Tinderbox in Glasgow City

Lovely service here at the back of five on a Friday 11th October - forgive me for not mentioning your names. 2 folks on duty. Warm welcome and lovely coffee.

Staff are too busy talking amongst themselves to even acknowledge customers.

This Tinderbox location was fast, congenial, and a nice stop to grab coffee from.

Service is great, my furry friend really loves the ice cream.

Dirty tables, dirty floor, one poor lass out front doing her best. I had to use accessible toilet which was filthy and despite being used before me by a member of staff before me, no toilet paper. Shame, the place is in prime location, get more staff and pull your socks up Tinderbox.

The not carrot cake is lovely..

Overall a nice place. Several tables with power plugs, great music (so far, alt folk, acoustic.. lovely). Wi-Fi pretty slow at 8 Mbps. Coffee was nice, I didn't try the food but it looked very nice. Piano in the back room. Great location. My biggest objection? Super hot in here. I'll bet it's over 25° c. And the young lady that took my order was completely sullen and wouldn't even respond when I brightly said thank you more than once. Now this could be because my accent betrayed me as American, and I couldn't understand her question about taking in or out. She meant "for here, or to go?" in American parlance, and the Scottish accent is tough for me (though pleasant). But great atmosphere, nice place, I'd return.

Perfect little cafe, ideal for sitting down and studying: plenty of plug sockets and large tables. Very polite and helpful staff, nice atmosphere, good selection of tasty cakes and drinks. My favourite cafe

Coffee was excellent, food was ok, cakes looked super nice but they weren't covered at all so looked a bit sad late in the day. Put me off ordering a piece.

If at the Glasgow airport MUCH better than Starbucks!! Cheaper too!

Bit expensive but well worth it. I had this raspberry cooler thing, similar to the red berries cooler at Costa, and it was delicious.

Super handy for a late breakfast/brunch with excellent coffee, if you're staying at the nearby Premier Inn as we were. Nice ambience, the pastel de nata were authentic and delicious and the toasties excellent. The highlights were the coffee (which was outstanding) and the service. We visited twice during our stay and were lucky enough to be served by the same gentleman, who was awesome - warm, friendly and helpful. Proper Glaswegian hospitality. 😍 Hopefully he may remember us and can accept the sincere compliments from the grey haired couple who were up from Berwick-upon-Tweed for a gig at The Barrowlands!

A local variation on the big brand coffee shop. Great staff and a good range of hot and cold drinks. Worth a visit

Lassie srving was not very customer friendly as is if she couldn't be bothered serving come in now I was happy that day you put me in a negative mood due to the atmosphere

Excellent selection of seating arrangements, outlets, decently priced coffee, nice staff... Really good study environment. Had to come back the day after.

Great wee spot which is a bit of a break from the sterile coffee places around town. Great to see the remnants of Hitherto in the back shop still there.

Unfortunately a second visit here with my mum who wanted to order a pastry from the counter. I bought her something different after seeing 3 people ahead of me shout their order over the top of the pastries by the cashier. Haven’t we learned anything since Covid!? Put the pastries under a closh or out of the way.

Very disappointed with the Ingram street branch today. Absolutely no vegan choice for breakfast and despite having a menu the male server said didn’t have any bagels. Just got a coffee that was cold and tasteless. Staff too busy chatting to each other and the place is going downhill. Not the cleanest of places and from past experiences the toilets are a no go area.

Rude customer service. Terrible range of food. Ended up just having a drink.

It's a good commercial third space for poor Students

This is my go to place in my beautiful city of Glasgow whenever I need to wax lyrical with industry peeps. The back room is perfect for a public private chat...lol Great staff..friendly and helpful and always with a smile. Well done tinderbox owner Sean O'Kane

The pistachio latte is sweet and perfect for mid morning.

The tea is really nice with fresh leaves. Apple pie with whipped cream was delicious. It is a self service cafe but the staff are friendly and nice

Stood a few minutes while two staff looked at me several times, then one tells me I'm at the wrong side to order. Found a nicer place across from it. Reason it's busier!

Great selection of pastries and cakes. Also noticed a reasonable selection of sandwiches and toastie offerings. Coffee was as good as i've come to expect from Tinderbox. Service with a smile but seemed a bit slower than the West End branch, was probably just the time of day. Anyways, aye, compared to most coffee places in town this place is well worth a visit.

had ordered coffees and a cake while doing some work on our laptops and once we had finished the coffees had taken the tray to the counter, one of the staff members then told me and my friend we ‘had to leave as this is not a library because we hadn’t ordered anything’ our table was empty for not long after we had finished our coffees. customer service was very poor from this staff member and will not be returning as i feel uncomfortable stepping into this establishment from now on. was a very loyal customer previously, very sadden by this experience

Popped in for a take away. Ignored at counter service poor. Ordered Americao with hot milk got to car…guess what no milk!

It's a big cafe that offers a variety of coffee options. On top of that you will find a number of cakes to choose from including vegan options. Ideal if you work from home and prefer to work in a public space.

Good choice of sweet treats and, although my first choice drink was unavailable, there was plenty more to pick from. Couldn't get seats for our party of 5 (late afternoon) so did takeaway.

I came in and was met by a young lady with red hair. She was not nice, lacked in customer service skills and did not even smile. I felt rushed to order and the coffee i ordered was disgusting. It is a pure shame because all the other workers are so sweet and nice, but it really did put me off from visiting this place as often as I usually do

I ordered hot chocolate and it was tasty. The ambience was cosy.

Rude staff. Advertised a soup on a board on the counter - and then looked at me like I was stupid for ordering it because 'Duh, we don't have soup'. Kept the sign up regardless. Treat customers better if you expect them to return.

No semi skimmed milk so coffee made with skimmed and not great. The raspberry and white chocolate muffin was awful. Hard and stale. Waited ages . Staff not unpleasant but clearly inexperienced and overall an awful experience

like the coffee and the space but staff are so useless lol. they advertise organic milk but have no clue about it when asked

Arrived at 645 and the whole place had a “nearly closing vibe “ ..the two Members of staff were rushing around putting chairs and tables away and ten minutes later interrupted our conversation to move us as they were cleaning the area we were sat at ..erm not very friendly . They knocked over chairs and shouted “five minute warning” at erm 740. Was very annoying and rude to feel rushed the whole time rather than somewhere to have a relaxing coffee . The highlight was when the member of staff passed us on her bike at 8.01 pm .. talk about closing on time . Ridiculous

Order got mixed up, no problem, so got charged for two coffees, refunded for one, no apology which was quite rude - when waiting for coffee at end of bar noticed they messed up another customers order, sit in instead of takeaway and a different member of staff rolled their eyes to their colleague… not to mention my milk was burnt… been a regular since a student many years ago - won’t be back in a hurry! So many better speciality places in the city these days

Lovely cafe and friendly staff. Only fussy comment would be to get a better door stopper for the one to the loos! It slams like the rock.

The coffee was great. They do a serious job on the Espresso drinks. Bathroom was a problem to find.

Student cafe. Low tables and benches mainly. It was OK. Able to have a chat and find space at lunchtime

A nice atmosphere, with lots of seating and music that isn't too loud. There is an area with a couch and armchair, and games available to play. Staff are usually quite personable. . The coffee is great - one of the few places that I've found smooth coffee. Usually I find coffee has a bitter or burnt taste. The hot chocolate is good too. Nice selection of pastries. However, I just bought a ciabbata sandwich with mozzarella, tomato, pesto, and red onion that is more red onion than anything else. :(

The cake was good. Unfortunately, the coffee was tasteless and the cup dirty on the outside. I spent over an hour there and the tables with dirty dishes when I arrived weren’t cleared yet when I left. The order took quite long, even though it wasn’t busy and there was enough staff. It seemed they were overwhelmed.

Fast, efficient service delivered by friendly staff. The choice of food can be limited depending on what time you go as this place always seems busy - The cheese & onion panini (toasted) & the Victoria sponge cake were both amazing. Coffee is strong but smooth & there is a good selection of teas, hot chocolate drinks to choose from.

Had the pistachio cappuccino was amazing, this is the only place I know that does this. Great place 👌

Love this place, always a good choice of cakes and sandwiches. The staff are really friendly and great with my little one who loves going for a bit of lunch.

Lovely place with great atmosphere and friendly staff. Sadly we could only buy drinks since they didn't have allergy information for any of the cakes.

A big thanks to all the staff at the coffee shop who looked after us so well whilst the world championships cycling was happening. We were the team parking group and we were so pleased that we had such a great coffee shop to use. Lovely coffee and amazing cakes.

the staff gave my grandpa CPR when he collapsed and also made me a really nice coffee. i tried to leave a tip and the manager chased me down the street to give it back and insist i give it it someone more worthy. definitely recommend.

Great little coffee shop, clean tidy spacious, good selection of coffee/tea, reasonably priced staff are polite and friendly, Sam is a very well mannered staff member went above and beyond....

A bit hectic and not all of the order was filled but the food is good.

Staff are excellent, good sized area at the back, ideal for working or studying.

I'll just cut to the chase. Coffee and cake are nice. Toilets are disgusting. Hand driers don't work. Broken seats. Stains everywhere. Stuff sanitary boxes with sanitary towels sticking out. Empty plastic bottles in the mens toilets. The 'tick sheet for who cleans the toilets' lying outside the toilets on the high chairs, blank. Came here this morning. Sugar station is filthy. Napkin area just a mess. Front door open and the mat is covered in dried leaves that nobody has bothered to sweep up. Trays and cups not collected from tables. When they are, the tables are not cleaned. There are currently 4 people (all girls, so maybe that's why they are not cleaning the men's toilets?) working. There were 2 people here when I arrived at 9.15am. There are about ten people in here now. So they are not exactly rushed off their feet. I come here about once a week for a morning, so the above is based on repeated visits, not just one. I start to feel like I need a shower when I leave here. It's clear to me the owners aren't concerned about this business.

Ordered a muffin it was definitely not fresh. The coffee was ok. I doubt I'd return.

It's well known that service in the UK in general is pretty poor but my experience at this place was awful. I approached the counter to order and was met with a miserable face, no smile at all, very stern and unfriendly. After ordering and paying, she proceeded to throw my change at me, dropping some in the process. When I asked where the sugar was, she simply pointed a finger and barked, "over there!" as if I was an errant child. I have worked in the service industries and I'm not exactly the smiliest person but I found it very easy to smile at every customer I served - it makes a MASSIVE difference. It's a pity because the coffee is good and so are the cakes but I will probably not come back here, it's unfriendly, rude and very very unwelcoming.

I am so upset to have to write this review however my email to tinderbox seems to have been ignored! Myself and my family are regular visitors to tinder box we mostly visit princess square however last Saturday my husband nipped into Ingram street to pick me up my favourite sweet treat as we didn’t have time to sit in. He got me an Eiffel Tower cake so I could have it when we got home. I was so looking forward to it, well upon eating the first bites of the cake it just wasn’t right I was absolutely horrified and disgusted to find mould all over the bottom of the cake 🤢🤮 and this was the end of the story later that evening I started to feel really nauseous, hot and tummy pains until I was eventually sick. As soon as I seen the mould I send an email but as I said above I have yet to have had a response 🤦🏻‍♀️

Restaurant very empty was given a buzzer to wait for coffee. Coffee. Sat on ledge for about 5 min. Staff member says buzzer not working. Had to ask for sweetners and a spoon to stir coffee. Bought a cake no knife no napkins. Won't be back. I will stick.to costa and starbucks

This store was wonderful, lots of hot drink choices, cold drink choices and also offered vegan snacks. The staff were very helpful and polite and the store also had outdoor seating, allowing for a chilled and relaxing coffee In the summer sun.

I Just Love There Hot Chocolate

Very conveniently located near the Strathclyde campus.

We only ate only sándwiches. They came along with potatoes chips.

Opening times not updated, Tuesday closed? They could do with cleanliness on tables more often, difficult to find a clean table in the afternoons. Drinks are ok, average price to high.

The coffee is delicious and the cake is delicious, but the staff member was a bit dry, but the place is good to spend some time

Prefer this one to the one on Byers Road because it has more space but the one on Byres Road is better for people watching, popular place for students to go when studying, can get quite busy and loud, the coffee is really nice and the staff are friendly.

We went to the one on Ingram street and it was lovely. Highly recommend! It’s nice for an independent coffee shop. It had 2 gluten free cake options (strawberry slice or raspberry brownie, both looked nice). My decaf mocha was lovely! But my mums Cappuccino was very basic and she said they could’ve added even some chocolate sprinkles on it for a little something extra - this of course is preference! The strawberry slice was amazing for gluten free - it was just the right taste and textures and it was like summer. So nice to eat! Very refreshing The place itself is nice, and is good for a quick sit down to have a coffee and cake - especially to support independent cafes! It is definitely better than Starbucks or Costa. There are no gluten free options for sandwhiches etc… so bare that in mind. Only a few cake choices! Would go back again, the staff were lovely:)

Coffee was nice but cleanliness left a lot to be desired.Service at counter was unfriendly and offhand. Two dirty trays of cups and discarded food sat on our table for our entire visit. The toilet on the ground floor ( for children & disabled) was filthy, with tap hanging off wall . Most disappointing and will not be back.

Nice place to have a nice coffee, given that it's so close to Strathclyde uni it's obviously full of students, if you can handle exestaintial conversations about all sorts it's not a bad place to be. Absolutely not intimate, if you crave that, go somewhere else.

Sadly I see this particular Tinderbox closing soon like its predecessor Pret. The opening hours on website are totally misleading.. Supposed to be open until 10pm week nights but seems to be closing earlier and earlier probably due to lack of customers. Starbucks, which is just around the corner, is usually packed when this is empty which says a lot. When they do let you in the customer service is poor and the lukewarm coffee not much better. I really like the Ingram Street shop but strongly advise giving this one a miss.

Absolutely disgusting when they put pets before children I have two kids with pet hair allergies and we could not go in to get my kids lunch When I complained the management from the Glasgow fort said that's how it is so bye I was furious Stay well away

Just visited this cafe in Princes Square Glasgow. Not impressed with the service. I asked for a knife & was told the dishwasher is broken!!! Toasted panini cool not hot. Toilets a disgrace.
