Under new management and back to normal now food and staff very good

Excellent food always cooked fresh good value for money

Pie was far from fresh, the filling potatoe and meat was congealed like a meat pie, half the chips are not cooked through and to top it off it’s expensive for the lack of quality. Real let down I would avoid if you care what you eat

Delicious fish and chips. Can highly recommend. Worth every penny and as good as any seaside fish and chips. Well done to the new owners.

Used to be a 5 star place, been taken over by new management and the prices gone up, midweek deals all gone and a big sign saying CASH ONLY. Avoid.

Not been in since before xmas and appears to be under new management. Prices have gone up loads, portions are smaller. Mushy peas came out of carton solid you could slice them. I asked for a lightly battered, well done fish and ended up with an anemic soggy one. The girl on the til was loud and over friendly. I'll be giving this chippy a miss in future.

Paid an expensive £14 for 2 lots of chips peas sausage and gravy, no peas and given a small chips, never again

Tried Thompsons Chippy a couple of days ago and I especially enjoyed the pudding chips and gravy. The chips were the best I've had in a long time. My wife had the fish, which was equally as good, with nice, thin, crispy batter.

The food was fresh and delicious. Ordered the fish as I went in, and it was worth the wait! Perfectly cooked chips and crispy fresh fish.

Thank you so much for serving our charity with 45 lots of fish & chips as a lunch treat. All arrived and were enjoyed by everyone. We will be back

Really lovely fish and chips. It's really friendly, has some good offers on mid week sometimes, been a few times now. Parking can be awkward as it is near a busy junction. But when something is nice, you find a way round. 😘

Gone downhill. Portion sizes were poor, Batter didn’t stick to the fish, majority of the chips were either black/green or scraps. Mushy peas were bland. Won’t be returning again

Always known this as a lovely place I remember I was about 14 years old (roughly around 2010) one day after school me and my friends went to the chippy they could see my friends had chips and not me, they called me over and gave me a free cone of chips. this is a memory that will always stick with me even at 27 years old, I hope my kids can grow up in a world where people like these guys exist

horrible, chips were way over done, brown is not the colour of normal chips, sausage didnt taste right, and even the mushy peas were crap. wont be going again. i dont know if the owner has changed, they used to be ok

Great Fish and Chips, lovely staff. I wish they were as good as this over the hill in sunny Yorkshire. Highly recommend you try.

Just to let you know that your fish and chips were divine and more than match the seaside ones I normally purchase 😍 Evelyn loved her pudding, chips and gravy and we are now washing them down with a bottle of Malbec 🍷🍷

Best fish and chips I've had in an age.

The meals we got were really nice and tasted like an old English chippy, if yournin the area call and fancy chippy call here UPDATED : 2nd visit . Apon ordering my food, the owner noticed i was watching the till, looking at the menu prices and I admit I was struggling financially that day . I then apologised to the owner, stating I only had 12 pounds in my account and needed to watch the price. To my astonishment, the owner then turned and asked who i was ordering for (myself partner and 5 children) . And said to me " stop looking at the prices and order what you need " wow I was so happy and appreciated and ordered the minimalist I could think of as I didn't want to seem cheeky or just take his generosity, then order the full menu so to speak After chating away, he also then offered the young children some drinks. If you're in the area, please call here, I'm sure you won't be disappointed 🙂 . I'm going to make this my new local Thank you very much to the owner There was plenty to go around

Chips are ok and service was quick. Staff member seemed annoyed for some reason. The Peas could do with some salt as they had little taste. They only accept cash aswell no card which can be annoying at times as most people use card these days.

Traditional English chippys don't get better than this.

Visited the Broadway Tommy's chippy recently for a snack on my way to meet a friend. Chips were phenomenal, not overly oily or bitty like my local. Forgot what nice chips were like as my local is rubbish, will def go out of my way in future for a chip supper. Friendly and polite staff.

Broadway Thompsons has gone down hill. Wow, I went for tea not felt like supper. Wanted to treat my dad to a chippy tea and he normally loves fish from here, just didn’t taste that good and definitely not worth the wait. I asked if it was under new ownership and she said yes but she had heard previous owners were bad ! Sorry but they were much better and faster than what is here now. Won’t be bothering again !

I have been here before and it was very good. Thought I would try it again as they now open on a Sunday. I asked for steak and kidney pudding ,chips and peas. I noticed the young women select a pie for me as opposed to my actual order. Foolishly, I assumed that they had ran out of puddings? However, she did not mention it. When I arrived home and tried my order it was a steak and onion pie! Not good hence 3 stars.

Tommys chippy victoria avenue, is so expensive, Friday night we always looked forward to fish chips and peas, its now gone up that much I can't afford it, the cues used to be out the door, its now empty, what a shame as the fish is nice, and Steve the owner is a lovely person.

Avoid. Everything tasted as if it had been reheated from the day before. Chewiest chips I've ever had. Batter on the fish was snappy and chewy too. Looks clean inside, staff welcoming and friendly, not sure if it was a one off but I do not recommend this place at all. Used to be amazing.

Fish had no taste. Batter was very strange like pastry from a hollands steak pudding. The chips were cold and had so many eyes in them half went in the bin So cold were the chips had to put in microwave and I live very near the chip shop. Changed hands again 4 times in so many months. If the food carries on like this it will be changing hands again. First visit will not be a second visit.

Lovely chippy, fish cooked fresh, nice chips. Two sorts of curry sauce English and Chinese, both are really good. Me and my husband really enjoyed it. Good service and friendly staff. Would definitely recommend.

Staff member not happy that she had to put chips on even though we had over half an hour before closing! Chips were hard, put the whole lot in the bin, don’t waste your money.

This used to be the best chippy in Manchester for me and it’s gone right down hill since the new owners have taken over very rude abrupt lady who works on the till no customer service skills what so ever always forget to put things in the bag it’s gone shocking curry sauce also like water not good at all won’t be going here again!!

This is the best chippy around. THE best chips. Big, fresh, delicious fish. English curry was gorgeous. I ordered about over 40 individually wrapped meals for my workplace. Every single one was hot and delicious. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Everything was named and individually wrapped. It was a huge order (everyone wanting something different) it was all correct, with spare sauces !! Can’t thank the staff enough for making our works lunch a success. Yum yum yum.

This one is great but the Tweedle hill Lane one nearby is awful. Fish was rubbery and not fresh and chips hard and re_fried will stick with this one on victoria Ave in future

First time at Thompson Chippy tonight, could not fault it, lovley friendly people, and the free sample of Irish Curry they gave me to try was really tasty, definitley going back, curry highly recommended

Food is decent if ya can get served. They close quite early and last week they didn't acknowledge my existence after I just been to cash point and back as they don't accept card. They served 2 people behind me in the queue so I went elsewhere.

Had a great lunch from Thompson chippy. Rag pudding, chips, peas and gravy. Very tasty pudding and an ample portion of chips n peas. The service was friendly, and quick, what more could you ask.

Visited this chippy after a few years and understood it was under new management. I was very pleased with the fast and friendly service that was provided. The food was fresh and cooked well. The staff couldn’t have been any friendlier. I will definitely be returning back here more regularly now.

I have never met such a rude person before as the young girl that served me. The problem was probably 50/50, but the way she spoke to me was disgraceful. With the owner/manger just looking on.. I have used this chippy for many years, but I will seriously consider ever using it again.

This chiopy was not good at all. Customer service very poor. Went in with 2 customers in front of me. Placed my order and then waited. 4 other customers came in after me and we served their food before I was finally given my food. No flavour in the fish at all??? Not sure how people can give this chippy good rating.
