I have been here now more than once with my dog Izzy and every time I have been made to feel welcome and enjoyed my meal or drink. It's such a lovely location if you get a seat outside in the sun. You can go for a little walk and come back should tables be full. The food is great, I've not had a bad meal and there are treats and plenty water bowls for the dogs to have a drink. Izzy can be a bit protective of the table being a GSD but is harmless and everyone just laughed at her atrocious old lady behaviour which was nice as it can upset some.

8 of us called in as we were travelling by on a barge holiday. Claire, Evva and all the other wonderful staff made us feel so welcome. Food and local beers were outstanding, wonderful big round table, warm and friendly atmosphere made for a great afternoon and evening and Claire let us use her moorings which made our life so much easier. Shame we live so far away, keep up the great work, best wishes from Andy and all the boys on the Lazyfox

I booked the Barge Inn to hold a lunchtime wake following a family funeral. The booking was for 40 people and the food was brilliant - one of my party had a gluten intolerance and this was accommodated without any trauma whatsoever. The staff were lovely and made what could have been a miserable experience very easy and painless. Thank you to everyone involved.

A lovely place and have been often, but Quite disappointed this time sadly. No welcoming smiles on staff, if anything looked bit overworked and looked like didn’t want to be there throughout. But now Let’s play a game of Spot the difference…. between a kids burger meal of £7.75 and adults burger meal at £16.85. I asked for a plain burger for my child, but burger still same size and actually was bigger than mine… the only difference was I had one slice of tomato, one piece of lettuce and some sauce. Everything else was the exact same! The chips were absolutely covered in too much salt as can see in my pic so we could not eat them, they were inedible. And the pot of coleslaw…well it’s not a pot, it’s a dip pot no more than a mouthful really..fine for kids but for adult prices expect more really. It’s a shame as came for food a while ago and enjoyed. But seems to have gone downhill, and for what I paid was a complete rip off so I won’t be eating there again. Maybe just order a kids meal even… you’ll save loads but get same quality! I will contact management directly also about it. But I just want people in similar shoes who don’t have much money to be aware of this. I work in a local pub and get how tough it gets but food covered in salt and kids portions at adult prices are not acceptable.

Beautiful location, the staff were friendly and everything seemed clean and welcoming. A complete contrast to where we had just been previously at Pewsey Wharf which was an absolute tip of a place. We only had drinks but the food that we saw being prepared looked very appetising and the place certainly looked clean and we would certainly have considered eating there again unlike at Pewsey wharf which although only 10 minutes away and cleanliness and atmosphere seemed like 1,000,000 miles . Definitely worth a visit.

While all aspects of the Barge Inn are fantastic, I just wanted to say a special thankyou to one of the staff working (I didn't get his name unfortunately). After riding to the pub, I realised my bike tyre had a puncture and was completely flat. A lovely gentleman asked what was wrong and upon being told, quickly offered to store my bike in the staff area until I could get home and drive back to collect my bike. All staff were lovely but obviously a special thanks was needed here.

I’m sorry to share that I visited this pub on Tuesday 25th March for lunch to celebrate a friends Birthday and didn’t have a great experience. We hadn’t booked a table but were able to be accommodated us for lunch. We placed our orders and after 15 minutes advised that the kitchen has run out of gas and were unsure if they could fulfill our order. We asked if they could check with the kitchen to confirm if we would receive any food and also confirmed We were happy to change our order to sandwiches to accommodate. We didn’t have anyone confirm back to us and another 15 minuets passed and the food arrives. We were disappointed with our meal and felt that this was probably down to the problems with the gas. We asked for more water for the table which was never received. We would have had pudding but after 20 minuets with no one collecting our plates we gave up! Due to no one visiting our table we had to go to the bar to order a hot drink. In between all of this the owner was shouting at an elderly couple who were not prepared to pay for their meal due to the service and food. The owner escorted them off the promises past our table which I didn’t feel was required on a quite Tuesday lunchtime when they where clearly leaving. As you can imagine all of these things didn’t leave us having an enjoyable experience which is such a shame as it’s a lovely pub and great setting. I hope this was just a blip but to run out of gas on a Tuesday and shout at customers is unacceptable.

Valentines special occasion menu. £75. Very disappointed, the Main course Steak Platter had to be returned it was difficult to cut and impossible to chew. Probably not aged, certainly not rested. We were not offered a replacement platter just two dishes of the standard menu. We had paid in advance as requested and no recompense offered. Beware special occasion menu’s and paying in advance. The slow response to my first email meant I had forwarded my concern to the Brewery Operation Director. No response at all from there. Let’s finish on the only good point. The serving staff were great, always polite and courteous. Just a shame our special occasion fell well short of the required standard.

Quality food and well kept ale. Friendly, professional staff. Beautiful canal-side setting. It's the details that make the difference... The banter between staff and regulars creates a relaxed atmosphere. My main meal was steak pie and chips - not only was the pie delicious, tender cuts of meat in a juicy flavoursome gravy but the oft overlooked chips had a crisp exterior and light fluffy texture. The veg was attractively presented. Dessert was the pub staple of treacle pudding, which again was prepared with care - light without a hint of stodge. The clotted cream ice cream was the perfect accompaniment. The landlord and lady should be rightly proud of the experience they offer.

We booked a table for two as was a Sunday. The restaurant was almost empty on arrival and we ordered dinner. I had the 6X steak and ale pie with chips and seasonal veg. It came with gravy. It was laced with too much salt. I expected a higher quality filling and couldn’t taste the ale at all. The filling was a dark combination of beef and salty stodge. I had to drink pints of water throughout the night to neutralise the salt. The service though was very good. What on Earth has happened to the old Barge Inn I remember?!

We met family mid way for a walk and then a meal. We were seated at a big round table so that we could all easily talk to each other, which was lovely. Then for once I had several delicious sounding things to choose from on the Coeliac friendly menu. I opted for the Henry burger and I have to say it was one of the best I ever had! The bun which I never usually eat was delish, the meat was so tasty and the beef tomato the same size as the burger and bun! The ketchup etc was all gluten free too. All of our meals were great and then came the dessert menu....I had to have the gluten free Apple and blackberry crumble with custard (how could I not) and every mouthful was truly sublime. Am returning for a repeat asap. We had a great family time and the lovely server made it even better, she was adorable, so helpful and a credit to the pub management. Veg, potatoes etc. Two of the party had roast pork which was apparently so chewy and tough, one beef really fatty and one chicken cold but cooked. Bit of an odd situation to find myself in, but I was refused meals with gluten in based on a throw away comment from another member of my family. I opt to eat gluten free pasta as a life style choice and so was pointed out that there was a gluten free menu to be then told that I wouldn’t be able to eat anything with gluten in to protect the chefs and restaurant. I was told that intolerances would be treated as allergies - to which I have neither. This would have been fine by me, but I don’t eat meat and so had one option on the menu to choose from. It was disappointing to say the least and felt as though I wasn’t heard or acknowledged. Frankly, I should have just not ordered or spent money with you based on this experience, but was taken aback in the moment. I’ll be reaching out to you to log a complaint based on this experience.

However, a group of teenagers now frequent it, they buy nothing, lounge around the seats feet on the tables and stand on the chairs and on occasion use a vape. I've only just left along with another regular user. The language being used was loud and offensive. I shall have to find somewhere else to go. Shame.

We loved our stay here. Its good value for money. Some decor would not go amiss- needs to be kept in keeping given its wonderful heritage.

It's got a good selection of beers and if you're hungry the café in the courtyard is excellent for breakfast and lunch. As per all the pubs in Marlborough, you pay more per pint than most places. The locals say it's the cheapest pub in Marlborough and it might well be, but it's still expensive.

Precio moderado.
