sister and her husband arrived from the town hall after getting married and was greeted by a female server (didn’t catch her name unfortunately) who was hostile and simply very rude. She didn’t pay them any attention, didn’t humour their requests and didn’t even greet herself to the guests. She nearly ruined their whole wedding day due to her abruptness and rudeness! (My sister was wearing a white dresss and her husband in a suit so it was clearly a special occasion). She shut them down when they asked if there were any other tables and despite mentioning they are happy to wait for a better table - she was not interested. Instead her husband saw a table free, and asked Alex for help. Alex went OUT of his way to stop what he was doing, help them secure the table and save their whole day with his kindness. He greeted himself politely, exchanged smile and jokes, even shared special marriage advice which made them smile and happy. Thank you Alex for saving their wedding day and making it one to remember. We wish you all the kindness, happiness and success. You will forever be remembered and hopefully promoted for being so special. Ask for Alex!

The waıtress who was describing the food at the afternoon tea wasn't sure about what she was reading and quickly read something and left. An eyelash came out of my sandwich and they asked us for an extra sandwich. We didn't want it either. The sandwiches were very simple... We asked for a new plate and they forgot to bring one. It took a long time to make eye contact with a waiter because no one was looking at us. As a pastry chef, I can say that the desserts didn't wow me, but they weren't bad. This was really disappointing. The staff and servers were very nice, and the view is amazing, but we ultimately pay for the food, and we were ok with that but it did not meet expectations. We went for afternoon tea, which is one of the most expensive options here. The savory bites included a salmon sandwich, but the cucumber in it was old and plasticky. The roast beef and egg sandwich was okay, and the chicken curry was good. Unfortunately, the sweets were not impressive and felt stale. While the tea was good and the smoke presentation was fun, and the scones were warm and fresh, I definitely would not recommend it for afternoon tea. We couldn’t finish half of our food, and considering the price, it’s a big no. For two person afternoon tea without champagne or anything more it was 188 pound!

Went to treat myself with a breakfast after my gym session, thought I would make it extra luxurious keeping in mind that this one would cost me about 40 pounds(!) However, the options were quite a dissapoinment. For starters, I wanted to have a trafitional Brittish breakfast, however that ”section” of the buffet was rather small compared to the middle eastern and Asian one. There was baba ganoush and lots of vegetables on the middle eastern section, and the asian one had chicken dumplings and miso soup among other things. One would think that the hotel primarily caters to people from these regions. I am not a fan of oriental food, but I dont eat pork, and that in itself limited my options when it came to meat. I was offered chicken sausages instead of pork sausages. The pancakes were as small as the palm of my hand and were coated with vanilla sugar. If you wanted ”real” pancakes, that would come with an additional cost of 20 pounds! The porage and youghurts were sweet. Not the best options for diabetics I would imagine. The bread options were limited, there was one loaf that I could spot. There were meat slices to the bread (chicken, turkey) Lots of less healthier options like croassaints muffins etc in excess. The tea you had to order and wait for, which was a bit annoying to me since I like to make my own tea. I would personally visit local cafeterias and save my money for something more priceworthy.

TING is inside a five star hotel. But their service at restaurant reception desk is really ONE STAR! Or even LESS. We booked afternoon tea 2 weeks ago. When I got there on time according to our reservation time, the whole restaurant was more than half empty. One of the girls at reception desk put us at the worst table in the whole restaurant. There is no view at all and close to the noisy hotel lobby. I then went back to the reception desk and politely requested to change a table has view or at least somewhere far from the hotel lobby. The same girl told us there is no other table available! I immediately pointed out a table which is available and can fit 4 persons (we are group of 4). She said that table is for SEVEN PEOPLE! And she can not give that table to us. I feel shocked and asked her how she can fit 7 persons at a table for 4! She said there is another 4 persons table next to the table can fit another 3! So her reason to refuse my request is 2 separate 4 persons tables, they can only give it to a group of 7 (I do not know who taught her math at school) and not to 2 groups of 4! Again, I am completely shocked by her explanation! This is the service we got at a very high end restaurant in a 5 star hotel! I was planning to have this afternoon tea with my family. It should be a wonderful experience. But after the girl gave me this rude and unacceptable reply. I completely lost my mood to enjoy this afternoon tea and my trust to the service from this restaurant. I decided to walk around by myself and try to find table for us at a more than half empty restaurant. Then I found out there were even table for 4 by the window and other tables for 4 away from hotel lobby! I then go back to the reception desk to request a conversation with the manager. The manager understood this was their fault and immediately said yes we can take that table by the window. If the restaurant is full, I can understand why we get a bad table. But the restaurant was more than half empty! When we got the bill, they even charged us 15% serving fee for the afternoon tea. With this kind of terrible and ridiculous experience, I do not understand what service I am paying for! I believe Shangri-La should kick them out. They ruin the Shangri-La brand image! Why 5 stars hotel can allow this kind of behavior inside their building! By the way, the manager knew what happened and she never showed up again to apologize to us! Please really be careful if you want to book an afternoon tea here. Please also checked online review before you book. There are many other persons’ 1 or 2 stars review about their service. I guessed this happened all the time. The overall review for this restaurant is only 3.9! I should really check the reviews before my family decides to book this one. There are lots of good restaurants and afternoon tea places in London. You always have many other options. DO NOT TRY THIS ONE unless you have other choices!

This is a fantastic place! We arrived late in the afternoon, early for dinner. Decided to have drinks before dinner, switched to tea, and stayed for dinner. Everything was top quality and the flavors were interesting and amazing! The service at every level was absolutely top notch. Giannis, who seems to be one of the managers, was also extraordinary. Amazing view - that’s it. Food was good, but def not worth the money spent (100+ per person). Atmosphere is nowhere near expectation prior to booking this place, could hear the loud radio music from the bar right next to it, dirty carpets, chairs and tables didn’t feel like a reasonable priced restaurant you pay for - felt like as if we were on an old cruise ship. 3 different waiters doesn’t provide any kind of comfortability and calmness. Wouldn’t recommend to anyone unfortunately.

Four little finger sandwiches which had virtually no filling in them. We opened them up to search for the egg or the smoked salmon. They just seemed to be paste. I got the 5 spice beef and the quality of the beef was poor. It was stringy and fatty and practically inedible. My wife got the Tamarind prawns and it tasted like a $14.99 dish from my local Chinese restaurant. Very mediocre. We split the Malaysian fried rice which was also very mediocre. My bill was $350 American dollars. Worst money I have spent since I have been here. If not for the view this place would not be in business in my opinion. The food was that bad. Honestly, completely not worth it. So many other locations that provide a better afternoon experience. We constantly had to chase down our server as it seemed although they had servers standing around, none of them were actively taking notice. We asked for a side of fries for our little one, which never arrived even after chasing a number of times. The food itself, felt pre bought but just presented in a decorative way. If you’re going to charge as much as you do for this and include a service charge in the bill, you’ve got to earn it. Neither the food or staff was worth the cost. TLDR: go somewhere else

I recently dined at Ting restaurant in London and was captivated by the million-dollar view it offered. The food, especially the belly pork dish and seafood pasta, was exceptionally tasty; however, the drinks did not quite hit the mark. Unfortunately, the service was disappointingly slow, with a noticeable delay in drink orders for our party of three, disrupting the overall dining experience. Despite this, the experience was still worth it due to the stunning view and delicious food. There is definitely room for improvement in the service department. On a positive note, the hostesses were welcoming, helpful, and displayed a great attitude throughout our visit.

It was a strange one really. Good & bad points but overall i felt the place deserved a four rating. The view speaks for itself. The initial service was a let down but once seated everything came good. Although i thought asking three times if i was enjoying my bread roll was a bit over the top lol. The food was lovely and even though you don’t appear to be getting g much the quality comes through and you are really full. One tremendous thing my wife was served the cod as a main, we commented quietly to ourselves about the portion size the next minute a manager approached and said he would be serving another main to my wife! We said it was ok but he insisted. An example of great customer service! One thing i thought £25 each for a cocktail is a little on the steep side even for an upmarket establishment but hey i’m a Northerner after all 🤷‍♂️

In summary, the experience was poor (bordering on extremely poor). A couple of points to mention - 1. Service - we were left waiting a long time when we asked for some tea (10-15 minutes) by the time it arrived we finished our cakes. We asked 3 different people for it but was ignored (they said it was coming but it didn't) 2. Food quality was not good, particularly the sandwiches - the bread was dry, and portions were tiny. 3. Food quality - we were advised to let them know when we wanted the scones and they would bring them out hot however they were just brought out when we wasn't ready for them very early on and they were cold and dry. 4. Shard Desert was inedible - the consistency was awful and had too much cream. 5. Finger cakes with almonds were also dry and just awful. Overall experience was disappointing, having experienced several afternoon teas unfortunately this is one of our least favourite. For £80+ per person, just not worth it. Only positive is the setting is beautiful. Hope they can improve their customer service and food! Update - customer service replied and offered 20% discount next time but to be honest we were so disappointed we won't be coming back again soon. Hope to try again in the future as the email seemed sincere.

Title: Caution Advised: My Afternoon Tea Experience Check the reviews! Recently, I had the opportunity to book an afternoon tea at a renowned establishment, which was advertised at £89 per person, including a glass of champagne. The allure of enjoying a refined afternoon in such a prestigious setting, coupled with what seemed like a reasonable package, was quite appealing. However, my experience was marred by unexpected surprises and charges that I believe future patrons should be aware of. A week before our reservation, we were sent an email detailing the champagne brands and their prices. Unfortunately, this crucial piece of information was not provided to us on the day of our visit. ( Note I have seen other reviews that have said the same) Upon enquiring about our champagne options, the hostess informed us that the afternoon tea was £79 and with a glass of Dom Perignon it was £89. This matched the price we remembered and was a delightful surprise until a change in staff led to a shocking revelation at the end of our service. The bill presented to us was nearly double the anticipated amount, totaling £150 per person. Confronting this discrepancy was not just embarrassing but also frustrating. The management's response was to attribute the misunderstanding to our failure to consult the previously emailed menu, despite the misinformation provided by their staff. As a gesture of goodwill, they offered a minor deduction from the bill, which did little to alleviate the situation. This experience left me feeling taken advantage of due to the establishment's opaque pricing and communication. I urge potential visitors to be vigilant and confirm all details, especially regarding upgrades and package inclusions, to avoid similar situations. While the setting and the tea itself might meet expectations, the administrative practices and customer service response to genuine concerns could significantly detract from the overall enjoyment of the afternoon tea experience.

The savory portion was a boring selection of finger sandwiches. The sweets were cute but were similar in taste. My spouse took me to Ting for my birthday in 2023 and the best thing about Ting is the view. They have spectacular views of London. The service is also great but when it comes to food, drinks and price- this is where they lose stars. The menu is Asian in cuisine but leans towards American Asian side. The food presentation was lovely and decorative but the taste was subpar. The drinks were also quite disappointing. I got a whiskey sour which was nothing spectacular and rather sweet. We spent about £300 and I left dissatisfied. I would recommend Ting for maybe a quick drink or maybe their afternoon tea is delectable (I haven’t tried it) with a wonderful view but not for dinner.

MORE AT OpenTable

We had a reservation at Ting on 16th March at 8pm as part of an overnight stay at the Shangri La hotel (which is incredible and should not be implicated by this review). On arrival at Ting, we were immediately uncomfortable as we were led to a table next to a family with noisy children - we asked to move straight away and our waiter advised he would check with the manager and let us know. In the meantime, we asked for a bottle of the Reisling we had drunk earlier that day in the sky lounge. 15 minutes later the waiter returned to say that we were unable to have the wine we requested as it was a different menu, which was understandable but we were unsure why it took 15 minutes to advise this. Meanwhile, the young children next to us continued to make a noise and we reminded the waiter that we were unhappy being surrounded by noisy children at this time in the evening and wanted to move. 10 minutes later he returned to advise the duty manager had advised we could not move. At this point we still had no drink and were becoming increasingly disappointed - this trip was intended as a special celebratory weekend and the service didn’t reflect this. We asked to speak to the manager but this further escalated our disappointment when she arrived and quickly disregarded our request and spoke to us in a rude and dismissive manner. Her attitude was a disgrace she desperately needs some training in customer service- we were shocked to be met with such discourtesy in a 5* hotel. Eventually we were reluctantly moved to another table and the manager was once again dismissive, advising us that it had not been possible to move us sooner as she didn’t have a window table. I questioned this as a window table had not been requested- we simply wanted to move away from the children next to us - it became clear that she had wrongly assumed we were asking to move to the window, which was not the case. Had she taken more time to understand the issue she could have easily avoided the situation. We hoped the move to a quieter table would improve the evening, but once moved the service declined further and we questioned whether we were being ignored for ‘causing a fuss’. An hour in and some food eventually arrived - it was placed in front of us with no explanation of what it was, so we weren’t sure what part of the menu we were eating (we had a 5 course tasting experience). We’d also run out of drinks and weren’t offered further refreshments. The food was nice, but plates then remained in front of us for a long time before being cleared away. Another 10 minutes passed and we continued to be ignored. After over an hour in the restaurant we’d had one very small plate of food - we were both starving and decided to leave as the whole evening had become unpleasant. We spoke to Bruno on the front desk right away and he was extremely sympathetic and helpful. He tried to get us a table in another restaurant but being a Saturday night concierge advised we’d likely have to wait. We therefore decided to have room service. However, the way Bruno handled the situation was commendable. Overall, Ting was a huge disappointment. We had been celebrating a special occasion at one of the most prestigious hotels in London, and ended up going back to our room hungry and devastated. It wasn’t what we had anticipated from the Shangri La and sadly tarnished our stay, which is a shame because the rest of our experience was incredible. Ting really does have a lot to answer for and other reviews suggest there’s a lot of work that needs to be done in order to bring it up to the same standard as the other bars/restaurants at the hotel (which were all exceptional).

Ting is a special way to start the day. The views are stunning and the restaurant setting is lovely. As it was my friend’s birthday they gave an extra treat to celebrate. The service was relaxed and friendly. We were however disappointed by the food quality. We got the continental breakfast and pancakes to share. For the prices on offer, I would expect excellent quality on both counts but they were average at best. The pastries seemed store bought rather than freshly baked. We asked for them to be changed up as they arrived cold and fairly stale and were given a warm batch which were better but still fairly average. The pancakes were ok but not up to standard either. Basic and not fluffy. I’ve had breakfast at Ting in previous years and the food quality has previously been excellent so it was a disappointing drop in standard. Nevertheless we very much enjoyed the setting and ambience.
