We went here for an evening meal we all loved our tasty food. The wild garlic prawns on a crumpet were really nice to start. But the beef cheeks on a bed of beautiful mash with roasted vegetables and onion gravy was absolutely delicious. Natasha who served us was very attentive and was on hand for our needs. I can recommend the Three Horse Shoes for a lovely treat. We will definitely be back soon👍

Me and my girlfriend came here for a meal and some drinks and we were not disappointed! Would definitely recommend the pork belly and squid for starters although there was a great selection which we will be back to try out! For main course we shared the Camembert board which came with a variation of chutneys and butter and we were given more than enough toasted bread. The selection of wines were brilliant and we had caramel sundae for dessert which was the icing on the cake of a great meal. The service provided to us by Natasha and Tom was fantastic from the minute we entered to the moment we left they were very attentive and made sure we were completely looked after during our visit. Overall me and my girlfriend will definitely be returning to try out the rest of the menu! No complaints only praise for the great food and unbeatable service! Thanks!

We were hoping to find improvement on the poor reviews seen since the reopening of this local pub after their flooding experience but were rather disappointed. Place is ambient and decoration is nice. Only two staff seemed to be around, friendly enough but did not communicate as when asked how much ice we would like in our drinks we were asked again when brought to our table, meaning an extra trip back to the bar. Service a little slow. Food very indifferent. Cod and chips (obviously oven chips) comprised a small portion and never seen such a tiny slice of lemon. Overpriced as a pub up the road offers two sizes for less. Asked if we would like bread and butter - at additional cost but did not ask how much. Had better elsewhere. Could do so much better. Competition is fierce locally. And the entrance and carpark are still as full of deep potholes as ever! Will not return.

It was our 1st time here after the referb. We heard mixed reviews but wanted to see for ourselves. We were greeted within minutes of arriving and was sat down straight away. We were left for 10 minutes before even asking if we wanted a drink. There was only 1 other table but 3 members of staff around the bar area laughing and joking. Once or drinks arrived, we waited another 5 minutes before staff returned for our menu choice. I had a piece of lemon in my drink which wasn't fresh, it had white mould like goo on the skin and the lemon itself, obviously cut the day before. We planned on having starters and mains, but as we told the waitress our choices, she said, "Sorry, we ran out of batter yesterday, and no one ordered it, so nothing on the menu with batter is available." This information should have been mentioned when we were seated. So we just ordered mains. The mains came out quick and was lovely. It's a shame the service was poor. We won't be in a hurry to come back, I'm afraid.

First time I've been back here since the refurbishment/flood they had. My grand daughters 16th. The mushroom starter was stone cold. The smothered chicken for main was ok. It was warm rather than hot but thankfully not cold like the starter. There wasn't much chicken so portion very small. It was like a chicken breast had been butterflied and I had half of that cut into 3 pieces. There was only our table and 2 others. My other half had the mixed grill which got served up whilst we had all been eating for around 10 minutes. He didn't rate it to the usual standard he has had in the past. Staff were friendly though. I would have complained but it wasn't fair on my granddaughter to do so. Maybe we just had an unlucky night but I wouldn't return there to eat.

We had a large table, plenty of space around us as well and we were not left wanting service. The food wasn't rushed but not too long either, perfect amount of time before and in-between courses. The food was lovely, I had the signature burger which was one of the best burgers I have ever had, hands down. We were all more than happy, we had a brilliant evening and will definitely return. Dreadful. We ordered starters and main meals. The starters were served, albeit over 40 minutes from being ordered. We kept asking where the mains were and we were told they were being plated up. 30 minutes after being told this we left without them arriving. We'd been there an hour and 45 minutes. Probably don't bother on a Sunday. We were there for 3 hours, waiting 40 mins to order. We were served by 4 different people even though there were only 5 tables in. They brought two wrong meals and didn't check up on us for ages. We were walking around trying to find someone. In the end they said they took two meals included in a deal off the bill but still charged us for the starters and desserts separately so it cost the same, and they included another side that we didn't have. We had to ask for the veg to go with the roast. Having said that the food was quite nice but some portions were small and the food came at different times. In all, the service was appalling and the cost was high.

Thought we would visit the three horshoes Pub for lunch as we hadn't been there for 4-5 yrs. Took our friends who we hadnt seen for many years. Ordered 3 courses. There was 4 of us table booked for 1-15pm Thursday 12th Sept 24. My starter was horrible . 2 mushrooms on a dry piece of toast with some tastless sauce. 3 fish and chips ordered. My fish was over battered . too much batter on it. The chips on each 3 plates were over baked and horrible. The desserts were nothing special at all.In fact we had 1 bottle of wine ,2 small beers and 2 glasses of lemonade .Was shocked to see the bill was £163, Aprox. I have heard a lot of complaints re Spellbrook but drcided to try as a couple of reviews appeared promising. I will never return there again. I thought it would make a change to dine with The Three Horshoes for a change, instead of Hand and Crown, Coach and Horses. What a waste of money.Never again.

I think this place is Fantastic, friendly staff, great food for value, it can get busy in peak times and there maybe a wait for food. It is under new management I believe and I think so far considering the negitives backlash this is not a true reflection of the hard work that staff put in. I'll be back here many times too come. Unfortunately you can't please everybody but that's the business.. anyone reading this with the assumption of the negative reviews left that your experience will be the same! please don't. UPDATED: I have not visited this pub in a while, it used to be a favourite of mine, particularly as they catered well for gluten intolerance. However, that all changed on my recent visit, I see that Chef and Brewer now own it. From arrival I was gobsmacked that they had no allergen advice on the standard menu (save for nut allergy), nothing for gluten intolerance - which is estimated to affect about 1/5 people now. Nothing! So I placed my orders and 'hoped' that they were wheat free, I was instructed to go to their website, but I could not find it with ease. The starter, salmon and salad, turned up... goodness... wilted rocket leaves, brown shavings from the root of what might have been pak choi or artichoke, just the brown rooted butt of the veg sprinkled over it, and dried out pieces of smoked salmon that were a token gesture... the whole thing was bathed in oil in what seemed to me to be an effort to hide how old and dry it was (I presume someone ordered it and sent it back or something) - I ate it because I was famished (not literally). The staff were lovely, truly lovely, nothing to fault there, so I said nothing, and then came a half roast chicken... well... sure, the chicken half was generous, but it came with one carrot, sliced in half, 5 small potatoes that were hardly roasted, a Yorkshire pudding that I could not eat (being gluten free) and gravy that I could not be sure was also gluten / wheat free. Between us was served a single bowl of over-cooked peas and cabbage... I had to order a second pint of Coke to wash down that dry chicken and those terrible 'tatters - it was SO disappointing. Given how abysmal it all was we did not risk dessert, plus, I was just directed online again, and yes, I found something, but the selection was limited, so we passed. And then... the BILL came! You would not believe it was over £70 for two people, starter and main! For WHAT? It was the single worst meal in years that I have had anywhere, but I said nothing, the staff were too sweet, so I paid a tip and we made our way. Personally, I do not know if it was just a bad day or a general experience of others, but I will avoid going here again, it was truly, thoroughly disappointing. The response from my feedback submission to Chef & Brewer was 'meh', they honestly could not care less, completely dismissing my feedback.

Since reopening in 2024 this was our first visit. Will be our last. Ordered food at 2.15 pm. At 2.45pm asked a waitress if she could let us know how long we would have to wait for our food. At 3.25 pm still nothing. No sign or response from the waitress we had asked. So we took a refund and left. An utter shambles of a pub. There had been no warning of long wait times upon ordering and paying. There was no apology from the manager when issuing the refund. Seems like no one cares. So we drove up to the Nag's Head in Bishop's Stortford, ordered our meal and was served piping hot food 8 mins later. We won't be back and certainly won't be recommending it to anyone who asks.

Been here a couple of times, and the food hasn’t been great. Went for a Sunday dinner, roughly around 6pm 11/08/24 and was extremely poor, the beef was just a single slither, most of it was fat, shared a cauliflower cheese with a friend, unfortunately the portion sizes of this wasn’t great, and one of us went without. Veg was dry and seemed like it had just been sat under a heat lamp, and the roast potato’s completely rock solid. Friend ordered pork, and had to ask where the crackling was, the lady told him she didn't think it came with his meal, even though it does state this on the menu. Overall we Just felt like it was coming to the end of their peak service and we got the scraps. Gave it another go a few weeks later for lunch, ciabatta sandwiches were ok. Chips came with this but cold and slightly under done. found a particular lady serving us wasn’t interested in serving a ‘young’ group of friends and literally just placed the food down anywhere without saying anything which I found strange, so we all had to swap around, no check back from this waitress, so no sauces offered/salt pepper and had to go in and chase up cutlery for sides ordered. I will be back for drinks as the setting is gorgeous, and has a great location to watch the planes and enjoy the garden. however on the food front this will be given a miss in future. Really hope this is all rectified moving forward as it is a nice venue aesthetically and has so much potential.

A lot of mixed reviews and I knew what this restaurant was like before the revamp. My experience was amazing. I went with my family and we had such a lovely time. The decor is tasteful and upmarket. Everything was clean and tidy, staff were well dressed. The food ordered was amazing and I could not fault any of the meals we ordered. The wait was appropriate, given that when I went it was packed. Sonia was our host from start to finish and nothing was too much for her. A big thank you to all the staff for turning this restaurant around. Lots of people will read reviews and my suggestion to you is, book a table and just go have your own experience. Give feedback openly to the staff, if they don’t know they can’t change it ☺️

A warm welcome with friendly and helpful staff. The newly renovated pub looks very nice and the outside patio and garden are lovely. If you’re just having drink - you’re in for a treat! However at present it is all being let down by the kitchen. By the time we left it was evident the front of house staff are somewhat jaded with the negative comments the kitchen is causing. It was not particularly busy, yet around us we heard about long waits for a simple dessert, ‘lost’ / forgotten orders, missing sides that never appeared, more long waits etcetera. Unfortunately we had one of the lost orders so ended up waiting over an hour. When it did arrive - one of the meals was inedible while the others were poor. Not sure what is occurring in the kitchen but it’s sad to see what could be an absolute gem be something you’d see on Ramsey’s kitchen nightmares. The front of house staff were very supportive and helpful in dealing with the food issues. Felt quite sorry for them with so many other disgruntled food customers. Fingers crossed they can sort these kitchen issues.

Sunday roast was a disgrace . dried out veg / tiny roast potatoes which you couldn't get a fork into /dried out stuffing which looked like chipboard and the sirloin ( said pink on the menu ) was bits you cut off before slicing. this was the worst roast dinner I have very had.... by a long way . The "stand in " manageress was very good , understood the problem and realised could not defend what was on our plates - offered to take all meals off the bill . We want a good local pub serving good food. We will give it one more try in a few months time only cos the manageress wanted to get things right . My fear is without a different chef it's a no go . Then went down hill quickly looked to me as if there wasn't enough staff. Steak was full of fat, pie was over cooked, Kids pizza is basically a Chicago microwave pizza . They forgot our sides and dips even though I reminded them twice. Still didnt bring them out. Went home leaving overall disappointed, £100 down the drain. We heard that the pub had re-opened, so decided to visit for my husband's birthday and had pre-booked. We arrived and were seated at our table, at no point were we told or made aware that there was an issue with lack of food. It was left to the poor waitress to tell diners that most of the menu was unavailable, no burgers, chips, steaks, onion rings the list kept getting bigger and bigger as the evening went on (only 7.30 pm). We tried to order a burger, mixed grill, onion rings, only to be told they did not have them or a check would have to be made with the kitchen. After two or three choices being vetoed, we both went for the gammon, egg and fries (chips not available), ordering a drink at the same time. Half an hour later, we still did not have our drink, so my husband went up to the bar and they seemed completely oblivious to the drinks order, we did finally get our drinks a few minutes after that. Our dinner came out a short time after and it was very disappointing, definitely not Instagram worthy. A small piece of chewy gammon, one small overcooked egg and some very sad looking fries with peas. For two cokes, two gammon dinners and some halloumi fries it was just under £40, we did not bother with a dessert as the wait time was ridiculous for service. The tables in the restaurant are very close together in places and we could hear other diners, who were having the same issues as us. A family had come in at roughly the same time as us and had still not received their main when we left (they did not have starters). We still left a tip for the waitress, as I felt so bad for her, she was given the task of telling diners about the lack of food and was constantly backwards and forwards to the kitchen to check what was and wasn't available. If you don't have most of the menu, maybe close the restaurant and put a sign up to explain the reasons why, rather than leave it to your poor staff to take the heat. We were really looking forward to celebrating my husband's birthday at your pub and it was thoroughly disappointing on every level, we could not wait to leave, the food was certainly not worth the money paid.

We heard about the new management and wanted to give another chance to this place as in the past it has been disappointing but we love the building. Unfortunately we were set for another bad experience. We saw a midweek menu on their website and when we asked about it the staff tried to dismiss it. They didn't have half the food on the menu and the only tables in the garden we could have food on were squished next to each other. The service was slow, tables dirty, waiters passing empty handed without picking up anything from the uncleaned tables or the rubbish on the floor. Also sorry to mention but the waitress wasn't dressed too appropriately for a family pub neither. On the positive side, the design team has done a great job with the new interior of the pub. I wouldn't leave 1 star because I appreciate the history of the building too much. Unfortunately, would not return.

Went today with my octogenarian parents for lunch. Wanted to see what the refurb looked like. It looks lovely. However, even though it was a hot day and relatively busy we waited for 90minutes before cancelling our order of a “quick” lunch. On complaining I was told “we have good chefs” I said yep but obviously not enough to which I was told that I was wrong. Not so much of an apology but a very poor excuse. 90 minute wait? Is that acceptable? I shan’t return and I’ve had many a family get together there over the years. Very disappointed

We had a lovely meal at this newly opened pub last night We were served by a friendly, helpful staff member (wearing a turquoise blouse) The food lovely - steak cooked exactly as requested and the garden medley was delicious! It was busy with a lovely family atmosphere.

The reopening of the Three Horseshoes has been long awaited. The new management and staff were welcoming and gave a great service. The decor was smart yet comfortable. Will visit again whilst taking a walk with our doggies along the river, as it's ideally set next to the river.

After an extensive refurb and now under new management, the Three Horseshoes has RETURNED for our local community and visitors alike. Tom and Tasha run a tight ship, with an ample car-park, beautifully stylish interiors and a great menu.. which we sampled today. Kerry, Amy and Paula add experience, style and grace to complete a really good team that look after you from the minute you arrive. BRILLIANT job, guys.

Wow!! What a transformation. We visited over the weekend and received a very warm welcome. The decor and ambience is amazing and the character of the building remains. The staff were very attentive and we received an excellent service from Tom and his team, mainly Tash, Amey and a lovely waitress, whose name I didn’t get. This is going to be our new go to and looking forward to taking friends this evening to celebrate their official re-opening. Also, garden is great too!

They don’t serve food to over 12 garden tables for some petty reason. Dead atmosphere inside. Ok to pop in for a drink if you’re your on a river walk though

Went there for a weeknight meal after a walk in the nearby countryside only to be told there is no food being served( despite there website saying otherwise) decided to stay for a drink and wish I hadn't bothered, the beer was awful and smelt strange, the garden is very run down and messy and the landlady was moody, all in all a terrible experience and won't be returning any time soon

Not sure where to begin, suffice to say we had a very SURREAL experience at this place. I will start by saying that my friend and I regularly work as Mystery Shoppers in restaurants (we weren't doing so today) but we do know exactly what to expect from both the food and the hospitality aspects. My friend ordered a chicken salad, and I ordered 10 of their wonder wings. Please bear in mind that we were ALONE in this pub for the duration of our meal. After 35 minutes, I am approached to be told that they only have six wings prepped, but that they could make up the rest with chicken chunks...(I agreed to this) Why does it take 35 minutes to work out you don't have the number of wings requested in the order, especially when it is their ONLY order? When my friend's salad arrives, it was lacking a fair few of the ingredients described in the menu. (Crunchy garlic onions replaced by raw onions that my friend could not have, no parmesan cheese, no dressing, etc. We had to order mayo on the side to make it palatable) But the worse was still to come!! After explaining our disappointment about the various issues and asking whether their would be some form of gesture of goodwill and being told 'no' as we 'really' hadn't any issues...we entered into the most surreal situation... Without going into huge detail because it would take far too long, the manager/landlord, after agreeing that they should have told us about the lack of wings available right at the start, proceeded to DENY saying so just 5 minutes later! IT WAS UNREAL. On top of that, he would not let me talk, saying he would keep talking over me for as long as it was necessary and doing so in the rudest manner imaginable. Even having the nerve of calling me arrogant! Needless to say, this gentleman is definitely in the wrong trade. At this point, and after trying to get some sense out of him and the evolving situation, I said that my next port of call would be social media. In a spooky set of circumstances, their card-machine stopped working and wouldn't take our payment... Suddenly, we were told to leave without paying for the food (right gesture, too late) and never to come back. The irony of that!! I would strongly recommend that you give your business to any of the many other food/drink venues in Bishops Stortford, rather than to this establishment. They certainly do not know what hospitality is or what it takes to run a successful pub.
