A very friendly local pub situated in the golden triangle. The York serves an outstanding range of drinks and some fantastic food and uniquely no classic pub burger. The baked camambert and chorizo sausage roll are to be commended. The Woodford reserve bourbon is exquisite. The pub is decorated very tastefully and is well maintained and clean. It has a lovely beer garden which was apparently once the site of a bowls club. The regulars are very friendly and staff too. Shout out to the staff who are great. It's lovely to see a non pub chain pub that takes pride in creating a wonderful atmospheric environment. The york is full of friends you haven't met yet.

A lovely pub, when you can get in ! Twice in the last 6 weeks, evening of Friday 19th July and Saturday afternoon 31 August, The York was factored into a pub walk around the golden triangle area. On these occasions the pub was closed for private functions, why ? Both times the pub wasn’t busy, surely you can serve a few drinks, or possibly you can afford to turn away our business in a time when pubs are apparently struggling? Yesterday we moved onto the Champion, luckily plenty of good pubs in the area.

I cannot praise the York enough for a STUNNING Sunday lunch a couple of weeks back. I don’t write too many reviews on Tripadvisor but this deserves it. The meat (pork belly) was perfectly cooked, the veggies just right, the potatoes so crisp and the Yorkshire pud was the size of my head! The portions were just right. The kids had pasta which was yummy too. Honestly I rarely go out for a Sunday lunch as it’s tough to beat my partners roast chicken but the York? Yep we will be back. It’s also a lovely pub with a great garden when you want the kids to run wild. Thank you!

Gorgeous chicken with fatoush salad had by 2 of us. Chicken had crisp skin but moist chicken, lovely flavour and very tasty well seasoned salad. Pulled pork in bap with tasty salad and fries also very much enjoyed. Desserts were heavenly. Chocolate cake with ice-cream, cheesecake and Eton mess. All perfect.

The York is an absolute gem that perfectly captures the essence of a traditional British pub while offering a delightful modern twist. One of the standout features is its large, sunny beer garden—a true haven, especially during the warmer months, providing an idyllic setting to unwind with friends or family. The garden is spacious and beautifully maintained, offering plenty of seating and a game of Petanque. The drink selection is impressive, featuring a well-curated range of local ales, craft beers, gins and an extensive wine list, while the food menu offers a variety of delicious, hearty dishes to cater to all tastes. The staff are friendly and attentive, always ready with a smile.

Lovely old fashion style pub/ restaurant in heart of Norwich golden triangle. Welcome was pleasant as was service. Orders were taken quickly and accurately but service was so slow. We ordered Sunday roast beef at £18 the meat was nicely cooked but portion was less than generous the Yorkshire puddings were good apart from one which was burnt but was quickly replaced the vegetables were al dente verging on being uncooked. The beer was good and very reasonably priced. Note service charge added to bill.

Visited The York with friends recently. I had heard good things about the new operators and confirm it’s a great new pub for the area. We didn’t book so had to have a drink at the bar until a table became free. A commercial offer on keg but a bit more interesting on cask. Guys had local beers girls had spritz. We enjoyed oysters and a scallop starter. We weren’t keen on the sweet potato starter. Steaks were well cooked and the chips were amazing as was the pork belly and wild garlic dish. We skipped desserts for more wine. Looking forward to our next visit

This was the third time I had eaten at The York in the last 8:weeks and I haven’t been disappointed yet. I went to try out the menu prepared by the new chef. I was not disappointed, a few weeks I went with friends and we plumped for the steak all three of us requested it cooked to our liking and all three steaks were perfect and the fries/wedges were top notch. Tonight I went for the belly of pork served on a bed of mash with cabbage served with a cider and cream sauce it was delicious and to finish it off we opted for Rhubarb Mess,, we shall be back.

Lovely pub and fantastic service but did not rate the food, beef was not tender and potatoes were very dry. I’ve had much better roasts for less money. A service charge of 12% was added to the bill which I do not agree with for a table of 2. I always tip if I’ve had good service but don’t like to be ‘told’ to do so. Would not go back.

Very disappointed with our visit. We had the Sunday roast which took 1 hour from ordering to service despite the pub not being busy. I chose the Belly pork roast. I have never seen such small portions before. The Belly pork was around 3cm square and 15mm thick. The skin was disappointingly flabby and not crisp. The "roast potatoes tasted as though they had been boiled the day before and then quickly dropped in the fat prior to serving. The food represents poor value for money. This venue also has the annoying habit of automatically adding a "discretionary" service charge! It's one of my pet hates. I will chose if I leave a service charge or not, and how much. I discussed my disappointment with the manager before leaving. He was very amiable and accepting of my comments.

We had high hopes for our local under the new ownership, but unfortunately left feeling underwhelmed. The dinner menu has been refreshed with higher-end bistro style options - but unfortunately the execution, flavours and service just didn’t reflect the price (£17-£20 for a main course!) The York is a nice pub, but needs a point of difference to pull customers in and create an atmosphere that makes people want to come back - we would love to see gastro-style pub food done well and events like live music, quiz nights etc to make use of the indoor and outdoor space and build a sense of community within the pub.

I really hate doing reviews like this, the York is one of my locals, I've seen it change hands so many times over recent years and each time I get my hopes up, only to see them dashed. Popped in a week or so ago, my first thoughts were, the new decor is so dark and oppressive, dark gray really doesn't work, the staff greet you like rabbits stuck in headlights, not quite knowing what to say. Bought some drinks, average prices for the area and ordered food. This is where we have a real tragedy, my order was the pork belly, yes it looked nice, great for your Instagram profile, but in reality, what a failure. Pork belly needs a crisp skin , not a flabby bit of inedible fat, braised fennel should cut like butter, not need to be hacked and the Jus should be more substantial than a spoon of water. Generally a poor meal and not cheap. My wife's fish meal, fish over cooked, was not much bigger than a starter. All in all not very good. If you are going to do this kind of gastro pub al a carte meals, do it well or don't bother. Not one member of staff asked if I enjoyed the meal, that really sums it up. Why bars around the Unthank persist in this kind of food baffles me, none of them do it well, yet charge stupid prices. NR3 has some of the best eateries around, most doing contemporary takes on food we love. People say to me , the Unthank is for the older generation and this is the food they love, I say look at Blue Joanna, packed nightly , with a menu far removed from the others around it. Time for the Unthank area to move on.

Ridiculously expensive prices . Exact Same beers nearby are nearly £2 A PINT CHEAPER . ! -And that’s just regular pubs not Weatherspoons ! Don’t bother with this place unless you have money to burn .! OR more money than sense…. That said it’s a nice place; and could be great , but until they charge a fair price for beer then I will not be returning- so I’ll watch the reviews to see if prices become cheaper first …

Heard good things about the roast but unfortunately today we were a little disappointed, for the cost of £15. I asked where would someone go if they had a wheelchair? No reply. We often come here because the staff is always kind and super friendly, and tonight showed me how they go out of their way to make their customers happy. Great food, lovely staff and chilled atmosphere. I'd always come back for a meal at the York. P.S: the cocktails are also amazing!

A great Sunday Roast and good selection of beers with a relaxing atmosphere, what more could you ask for in a pub.

Atmospheric pub in Norwich, well located with smiley, friendly car staff. My only gripe is they are cashless so I had to put £2.50 for a tonic water (driving!) on a card, they would have lost any profit in charges, cash should always be an option imo.
