Great! Atmospheric and fabulously old pub with some great food and roast dinners. Not to mention their classic burgers which are excellent. Also great selection of beers and IPA etc. Great outside space too and The art of live event etc. And beer cider and other festivals

Thought we’d give this place a go after seeing the pics on their website, we were not disappointed. Couldn’t believe how busy it was for 6pm on a Wednesday night, word must've already got around. Staff were great too, the host was clearly passionate about the food when describing the cooking process and was particularly proud that they don’t put salad in their burgers, which made us chuckle. Enjoyed it so much we stayed on for dessert, the Belgian waffle was definitely the highlight. Already planning another visit soon.

If you are looking for a pub that is different from the normal, run of the mill, you wont find a better example of what a proper pub should be like. We were there on saturday with friends, we were greeted with warm smiles and friendly "Hello's" not just from the landlord but the locals as well. The atmosphere was relaxed and warm. Things got even better when our meals arrived, good wholesome food, nothing fancy, but made with care not a microwave. Four cleared plates, four very happy customers, the desserts were equally as good. Try it for yourself, well worth it 10/10

Excellent food. Tasted good quality & home- made. Good portions too. The pub is a lovely old/ fascinating building. Nice landlord too. Will be back!

Visited for an informal lunch on what turned out to be a very busy Thursday lunchtime. It turned out a funeral wake was being held - not interfering with normal business. Despite being ferh busy we had several tables to choose from indoors out of the 30+ sun. Food service was very fast and the waiting staff very attentive and solicitous. The food itself was excellent - freshly cooked with high quality ingredients. The puddings also appeared to be homemade and were very tasty. Speciality is their burgers but we didn't have those so can't comment.

Didn't eat here. I just popped in for a pint with my son. Great little pub. Finally, we have found some where that sells a decent pint locally. Nice fresh IPA, clearly had been pulled off before opening, and the lines kept clean🥰. ( unlike other locals that i won't mention!!) People coming into eat seemed to have been here before, so that would suggest the food is good. The lady behind the bar, which I assume was the landlady, was very pleasant. Will definitely be returning soon.

Nice oldy worldly pub. It used to be a medieval church. It has a bit of history with a highway man that was killed and brought to the pub and supposedly haunted by him. Great food and a few cask ales.

Had a booking Thursday for a birthday which quickly had to change to a takeaway for 10 people, not an issue amazing understanding and food was delicious thank you 😊

Lovely pub with a huge selection of beers. It's a very old pub with plenty of character. The staff and locals are very friendly too. I had a Tring beer (half pint £2.50) they also had St Austells and Abbot and one other available, aswell as lager/Guinness. Very reasonable prices, highly recommend 👌

Popped in for lunch. A lovely pub with lots of character, wooden beams, stone floors and exposed brick walls and quirky traditional seating. Thank goodness it doesnt look like every other pub. The burgers are really good and you can build them to your preference. Worth a drive out. Always a great welcome

The here is great. Best burgers around and had the pleasure of the horns Sunday roast. Always very welcoming and a great setting.

It's a lovely pub inside, though the modernisation have lost a lot of character. Landlord was abrupt when he spoke to me. Food came within 5 minutes which wasn't a great sign but tasted fine.

We were very lucky to get a table here for 15 people, last minute on a Sunday after being let down! Some of us had travelled for 2 hours with small children. We recieved a warm welcome by all the staff and were all really well looked after the whole time. Great atmosphere, lovely food. Thanks for saving the day and making it even better.

Called in for a early pint and a snack and had a very warm welcome on what was one of the coldest days this winter.Both fires on and the very helpful young lady moved a table nearer to them.Not very often you get this sort of service nowadays I said to my wife,especially as we hadn't requested this.

Booked a table for 8. Although it didn’t open until noon, we were able to sit outside in the glorious sunshine . Once inside we were looked after very well by Janine who was most friendly and above all attentive . Orders taken , we enjoyed a drink until the food arrived . Once it did , every meal was excellent and well presented . Burgers were amazing as were the steaks . One of the party had the pie of the day which was delicious . 8 empty plates later , sweet was ordered , again excellent . Janine made sure all was well throughout our visit . We would return .

Brilliant place to go on a summer's evening. Lovely vibe to place. Friendly and welcoming and very dog friendly.

Reminder to self if you a see a sign on the door advertising for a chef / cook then move on to another pub / restaurant. Had braised beef with peppercorns dish with mash and peas, not inspiring, found a couple of chips in with the braised beef !! Not a massive problem so ate them, then after a hardly warm piece of beef followed by a piece stone cold in the middle….. sent back and was replaced, better but not great. Wife had m3 burger which was ok but £3.50 for a small portion of chunky chips a bit strong

Aggressive landlord. Totally not customer friendly. I had the misfortune of the landlord accusing me of running up a tab despite never having a tab in the establishment and then totally belittling me in front of friends. Not a nice experience at all.

Lovely food, friendly and approachable staff, their dog is on a diet, so don't feed him even if he hangs around you 😁

This is a good pub with friendly staff but when you see the waitress bringing your food stop and allow another customer to take one of your chips its not the best advert.

Reasonable prices and an enjoyable meal but unfortunately due to a 'busy weekend' there were some items that were unavailable. Maybe try later in the week when fully stocked?

Lovely pub but burger the worst I’ve ever had. Paper thin overcooked and what’s with the very dry onion and bacon. You really could do better.

Attended a Wake here. Good food supplied, recommend the soup. Pleasant surroundings, large sitting area. Hope to be able to call again and probably have lunch. Don't feed the 🐶.

Very nice pub. Good wines carefully served. They made soup and sandwiches for our funeral party, both are far better than the dreary fuel that British pubs usually churn out.

Nice pub, friendly staff Unfortunately food was average Only vegetable served was frozen peas As a grown adult, I do enjoy other vegetables However, by the choice of peas or peas I did already know what to expect. My meal was braised beef, nice enough but served up as my mother would have done so for a mid week meal in the 70’s. At £18.50 you would expect a little more attention to detail.

What a lovely lil pub, went for our first Sunday roast and disappointed we didn’t come sooner. Roast beef was tender, slightly pink. Chicken was excellent n packed with flavour, and finally proper gravy which is a make or break for a Sunday roast. Are able to tell the staff here take pride in what they do and it shows.

It's a pub with a long history and particularly the beams and the mural are amazing. The stuff is very knowledgeable about the history of the building and we enjoyed talking to her. The drink and the food was lovely, too.

Had dinner with my family here, the food is OK but nothing special all burgers are good meat but very bland, the sides all sound great but not well executed. Service is slow but when we came it it was busy. The main thing I don’t like is having the pubs dog watching you eat waiting to be fed.

Such a lovely place to head just for a drink or to eat. Their speciality burgers are delightful. Mainly the reason I go back is that the customer service from Janine who works there is always exceptional.

Really lovely pub in a gorgeous area. Food was shocking though. £18 for a Sunday lunch that just resembled a plate of mush and so much fat on the beef & no proper vegetables either! I've honestly never seen a plate of food like it. I'd definitely go back for a drink but no way would I eat there again.

Pub dates from 1561, really good atmosphere, haunted! Great burgers, very reasonable price in a lovely eating area! Usually space in the carpark.

This pub has a very nice atmosphere and is has a pleasant feel. The food however, is just very average pub food, and I feel the quality of the food needs work.

Nice food. Shame about the resident dog wandering around whilst you eat. It is a country pub though and most people love dogs. Unfortunately I do not.
