Walked in for lunch with no booking but were seated quickly. Service was friendly and efficient. Full marks for offering tap water as standard. Ordered the smash burger which I’d had before. Really delicious and pretty fair value considering portion size and food quality. Beer is on the expensive end but no surprise considering the extensive range of quality craft and local beer. Often overlooked as a food spot, but potentially one of the best around.

Me and a group of friends booked St Andrews for our Christmas Meal and ordered from their set three course menu and had an all round top time. All of us enjoyed the food and experience. Me specifically I really liked how the Roast Potatoes were done, just the perfect crispiness and flavour for me. Nothing to grumble about with the food and the service was extremely efficient and consistent throughout. Food came out quickly and no major mistakes were made. Will happily book St Andrews for Christmas again

We ordered food on a busy Saturday afternoon, so expected to wait. We waited over 45 minutes and then had to remind staff about our food order. Most customers were drinking and not eating. It then arrived shortly after so was clear it was forgotten. I ordered scampi bites, which were in fact fish fingers and were £9 for 4 small bites. My husband had pate, very small and 2 tiny pieces of bread, again £9. Just not good enough. Very disappointing as we really like the place.

Very poor roast, very poor service, wouldn’t bother going again. We booked in for a roast after Christmas shopping as the roast WAS always pretty good, not this time!! Roast potato’s were not cooked hard in the middle not very crispy not really very roast potato like, Yorkshire pudding was average, veg was minimal, no extras available on the menu. The service was awful they didn’t have our booking recorded when we arrived so scrambled around to clean us a table and then just left us seated with no orders of drinks or anything taken until I made myself known. Very poor all round service was shocking food was poor I’m afraid we won’t return for food again.

I visited the Brew house on Saturday evening for my son’s birthday celebration along with 14 others. I can honestly say that this was the worst meal I can ever remember having and at least half of our party felt the same way. I had what was called scampi as a starter which consisted of 5 rock hard chunks of overcooked breadcrumb coated I don’t know what ,it certainly didn’t resemble Scampi ,it was dry and fibrous …Then I had mussels for my main as did two others and all of us had the same problem, each mussel was so gritty it was horrendous. Desert was called Plumb fool ..yuk the only fool was me for visiting. Over the years we have been many times to this place with no issues but clearly they currently have no idea how to prepare even the simplest of meals …give it a wide berth.

At the suggestion of the Chef we returned to try again following a disappointing meal. On our second visit everything was pitch perfect. Good food well cooked and presented. New menu has clearly ‘settled’ in and the kitchen able to deliver. I do feel the options for vegetarians are limited - not unusual but would be great to see this popular pub stepping up their ‘veggie’ selection. Thanks to the Brew House for excellent customer interactions and listening and acting.

Went here for my works Christmas meal, attentive and well timed service, food was variable, portion size was hilarious, really small portions for the money, quality was fine, the cold smoked trout starter was wonderful, but roast turkey with three marble sized roast potatoes and four lonely looking sprouts was a bit bleak, the apple crumble dessert was so small I almost asked for a magnifying glass, a three course meal and I wanted to to stop for chips on the way home. For the money and quality I would expect more food. Nice beer though ...

I only gave the food one star less as the selection is a bit limited if you're gluten free. The food I did order, though was delicious! The artichoke was the best, and the beetroot / lovage salad and French onion soup was full of flavour - of the right kind. Lou's service was attentive but not invasive and when the soup turned up with a big chunk of bread, she offered a completely new bowl for me. All the dishes arrived within 10 mins. Clean and comfortable environment.

Atmospheric pub in Norwich, well located with smiley, friendly car staff. My only gripe is they are cashless so I had to put £2.50 for a tonic water (driving!) on a card, they would have lost any profit in charges, cash should always be an option imo.

Nothing is more disappointing than making a choice from a menu and then being told that it is the wrong time of day for that particular item. If choices are to be limited at five o'clock in the afternoon, then it should say so on the menu. Our server was a lovely guy who did his best to negotiate with the kitchen, but alas, to no avail. The ale was of a good standard, although the choice was limited and rather unambitious. Nice place and can recommend a visit but with some reservations.

Went in here on Friday evening, just for a drink, after having a meal elsewhere. We bought a pint of lager and a medium sized wine. It came to £14.60, which for Norwich is expensive. After the shock of the cost of drinks, we went to sit down. Because the bar area seating isn’t very comfortable, we asked if we could sit in the restaurant area, as seats were padded. Only to be told by waitress, that you had to be eating to sit in there. As it was getting quite late and the restaurant was 75% empty, we thought she was being a right jobsworth. We will not be returning there again.

A busy lunchtime as Norwich were playing later that afternoon. Just managed to grab a barstool. Ordered one of their own ales, which was cloudy and sour. Returned it and had a tense and difficult conversation with the barman who insisted it was fine when it clearly wasn't. Poured another hazy pint which he declared clear despite the visible evidence. I'd advise a job working for the Home Office. He very bad-naturedly replaced it with an alternative, which wasn't that much better. We drank up and moved on.

We hope that our experience was a blip as most reviews are excellent. We chose the brew house as our only evening meal out in our stay in Norfolk. We ordered nibbles to start & nothing arrived until we asked staff what was happening. How to describe the ‘pigs in blankets’? They looked raw although they were hot. The texture was soft & slimy & I had to spit mine into a napkin before I retched. I wonder whether they were microwaved rather than grilled. We told the waiting staff & it was deducted from the bill. Our mains were better but not excellent. One of the 2 belly pork dishes seemed overcooked & tough. It was a great shame because the ambience was excellent & it’s clearly a very popular venue.

It worked beautifully and there were so many compliments from guests - the pork belly was stunning! Fantastic cheese and fruit scones! We cannot have enough of them. Friendly service. You can also get the scones at the market in Norwich or at a kiosk in the cathedral precinct.
