The owner of this place does not have a clue about running a business which includes giving polite, courteous customer service because she has none of these skills! Off hand, flippant and down right rude are skills she is good at. The staff they employ are inexperienced, ignorant and lacking any customer skills also. Asked if they could serve a flat white coffee they responded, “never heard of it” and when we asked what beer they had the waitress said one in a bottle with a red label and one with a blue label. Unbelievable! Overpriced and the food is very mediocre, we cook better and tastier at home. Never go again and would never recommend. Tip for owner, go on a management course to help your inexperienced staff and while there learn some customer service skills.

My husband and myself visited on a Sunday morning, we were warmly greeted and made to feel at home. We were given the choice of seating and did not wait long for our orders to be taken or to arrive. My husband had a sausage roll, I had a cheese scone and we both shared a cup of tea. The food was lovely as was the Coach House. The staff were very friendly and We would visit again if we were in the area.

Character is the theme here rather than size. A perfect setting for a small function. Family run and adaptable to your needs. We have been both for lunch when wanting a walk on the estate and also on special evenings such as the popular murder mysteries. The normal lunch menu is not large but there should be something you will like and the focus is on quality. There is a fair range of both alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks, somw of which we had not seen before such as the local Aspall's cider with a shot of cassis or blackcurrant juice. A good local choice with pleasant and efficient staff. Try it - you'll be glad you did.

Took my parents here for lunch as a treat after getting them lost due to my poor map reading on Thornham Walks. We didn't have a reservation, but they managed to fit us in anyway. The customer service was excellent, the food was well presented and great quality (the pork crackling was perfect!). Would recommend booking as space is limited. The prices are very reasonable for such a lovely setting.

We were lucky enough to be able to hire Thornham Coach House as our wedding venue in September. We booked well in advance and Louise helped us with our preparations. I couldn't recommend this venue highly enough. A family run business who are so happy to help both on the lead up to the wedding and on the day. The venue itself is beautiful and decorated in a vintage and stylish decor. The food was tailored to our theme and absolutely delicious. If you're looking for a small to medium size venue that will give you a personal, friendly and tailored service in beautiful surroundings then I would highly recommend.

My husband and I first found Thornham Coach House when we were shopping for wedding venues near to the church we were getting married at. From the moment we walked through the doors we fell in love with the place and quickly booked for the following May. We immediately booked for Sunday lunch to sample the food, it was fantastic food, the beef was succulent and the vegetables local and cooked just right. We had the best welcome and Louise supported us the whole way with every decision or worry we had. Our day was stunning and the staff were amazing. Since then we have attended most of their evening events and always have the best welcome, amazing food in the most fantastic setting. We also pop in for coffee on the way past on a bike ride/walk. The Coach House is perfect for any setting - well worth a visit.

The restaurant really is an old coach house you can still see the marks on the floor left by the coaches that were parked there many years ago. The original doors have been taken down cut up and cleaned and are now the restaurants tables. The new doors are tastefully designed french doors which open out into a large marque giving additional seating. The whole thing lends the restaurant a lovely comfortable elegance. The staff are great, very friendly and welcoming, nothing is too much trouble for them and it makes for a great atmosphere, relaxing and comfortable.

We, a party of 7, had a very good Sunday lunch following a very pleasant walk around Thornham. Being an old Coach Hose the setting is quite unusual but has been converted to a high standard. Menu is a little restricted but roast beef, Turkey and belly pork as well as a veggie dish gave an adequate selection. Both the beef and pork were extremely good with a good selection of fresh vegetables. The starters and 'puds' were again rather limited but very good. Sometimes it is better to have a small selection but well cooked. One plus point was that the wine was very good and very reasonably priced. Price for 2 with drinks was about £50. Incidentally, nearly forgot, but service was very friendly and efficient.

Not realising that there are different opening hours in winter, we arrived at 3pm , closing time, but were given a table and treated with extreme friendliness and served with tea and cake and no indication of being a nuisance. They couldn't have been nicer. The tea used is very good and the cake delicious, ranking well above a lot I have tasted for afternoon tea. The restaurant is situated at the edge of Thornham Walks in a beautiful area and well worth a visit.

We stopped at Thornham Coach House for a drink while walking locally on Easter Monday and were met with very rude and abrupt service. Having a dog and a pushchair with us we decided to sit outside which the waitress did not see happy with. My husband and Sister went in to the Coach House to order and got told its table service with menus already on the tables (they weren't.) A staff member eventually gave us menus and dumped a pot of cutlery onto the middle of the table. We were sitting there talking when the staff member stuck her head out the door asking if we had chosen yet as she wanted to get the order out the way before a party of 11 came in... We ordered our drinks and the waitress stayed to try pressurise us into getting food as well, clearly thinking a drink order wasn't worth her time. A few minutes later the drinks arrived and were put onto the table still making it clear that a drink order was below them. When my husband went into pay he was greeted with an abrupt 'yes' and a dismissive attitude. We were planning on coming here for a meal but after the attitude and treatment from the staff are no longer going to!

The pork crackling was heavenly. We all ordered desserts and these didn't disappoint either. The chocolate brownie was the best I've ever had. What made the meal special for us was the great service and all the little touches. The unusual cutlery, the homemade bread, the warmed milk with the coffee. We have found a new favourite place to meet as a family.

Myself and other family members went for Christmas lunch at the Coach house last weekend, a party of 20, we pre booked and selected our options from the 2016 Christmas party menu in advance. The first course was very disappointing, prawn and salmon cocktail, very small prawns on a few salad leaves, a slither of salmon and some boring commercial branded bread with butter. It lacked flavour, and was missing a special touch which was disappointing. It was served in a large dessert bowl which didn't give a well presented first course. I heard the soup was fantastic, and the bread and butter served with soup looked much more rustic and tasty than that which came with the prawns and the terrine option - surely it'd be easier to serve everyone the same type of bread anyway? I was also informed the terrine itself was tasty, let down by the peculiar toast. My main course, roast turkey Christmas dinner with all the trimmings. This was also very disappointing and the difference in size between the child's portions and the adults was minimal - far too small! The turkey was a medium size lone piece of meat, one giant roast potato which was not crispy, a Yorkshire pudding, a tiny sausage wrapped in bacon (not even an inch long!), a couple of parsnips, no stuffing - (although I'm lead to believe some people got stuffing and others didn't) shared bowls of vegetables - carrots and cabbage only and gravy, no sprouts?! Come on.. This course was bland and not very fulfilling, and seriously lacking choice in vegetables. The chefs clearly don't try to add that something special. I'd guess the produce for the first two courses was purchased low end from a supermarket as there was really no great flavour. Dessert, this was the best part of the meal. A very tasty, but small, piece of Christmas pudding with brandy cream. The order was messed up so we ended up with a couple of extra portions which made up for the small portion. Very tasty coffee served afterwards, but it was warm and not hot! I ordered an overly priced pint of cider with a twist for £5.50 thinking it may be worth the high price, but it was room temperature, quite flat and not very nice at all. A few other things to mention regarding the venue itself; the door is very difficult to open, several people got stuck the wrong side of it! The disabled toilet was completely blocked by chairs and the baby change facility (a changing mat on the floor) was within the disabled toilet, we had 3 babies in our party so this was a little awkward. There were also only 2 high chairs. The service from the waitresses was very good, no personal attacks here whatsoever. They were very attentive and our meals came out at a good speed, it's just a shame the chefs didn't put the same effort into the cooking and presentation of the food. I had heard positive things about Sunday roast dinners at the Coach House so was thoroughly looking forward to the experience, sadly it would appear that the same level of effort does not go into larger parties and I shall not be returning along with many others from the party.

Attended the venue for a family meal this Saturday just gone for a lunch time Christmas meal which would accomodate our clan, twenty of us prebooked one month before. Leading up to the meal had heard nothing but positive about the food after all good food is one of the main reasons people eat out.. I'm sad to say it wasn't very good in any way whatso ever!! The starter for myself was a prawn/salmon cocktail which came out in a standard dessert bowl consisting of a few tasteless prawns, piece of salmon, small amount of lettuce along with two rounds of normal white buttered bread, simply missing a special touch as it looked terrible and tasted poor however as I was hungry so was consumed in four mouth fulls.Main meal arrived which was should've been roast turkey with all the trimmings - portion was worthy only of a child's amount with one measly piece of turkey and one large roast potatoe along with limited vegetables and an tiny sausage along with a Yorkshire pudding and no stuffing present?! Yet again NO special touches resulting in such a poor effort.Christmas pudding for dessert which was a small but tasty slice served with brandy butter cream thankfully the'd messed up the order giving us two extra sweets serving of which I had one! Drinks were over priced I had a warm Aspals cider with a twist which cost £5.50 and really was so weak and flat, so disappointed as circa £500 was spent by our party and I'd had sooner visted a hungry horse of similar chain as at least you know and will expect what you actually receive. During the desserts being served I noticed the two supposed chefs departing the building swiftly... they didn't look local at all and had a New Zealand of origin look about them. Only had two high chairs - we needed three really, baby changing area was a lone mat on the floor in the disabled toilet even that was blocked by stacked chairs.Toilets were not clean with empty toilet roll cardboards on floor.. the front entrance door has issues as well due to sticking badly giving the effect of a locked door (simply plane off a few millimetres of the bottom - 20 min task ultimately fixing problem) All in all sad about the poor quality of the produce presented and that many of us were let down during our visit, though very happy knowing that I'll never attend that venue again. Notice to them* stick to being a coffee shop

Chilling, hilarious and perfect for supper accompanied by a range of wines. All I have to add is well worth a visit for a meal and for a formal event, thank you to all of the staff for a wonderful day.

This was our second visit for Sunday lunch and we thoroughly enjoyed both visits. The menu is a two courses for £14.95 or three for £17.95 and there are about 4 choices of starter and dessert. The mains are either a fish dish or two choices of roast and these are served with both sweet and roast potatoes and proper, homemade Yorkshire puddings. Fresh bread is served before lunch and there is a bottle of fresh water on the table as standard. Lunch is served piping hot and in good time and everything is delicious. We would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good priced, tasty Sunday lunch.

We went for a family lunch and had a great time. This was our first time and we were surprised at the quality and value of the food. The restaurant is in an old stables attached to an old estate making a walk after lunch almost obligatory. You do need a map to find it, though it is well signposted once you leave the A140 between Diss and the A14.

We had never been to a dessert evening before so we weren't sure exactly what to expect, but we were very impressed with the service and the menu and had a very enjoyable time. The team at Thornham had clearly taken a lot of care over their planning for the evening. All the diners were served each course at the same time but very cleverly the service began at different tables for each course - this meant the same people weren't last to be served each time. We were also given a quiz on a dessert theme which was a nice idea. The food was lovely - a pasta main course to start off with, followed by 5 desserts. Portion sizes were perfect - more than a 'taster' but not too large either. My favourite was a very modern variation on a black forest gateau. If you don't know the area the Coach House could be a bit tricky to find, it is quite remote but well worth the effort!

Stayed here for one night, the room was spacious and bed was very comfy. Minor faults - kettle could have done with a good descale and there was a half eaten biscuit left in our jar. Lovely bathroom, good shower. View from room was lovely. The restaurant was extremely busy but food was nice, loved the starter and dessert but didn't enjoy the lamb chop but guess that's me, I'm fussy with meat :) Would definitely recommend this hotel.

5* food with 3* prices. A small but select menu cooked to perfection. Menu change every month and it's probably advisable to book in advance. Lovely setting in an old coach house that has been renovated 'just enough' not to lose the history of the place. I would highly recommend this place to anybody especially if you are looking to impress

We stopped for a drink and perhaps a slice of cake but we were seduced by the lunch menu and enjoyed an extremely tasty, well presented and delicious sandwich with sweet potato fries. This was the first time we had been to the coach house and will not be the last,.An exceptionally well cooked and presented meal with every course complementing the other. Wines were on offer for each course if required which some of our party enjoyed and it was also lovely to have water on the table for those who preferred that. The ambience and setting was very good as were the waiting staff. This is a young chef who I fully expect to succeed in this venture given the quality of his food and service

After walking several miles and being turned away from another local pub, the Coach House was our reward. I used to eat here may years ago, when my mother was alive. We used to go for a Sunday drive and stop here for lunch. She had dementia, but the staff were always so polite, patient and caring. The food excellent. So it was a blast from the past to return. I had been walking the long route of the Thornham Walks, with an old friend and my black Lab. After 10miles we had stopped at well known pub, but the welcome was from the North Pole and the wait for food would have been an eternity and so we decided to move on.. what a good decision. With a very muddy labrador we knew we would have to sit out side, on our arrival the staff were really welcoming, offered us cushions and checked the seats were dry. The drinks came quickly and the food soon followed. It was piping hot, very tasty, just the right amount, so no waste, the dog was given a titbit and we felt refuelled, warm and extremely well cared for. The Pork Belly Roast was to die for..The price was really good and the quality exceptional.. even sitting outside! After 10 years the standard was as high as I remembered it, i will be going back again soon.. to sit inside as the Coach House has a really lovey atmosphere.. a good place for Valentines as they are doing a Murder Mystery..

Four of us attended one of the Theatre and Dinner evenings - a very novel eating and entertainment experience with a very energetic and enthusiastic group of actors filling the gaps between courses. We take our (party) hats off to Louise and her team for an exceptional quality and value three course meal. Around 60 guests were served at the same time so efficiently, with hot, beautifully cooked and well presented food, from home made soup to moist flavourful xmas pud, and they even took the trouble to clear away cracker debris, used glasses and to replenish the water jug during the course of the evening, a reflection of their care of guests and attention to detail. A lot of other establishments don't do as well as this, even at a less busy time. Lovely warm, welcoming atmosphere ... but why are we not surprised??? Having visited this unique restaurant before (and it's especially great in warm weather) we knew the evening WOULD be a wonderful start to Christmas!

We have recently had our wedding at Thornham Coach House and could not be happier not only with the day but with the remarkable service overall. I originally enquired about the wedding on a Sunday after finding details on google and Louise came back to me that day answering my questions. We quickly arranged an appointment to visit and when we saw the Coach House we fell in love with the location and the cosy atmosphere.Throughout the wedding planning, Louise was so helpful and in constant contact by email which made things so easy. Nothing was too much trouble-tailoring the menus slightly for fussy eaters, ordering in favourite beers etc. Louise also had lots of suggestions and ideas which was great as there were things we hadn’t thought of.The day itself was absolutely amazing. When I walked in and saw the transformation with both our decorations and those provided by the Coach House it took my breath away.Following the ceremony Louise arranged our reception drinks and photo’s at Thornham Hall, whilst the Coach House was laid out for the wedding breakfast. The staff were attentive and organised throughout this without being intrusive. On returning to the Coach House again it was once more transformed with a beautifully laid out table. The service throughout the wedding breakfast was fantastic and food was amazing. We followed this with our evening reception, where our guests were warmly welcomed by friendly staff. We’ve had so many compliments from our guests about the Coach House, staff and also the evening buffet (especially the sausage rolls!) that I’d like to pass over to Louise and her team.My husband and I can’t thank Thornham Coach House enough, our day was absolutely perfect and special in so many ways, but also very personal and tailored to us. Louise is amazing, incredibly organised and very hardworking and we couldn’t have had such an incredible day without her help.We will definitely be returning to this very special place as often as possible!

We have been coming to Thornham Coach House for some time... can't think why I haven't done a review before! This is a family run restaurant on the Thornham estate in Suffolk. Yes. it is a little out of the way but a joy when you find it. The estate is a walkers' paradise and the Coach House is a wonderful watering place that sells excellent food and locally sourced drink at very reasonable [realistic] prices. We have had Christmas lunch, Sunday lunch, attended Quiz Night with [real] curry, eaten at several food-themed evenings, and always we have been met as long-lost friends and received wonderful food with great service. We have invited friends to eat out with us here and all have done return visits just to eat here! This is an amazing restaurant in lovely surroundings. Heartily to be recommended. I would exhort you to check the website for opening times as they are restricted and booking is to be recommended for main meals.

My husband and I booked our wedding reception at Thornham Coach House back in April/May 2014, leaving ourselves plenty of time to plan the finer details. Louise was fantastic throughout, always helpful and quick to reply to my many questions! We chose this venue for several reasons. We liked that the venue was willing to tailor our day according to our own requirements and we weren't required to choose a particular package like many other venues. This allowed us to offer our guests a choice of food and a three course sit down meal for a very reasonable price. We were also able to opt for a cheese 'cake' with bread and crackers to feed our evening guests, which was amazing! The venue itself is gorgeous and a lovely size; able to comfortably accommodate our 85ish guests but not so large that you feel people become lost throughout the evening! Luckily the weather was fantastic which allowed us to use the gardens of Thornham Hall which was lovely for our Pimms reception. After, we all moved to the main Coach House and marquee for our wedding breakfast. My husband and I took a small army of people to help us decorate the previous day; Louise was as helpful as always, helping us to hang bunting and offering to finish anything we couldn't manage. She was also on hand to arrange a sandwich lunch when we got hungry! The venue looked gorgeous when we arrived on the wedding day and Louise and the rest of the team were polite and friendly to all of our guests - not to mention extremely organised in ensuring everyone received the correct meal. The food was excellent; perfect portion sizes, hot and delicious. Louise helped us to organise the disco for the evening which was also excellent. She also arranged for us to be able to play our own music playlist during the wedding breakfast which was much appreciated as we spent a lot of time putting it together.Everything was seamless and we are so happy we chose this venue for our big day. The following day Louise helped us again to sort out leftover wedding cake, decorations and flowers. We would highly recommend this venue to others for weddings and family functions and we look forward to returning for a meal soon!

if you read my review of Thornham walks you will read that we ended up here. We had walked a couple of miles in good weather and were ready for a cuppa. Tricia had a latte and me a tea. We both had salmon and soft cheese sandwiches. The really good bit was that the salmon was amazing, really fresh as was the plentiful and varied salad that came with it along with....wait for it.... Premium crisps, not your plain old walkers but proper thick ones.So for £17.80 it was expensive and I know I have moaned about paying a large amount before in smaller cafe's, however this really is worth it.be aware they only open Thurs, Fri,Sat and Sun, so choose your day to visit carefully.

We only gave ourselves12 weeks in which to organise our wedding, from deciding on a venue to walking down the aisle and we enjoyed every minute of it. We had no preconceived ideas apart from wanting our day to be relaxed and friendly. Louise was outstanding from the minute we met her. She was professional, calm and prepared to go the extra mile to make sure our day was perfect. No hurdle was insurmountable and the end result was a day that we couldn't fault in any way.The venue has character and warmth of its own but it was transformed for the day with bunting and drapes that maintained the rustic feel we wanted but made it colourful and vibrant to suit the occasion. The Coach House was ideal for the ceremony with plenty of space for a proper "walk down the aisle" but keeping to the intimate setting we had hoped for. Louise and Jan looked after me when I arrived and made sure my entrance went smoothly and that my dress was behaving itself. They certainly calmed my nerves and got the whole occasion off to a perfect start. After the ceremony we had drinks outside in the September afternoon sunshine with our 30 guests. Glasses were kept topped up by staff who were attentive and polite without being intrusive. Nothing was overlooked. One guest remarked that she had mentioned to a friend that she fancied a coffee and within minutes she had one in her hand. Afternoon tea in the marquee adjoining the Coach House was a delight. Elderly relatives were very well looked after including one who said during tea that she is gluten intolerant. Within minutes a ham salad was brought from the kitchen along with some gluten free chocolate brownies. Amazing! The move from the tea to the evening reception for 100 guests, was seamless. The evening buffet of pulled pork, breads and salads was so popular the table was almost entirely cleared. The Coach House provided the perfect atmosphere for partying whilst the marquee had plenty of extra seating and tables for guests to relax and chat.Above all we think our wedding day was perfect. The venue, the food, the atmosphere and the service were outstanding. Louise - you are in a class of your own and you very obviously have a fantastic future making dreams come true for other couples like us. A really heartfelt thank you.

We've recently moved to the area and are always on the lookout for new places to eat. Found the Coach House online almost by accident, and it was like discovering a gingerbread cottage in the woods! The setting is lovely, and the weather being good, were able to sit outside to enjoy our lunch. The service is excellent, a jug of water was presented without asking, and our orders were taken quickly and efficiently. The four of us chose different dishes, the risotto was the best ever, liver and bacon, chicken and scampi meals resulted in very clean plates! The meals were hot, vegetables were perfectly cooked and the desserts were delicious. Good choice of soft drinks, and the wine is reasonably priced.Louise is a star and when she told us about her festive 'theatre-dinner' in December we couldn't wait to book a table. Check it out on their website ... you'll be hooked by the novelty of the event, and the menu looks perfect.

We wanted a really relaxed picnic wedding where we could sit on the lawn on old blankets, eat scrummy picnics from hampers and wooden crates, have a laugh with our friends and family and not worry about a thing. We had in our mind an idea but having not seen this done before we were in unknown territory - as were The Coach House. What we had on the day beat all our expectations! The staff worked so hard to translate our ideas and were so accommodating. The day was perfect. We ate a lovely lunch on the grass of Thornham Hall (hired at an extra cost) before moving to The Coach House to dance the night away to a band. Louise and the staff supplied us with delicious hot dogs to keep us going. They were excellent at ensuring everyone was happy and stocked with refreshments. We discovered the Thornham Coach House by accident. It is situated a short distance from the A140 but isn't very well signposted when you are traveling southbound. We made that comment to Louise and it was gratefully received. The Coach House is located in the grounds of Thornham Hall and the setting is idyllic. Enter the dining room and you can tell that they've made a real effort to create a warm and relaxing atmosphere. You can make the best possible ambience but you must also provide an excellent meal and a service that is warm and friendly. Well, they certainly did that.Halfway through our meal we knew that the Thornham Coach House delivers on all fronts. The main meal was delicious, the portions just right for a lunch, it was served at the right temperature, with a smile and a chat. Never too familiar however, just right. They sell products from local artisans, including wooden articles made by disabled locals. This contributes to the warm atmosphere. We're already married but if we had been younger and ready to tie the knot, we would definitely consider using the Coach House as a venue. Why anyone would choose to call a cafe Tickety Boo is beyond me but the food is good and you don't eat the name! Very strange and off-putting style where they take your money before you eat - which meant we didn't order any cake after our meal as we couldn't be bothered to queue and pay all over again. None of the diners I've seen in here look like the type that would run off without paying! Despite this the food really was excellent and I will be back for more.
