Lovely atmosphere, and really cosy, clean and warm. Fabulous pub for walks with the dog as it's right on the canal. We enjoyed lunch, 10/10 for the fries and service. Definitely go back again.. Christmas menus sounds tasty. Great value.

Visit at short notice having tried all morning to find somewhere accessible by wheelchair - Tel call first and staff were welcoming and truthful about access, and subsequently excellent at their jobs. Food very good value and good portions - clean and friendly premises in all respects, without piped music. Would recommend to anyone who wants a decent lunch in a proper pub that is in a lovely setting, without feeling 'off limits' if you aren't as mobile as the rest of the clientele. Well done !

Having been a frequent visitor of the Barge in my younger years, I was excited to head back for Sunday lunch today and it did not disappoint: I think it’s the best best roast I have had in a long long time, service was fab, atmosphere was lovely, the food was divine! Super relaxed and no dramas for us with two young kids either. Thanks for a lovely afternoon.

We met family mid way for a walk and then a meal. We were seated at a big round table so that we could all easily talk to each other, which was lovely. Then for once I had several delicious sounding things to choose from on the Coeliac friendly menu. I opted for the Henry burger and I have to say it was one of the best I ever had! The bun which I never usually eat was delish, the meat was so tasty and the beef tomato the same size as the burger and bun! The ketchup etc was all gluten free too. All of our meals were great and then came the dessert menu....I had to have the gluten free Apple and blackberry crumble with custard (how could I not) and every mouthful was truly sublime. Am returning for a repeat asap. We had a great family time and the lovely server made it even better, she was adorable, so helpful and a credit to the pub management. I didn't get her name but she had a buzz cut and tattoos. Thank you so much for making our family meet up so special, we will be retuning :)

Booked a last minute Sunday Lunch for 4 at 2pm 29th Sept, arrived and the venue was very loud and not really the best atmosphere for catching up with family. Ordered drinks and food and all was well, until the food arrived, plates cold, food just about warm and missing certain items…. Veg, potatoes etc. Two of the party had roast pork which was apparently so chewy and tough, one beef really fatty and one chicken cold but cooked. Really disappointing and not what we were expecting, would certainly not go back or recommend. Other pubs offer better roasts and better value for money.

Lovely atmosphere. We sat outside on a Lovely sunny day. Starters of chorizo and calamari were great but went downhill from there. I ordered warm quiche of the day with salad a d new potatoes the quiche had no flavour at all. Could not tell you what it was meant to be and they never said. Just egg filling with nothing else worse of all it came with chips and NOT new potatoes. Trying to find someone to report this to was impossible therefore meal spoilt. Will be going back to The Three Magpies next time.

Quality food and well kept ale. Friendly, professional staff. Beautiful canal-side setting. It's the details that make the difference... The banter between staff and regulars creates a relaxed atmosphere. My main meal was steak pie and chips - not only was the pie delicious, tender cuts of meat in a juicy flavoursome gravy but the oft overlooked chips had a crisp exterior and light fluffy texture. The veg was attractively presented. Dessert was the pub staple of treacle pudding, which again was prepared with care - light without a hint of stodge. The clotted cream ice cream was the perfect accompaniment. The landlord and lady should be rightly proud of the experience they offer.

It’s been a while since we went to the barge for lunch and it will be a long time before I go again . Two roast meals Yorkshire puddings overcooked . Beef and roast pork nice . Vegetables plated with the meat not in a separate tureen . . I had hot smoked salmon salad .salmon was nice , however the portion was starter size, half a plate of salad leaves no tomatoes and a couple of radish sliced up. The ice cream ordered for desert was plonked on the table by a young lad who didn’t enquire who it was for . Yep I could have said something while there but they seamed dissinterested . Beautiful pub lovely setting . Poor service poor food choice

Bit of an odd situation to find myself in, but I was refused meals with gluten in based on a throw away comment from another member of my family. I opt to eat gluten free pasta as a life style choice and so was pointed out that there was a gluten free menu to be then told that I wouldn’t be able to eat anything with gluten in to protect the chefs and restaurant. I was told that intolerances would be treated as allergies - to which I have neither. This would have been fine by me, but I don’t eat meat and so had one option on the menu to choose from. It was disappointing to say the least and felt as though I wasn’t heard or acknowledged. Frankly, I should have just not ordered or spent money with you based on this experience, but was taken aback in the moment. I’ll be reaching out to you to log a complaint based on this experience.

I used to go here when I was a kid back in the 60s. Like most pubs it’s lost a bit of its old world charm and is obviously “managed”. There used to be a barmaid and bar man which added that bit extra that people love. We had breakfast outside under the shade. The breakfast bap is to die for and is better value than standard plated version. Lovely place as it’s always been. I’m sure my Dad was looking down on us and urging me to grab a pint of 6X!

Very disappointing. Ordered the Camembert starter off the gluten free menu. It was brought out without the red onion marmalade that the menu said it came with. Enquired about it, the waiter said they'd go and get it. He came back and said "It has gluten in it". Strange, as it is listed on the GF menu, but we are not allergic so we said that's fine. He then came back and said "My manager says I can't give it to you as it has gluten in it" which is rubbish as we'd said we weren't allergic, just preferably Gluten free. Our choice whether we eat it or not anyway, but why list it on the GF menu? My guess is they'd run out, in which case just say that. Once we'd finished our starter, we then waited over an hour for our mains. Won't be going back. Edit: The Barge Inn replied to this review asking me to email them. I emailed them twice and they have never replied. They have now deleted the reply. Disgusting service.

Really great food, great selection of drinks, lovely setting next to the canal, and fabulous service. booked again for next week. Plenty of seats inside and out, book in advance because this does get quite busy during lunch and dinner and definitely on the weekends. (especially Sunday's) So many dishes we have tried and all thoroughly enjoyed, my husbands fish and chips was huge! the Truffle and parmesan fries are wonderful... and me? Well I have to highly recommend the steak pie, mash, greens and gravy made with 6X to have of course alongside a pint of 6X, and the same should be said with a the sticky toffee pudding, made with Swordfish Ale (infused with Rum - absolutely delicious- quite treacly) so had to have a pint of Swordfish with that too... yep highly recommend.

Pub food at gourmet prices. It had been a while since I last ate here so thought I'd treat my partner and I to dinner on Sunday afternoon. What a mistake that was! I ordered ham, egg and chips and a burger, nothing too ostentatious. Over £15 for ham egg and chips?? What planet are you on?? The ham, whilst sliced fairly thick, was strung with fat, the chips weren't cooked enough and the eggs...well, they were fried eggs. I had the exact same meal at another pub not 4 days before this. That cost me £6.95 and whilst the ham may have been slightly thinner, it certainly wasn't £10 worse! And the burger.....£17?? It was a burger and fries.....that's it. Sort your prices out and I may come back! I didn't complain at the time because we'd already had a very long day and I didn't want to cause a scene in front of my new partner.

🚇 Aldgate East 🍺 £5.30 Amstel ❤️ A proper old school London high street pub. . The White Hart is located on forever busy Whitechapel High Street and just a stones throw away from Aldgate East Tube. . This neck of the woods is undergoing massive redevelopment at present, the local landscape has changed irreversibly over the past couple of years which sadly saw the end of a local and excellent pub The Still & Star, this pub is being replaced by towers of steel, glass and concrete (progress) ☹️ . The White Hart looks like it has been slotted in to the row of buildings it sits along with. This narrow pub is quite simple architecturally and has a traditional pub frontage. At the right hand side of the pub is Gunthorpe Street, a cobblestone narrow alleyway which was a location of one of Jack The Rippers murders. I had a peer up the alleyway and it does have a moody atmospheric feel to it. . Inside, this boozer is long and narrow and does stretch back a fair bit. The decor is traditional with a wooden floor, a bright red panelled bar and lots of bric-à-brac on the walls and ledges. . I visited on a Saturday afternoon and the atmosphere was very lively with a mix of a few locals, tourists and a few lively characters who had been on the sauce all day and had just come back from The Arsenal win over Man U. The beer choice here is simple, I ordered a pint of Amstel which was a good drop and my cheapest pint of the day at £5.30. I must mention the Guvnor, as mentioned earlier there were a few fellas who were raising the noise levels and he calmly kept them in check. I spoke with him briefly, he was from the same part of Ireland my family are from, he’s a big fella and was well in command of this E1 pub. . I love a high street pub, for me there is always that little edge to them about who’s in attendance or who’s going to walk in the door. The welcome and service here were top notch and you will be well looked after. The White Hart is a proper London pub and is a great example of how all pubs used to be around this manor. Top pub, top Guvnor’, nuff said me old china. . 📊 Information correct on visiting 23/04/22

We stopped for lunch on our way to a spa break on Sunday. My diet can be a bit tricky, but when the staff saw that I was struggling, they had a word with the chef and came up with a lovely vegetarian roast without cauliflower, mushroom or potato. The homemade sausages were the best I've ever had, and I'm now hunting down recipes to try! A very welcome lunch.
