Stayed for three nights on a bed , breakfast and evening meal deal which we thought was very good value. The river view room was very nice. All the food we had was faultlessly prepared and really enjoyable. The staff were all friendly and helpful. We took the train into Bath on one of the days and walked to Bath along the canal on the other day , a really lovely walk. Bradford on Avon is a pretty town with some interesting shops and we hope to return sometime.

Celebrating my retirement on the evening of the 30th October Being a mid week event and people finishing work at different times over the course of the evening fourteen colleagues and myself ordered drinks and nine of us ordered food. The place it's self is lovely food was good I had the fish and chips the fish was slighly over cooked the batter was far too crispy other than that everything else was fine. We had a lovely evening up until spotting a rat run across the floor and around the restaurant!! I understand that Timbrells Yard is along side the river but a rat in the restaurant is totally unelectable. We brought it to the staffs attention and they chased round looking for it it was behind a sofa but they couldn't catch it. The staff were quite blasé about it and just said well unfortunately we are next to the river, no real apology, or concern considering between us we had spent a considerable amount of money. My worry is was the rat around all evening, was it in the kitchen or was there more than one !! Who knows. One thong is for sure we won't be returning.

The last time we ate here we said we wouldn’t go again and this meal with six of us was equally bad. I chose plaice which was minuscule and the only option was potato salad to have with it which I don’t like so asked for a salad which consisted of a few spinach leaves and lettuce ones. Our guests had Asian belly pork which my Husband also ordered but he got a pork chop . I wanted Rose’ not the red wine and my Husband had to go and find somebody . That definitely will be the last meal we have there.

We dined for Saturday lunch at this restaurant. The location is good with outdoor areas available. Service was excellent making for a good experience. However food was a bit disappointing, Fish and Chips we did not feel was good, the Foccacia starter didnt have a good ratio or oil to balsamic. Also, although slightly beyond their control, some dogs were barking quite frequently and loudly which made the experience less relaxing. (We have our own dog so nothing against dogs in general terms!)

We decided to take our visiting family for a decent meal out and went to Timbrells Yard midweek. Only one decent beer on but sat outside and enjoyed the ambience. However, our meal was not great. The chicken was good, the veggie option pretty decent but the steak!! Unbelievably bad considering it was a sirloin at £32 - it would have been a disappointment if we’d bought it from a supermarket for £2.50. Tough, full of gristle and just horrible. I notice other people have said the steak is poor here. Can’t understand why they don’t get their meat from the excellent butchers on the Shambles 200 yards away. Service not great either - this place is going downhill I’m afraid.

Went for Father's Day breakfast, the service was poor but forgivable as it was unusually busy and the staff were too thinly spread. My biggest gripe is that the veggie breakfast cost the same as the full breakfast despite there just being less on the plate. That seems like daylight robbery and I don't want to be conned like that again so won't be going back.

My family and several friends stayed here for the weekend of 7th - 9th June, using the hotel as a base when we attended a wedding nearby. We were given a warm welcome at reception, and helped with parking arrangements for the weekend. Our rooms were very comfortable and the lotions and potions in the bathroom were a level above the standard provisions in hotels. We only ate breakfast at Timbrells Yard, served on both mornings by the delightful and super helpful Olivia. Excellent full English on both mornings for me but the vegetarian options were judged to be "very tasty". We used the bar on Friday night and enjoyed the atmosphere and the range of beers on offer.

I have been living in BOA for 4 years and Timbrell’s was one of my favourite to eat/drink I have a painful degenerative illness so my mobility has reduced over the years. It has just been refurbished and the access for mobility has significantly decreased. I have been here twice recently and first time was kept waiting for such a long time for our food order to be taken because she was chatting to other customers and by the time the order was taken they had run out of certain things. I was irritated and she wasn’t bothered and said I can hear you and see you. Today I had a latte and it was still problematic as it’s a longer journey which is hard when you’re in continual pain. I asked for help to open a door and I said that the refurbishment hadn’t been done with mobility in mind and mentioned that things were meant to be getting easier for us under the equalities act not more difficult and he said in his viewpoint there was no difference and that I was wrong. I have many places that I can go to for coffee so am not limited to there.

My second visit in a month and I was slightly nervous returning as my experience of dinner with a friend was underwhelming. However this was a work dinner for 6 guests and I hoped for more - sadlY the evening was a catalogue of disasters which are easiest listed 1. Freezing dining room - none of the heating was on - we had to request it and it took over and hour to start defrosting the room 2. White wine was warm - we had to request additional ice 3. One of the starters had bread which was covered in mould - we flagged it and a replacement was sent with an apology but it was disconcerting 4. The steaks were cold and overcooked- mine was supposed to be sirloin but was a very thin grisly piece of beef- for £33 I expected better quality. One guest sent his steak back and it took over 25 minutes for it to come back 5. The vegetables were cold 6. The peppercorn sauce was hot! But tasted more like gravy and not a trace of peppercorn As this was a corporate booking we had guests staying at the hotel and one of the guests had issues checking in as reception said there was no room booking (lucky he had a copy of the confirmation on his phone). The only positive was the red wine (very good!) and the waitress who I felt sorry for! Fawlty Towers has nothing on Timbrells! We finished the evening watching the rats running around on the patio 🤦♀️

Stayed here for 3 nights in September, during which we celebrated our 50th Wedding Anniversary. Our room 106 was a large double room, with a stand alone bath and separate bathroom with a shower. 3 windows, 2 of which had views of the river. Very well appointed with lovely toiletries, ample tea and coffee facilities. The room is on the top floor of the hotel and only accessible via stairs. The hotel very kindly arranged for a member of staff to take our suitcases to our room and on check out did the reserve. All the staff here are a credit to the management, special thanks to Steve and David who made our stay a delight. On our anniversary we booked a table in the restaurant, attention throughout was above and beyond and after our meal a celebration desert (see photo) was brought to our table. It was very touching and thoughtful and made our evening. Nothing negative to say about Timbrells Yard, even in the bar, when it did get very busy, with two staff serving there wasn't a long wait, mostly young staff who we found to be very polite and friendly. Would return again

We had a very tasty lunch here overlooking the river on my birthday at the beginning of September. A young enthusiastic chef prepared watercress risotto for me and a Caesar salad for my husband and both dishes were excellent. Fast forward to a couple of days ago when, exhausted from moving house, we called in for dinner and I ordered the same risotto dish and my husband chose the flat iron chicken. An older chef prepared a very soggy, tepid risotto and the chicken was tough and tasteless. Added chips or new potatoes would have been extra so he chose a side salad. We just wanted a good meal in a peaceful environment but even that was lacking as a young unruly child ran around playing with cars next to our table. The meal cost over £47 with no starter or pudding and two non alcoholic drinks.

We booked this hotel as a final stopover on our way back from a week away as we wanted a base from which to explore Bradford Upon Avon. We also booked a table for dinner. The hotel is located close to the centre of the town by the river. There is limited parking at the hotel itself but if this is full the hotel can issue a permit for overnight parking in the station carpark which is just a few minutes walk away (although if travelling with a lot of luggage I would advise dropping this first and then parking. There are circular walks down the river straight from the hotel with the Avoncliff canal aqueduct just 1.5 miles awayWe had arrived early so enjoyed a drink in the bar which had a nice buzz. There were a small selection of local ales available. We were checked into room 105 which was up several flights of stairs and which enjoyed a lovely view across the river to the church and upper town. We found the room to be fully stocked with tea, coffee etc although no milk but fresh milk was provided on request. The room was modern clean and comfortable with lovely waterfall shower and a selection of locally produced toiletries. A nice touch was the small bottle of fresh milk left outside the room in the morning. The dining room was spacious with open kitchen. We each had three courses and were very impressed with the quality and flavours of the food much of which is locally sourced. My crispy pig cheek Scrumpet was delicious and the rump steak was one off the best i have ever had, cooked to perfection. Breakfast was cooked to order and also of excellent quality and beautifully presented. Disappointing. Stayed here on a Sunday evening. Given room 101 which was tiny. At check, in we were told there are no staff staying overnight and if there are any problems there is a phone to dial emergency services! We asked if there would be an opportunity for dinner as it is a pub and restaurant too. We were told there was only a 10 minute window to decide….(this was at 1900). When we checked the room, there were no towels or toilet rolls, the blind didn’t shut, The curtains were ragged and didn’t even meet. The radiators had all been switched off so on an autumnal night the room was cold. There were blood stains in the mattress protecter below the sheets that showed through the sheets. The food was bland and very overpriced. I would pay money to stay here again.

We booked a table for 7.15pm on a Sunday evening. Initially we faced with a sign in the porch saying wait here until a staff member comes. Nobody came, so after a few minutes of feeling rather silly standing there, we went on in. The man behind the bar made eye contact but chose not to engage with us. Still we wait… then a waitress directs us to a table, we then wait 20 minutes until drink order was taken. Finally we get our first drink 30 minutes after arriving. We then ask to go through to the restaurant for dinner. The table we are shown to is wobbly and so yet again we have to wait till we get the attention of a waitress ask to move to a stable table, which she does. She takes our order for a roast dinner and then yet again the waiting continues. Another 35 minutes until we receive our dinner. The food was lovely and of good quality. However, as the waitress literally drops our food in front of us and races to leave, we manage to ask for horse radish before she disappears. She does get the sauce but we can’t help but feel like we are an inconvenience. When we ask for the bill (as we really don’t want to wait any longer by asking for dessert menu and then the actual dessert ) we then… surprise surprise wait for another 15 minutes for it to arrive and then another 15 minutes go past and no one comes to take it. So we have to go in search of the waitresses to pay.Overall, it’s a real shame. Lovely pub and restaurant and the food was really lovely. But the service was dreadful. The staff are lovely individuals but we felt incredibly invisible all night. We felt we were inconveniencing the staff. We felt we had to ask for everything. This place could be so much better by improving customer care. We will not be going back as time is a precious commodity and we like to feel welcome by staff, not an inconvenience.

We visited Timbrell’s Yard to celebrate a 90th birthday. Excellent food and atmosphere. Staff were friendly and professional and dealt easily with a large group. Nothing was too much trouble and they made the whole experience very special! Would highly recommend

Wow! This place was a gem to find. We visited last week and we were so impressed. The menu is adventurous and the dishes were full of flavour. The staff are absolutely outstanding, a credit to Timbrells Yard. Everyone we spoke to were very polite and full of energy. Nothing at all was too much to ask. We will definitely be returning. You have put Bradford On Avon on the map for my whole family. Thank you.

Anticipated a lovely lunch, however, sticky table, missing condiments, service slow to glacial, food overpriced. Never serve a cold salsa on a hot dish especially fish. Appears to be inspired by Masterchef!Service was so slow it meant we did not have time for pudding or coffee, even though we had been there for over an hour consequently we are unlikely to recommend or return.

We are local and have been visiting Timbrell’s frequently since start-up. Often 2-3 times a week for coffees, drinks and meals. I’m sorry to say this place is going steadily down hill with poor service, lack of ambiance and low value for money. An evening meal takes a min of 2 hours to be served and you have to constantly chase the staff to take or bring your order. Then there’s the new 10% service charge..It’s impossible to show up anymore for a spontaneous drink or coffee as restaurant is always understaffed so staff do their best to turn clients without bookings away. This used to be a thriving spot at the heart of the town, sad to see it’s been reduced to a place most locals would avoid.

I cannot begin to explain how shocked we were, yet again, to be told there that they only had 1 table available for my wife and I when clearly the rest of the pub was as good as empty , we really didn’t want to sit outside at 7pm at this time of year. Covered area outside was empty but we were dumped in the area as you arrive. We decided to leave and, as locals, we have now visited this place for the last time as we are often made to feel not welcome.

We visited here with another couple at about 5om on Saturday 11th to have a drink on my birthday. There was nobody at all inside the pub and only about 2 small tables taken outside. There were 2 girls behind the bar who didn't appear to be doing much and as we walked in we were told that they couldn't serve anyone because they were busy setting up tables for dinner. None of us could believe what we were hearing. We only wanted one drink to have in the outside area. What sort of pub opens it's doors and then refuses to serve any drinks even when they are almost completely empty? If they are that short staffed they should stay closed. I have to say it's not the first time we've visited Timbrells Yard and had poor service. My daughter waited over an hour once for a sandwich to arrive, despite reminding them a couple of times. Poorly managed. Despite living in the town we won't be bothering again.

Thought we would give TY another try and celebrate our wedding anniversary there. Very disappointing my husbands veg was cold so sent it back, mine was not much warmer both were served on cold plates and in the semi alfresco area we were soon feeling chilly. My husbands meal was returned (minus one potato that he had not eaten) when I had nearly finished my hake. Hardly the enjoyable meal “together” we were looking forward to. The meal was over priced for the portion size and nothing was taken off the bill for our disappointment (not even the service charge). Will not be going back!

We have been regulars at this restaurant since moving to Bradford on Avon three months ago but have recently experienced the service to be going downhill. The food is mediocre and overpriced and the service is below par. You seem to be ignored totally once you have finished your main course and have to ask to see the dessert menu which is again left with you for so long that you have gone off wanting to order by the time the waitress reappears. It really needs to up its game as there are many more places to frequent in the town where our custom is valued. Unfortunately we will not be returning anytime soon!

I remember my friend Kelly told her work and did booked a table for my mum's birthday dinner because she want going out outside of Bath, less stairs with near car park it's very helpful and lovely place. I know Friday is very busy but it's wonderful and not many crowds. We have starter and main - they are excellent foods same as we chose red wine. We want chose desserts but we are full. Thank you Kelly for telling me your work :) Definitely come back again we will have main and dessert yummy!

10/10 for everything, super friendly and helpful staff and beautiful outdoor views for eating. Drinks and food were spectacular the best meal out I've had in a long time. The presentation of the food and drink were also gorgeous as well as delicious. Slightly on the pricier side but for good reason, perfect for a family meal or treat. Would definitely come again thank you!

I’ve been visiting for drinks and dinner as a local since first opening. It was great at the start! I have since seen a steady decline in service and quality and more recently a very steep rise in prices (and diminishing portions sizes) and I don’t have a large appetite! I don’t like the new semi plastic alfresco area either! Time to try somewhere new!

Limited overpriced menu. We were recommended this restaurant but sadly didn’t enjoy it. We had booked a table and there was no table set up for us on arrival. It’s a strange set up on arrival if you have never been before. You open to door and the reception area is actually through the back but you are unsure if that’s for the hotel area or for the restaurant and you are left standing at the restaurant entrance and no one greets you to take you to your table. Ordered cod and chips and the cod was cold and very tasteless. Was not in the mind set for any deserts after that.

Have known for some time that TY food is overpriced. £14 for a burger is silly, especially when the burger comes overcooked and dry. My friend had the panna cotta for dessert which she had to send back. She described it to me as a 'gelatinous and tasteless blob'. I could see that it was grey and rubbery. I give the staff a star to themselves as I could see that they are trying to improve service. However, our waitress forgot to put my drink order in, so I sat waiting for something that was never going to come. Cancelled it in the end when my friend sent back her dessert. Too often when I've gone for a meal here, I'm hopeful that I'll have a nice time and feel I've gotten my money's worth. Some of the meals I've had are good, but all seems overpriced. We were told upon arriving that we had only half an hour at the table, so we moved outside to not have to rush. Noticed that nobody was ever seated at the original table, or any other tables near by. Great location, but not worth the disappointments.

The only saving grace was the lovely waitress. The food was underwhelming and massively overpriced. £15 for a quinoa salad that probably cost £1.50 to make.

Booked a table for the restaurant, got seated in the bar area, despite the restaurant and outdoor seating being nearly completely empty. When we asked the waitress what the specials were she couldn't pronounce it and gave up half way through explaining. Took an hour from being seated for our starters to arrive, which was shortly followed by our drinks order which was placed at the same time as starters. Starters were decent, mains came out nearly an hour later stone cold which we sent straight back to the kitchen. Desert was on point and prompt as we had complained I feel that we had got preferential treatment. Bar staff seemed like they all wanted to go home/die. Sad because it's normally a decent place to go.

The restaurant was very busy and very noisy indeed such that normal conversation at a small table inside the restaurant was difficult. Perhaps the restaurant should investigate sound absorption schemes for the walls and ceiling? I wonder why they have canned music? Our table on arrival was unstable - we had to ask for one leg to have a wedge inserted. We asked for 500ml of red wine and were brought a 750ml bottle which we rejected. The food was good - excellent lamb. But the cheese board and in particular the biscuits (Dukkah, soft and pliable) disappointing.

Loved our family time at Timbrells. Staff are superb & couldn't do enough to make our stay comfortable. One half of our family has a mezzanine room great if you have little ones, with a magnificent view of the canal. We had a large room on the otherside of the hotel, no view to speak of but the room was perfect & spotlessly clean. Tea/coffee/milk/water & replenished if needed. Had breakfast both mornings which was scrummy. Can do "build your own breakfast" which was very handy as I can be a bit fussy. Had an evening meal both nights too, again, delicious, freshly prepared food couldn't fault it. Easy access into quaint little market town from Timbtells. Hotel was close to the train station very convenient if you wanted to venture further. No noise at all from the station. Very small car park at hotel, 4 spaces I believe, but you can park at the station car park & the hotel gives you a free permit during your stay. Lovely canal which runs past the hotel & is a nice walk. One thing, there is no lift so heavy suitcases mightbe difficult on the stairs. All in all an amazing stay & will return.

Not sure where to start! Waited half an hour for drinks order then 4 waitresses then asked within 5 mins then a beer arrived and our bottle of wine did not. After 15 minutes told was “run out” ordered another and that was also not also not available eventually choosing the most expensive Rose that arrived tepid and Luke warm so I had to then get up and walk around until I did find a waitress and get more ice in the bucket. If got worse as our food order took at least 45 mins to arrive and in fairness it was ok albeit the burger was on the very micro small side! However as soon as the food eventually arrived smokers came out and started smoking on the next table! Worse still one of them was a member of staff. So asked for bill and the waitress was so very sarcastic fed up and very rude especially when I asked if something could be done on the bill as the long wait, terrible service, warm rose wine and smokers eventually ruining our meal. I would seriously avoid this place. Which is a shame as it could be good.

Lovely place nestled away in Bradford on Avon. Some of the friendliest, best service in the area! Fun food, a very creative menu and lovely ambience in the restaurant. Perfect location for gorgeous walks and exploring Somerset. Very minor downside is the rooms in the old part of the hotel aren’t too quiet at night (didn’t bother us but if you like an early night bear it in mind and ask for a room in the newer part of the hotel further away from the restaurant).Overall would definitely recommend! A very romantic stay, we will be back.

The food was excellent and so full of flavour and well cooked. It’s so nice to be out and enjoying good food again. Even the weather didn’t bother us. The marquee was heated with a big fire in its centre and I can only assume that improvements have been made following previous customer comments. Timbrells Yard was busy and there was lovely vibe to it. It was so nice to see people (and their pets) enjoying themselves again.

I was looking for short notice Sunday lunch for 4 and as our friends were staying here we decided it was the right place. We have Sunday lunch often and would have chosen somewhere out of town if they hadn't have been booked up. I was not impressed with the offering here. It was OK but knowing what I could have been served elsewhere I was disappointed. Not enough meat. Everything was already on the plate...I would expect a big dish of steaming veg separately....but no...just 1 floret of broccoli I slice parsnip.a few bits of carrot. Not what I expected and to be honest....a bit embarrassing as I was treating them. Sorry. We often stop by door coffee and cake but won't be having Sunday Lunch again.

Really nice pub, in the centre of a stone circle! It's a good spot to chill after exploring the stone circles and ancient mounds of surrounding Avebury. It's actually quite large and upmarket, not in a bad way, it's not a stereotypical village pub in looks inside. Though it still has a friendly, rest-stop feeling to it. The pub has outdoor seating and indoor dining areas. Not had the food but been several times for drinks while exploring the beautiful areas around it. Always had a good experience, the staff and other patrons are very friendly. Can get quite busy as it's a destination pub for walking groups and tourists, so if you wish to eat booking a table is advised.

We visited on a Sunday for breakfast. Arriving a couple of minutes after 10am (opening time), we queued for a table and then again to order food. There were plenty of tables but appreciated it was busy - not all tables were full. We waited for 50 minutes for our food to arrive, although coffee arrived much earlier. This was prompted by us asking where our food was/checking the order had been made, to which we were told ‘we’d just have to wait because it was busy’. The food arrived 5 minutes later. The food was tasty and we’ve no complaints about the quality or price. But, something about the system here just doesn’t make sense, queuing at every point and then waiting another 50 minutes for scrambled eggs on toast and a bacon sandwich, doesn’t make sense. We arrived at 10 and didn’t leave until 12:15…. People had started arriving for lunch! Sadly, we’d not return. There are just other places nearby that are doing it better.
