Went as a party of 7 for Sunday lunch. All food was brought to the table in a steel pan, potatoes, veg, meat and Yorkshire puddings all stacked up for us to help ourselves. We asked if a second pan was coming as there didn’t appear to be enough for our party and the server responded that there was. After waiting for it to arrive we subsequently found out from a second server that she was wrong and this was all of the food. There was one slice of meat each, not enough veg and a jug of gravy which only served 3. We had to go and ask for more gravy which was quickly brought. Nobody came to ask about dessert so again we had to ask. Fruit crumble was cold, mentioned to the server who’s response was ‘I’ll look into it’. All such a shame as the food was tasty but a let down from previous visits and poor value.

Good welcome and service was quick. That is where the good ended. The food took ages to arrive even though we were the only ones waiting. The order was taken but the server go the order wrong with the ordinary Mac n Cheese order mixed up with the vegan one. We did not realise until no chicken and bacon could be seen or tasted. The chips with the gorgeous gammpn steak were undercooked on the inside but golden on the outer surface. So disappointing but staff seemd pleasant.

The food here is excellent but the atmosphere reminded me of hospital - white walls, white tables, white chairs and even white Christmas trees. I felt cold even though the place was warm

The Farmhouse, as it's now known, has been updated, upgraded and is greatly improved. The decor is much lighter and brighter and welcoming. We had a private function in the loft room which has its own bar and is very comfortable. The food was fantastic - individual servings of savoury items and also the most amazing cakes. Enormous scones with clotted cream and jam were a big hit and the frangipane tart was incredible. All homemade. Well done chef. The staff were friendly and very accommodating to any requests. We will be back.

Enjoyable meal in the bar area. Tables looked lovely with little vases of flowers, gone are the horrible wooden boxes of condiments.Tables laid and some fresh look crockery being used. The menu appears to have been refreshed with some new dishes. Food good value, presented well and hot. The staff were on the ball professional and conversationally with us. A really lovely meal and eating out experience.

Lovely venue but the negatives far outweighed this positive -dreadful wait to be have order taken and even longer for service. Wait between courses a joke. - when main meal did arrive the amount of meat was pitiful...photo taken as evidence. Yordksire puddings cremated to a burnt crisp. Plates cold and thus food too. - I had sea bass. One very nice fillet but four cold halves of potato and a limp length of cabbage. -one slice of beef per roast dinner/ one very small Turkey " slice" of rolled meat...not a proper turkey. - yes I did complain at the time - brother waited over 10 minutes at the bar to buy a round of drinks and then gave up. - we were told one member of staff was off sick. Felt like most of staff were off the service was so bad. - stupidly went ahead and ordered dessert after lengthy wait of the courses. Once again, a ridiculous wait. - half party finished their desserts whilst waiting for others to arrive. We had to start as we had ice cream. Crumble was cold. Will vote with my feet and never return. Over priced and poor value.

First impressions were good...characteristic setting and comfortable atmosphere. Wait for service was long and didn't get any better throughout our meal ( 3 hours for a 2 course meal). Starters were good but main courses although looked impressive were disappointing once deconstructed....Turkey not cut from the bird, roast potatoes rock hard, extra vegetables should have been warmer and Yorkshire puddings cremated beyond all hope. Complaints dealt with but delayed us all eating at the same time. Desserts....when asked if i wanted ice cream on my berry crumble my response was ' no thank you, its already cold enough'.!!! Taken away and reheated, the wonders of a microwave. Issues all raised prior to settling the bill but thats when the insult hit home...'sorry for the problems, but we've deducted one of the cauliflower cheese portions as a good will gesture'....diabolical.!! Bill was nearly £200....money definitely not well spent. Will not be returning until staffing issues both front of house or in the kitchens have been addressed. Norfolk has so much more to offer.

Our friends had come down from Yorkshire to visit family. They were staying at Timbers so we arranged to meet them for a meal. The setting in the middle of nowhere is a beautiful place, really full of character with lots of beams that look original. The welcome by the staff was superb. You felt welcome and relaxed straight away. We were showed to a table and served drinks, excellent so far! The menu was very limited and I'm sorry to say the quality and quantity were the same. I don't know how many holiday chalets they have, but besides us there was only one other table eating and one gentleman at the bar. Perhaps a more comprehensive menu would attract more of the families.

We have been here several times bringing friends and family as well as coming by ourselves. The food is always very well thought out and such an excellent menu. We have never been disappointed with the food and it has never been below a 10/10 which for getting on for 75 meals between ourselves and visitors is going some. Service is always friendly and polite and quick and again cannot fault the people. This is our default place to come to and worth the 12 mile drive. If you haven't been the give it a try. On Sunday 7th April, staff at The Timbers came very much to our rescue. We were dreadfully let down by the Denver Bell at almost the last minute. We rang The Timbers, not expecting them to accommodate 21 people at such short notice. After double checking they said it would be possible to help us. We contacted all our guests attending the 90th birthday celebration. The Timbers staff were amazing, for the entire celebration. We cannot thank them enough. They have no idea how thankful we all are. We all meet again at Christmas, this will also be at The Timbers. They are all so professional, so polite and helped us make some treasured memories. Thank you to every one of you. From Alan and Janet Law.

We waited for our friends and had a drink, this was the best bit about our visit. We where shown to our table and had a look at the menu, I chose crawfish cocktail my wife had ham hock and our friends had the same. These where very nice, it’s not something we normally would of had but as I say tasted very nice. I then had Serloin steak cooked medium, this was not cooked enough and was rare, but it tasted ok but not really nice which I would expect if it was a good cut as it wasn’t cheap. My wife had chicken pie, this was more pie than chicken and tasted nice. Our friends had chicken which he said tasted awful, and she had the burger which was burnt and she couldn’t eat it, so we called the waitress over and she took it back and then came back with it and said the marmalade came looking like that. But the roll was burnt and the burger was tough. Another waitress came over and told us we didn’t have to pay for the burger this was fair enough, but overall we had 3 meals that weren’t cooked properly. Overall the nobody had a nice meal and it put us off having a pudding. The place was empty at 8pm on a Saturday night.

Recently attended Timbers for dinner with my family. The place was very busy that evening (there was a wedding and a full restaurant). This meant that service was slightly slower than expected but was not too bad. We had phoned ahead to warn of food allergies however, the staff did not seem to have a note of these. Once informed they were helpful and explained what I could have on the menu. Will definitively be returning.

Since our last visit several years ago this place has changed out of all recognition. Very busy and buzzy, they are clearly getting somethings right. The roasts were good and the puddings nice. It's therefore a pity that the experience is spoilt by lacklustre service. Drinks and refills take ages and staff can be seen "drifting about" whilst everyone waits. Someone needs to lead/redeploy the young team or get another bar person to help speed up the service.

Pre-booked table. Arrived on a fairly busy night. Given menu's quite quickly and left for ages with no one coming back to take our order...we finally flagged down a member of staff who obliged. When the food came it was piping hot, a good sized portion and very tasty. I had soup and had to ask for a soup spoon as waitress did not bring one when I was served. There were a small group of us and we all enjoyed the food very much, all of us full after 2 courses so did not get to try dessert. We were based in the bar which was ok...lots of tables in this area. Good food, nice place let down by seemingly poorly trained staff....they just need some guidance as they were all really pleasant. I was visiting family and we decided to go out Saturday for a meal.Timbers is quite unique, the restaurant is in the old barn and dates back to the early 18th century. The ambiance and food was amazing, I opted for the lamb which was very tender, in fact we all had different meals and the consensus was that each individual meal was just as delicious, the choice of desserts were equally as nice, we had a small child with us and the children's menu was just as tasty plus the added incentive of having chocolate ice cream for dessert!! I was guest at a formal dinner when several local dignitaries when guests of honour. High Sherriff, Mayor and Mayoress , District Governor and his wife. To everyone's embarrassment the service and the food were extremely poor . It was held in the marquee on a wet windy night. The pre choice menu sent to everyone was very limited - choice of 2 each course. I was forced to chose chicken pate and chicken main course. On arrival there was no wine list for the guests to chose- no ! you had to go to the bar in another building and choose and collect - there were no wine glasses on the table- these had to be collected as well ! Soup was served cold in warm plates- looked like water with mixed vegetables in it. My pate came with 2 big hunks of bread which were stale. At the next course a dish of vegetables ( same chopped vegetables that were in another's soup,) was placed bedside my plated chicken - I asked one of the 2 young waitresses if these was for me or to share around the 7 others - she didn't know and would find out but never came back. I heard the next day that at an adjoining table the waitress asked when they had finished their main course, would they like more vegetables and they exclaimed they hadn't had any yet !!! . There were other faults - spoons too big to use in small dessert glasses, chilly venue- we were dressed formally , lights switched off early whilst some people still sitting at the table at 10pm!! . we were sitting with good friends so it became a hysterical joke amongst us guessing what might be the next poor service. 2 members of the organisation have written formal complaints but have not yet received a reply. Obviously none of us will recommend this restaurant

I went to this place about a year ago and was incredibly impressed because they had the best vegan menu I've ever seen. I phoned about three days before we wanted to go and asked if they still catered for vegans and was told yes they do. We live 45 minutes away from this place, and on arrival I was given a menu that contained no vegan options, so asked what were the options. The waiter went to get the allergen menu and came back to inform me they could do me a side salad for a starter and vegetable skewers for the main. Salad and vegetables for a dinner isn't great. Almost left at that point, very disappointed. Being a vegan I always phone up in advance to see if a place can cater for me, and I have absolutely no problem with being told they can't, but this place didn't want to say no, even though they couldn't cater for me. Spoke to the manager who didn't let me get a word in edgeways, was very defensive from the off even though I wasn't there to complain, just to suggest that they don't tell people they can cater for minority dietary requirements. We weren't prepared to pay the full bill and obviously we won't be going back.

Had the carvery on a Sunday lunch. Over the years the variety of food on offer at the carvery has diminished. If you did not want the carvery there was nothing else on offer. In relation to the quality of food it was average fare. Rather disappointed that the sauces on offer appeared to be the typical wholesalers offering and not made on site. The size of the plates seems to have been reduced by half and with the over-sized Yorkshire pudding it was difficult to get anything substantial on the plate. We finished off with coffee, well this was definitely not made with freshly ground beans and came out of a machine in the dining area. It bore the resemblance and taste of an instant coffee, which is not satisfactory. Overall I got the impression the establishment was just going through the everyday motions, without any form of development.

Friends booked Timbers for Sunday lunch to celebrate my husbands' 70th birthday. When we arrived the booking had bot been noted,so they had no table for us, nor had another booking for the following week that our friends had made. We were met with indifference and little apology even though they had been told it was for a special occasion. They found us a table in the bar, literally!. Not what our friends had anticipated. The Carvery was out of meat and we had to wait. One guest asked for a slice of each of the four meats on offer (which were being served wafer thin ) and was refused. The meat was pre packaged lumps and all tasted the same, the veg were just warm and the whole meal very mediocre and disappointing particularly in our circumstances. The deserts were pale imitations of their descriptions and the coffee tepid. The table next to ours had a lot of mess on the floor and didn't appear to have been cleaned for some time. Children running back and forth behind us completed the whole experience. All in all a very disappointing experience particularly for our friend who had hoped for a special outing. We won't be returning for our 71st birthday or for any other occasion.

We had booked a table for 4 for 1pm on Sunday 6/09/15. Upon our arrival we noticed a very long queue for the carvery. We ordered our drinks which came quite promptly but then needed to queue up for our lunches. Having been in the queue for approximately 25 minutes we then sat down with our meals. The food was good. However, we then ordered more drinks, and desserts which took a very long time to arrive. I asked the waiter on how long they would be twice. He went to chase them up but about 35 minutes later they eventually arrived. This wouldn't normally have been an issue but my daughter and her husband had been visiting fromLondon for the weekend and needed to leave to get back. When the desserts arrived either the espresso coffee we had ordered, the waitress handed the espresso to my son in law and said " here you are sir... Here is your brûlée!! Quite amusing that she didn't actually know that it was an espresso coffee!!! I then needed to wait a further 15 minutes for my red wine! Have been to Timbers on many occasions, mainly Sunday lunch which we have always enjoyed. Unfortunately, the evening menu left a lot to be desired, very little choice, although the food was nice. We were sat on a table just inside the restaurant door which was very cramped with one table behind and another adjacent didn't leave a lot of room for other diners and waiting staff to get through. 60th wedding anniversary for my mum and dad, thanks very much for the service you gave us, and for helping with the cake after the meal.Food is always great, and never feel that you have to leave, you can just take your time which is great. Also love this place because of the vegi and gluten free optionsAfter the meal you can relax on the sofa with coffee or something stronger if you wish. And all on one level which is great if you suffer from M E or back problems,

Great looking venue but the worst meal I’ve had in a long time went with family I think if I was on our own would have left meal and gone I had fish and chips thought would be nice it was over cooked on top could not even eat the batter one mouthful of peas the underside of the fish was undercooked my wife had burger the bread roll looked like a cheap roll from lidle falling apart absolutely no garnish a wimpy would look better plonked down with no finesse went on to pudding thought I would go for the poached pear got about six thin slices of pear on some chocolate mousse good fifty pence worth of pudding for eight pound I thought in fairness wife’s sticky toffee pudding was nice.up half the night with bad stomach just to top off a bad night

Popped in for lunch with a friend…extremely welcoming waitress (red hair)…food was lovely and very reasonably priced. Would highly recommend

Had a nice meal for 2 here. Decor and building is lovely, service was efficient and meals came out quickly. A decent choice on the menu, not insanely expensive depending on what you chose. Chocolate brownie dessert was delicious.

We stayed at the Kings head for 2 nights in August what a super gem of a hotel. The food and accomodation was excellent. We were made very welcome and will definitely stay again.

We came home with a great selection of apples and pears from the orchard, some we had not heard of before, they are all the same price by weight so you just make your own selection into a bag. We will be batch-baking apple-crumble for the freezer. They also have a nice butchery selection and local cheese amongst other edible. Not so keen about Gurneys the fresh fish shop as they didn't seem to want the custom they shut up early. The Fish and chip shop had a gluten problem which I will review separately.
